three thrilling things on thursday.

in random rambles

HI GUYS!

i truly apologize for the lackluster posts as of late. between my busy schedule and my lack of energy, i don’t have it in me to type any deep thoughts. i am sure i will be back to my old self soon.

in the meantime.. guess what you get? another list! that’s right. i’m a blogger, so publishing lists is actually in my job description. use of alliteration is another part of blogger responsibility, so i am just doing my duty as a blogger with that title up there. as the title clearly tells you, i am going to list three thrilling things going on in my life right now.

1. i am going back to bikram yoga tonight!

image

i stopped going to bikram because my (super cheap groupon) month membership ran out and i couldn’t justify paying the high price to keep going when i have a gym membership that’s paid for through july 2012.

however, just last night, i was telling marshall how much i missed bikram and i wished it wasn’t so damn expensive. i was also telling him that it is known to help with digestion and so i might as well consider bikram yoga a medical expense. right? right?

oddly enough, kristen text me today and asked if i wanted to go tonight. it was meant to be. i am springing for the high price tag and going. i need it. my body will thank me, i am sure.

oh, and here’s a side note… you may wonder WTF is going on with my workouts lately, seeing how this blog is supposed to be about meals and MOVES.. well, here’s the story:

i am still doing jamie eason’s 12 week trainer.. but i took a couple weeks off due to my trip to LA and my medical procedures AND the fact that i caught a cold throughout all that.

because of that crap, i didn’t work out for seven days. then, on monday, i did a lower body workout, tuesday i did triceps+rode the bike and yesterday i did an AMAZING kettlebell workout recommended by naomi.  it was SO fun. my whole body is sore.

my plans are to start back up with jamie eason’s plan on monday, so i have a free pass to do whatever workouts i feel like until then.

do you see??! all the stars are aligning here, folks. i am supposed to go to overpriced bikram yoga tonight. and i will.

2. i had to use my heat seater seat heater on my way to work this morning.

and yes, i really did type “heat seater” first. i am a little dyslexic at times.

i am SO PUMPED about this because it means one thing: winter is on its way!

i like all seasons. spring, summer, fall.. but i LOVE winter. i am such a fan of snow and all that comes with it.

image

snowboarding. blizzards. hoodies. beanies. boots. thanksgiving. christmas. watching dogs run in really deep snow.

don’t get me wrong.. you will probably see me day dreaming about summer again once april comes around.. but that’s why utah is so great. we get the best of all seasons.  and no matter how much i day dream about summer, i still love winter the most.

3. i made it to 2 o’clock thinking today was actually wednesday.

image [source]

i went downstairs and asked my co-worker to do something for me on thursday night before she left the office.

she asked, “you mean tonight?”

doh. i am LOSING MY MIND!

but the thrilling thing is that i thought it was a day earlier in the week. usually it’s the other way around. good job, brain!

***********************************

i made a delicious minetrone soup on tuesday night. it was so good that marshall had thirds! that never happens. i plan to get that recipe up ASAP.. working on it.. also, if there’s anything else you’d like to see from me sometime soon, whether it be a specific topic (food or exercise related or just life related) or a certain type of post (ie: a whole day, healthy recipes, etc) please let me know. i want to use my blogging time effectively, so i might as well blog about what you guys want to read about.. aye?

Qs~

1. what thrilling thing is floating your boat at the moment?

2. are you excited for winter? does it snow where you live? (sorry aussies.. you can reverse this Q if you want!)

Amy Ramos October 20, 2011 at 6:40 pm

I go in for bloodwork and I am hoping the results are a positive one. Do you have any good luck vibes to send my way?

I am not a fan of winter…although I am a winter baby (born in February). Fall is my favorite season, however, California and Fall do not go together.

Julia October 20, 2011 at 6:50 pm

Utah has some amazing seasons. I am finding I actually miss the snow after a few years without Michigan winters. Unfortunately, Shanghai has mild winters from what I’ve heard, so I guess I’ll just have to get my snow fix when I visit Michigan.

