story one.
once upon a time, we canceled our comcast because they are jerks. this left us without internet! i decided to sign up for digis. turns out, digis has bad customer service and they will not help you connect your wireless router to their internet service. because we refuse to pay a $75 router set-up fee to a third party, we are left with no internet at our house.
because of ALL this, i didn’t read blogs or post on my blog all weekend long.
the end.
******************************************************
story two.
once upon a time, in the streets of san francisco on an early morning run, i fell in love with teri from a foodie stays fit. teri is from utah but lives in north carolina. this weekend, she was in town!
we went to lunch at a new-to-me salt lake city restaurant called pago. hello, amazing food.
i ordered the pulled chicken hash (basically like a crab cake but with chicken):
teri ordered the pago risotto (changes daily—this had squash and sausage):
we had a nice chat, i begged her to move to utah, we devoured our delicious food and we both lived happily ever after.
the end.
******************************************************
story three.
once upon a time, on a warm saturday morning, i went to the farmers market with my main squeeze, marshall g.
we drank blue star coffee.
i played with my new lens (btw: LOVE IT).
we bought noodles, peaches, nectarines, melons, onions, bok choy, dried cherries and the most amazing jam ever.
i now have a new favorite jam.
the end.
******************************************************
story four.
once upon a time, my best friend, kristen, bought a house.
she wanted to make it nice and warm, so she had a house warming party on saturday.
i told her i would bring lots of tasty stuff to share.
i made two bite brownies and two bite chocolate chip cookies.
okay, maybe one bite.
i made roasted garlic sunflower seed hummus and served it with veggies and whole wheat pita bread.
i doubled susan’s recipe and changed it to 10 cloves of roasted garlic.
i made a quinoa salad that had roasted red peppers, cucumbers, artichokes, feta, basil, slivered almonds and a greek yogurt balsamic dressing.
kristen made delicious sangria.
we had a blast. the house was TOO warm, so we hung out outside.
marshall drank izze.
i wore my izze shirt. marshall wore his creepy person wearing a wolf hat shirt.
it was a flipping blast.
the end.
******************************************************
story five.
once upon a time i woke up at 12:27 pm on a sunday morning.
that was yesterday.
because i slept in so late, i felt like i had to be productive… so i spent four hours deep cleaning and rearranging things in my kitchen.
the result was glorious. i should sleep in more often.
the end.
******************************************************
story six.
once upon a time marshall made me sunday dinner while i cleaned the bathrooms.
it was a salad. a delicious salad. it had spinach, arugula, romaine, greek yogurt, pico, avocado, grilled mahi, grilled halibut cheek and lime.
it was good.
the end.
******************************************************
story seven.
once upon a time we vacuumed randy.
i held him down, marshall vacuumed.
he hated it. i think he is scarred for life.
the end.
******************************************************
my posting is going to be scarce and my blog reading is going to be nonexistent until we figure out our internet issues. thanks for understanding!
your assignment:
write me your own short story.

I LOVE your kitchen!
Once upon a time, I realized that i’ve spent so much time reading blogs and looking for a new job, that I haven’t blogged myself in over a week. Rut ro.
Once upon a time I went to hot vinyasa class at a new studio after 8 months away from studio yoga. I rested a few times but sweated my way through the crazy hard, super awesome 75-minute class.
Then I went out for brunch with my friend, who is a yoga teacher but was a student in this particular class with me. We ate amazing “fluffy” style egg white omelettes with spinach, feta, and mushrooms at the lovely Sunrise Cafe. I wish I knew how they made these omelettes, they’re almost like big puffy souffles. YUM!
Now every muscle I own is sore. I think my armpits are sore. Every time I rolled over in the night it woke me up because it hurt so much. That should teach me never to go more than a week without a studio yoga class again!
The end.
ooo good story!
Why thanks! I’m actually a bit more sore than I was after my Warrior Dash! Eep.
Speaking of, when’s your 10K mud/obstacle run? Soon, yes?
Your kitchen is INCREDIBLE. I liked this post, easier to catch up than on multiple weekend posts. Hope everything gets straightened out! :)
Once upon a last Friday night, I ran in to Borders 10 minutes before closing, and found not one, not two, but THREE vegan cookbooks that I’ve been wanting–for 50% off, no less! (The Conscious Cook, The Real Food Daily cookbook, & Peas and Thank You)
I LOVE the new lens! I really need to learn how to use my new camera.
