awesome things ii.

by Janetha on August 18, 2011

in random rambles

i think my post on monday was a little too grumpy! i am going to lighten the mood around here and do another round of awesome things. remember the first time? that was fun. why not repeat? that’s what i thought.

image

[nataliedee.com]

awesome: my new camera lens.

IMG_2319

i have wanted this lens ever since i got my DSLR camera, but i was always too cheap to buy it. when i saw this post of susan’s the other day, i decided to suck it up and just buy it already!

IMG_2316

it’s already fun to play with!

IMG_2327IMG_2326

can’t wait to use it more.

awesome: snack plates (slash) interactive lunches.

IMG_2296

cottage cheese mixed with ranch seasoning, celery sticks, baby bell peppers, apple slices and peanut butter.  don’t these kind of plates remind you of miss gliding calm??

awesome: mini cast iron skillets.

IMG_2308

here’s a story. i have been to the new harmons in farmington twice. both times i have been, i have stopped to admire this baby skillet. i never bought it because i know one: i don’t need it and two: marshall would kill me—the last thing we need is more useless kitchen stuff.  so, i just admired it at the store, it all its mini glory. let me give you a size comparison.

IMG_2309

eeeee! I LOVE MINI THINGS!  well, guess who came home from the store with the baby skillet? yep, marshall. he loves me. he really loves me. what the hell should i use it for?? single serving pizookie?

awesome: going to the gym during wheel of fortune.

image

dude. this made running way more enjoyable! if i could only watch one type of television for the rest of my life, it would be game shows. sorry, food network, game shows win at life. wheel of fortune is a favorite of mine, but my life would have been even better if the original family feud with richard dawson was on. or the good old match game ‘78! (does anyone know what i am even talking about?) anyway, i’m a wheel watcher! side note: it is hard to take photos while on the treadmill…blur factor.

awesome: running a 5k in my vibrams.

imagephoto

this was the longest distance i have run in my vibrams yet! i am still loving them, for the record. i walked another .4 miles on 15% incline after the 3.1 miles, rounding it out at 3.5 because i am a weirdo with numbers.

awesome: husbands who cook.

IMG_2362

do you spy his izze soda?

marshall had dinner ready when i got home! he made tacos and was frying himself some corn tortillas when i walked in the door.

IMG_2365

i made mine a taco salad—romaine, ground beef that he lovingly seasoned and sauteed with green chiles, red bell pepper and white onion, black beans, mushrooms, pico, greek yogurt and avocado.

IMG_2366

plus a little cholula to spice it up.

IMG_2375

delicious.

awesome: i came home yesterday to a package from izze—they sent marshall a shirt because he was so bummed that the original shirt they sent wasn’t his size!

IMG_2381

um, that was so nice! thanks, izze!

pssst, you have until 6 PM MST on thursday 8/18 to enter the giveaway.

awesome: julie entering my izze giveaway on marshall’s behalf.

image

that’s just hilarious. i love you, julie.

awesome: this shirt.

IMG_2378

i picked it up at ross. i laughed out loud in the aisle. it’s perfect. and, also awesome, it was 8 bucks! running sucks!

awesome: the healthy living summit is just hours away.

image

i leave at 12:55 AM thursday night—err, friday morning. first red eye ever—NOT looking forward to that. oh well.

i already have my packing pile pretty much complete! that’s a first for me– i usually procrastinate.  for those of you going to the healthy living summit and have asked me what i am bringing along/wearing/etc.  here is a brief rundown for those who asked:

  • a few casual outfits (sundresses, shorts+tshirts, flats, flip flops) for friday during the day, saturday night and sunday during the day
  • cocktail attire for friday night
  • an outfit to present in—eh, i have two options. not sure how casual to be?
  • a couple workout outfits + shoes
  • getting ready / bathroom essentials
  • laptop, camera, phone and the chargers for all three (plus extra memory cards)
  • business cards
  • a reusable water bottle (they will have filtered water stations instead of bottled water)
  • extra room! trying to pack light so there is room for the swag
  • penny and randy (think they will fit in my carry-on?)

i am super excited to see some old faces and meet SEVERAL new ones. i can’t even keep track of all the people going.. so if you are going to the healthy living summit and you see me, come talk to me.  good plan. i will also be speaking on a panel with three lovely ladies, so i hope some of you get to listen to us ramble.

also, i have never been to philly so i can’t wait to see a new town! if you have any “MUST DO”s for me.. holler.

well, another awesome thing is that marshall has left the kitchen for me to clean up. okay, that’s not awesome, but he did make me dinner so i owe it to him, right?

check ya later! tomorrow is a BIG DAY at our house—stay tuned!

Qs~

1. fill in the blank. awesome:______________________________.

2. what’s your favorite game show?

HAPPY THURSDAY

Roz@weightingfor50 August 18, 2011 at 12:18 am

Look forward to your big day, and the fact your husband cooks is AWESOME!!! My favorite game show by FAR is Jeopardy (I secretly want to be on there….ok…I just wrote it, so it’s not so secret anymore! :) ) There are SOOO many awesome things in life, but this week, I think Farmer’s Markets are awesome!!! All the best, hope your week is going well.

Allison @ Food for Healing August 18, 2011 at 12:27 am

vibrams are awesome. i wore my running shoes monday and today for spin class, and they are just not as comfortable, i have definitely fell in love with them more than i realized.
Also i like to have my numbers rounded when i am on the treadmill.
I like jeopardy, makes me feel smart if i get a question right!

