five things i’m loving lately.

by Janetha on March 4, 2013

in product review

we use things every day. some things we like a whole lot, so we use them often. some things we like way too much, so we use them every day.

anyway, i thought it would be fun to periodically share things i love with you. and i picked five.. because it just felt right.

5 things

1. extra lemon square gum

IMG 6956

i have tried several of the extra dessert gums and, while they taste good, i never purchased any of the flavors a second time because the flavor lasts for 2.2 seconds and then it’s gone. but the lemon square.. this, my friends, is different. i am a big fan! no, it doesn’t taste quite like THESE.. but it’s pretty dang good.

and, yes, i realize sugar free gum isn’t the healthiest habit to have.. but, hey, i can think of way worse things to use habitually. at least it’s not crack.

2. onnit shroom tech sport

IMG 6959

i have mentioned this as my fave pre-workout supplement before, but i have to say it again! i am in LOVE with shroom tech sport. for one, it allows me to perform way better than ever before. for example, i took my shrooms (as i call them) before today’s workout

 IMG 5756

we did this one last december and i got 23:45.. which was pretty dang good. however, today i managed to stomp my previous time by 1:14!

 IMG 5755

all the credit goes to my awesome trainer, lizz. ;)

IMG 5757

no, but for real, i definitely give partial credit (okay, the majority of the credit) to the fact that the shrooms give me mad endurance. i was able to storm through the workout with hardly any rest at all. another reason i love the supplement is it is completely natural and there are ZERO crazy ingredients. one more reason is there are NO side effects.. i hate pre-workout supps that make me jittery or tingly. caffeine and niacin have the tendency to do that and i don’t love it. the shrooms really have NO side effects. you take them, you perform well, and that’s it. end of story. no crazy anxious feeling that can come with other pre-workout supplements. the only down side is they are a little pricey, so i only take them when i have a really tough workout. otherwise, i take nothing pre-workout.

3. the new tegan & sara album

NewImage

ahh. heartthrob. I LOVE IT. marshall bought it for me right before our trip to the DR and i listened to it on repeat over and over and over during the trip. i am super stoked because tegan & sara are coming in concert this august! you better believe i already got my ticket. they will be opening for fun. which will be rad.. although i wish T&S were headlining!

4. tupperware smart steamer

IMG 6948

i snagged this sweet steamer from blog friend kirstin. she sells tupperware and offered to send me this cool contraption. a little bit about it, in kirstin’s words:

The Smart Steamer is designed to steam entire meals (think chicken and veg stir fry) at once, all in the microwave, in 1-3 dishes, in less than a half hour!  It can also do desserts, veggies, etc.
For people who are worried about cooking in the microwave (due to radiation, etc), all of the components of the smart steamer are impenetrable by microwaves.  The only part of the system that actually heats up is the container that holds the water in the bottom.  It’s a true steamer, and it works remarkably well.  I was a skeptic until I used one!  Dr Oz even featured it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbKKVfZwxJ4

kirstin is so right.. it works remarkably well. i used it just tonight to make asparagus to go with my chicken piccata. it was steamed to perfection in six short minutes.

pretty neat!

5. fruity freakin’ pebbles

IMG 6970

oh. man. guys.. this is becoming a problemo! i love, love, love fruity pebbles and ate them nearly daily growing up. last month i had a big time craving for them, so i bought a box. we have devoured a box a week (mainly me.. marshall has helped a little bit.) when i polished off the last of the box on saturday night, marsh was a little sad. we solved the sadness by purchasing the family size this time around. for our giant family of two.

side note, i love how foods boast “gluten free” on them all the time now. like it’s a claim to fame. i dunno.. it kinda bugs because i feel like people who aren’t informed just see “gluten free” and automatically relate it to “healthy”–which is most definitely not always the case! i mean, fruity pebbles aren’t the best choice. they have hydrogenated oil and artificial flavoring. (hey, i never said i was the epitome of health.) now, i know not everyone relates gluten free to healthy, but i know many people do. it can be misleading!

well, gluten free or not (and healthy or not), i am still gonna eat fruity pebbles like it’s my job. dang.. that would be such a rad job. think such a thing exists??

whelp, that’s it for my first round of five things i’m loving lately! i will post another round when i have five more things to share.

something for you! kirstin (my friend who sells the tupperware!) has offered to give one meals & moves reader a smart steamer. just leave a comment on this post and i will pick a winner on friday, march 8. ALSO.. if you want to purchase a steamer, just email kirstin at kirstinestone@gmail.com and she will give meals & moves readers 10% all purchases through april 5th.

speaking of giveaways.. the winner of the dasani drops & bike is #94, kate!