Once upon a time there was a girl who couldn’t do a push….at all! Then after doing 4 weeks of “The New Rules of Lifting for Women”, she can get herself halfway down. Good times.
go you!!!!!!!!!!!
Sangria recipe or approximations, please!!!!
the two bite choc chip cookies & brownies…every time i see you post those i wonder why i havent made them
love the shot of marshall with his tats carrying the TJ’s bags at the market. Great pic!
glad you and Teri had a blast!
i don’t know! i didn’t make it. sorrrry. i know it had brandy, white wine, fresca, lemons, oranges, limes and sugar in the raw!
no worries…it looks so good. love the lightness of it, white wine, etc rather than red. the citrusey vibe..yum!
i loathe comcast! we went with fios and love it! true story: went on a coffee date and got bitten by a ridiculous spider on sat night. it’s getting so big and scary they think it might be a wolf spider bite. who does that happen to? i live in the friggin city?!
ugh fios isn’t available in utah. i so want it.
UM SPIDERS ARE THE WORST.
also, it happened to lisa. her neck was atrocious at HLS. here’s a link: http://www.imanokie.com/2011/08/the-history-of-a-spider-bite/
Internet/tv providers all seem to have the worst customer service. The pulled chicken hash and your homemade hummus both look amazing. My old chocolate lab used to love being vacuumed!
We want Randy to like it! There is so much fur everywhere. He hates it.. and us.
Once upon a time, I talked you into doing a guest post for me…not only that, but the publicity that one post, helped sky-rocket my blogging career. Then I started doing guest appearances on Flipping Out, signing autographs and getting sponsorship for HLS next year.
A fairy tale…the end.
hahahhaha. once upon a time, i had 4 people i owe guest posts to. you can be the fifth. true story. the end.
Once upon a time I got hit in the eye with a ball and scared so bad I almost wet myself, Aaaaand was tormented by cheesecake eaters. ALL IN ONE DAY! :) Our family parties get pretty intense!
Love your kitchen, sorry your internet-less… I also HATE comcast. We are dealing with them now. I hate all cable/internet companies. They rape you. They suck!
I hear you about the internet woes. I’m without internet at home right now, too, and it’s driving me absolutely nuts! Hope you can find a solution soon! :)
A short story from my weekend involves a wedding. The manfriend and I drove separately so his drive back home on Sunday would be shorter. He had already left earlier in the morning because he was in the wedding. I waited until 2:30 when the wedding started at 4 and was an hour away. I got in my car and heard “click, click, click”. No start. lol. Dead battery. Thank goodness for mechanic friends. I had a new battery, drove to the wedding site, changed in a disc golf parking lot, and made it with 5 minutes to spare. lol.
Phew. The anticipation was killing me! Glad you made it!
Once upon a time, I was supposed to wake up at 6am so I could make it to outdoor yoga one last time before I move. 6am came and went, and I stayed in bed and missed my last chance for outdoor yoga. Sad story. The end.
=)
That’s OK, because something is better than nothing, right?! I loved that post. That’s the motto my mom and I say to each other constantly.
Once upon a today, I stumbled across your blog and love it!
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! thanks for finding me, ha!
Haha! Poor Randy!!!!
Im sorry about the internet issues, comcast does SUCK! We almost cancelled them too, but realized they are the way to go, so they have us trapped like little mice : ) lol
Congrats to your friend on her new house! When I have a housewarming party one day, you need to come, I mean really because I love you , but more because I want you to make all that yummy stuff for me ; )
love you!
Once upon a time Comcast was the devil. The end.
Once upon a time I swore I was still young, but then I watched the MTV awards and couldn’t understand how they gave away the “best video” award when they don’t even show video’s anymore! I also fell asleep before the end. That is all.
I love this post idea!!
Which lens did you end up getting, Janetha?
And girl you know I don’t blame you for quitting Comcast. I think I told you the story about Shane taking all 5 or 6 of our DVR’s, slamming them on their counter and leaving. That was fun :)
hahah yup! i can totally picture that, too. i got the f/1.8 50mm–I had it at HLS but was too lazy to use it :P
LOVE your kitchen..I know I’ve told you a million times before, but I do, I really do just LOVE it. Especially the picture of you two! Gorgeous. Oh, and I also love Randy..so much. He is just so photogenic, I swear.
GOOD LUCK with your internet situation- that sucks at all of the fees you have to pay to start up a new connection. Ugh. Stupid cable/ internet companies & all of their darn fees.