I’m excited for the minestrone recipe. I’d be doubly excited if it wasn’t 80+ degrees outside.

I would love to see some more cute owl paraphernalia. Every time I see anything owl I want to grab it and buy it for you, but I think Tyler would think I was nuts if I did.

Kristin @ STUFT Mama October 20, 2011 at 7:17 pm

It doesn’t snow where we live (San Diego, CA), but I do get really excited to wear sweats. I have some new Uggs that have been sitting in my closet for about 2 years because it’s never quite cold enough to wear them. ha ha ha! I wnat ot live in the snow just for a week or so. :)
Have fun at yoga!

Densie October 20, 2011 at 7:31 pm

Yes, I am excited for winter – as a matter of fact I bought some new Snowboard pants today YAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaY

janetha October 21, 2011 at 12:57 pm

You and Lisa need to come to Utah this winter!!

Densie October 21, 2011 at 2:05 pm

That would be nice but I think Lisa will be too busy for too many fun trips:(

Katie October 20, 2011 at 7:43 pm

Maybe some more WINTER dish recipes :)

janetha October 21, 2011 at 12:58 pm

Great, thanks for the suggestion!

Katie October 21, 2011 at 5:55 pm

No problem! The recipes you create never ever let me down & trust me I’ve tried a lot of them haha

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate October 20, 2011 at 7:46 pm

I actually hate winter! Fall all the way :)

Tara @ Sweat like a Pig October 20, 2011 at 7:56 pm

I loved that you remembered us Aussies!! I HATE winter. Granted it never really gets below 16 Celcius here in winter, but I’m a summer girl through and through. I love spending day after day at the beach in 40 degree heat and 20 degrees is sweatshirt weather :) I’m moving to London in March so I’m going to be getting two summers in a row – lucky me! Have fun at Bikram tonight :)

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List October 20, 2011 at 8:08 pm

A Day in the Life of Janetha is always interesting…or maybe your fall looks (as in fashion – not like facial expressions geared towards the season). You always dress SO cute!

janetha October 21, 2011 at 12:59 pm

Hahaha.. I should do a facial expression post for sure. Hilarious. I don’t like doing clothing posts because I feel like they are a dime a dozen in blog land and I really am NOT fashion-forward. Sure, I may look like I know how to dress myself, but nothing worth posting.. I tried that once and felt like a goon. However, thank you for the compliment! xoxo

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga October 20, 2011 at 8:15 pm

Have fun at yoga. You deserve it!

And I have days all the time where I dont know if I’m coming or going :)

Kristina @ spabettie October 20, 2011 at 8:19 pm

heat seater. that’s something I would do.

the ski lift photo literally gave me butterflies! I. Love. To. Ski. I love winter! dogs jumping in snow – that’s always a favorite. poor Low Rider Basil does NOT like the snow… I know Randy can relate…

janetha October 21, 2011 at 12:59 pm

hhahaha.. yes. yes he can.

Chels October 20, 2011 at 8:27 pm

I have just started using my heat seaters as well, and I HATE winter. I am just such a wuss when it comes to cold, I would rather be inside warm and cuddled in a huge blanket come winter.

Lauren October 20, 2011 at 8:27 pm

I thought today was Wednesday too!! Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who’s loosing it. But at least that means tomorrow is Friday. Hell yes!

Susan October 20, 2011 at 8:33 pm

I WILL be excited for winter once I can get my heater to stop making awful noises every two seconds. Boo bah hiss.

Have fun at yoga my love.

katie October 20, 2011 at 8:36 pm

Hey love! Im excited for winter because it means holidays and also I do love rocking triple layers, so yeah Im excited ; )

Yay for hot yoga, Im actually going to do it more! I think it will be awesome for the winter!

Love you!!

Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats October 20, 2011 at 8:36 pm

I wish I had a seater heater. lol. I had to scrape my windshield for the first time this morning! :P

Something “thrilling” going on in my life right now is only having 11 days of classes left and I applied for my RN license today. Growing up is getting scary!

janetha October 21, 2011 at 1:00 pm

GO you!