1. what’s one (or five) thing you’ve been loving lately?

2. if your job was to eat something every day, what food would you pick?

Krystina March 4, 2013 at 10:15 pm

Um, I’m pretty sure that foods state that they’re gluten-free so that people who, you know, have an actual gluten intolerance/allergy know which foods are safe to eat. You’re probably clouded by the droves of bloggers claiming that gluten is the devil and that they’re “intolerant” but many people do actually have a problem with gluten. It has little to do with it being healthy or not.

Cocoa pebbles > fruity pebbles, though. :P

Janetha March 4, 2013 at 10:26 pm

I realize people have intolerance to gluten or are celiac.. However, there are now large gluten free labels on products that have been around for decades. Their labeling has just changed in recent years due to the rise of people who don’t eat gluten. Haven’t the intolerances and celiac disease been around for just as long? Yes. But five years ago you wouldn’t see so many gluten free labels when perusing the aisles. If you truly cannot eat gluten, you’d be responsible enough to check the ingredients. No need for a big, bright announcement across the front. I know several people outside of the blog world (they don’t even know what blogs are) that have chosen to not eat gluten because “it’s healthier” or “I want to lose weight”. That’s the root of my rant up there.

Momma b March 4, 2013 at 10:22 pm

Second question answered first:
Ben and Jerry’s Coffee Heath Bar Crunch….I would love to HAVE to eat boat loads of this dreamy flavor ice cream mmmmm good!!

I’m loving my lulu capris…pretty sure I workout harder when I’m wearing them.

Also LOVE my fitbit it’s so fun to be aware of my steps every day!!

Fun post!

I love you.

betty March 5, 2013 at 5:33 am

im right there with you on the ice cream momma b. i cant bring it into the house unless i’m willing to eat the entire pint in one night.

April March 5, 2013 at 8:44 am

Oh yeah, that is my favorite ice cream, hands down.

Kenzie @ sarcasminspandex March 4, 2013 at 10:28 pm

I have also been loving the new Tegan and Sarah album. I bought it about 2 weeks ago and have listened to it over and over and over and over.

Something i’m loving lately: sleeping pills and dried mangos

Jessica E March 4, 2013 at 10:30 pm

I second what Momma B says! I love my fitbit too!!! We give them away at work through our wellness program! I never realized how lazy I was during the day until I had my fitbit, now I count the steps to the copier :)

P.S. I could eat Cinnamon Toast crunch everyday!!! but thankfully my gut has another agenda!!!

Carly @ Snack Therapy March 4, 2013 at 10:34 pm

My gum habit is out of control. It’s basically like crack for me. I mow through a pack a day! In case you didn’t know, this leads to major stomach bloating and cramping (=gas). So not cute! But, I continue to buy it. And that Lemon Square flavor looks good enough to endure a few stomach pains.

Sarah B. March 4, 2013 at 10:41 pm

I need to cut down on the gum habit! That steamer looks amazing!!!

Rachel McIntyre March 4, 2013 at 10:54 pm

I’m in Paris right now, and I’m addicted to ham and cheese baguettes. It’s a serious problem!

I could easily eat any cereal all day, everyday!

kristine March 4, 2013 at 10:59 pm

the steamer looks cool! congrats to the bike winner! that’s awesome!!

Jessie March 4, 2013 at 11:15 pm

I am loving Trader Joe’s wasabi peas! A handful after work is pure joy.

I think I could eat fresh pineapple everyday….yum!

The steamer would definitely find it’s place in my weekly meal prep.

laura March 4, 2013 at 11:29 pm

My gum habit is out of control.

Megan March 5, 2013 at 2:34 am

Yum ! Fruity pebbles are my favorite , but I can’t keep them in the house because I would eat them all in one sitting .