I shall miss you!!!! But I loved reading the little stories. :)
Once upon a time (Saturday) my hubby and I went to finally try Red Mango, and it turns out it closed a new froyo place arrived. It had cookies and cream flavor. It was good. It was better with butterfinger, heath, and cookie dough on top.
The End.
Once upon a time i did some baking for a competition & ate far to much of the leftovers. So the next day, even though it was a British public holiday, i spent the morning at the gym and enjoyed 2 of the best classes with my favourite instructor/friend, had a lovely chat with her & felt happier than ever, when she gave me a hug & a kiss on the cheek as i left, because i remembered how it felt to have a true & real friend.
Loved the format of this post!
xx
ha ha. Love this post. Especially the wolf eating man? shirt and the vacuuming the dog bit. So great.
Once upon a time we ran out of coffee beans last week so I went to a coffee shop on Saturday to fetch us some coffee. Then I got home with it and got all comfy in bed, ready to read when I clumsily knocked my cup off of the bedside table and it spilt all over our white bedding. Then I spent 45, sweaty, angry minutes cleaning the carpet and bleaching our sheets. And I didn’t have any coffee by the end of the ordeal. Not even a sip. I’m still tired.
The end.
oh BOO i hate sad short stories!!!
Once upon a Sunday afternoon, my honey and I picked peaches and apples. 1/2 a bushel of each, to be exact. Now I’m left wondering what the hell I’m going to do with so much fruit….
The end :)
send some peaches to meeeeeeeeeee!
I’m slightly obsessed with your kitchen.
I love all the stories! Love your pics from the new lens! Nice work on your kitch! It looks so sparkly!!!
Poor Randy! Hunter does NOT like the vacuum, he is terrified of it! I’m sure he’d run away if we ever tried anything so atrocious. Dog hair IS a huge pain though. I feel ya.
Once upon a time (today) I tried cottage cheese with ranch seasoning, because a certain blogger raved about it. IT WAS THE BEST THING I EVER ATE.
The end.
p.s. I loved reading everyone’s stories in the comments!
YUMMMMMMMMMMM. once upon a time i wanted to eat that for lunch today and was out of ranch seasoning. tomorrow, this story will have a different ending. the end.
Once upon a time, I wondered, “Where the hell is Janetha?!” That question was born of opening my inbox two days in a row and finding no meals and moves blog to read with my morning coffee.
Worried that my ISP (Comcast) may have been experiencing some kind of error, I went online to my blog roll to see if there was an update there. Nope.
Then, moments ago, I checked my blog roll yet again. Look! It’s Janetha! She lives! She needs an ISP, but she lives! And her kitchen is clean. And it’s all good. And they all lived happily ever after. The end. :-)
hahahah awesome story!!!
im a sucker for short stories.
your kitch is adorable.
i want a one-bite choc chip muff brownie
farmers mahhhkets are the bomb.
your pup is cute.
hope internet comes back in the meals and moves household soon
the end
you know you made me happy with the farmers market pictures. Thanks friend. ‘:P
I added extra ones JUST for you!!!!
oh!! my best friend is having a housewarming party this weekend too! i like the idea of that quinoa salad and i would LOVE to bring brownies but she doesn’t want anyone bringing anything chocolate because of her dog. don’t ask. how you ask 60+ people to your house for a party and tell them they can’t bring anything chocolate bc of 1 dog boggles my mind.
dude. it boggles mine, too!
ive gotta hang my pans in my kitchen..it saves so much room and is so convenient!!
looks like an awesome weekend! my husband needs to learn a lesson from urs and make me dinner dammit!
hahaha what a fun post! omg I love that you acutally sleep in! so many times i read blogs and everyone talks about how they are up at 6am on a saturday (and not fro work) i mean COMEON!! sleep a little lol…its so nice once in a while to just SLEEP
the party looks like such a blast and even more so does that quinoa dish! i hope you post that recipeee
once upon a time there was a hurricane and it scared everyone..we never lost power, i was just bored and ansty the whole day. the end
there really isnt a recipe! haha. i just cooked 2 cups of quinoa and threw in the rest of the ingredients a little at a time until it was a good amount. probably about 1/2 cup of each ingredient and 1/4 cup of balsamic.
lol.. oh randy… cheer up, buddy.
Haha! Love all the stories, especially number 7.
aw I love all of your short stories! Blogger meet up, hubs making dinner, happy pup, brownie bites, sleeping in – happy post!
Once upon a time I spent over 45 minutes searching for food shaped like footballs. Football season is definitely upon us – love it. LOL
Tee hee – we vacuum our dog and she LOVES it.