Lauren @ What Lauren Likes October 20, 2011 at 8:45 pm

I plan on doing NOTHING! Midterms=over :)

Stephanie @cookinfanatic October 20, 2011 at 8:46 pm

For some reason I’ve been the same way this week, thinking it was the day before it actually is?! So much better than the other way around tho haha – nothing’s worse than thinking it’s Thursday and finding out it’s truly only Wednesday… boo! I am not a huge fan of winter, I love hot weather/summer… The past few years here in VA we have been getting way too much snow for my liking!

chelsey @ clean eating chelsey October 20, 2011 at 8:50 pm

Last week on THursday I thought it was Tuesday.. So when I saw someone’s post with “thursday” in the title, I thought “hmm, doesn’t she mean Tuesday?” – and then I realized I was wrong and I got so so excited.

janetha October 21, 2011 at 1:00 pm

that’s amazing.

Cait @ Cait hates Cake October 20, 2011 at 8:54 pm

Ugh, I thought it was Thursday yesterday. Blah! And yeah, it definitely snows where I live – Chicago. I like winter only around Christmas. I’m totally over it by mid-January and would like it to go away.

Maren October 20, 2011 at 9:11 pm

haha I call them “butt warmers”. I never had them in my leather seats (awful) until I inherited the Acura from Nate when we traded my car for the pickup. Now I have them and LOVE them.

Not sure I love the fact that winter is coming, but I do enjoy the first snow. Apparently it gets to be -40* here more than a few times, so I’m not really looking forward to that!

janetha October 21, 2011 at 1:01 pm

oh BURR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eden October 20, 2011 at 9:27 pm

Oh jbean,
First of all, you aren’t “lack luster”.

I love you, but I hate it when bloggers are all “guys, i dont know what to blog about…what do you want me to blog about…”

Dude, anything you put up, as luck luster as you may think it is, is golden. You don’t need to post everyday if you can’t think of anything. I know you love blogging, but don’t force it. Its like poop!

and now onto other things….
butt warmers. i need one. i also need a “butt air freshener” for obvious reasons. i guess I should also lay off the chili and hummus….

janetha October 21, 2011 at 1:03 pm

I know you hate that! But honestly, i DO know what to blog about. I have about 18 different ideas… and they can’t all come first, so I wanted to see what those reading were wanting. Mainly so I can prioritize those 18 ideas.

And I know you are being sweet and think everything is golden, but listing a bunch of shit and throwing in stock photos does not make a golden blog post. It does, however, make for a good time for me. I am a listing FANATIC.

Love you!

Susan October 20, 2011 at 9:27 pm

I wish I could knit things other than dishcloths and scarves, otherwise I would totally knit you a beanie. Except, we call them toques in Canada.

I’m excited for winter too actually. Except this year, NO skating. Haha.

<3

janetha October 21, 2011 at 1:03 pm

I wish I could knit period! And, uh, yeah. No skating for you!!!!

Hope October 20, 2011 at 10:14 pm

One thing about my new car that I miss from my old car are my heated seats. I absolutely loved those things! Luckily, my fiance has them in his car so whenever I’m in his car I’m sure to put those babies on!

I’m excited for winter. I like the snow :)

Erica October 20, 2011 at 10:27 pm

I soooo want to go to bikram! I have a free session coupon and just havent been able to go! Mmm to minestrone-i am soup obsessed right now!

Krissie J October 20, 2011 at 11:29 pm

My week ended yesterday as we took 2 days off to have a 4 day weekend. ;) Even though I am a n00b to snowboarding, I am SO excited for winter. My new Burton shell came in and I wore it for a good 20 min before putting it away. I wish we had better mountains here, I’m totally jealous of you all out west!