Alayne March 5, 2013 at 2:36 am

Favorites:My life is good coffee mug with a big pink flower on it and inside the cup lip it says grow, it makes me so happy to drink out of it when I start my day., my homemade nut butter, cashews, pecans, almonds, I love spoonfuls of that as a snack, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, fresh flowers in my house every week, my vintage pink mixing bowls. If my job was to eat one for every day it would be a chocolate molten lava cake, heated up with fresh whip cream on it super frickin yummy

Lisa March 5, 2013 at 2:39 am

The steamer looks awesome! :-)

Jan @ J Cooks Healthy March 5, 2013 at 3:03 am

Definitely cheese. Although it would have to not make you gain weight. That or ice cream or carrot cake. Too hard to decide!

I’m loving everything Bragg’s from their nutrional yeast to their herbs and spices and amino spray, so good!

Katie @ Talk Less, Say More March 5, 2013 at 3:26 am

I’m going to HAVE to check out that album – how have I not already?!

And seriously, love that steamer. Must.get.hands.on.steamer! ;)

Erica March 5, 2013 at 3:50 am

That steamer sounds VERY cool. Picking up that gum today. I’m a gum addict- no shame ;) Fruity pebbles are really delicious. Certain cereals I just can’t buy because I have 0 control

Rachel March 5, 2013 at 4:26 am

I steaam everything!!! Would love that steamer. Also, Ive been having super cereal cravings lately….maybe I ought to get some asap

Brittni Curtid March 5, 2013 at 4:29 am

I’d love that steamer:)

Audrey March 5, 2013 at 4:43 am

I’m loving Dulce de Leche Girl Scout Cookies dipped in my coffee in the AM!
I think if it was my job to eat one food, I’d have to pick chicken wings!!! But only the mild flavors :)

Hope @ With A Side Of Hope March 5, 2013 at 4:59 am

That steamer looks awesome! I’m always looking for different ways to cook vegetables. :)

Trisha March 5, 2013 at 5:15 am

I will be 38 on 3/8! :) It sure would be great to win a steamer for my birthday! :)

I’d eat Trader Joe’s apple cinnamon sticks. crunchy. sweet. apple-y. cinnamon-y. a tad salty. I could polish off a bag a day.

5 things I love – – Nuttzo non peanut mixed nut butter (expensive, but worth every penny). Vermont maple walnut peanut butter. My new saucony running kicks. March is here (spring is on its way)!!. Teaching spin class again.

Laura @ RunningJunkie123 March 5, 2013 at 5:27 am

I agree with you. “Gluten Free” is used because people automatically think it’s healthier. If people have an actual intolerance, you think they’d be educated properly on what they can/can’t eat.

I love that you eat not-so healthy foods and have no shame about it! I don’t think too many healthy living blogs would do that.

One thing to eat?? I don’t know!! There are too many options! Guacamole and chips??:-)

betty March 5, 2013 at 5:38 am

i def agree with you and the gluten labels. i think that’s their angle on trying to make people feel more inclined to buy it.

cereal is something i never bring into the house because i can eat it allllll day and keep going, without ever getting full.. being in CR, i def enjoyed a bowl (or two) of fruity pebbles every morning and now i’m craving cereal like crazy. :(

one thing i’m loving lately is our new doggie door. it was a steep purchase (since it had to be custom built and big enough for yogi) but its def worth it hearing my little basset paws bypass the bedroom and go straight for the door at 4am.

Teri {a foodie stays fit} March 5, 2013 at 5:41 am

I love Tegan and Sarah! Guess who else is coming to Utah in August? This girl :)

Wendy Murphy March 5, 2013 at 5:48 am

Oh my gosh! I would LOVE that steamer! I need one! :)

Kathryn March 5, 2013 at 5:53 am

The steamer looks awesome! I would eat fruity cherrios for every meal if I could. My snack would be cookie dough;)
I’m loving my snow day (no school today!), coconut oil, the movie Argo, my Clarisonic Mia 2 brush, and coffee (sorry-I had to say it).

Emily March 5, 2013 at 6:08 am

The steamer would be awesome for quick lunches with easy clean up!

Linz @ Itz Linz March 5, 2013 at 6:09 am

lemon gum?! i don’t know if i could get down with that!! :) :)

Nicole@TheKidlessKronicles March 5, 2013 at 6:11 am

Have you tried fruity pebbles froyo? I haven’t, but they have it at the place near me!