My short story:
Once upon a time, a fellow blogger (moi) decided she needed a break from the loud guys in her house (fiance and our 6 year old) so she put in noise-cancelling headphones and caught up on her own blog reading while listening to Death Cab for Cutie. It was pure bliss for all 33 minutes that it lasted, then she turned on some metal and kicked some weights behind.
I’ve got nothing :) I’m boring!
Boo on comcast being ridiculous. We had the same problems. But so cool that you got to hand out with Teri. She is one blogger I am dying to meet. :)
please do not hate me but I have no story…i live a boring life :(
but if teri moves to Utah I am coming too!
xoxo
Michelle
although I did have a wonderful Saturday with friends, drank way to much, but wish I had more of a fun story with it haha
Once upon a time, I ran 14 miles on a Sunday. Even though I was exhausted, I could not sleep that night. Instead, I looked at the pictures my family took of the floods in Vermont and it made me sad. But then I was grateful that they are all ok.
great post! hope you get internet back soon :)
once upon a time, i woke up at 6 thinking i had plenty of time before i had to be at school for my first official day of work. i got myself ready, made a delicious and enjoyable breakfast, and was reading my emails when i noticed that i had to be at school and hour before the time i thought- freak out! rushing around ensued and i ran around as a frantic mad woman packing things that i would need for the rest of the day… fast forward to work: i opened my bad and my had my fiances dirty socks [obvi something i didn’t need for the rest of the day- ha]!
Once upon a time, I got insanely jealous that you got to hang out with Teri! She is my FAVORITE!
I know! She’s THE BEST!
Once upon a time I read your post, and felt an extreme urge to meet up with blogger friends, organize my kitchen, and vacuum my dog (did it get rid of a lot of hair? I reallly want to try it on Punky!)
The end.
I think it did more damage than good… haha
Okay! You take gorgeous photos and your treats looked AMAZING!!! I also love your kitchen – esp the hanging pots and pans.
Once upon a time I asked for an ikea bed for our guest room because it had drawers for storage. I spent all weekend putting it together and realize that its too big for the room and I only actually open one of the drawers. Oops.
oh no! ikea #fail
Once upon a time, I met Janeetha at HLS and was so happy to hang out with her. and then a week later I read her blog post about her fun-filled weekend and wished I could hang out with her again. I also loved that Janeetha and Marshall vacuumed their dog. And I couldn’t stop laughing. The end (no! the beginning of a blog friendship :) ! )
Sorry your interweb is being lame. I haven’t had any issues with comcast… yet, but most everyone I know has issues with them.
My story… Once upon a time I was TOTALLY jealous of your kitchen. It’s amazing. An added bonus, it’s not littered with boxes like mine is. The end!
Once upon a time, I came out of blog hiding to read my good friend’s post- I fell in love with the format and demanded that she repeats this format in the future.
Love that you met Naomi! Love those fortune cookies. Love that you are disconnected (see my post tomorrow, or don’t – you’re disconnected!)
Once upon a time a girl went took her 3 cats to the desert when it was 111 and it was like god gave her a big hug and she lived happily ever after (especially when her hubby joined her on the weekends) the end.
Love you.
hahaha it was teri not naomi, but their blog names are super similar! I am bound and determined to read my faves today, after replying to a few comments on this post. xo
What? So confused a foodie stays fit is one fit foodie right? I thought that her looks had changed a bit- but hair color is always an easy change. OK going back into hiding now. love you. Glad you had fun anyway.
Ha, I love that I’m always behind Deb. Its like we’re a packaged deal!
Once upon a time, Eden went abroad for two weeks and handed over the reigns to her blog to other readers and bloggers and she decided they did such a great job, she just wanted to leave it into a giant community forum and retire from blogging. She went on to become a professional farter living with her seven ponies that ate her alive. Word is, her spirit rises whenever anybody farts.
The end….until the next fart.
PS (your mentioned often in my previous blog post comment section. Don’t worry, all good stuff. I just wanted you to know people love you).
Always behind Deb! I need to catch up on your blog. I hear good things are happening. Miss youuu xoxoxo
I never know that you’re behind me! Even when I check the box to receive subsequent comments on JBs blog, it never does it except to MY comment. Obviously I’m checking the wrong box. Back into hiding now :-)
once upon a time there was a blogger in canada who came across janetha’s blog – and what a find it was! canadian cathy loves j’s kitchen and her market photos and her cute doggie pics and is sad that the always entertaining j is suffering with internet issues. she wishes she could wave her magic wand and make internet access be there! :)