Meg October 20, 2011 at 11:42 pm

“Dogs running in really deep snow” Hee hee! I’m on the fence about winter… if I dusted off my snowboard and took to the mountain more I might like it better! I do like cozy sweaters, boots, fires in the fireplace, hot cider/tea/chocolate. I think the REAL thing I don’t like about winter is the shorter days… and people who do not know how to drive in snow make me nuts!

Heather (Heather's Dish) October 20, 2011 at 11:45 pm

I don’t adore winter…fall is my season…but I am super excited about thanksgiving and Christmas because we are stating home this year! How awesome would it be to have a white Christmas? You don’t even have to answer that: it’d be SUPER awesome :)

Katie October 20, 2011 at 11:47 pm

I’m excited for you to have snow! Not excited for ME to have snow – but I’m glad it makes you happy. I’m thrilled about the leaves changing color right now – I wake up every morning and run to the window just so I can see the bright red tree in my front yard.

Emily R. October 20, 2011 at 11:56 pm

My husband and I just moved to Salt Lake a couple weeks ago, and I must say, I’m enjoying the warmer temperatures now! Not so much looking forward to winter… ;) although it will be fun to have a white Christmas for once. :)

Elaine October 21, 2011 at 12:13 am

also slightly dyslexic over here…and i thought it was friday. all day. so sad when i found out i was a day ahead of myself.

i love your lists. it’s a fun way to read a blog :)

Sara @ Sara Says... Bake. October 21, 2011 at 12:13 am

Yes! It snows SO MUCH where I live. One time, my town was even on the national news because we got like 10 feet of snow in like 3 days. NOT exaggerating. We had a week off from school.

And I am excited for winter! The first snowfall always makes me want to sit on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa, watch a christmas movie, and watch the snow fall outside. That and wrap presents.

Clare @ Fitting It All In October 21, 2011 at 12:23 am

bikram has some weird addictive quality that makes the cost so worth it. Hope it helps your issues!

Aleks October 21, 2011 at 4:50 am

i hate winter. i loved winters in dubai because it was the ‘less hot’ season (actually, there are 2 seasons there: hot and very hot). but now that i moved to ireland, i am preparing for my first winter in 3 years. need to buy boots, coats, scarves, gloves, beanies and godknowswhat. but i have to say, i am thrilled for having christmas season this year! i will be in zurich in november-december so i hope to hit all the christmas markets and drink my weight in hot chocolate.

hope your bikram went great!

janetha October 21, 2011 at 1:07 pm

i am really, really, really jealous of you.

cathy@1970kikiproject October 21, 2011 at 6:12 am

hope you had a good time “chilling out” (haha), ok ommming out at bikram. i so hear you on the overprice: here, too. i would so love to go (never tried it) – but the price is holding me back.
i am not a winter fan. sure, if very day was sunny, crisp and clear, i’d be into it, but in southern ontario, it’s often bitterly cold, damp, grey…and snowy, of course! whatever – at least its only temporary! life goes on!
happy friday!

Liz October 21, 2011 at 9:23 am

I agree, winter is so under-rated!

Naomi(onefitfoodie) October 21, 2011 at 9:46 am

glad you liked the workout!! OMG i am so not a winter person and yet from the northeast…go figure…but that pic of the snow just got me kinda excited to go skiing this winter!!
ahhh I lOVE bikram esp in the colder months!

love you!

Cat @Breakfast to Bed October 21, 2011 at 10:48 am

My sledding helmet is ready. My winter running vest is new and ADORABLE, I have a new hot spiced cranberry spiked cider recipe, Buckeyes will be made peppermint drop cookies.

I really need to start making and freezing dough. Don’t worry, I won’t miss national Chocolate Peppermint day, because I just made it up. Ummmm Let’s celebrate it 12/10

Cat @Breakfast to Bed October 21, 2011 at 10:49 am

buckeyes AND peppermint drop cookies-oh the excitement- it made me dumb.

janetha October 21, 2011 at 1:08 pm

Feb 11th is peppermint patty day!

Jenny October 21, 2011 at 10:49 am

I always say heat seater too! I don’t know what it is, just something about the words, but I always mix it up when I say it. Oh well, sounds close enough, right?