The Kidless Kronicles

Mona March 5, 2013 at 6:12 am

The steamer looks amazing!!

One thing I cold eat ( and do eat everyday) is dark chocolate:)

Stacey March 5, 2013 at 6:16 am

That is amusing about the Fruity Pebbles…..that steamer is pretty neat! I steam nearly all my veggies when I don’t have time to roast (my fav way to eat them!)

Tina @ Best Body Fitness March 5, 2013 at 6:22 am

I’m with you on the lemon gum! Love it! And Fruity Pebbles…like the ONE childhood cereal I hated. Give me Cinnamon Toast Crunch any day, though, and I would devour a box a week right alongside you. I wonder if it’s gluten free? Then I could eat it all the time and be healthy. ;)

Helen March 5, 2013 at 6:27 am

I’ve been obsessed with my juicer lately

Jessica March 5, 2013 at 6:30 am

I haven’t had fruity pebbles in FOREVER! I’m thinking I need to add that to my grocery list asap!

Lindsay's List March 5, 2013 at 6:46 am

me me! pick me kirsten!!

kristina March 5, 2013 at 6:46 am

That steamer looks so cool! I totally am dying for one now!
Oh- and my addicting cereal is Lucky Charms…its been a few years, but the craving still strikes every March! :)

Jen March 5, 2013 at 6:47 am

I have also been LOVING Heartthrob. I get to see them tomorrow in Minneapolis….can’t wait!

Corey @ When We Wander March 5, 2013 at 6:48 am

1. my gel manicure in OPIs Russian Navy – no chips yet!!!
2. Green smoothie to start my day – like nature’s redbull
3. my ipad – I got it a couple months ago and i’m obsessed

Laura March 5, 2013 at 6:51 am

that steamer looks amazing!

Katie @ KatieEnPursuit March 5, 2013 at 7:03 am

I’m obsessed with that gum as well! It’s the perfect amount of sweet without going overboard! If I had to eat one thing everyday, it would be some sort of salad (that’s kind of cheating so I could throw a trillion things in there!) :)

Linda March 5, 2013 at 7:18 am

The steamer looks great! I’ve been loving: my kindle, shameless, tea that you can buy at Aveda, almond butter, and Salazon dark chocolate with sea salt.

Erin March 5, 2013 at 7:46 am

That steamer looks great! Not sure the price is practical, though. Yikes!

I’ve been loving on the chili rubbed mango from TJ’s – we always bought the unsweetened one but I was a bit daring last time. Pleasantly surprised! And if my job was to eat something everyday, it would be guacamole with sweet potato chips and baby carrots. :)

Colleen March 5, 2013 at 7:49 am

That steamer looks pretty sweet- good for someone like me who really can’t stand to cook. :) My guilty cereal pleasure alternates between Lucky Charms & Froot Loops. Dry, as a snack.

Tamara March 5, 2013 at 7:54 am

I would definitely pick oats, since I eat them almost every day anyway. Or maybe spinach (same goes for that), since it’s even healthier!

Way to go, Kate! That was one awesome giveaway. :)

stacey March 5, 2013 at 8:13 am

homemade granola!! Love it.

Rachel March 5, 2013 at 8:21 am

I am obsessed with that lemon square gum!!!!! If it was my job to eat something all day/every day I would probably go with some type of delicious sandwich.

Denyne March 5, 2013 at 8:28 am

Gum, I have packs everywhere, never have enough. Loyal to Trident, might have to try the lemon. That seamer looks great.

April March 5, 2013 at 8:46 am

My healthy food obsession would be hummus quinoa cakes that I recently discovered. I have made them so many times now that I memorized the recipe! They are packed with veggies and protein.

My not so healthy food obsession are these butterscotch oatmeal cookies I made over the weekend. I have eaten far, far too many!

Fruity pebbles are awesome…no shame in that!

Angie March 5, 2013 at 8:58 am

I love Extra gum, however, I was so disappointed with the lemon gum. I love lemon bars, lemon pie, etc. The gum got too hard for me to chew after only a few minutes. I’ll just have to stick with peppermint and spearmint.

Jessica Y March 5, 2013 at 9:00 am

That steamer is awesome!