Kelsey October 21, 2011 at 11:14 am

Topic I would like to see on M+M — the recipe for those vegan tacos your friend made. Chain him up + torture him if you have to. I need that recipe!

Q1- Ashley’s curry spiced butternut squash soup is currently floating my boat. Big time — I need to make more. And soon!

Q2 – I do not like winter + you can have all of colorado’s snow b/c I am allergic to it.

Happy weekend starter day!!!!

janetha October 21, 2011 at 1:09 pm

I am working on him….

Jocelyn @ Peace Love Nutrition October 21, 2011 at 11:43 am

I’m more of a beach girl– I guess that’s what I get from growing up in Southampton!!

ps I’m such a Yoga but I’ve never actually tried Bikram Yoga! It’s something about the hot room that scares me– plus I feel like I’m going to slip on my matt– even with a towel

Jen@FoodFamilyFitness October 21, 2011 at 11:56 am

I love all 4 seasons in Michigan, I don’t think I could handle living in one climate year round!! I do love winter and snow, but hate when there’s so much snow in a short period of time…unless it’s a weekend and the whole family is snowed in together :)

Annie October 21, 2011 at 12:05 pm

I always call them ‘heat seaters!’ Silly words. Also, I may have bought my current car mostly for the seat heaters – they are invaluable during winter in Denver!

Liz @ Southern Charm October 21, 2011 at 12:37 pm

Well, winter in New Orleans is like fall every where else … so yes, I can’t wait for winter!! :)

Kim @ The Family Practice October 21, 2011 at 12:50 pm

I like snow – but being from Seattle we only get a little each year. I’m looking forward to our first winter in Utah! I really can’t even imagine it!

Christin October 21, 2011 at 12:58 pm

I love going to Tahoe or Big Bear to snow board in the winter…I have only gone a couple times, so I suck at it, but that’s about all the snow I get to see, so I love it! I live on the 60-80 degree most of the year round central/southern CA coast…I love it, but sometimes I wish I had seasons also :)

Looking forward to seeing some more of your workouts…if it wasn’t for you and Lindsay I would have like, no motivation, and a huge(r) ass! :)

janetha October 21, 2011 at 1:11 pm

FUn! I have been wanting to snowboard in California but haven’t gotten around to it!

Colleenzo October 21, 2011 at 1:02 pm

I’m excited for winter! Everyone thinks I’m crazy, but I so prefer it to summer. I just think winter is very romantic, what with all the cuddling to stay warm. In summer, it’s so hot I get mad if anyone touches me. Also, I’m a super homebody, and in the winter nobody pesters me to be all social and stuff!

I’m excited today because on my way home from work I’m going to stop by a cute store and pick up a hoody-poncho that I’ve had my eye on. Payday, baby!

janetha October 21, 2011 at 1:12 pm

oooo sounds cute!!!

Rose October 21, 2011 at 2:29 pm

I moved to SoCal, in part, to avoid ever having to deal with the snow. I am the biggest cold wuss ever.

Cassy October 21, 2011 at 2:52 pm

more RANDY posts.

:)

Courtney October 21, 2011 at 3:46 pm

OH MY GOODNESS, that really IS a badass kettlebell workout! It is bookmarked and I think I will bust it out with my 1Pooder on Sunday!

Kristie October 21, 2011 at 3:51 pm

Lists and alliterations are two of my favourite things. The fact that this post combines them gets two giant thumbs up from me.

Stars are totally aligned on that bikram sesh. Totally worth the splurge when you’re doing something that awesome for the bod. Own it.

I don’t share the winter love with you though, sorry dear. I like it for about one month TOPS in December, for the christmas season and only when I can watch it out the window without having to go in it (or DRIVE it in, ugh). Maybe I need to take up some snowboarding to learn to appreciate, eh? If only our winter didn’t last like half the year I probably wouldn’t be as opposed to it….

Show me some more of those genius healthified comfort food recipes of yours, you’re so pro at those!