Amanda August 18, 2011 at 12:38 am

yes an individual pizookie sounds perfect!!!! Marshall is so sweet for getting you the skillet. Love!

Andy and I made taco salad tonight too! One of my favorites.

Ty August 18, 2011 at 12:38 am

Whenever I go to the gym it’s at the time that wheel of fortune is on. Too bad I kind of hate wheel of fortune. o.o

I love when they’ve got a baseball game on. I almost scream at the TV in the middle of the hundred or so random strangers who are trying to get their fitness on and don’t care one bit about the baseball game.

Wouldn’t that be awesome if I did?

I bet that nobody would use the two treadmills next to me after that!

“Why is that running girl yelling all angrily? It’s just a run, she needs to calm down. Now she’s cheering and fist pumping? Okay. That girl is crazy.”

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:19 pm

Haha I almost shouted out at WOF…

Mama Pea August 18, 2011 at 12:56 am

So many things:

I just bought that lens a few weeks ago. Love it!

I want that shirt.

I want to win your giveaway.

I want Marshall to cook me dinner.

Have so much fun at HLS!!!

Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn August 18, 2011 at 1:00 am

awesome: HLS IS SO SOOOONNN!!! I can’t wait to meet youuu g-frand!! Anddd I totally 1000% am confident in myself today. THAT is what is awesome. #sweetlife

Kristina @ spabettie August 18, 2011 at 1:20 am

awesome: Match Game.
awesome: Gene Rayburn’s long skinny microphone.
awesome: Charles Nelson Riley.
awesome: all the cheesy innuendo.
Jason had never heard of Match Game, so several years ago I rented several episodes from Netflix. Yes. I did. They were SO awesome to watch.

and I am a wheel watcher. last year I tried to try out. it’s a lottery pick to even get on stage, so I missed out. they are coming back again next month (the wheelmobile!) and I am going to try out again. I want to be on that show SO bad!!

awesome: me getting on the show this year.

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:19 pm

oh my gosh. favorite comment ever. hahahaha your awesome thing WINS

Kristina @ spabettie August 18, 2011 at 6:39 pm

haaa – you started it, talking about my favorite show ever! :D

Cheri Z August 18, 2011 at 1:25 am

Awesome – daughters who help you put your classroom together. (My 13 year-old is also a HUGE fan of mini things!)

Match Game – loved Gene Raeburn!

Jessica August 18, 2011 at 1:30 am

Awesome: Going to find a new place to live in two weeks – so excited to move from WA to CA.
My favorite game show has to be The Price is Right, but I liked it better with Bob Barker, (I want to be in the audience sooo badly), but Family Feud is a close second.

marisa August 18, 2011 at 1:51 am

You will love the lens! And you should come live here because my friend got to be on Wheel of Fortune. Her episode airs on October 10. Eric thinks I should go on there. I’ll just have to keep playing Hanging with Friends to get good enough. And I think I need one of those mini pans. Too cute. Pictures coming after I submit this.

Elaine August 18, 2011 at 1:58 am

Awesome: summer fruits.
Awesome: buying a can of soda today, having a few sips, and realizing I don’t care for soda anymore. (I cut it out of my life about 4 months ago, but thought it sounded good today – so glad it wasn’t!)
Favorite game show: I’m classic; Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. It’s a great hour of TV.
Looking forward to whatever your big day at your house is tomorrow!

Jennyb August 18, 2011 at 1:58 am

awesome: my family (mainly mum) supporting me best they can right now.
awesome: Body Step, had the best workout ever from this on tuesday & can’t wait for next tuesday & even more for september when the timetable changes & its on 4 times a week! Yay!
awesome: Going for a 3 mile run tuesday & not being bothered by my shins at all and that was after a step class too! means the (expensive & painful) physio is working.

As for game shows, i don’t really watch them here in the UK as they are all a bit naff really. I’d rather read awesome blogs instead!

xx

Erica August 18, 2011 at 2:13 am

Haha-love that the man bought you the mini skillet! You can make a tiny cornbread! And a tasty dinnertoo? Yum! Im going out to bfast with a friend today which is pretty awesome

Starr August 18, 2011 at 2:16 am

Has anyone told you how ridiculousy hot your hubby is? Well, I am sure you already know that, hence that’s why you married him.
I love reading your blog.
Thanks for keeping it real.

Eden August 18, 2011 at 2:42 am

You, my dear, are awesome.
(PS, sending you the “roast” tomorrow!”

Kelsey August 18, 2011 at 3:07 am

awesome: anything cast iron — I am slowly destroying our non stick pans so I can replace them all with cast iron…. shhhh — don’t tell the boyfriend who has to pay for the new pans!!

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:20 pm

your secret is safe with me.

Anne August 18, 2011 at 3:20 am

Thanks for doing a post like this, reminding me to look for things that are “awesome” :-)

Naomi(onefitfoodie) August 18, 2011 at 5:59 am

i love your posts! so fun and informative at the same time :) game shows do rock i have to say!! i love wheel of fortune…my roomate in college used to watch it by herself and I would hear her screaming at the TV haha. oh my gosh your dinner looks fantastic with the mexican bowl!!!! i would toss on some cheese and throw it in the broiler for a min or so so the cheese gets all melty mmmmm
awesome…..I got a new job YESSSSSSS

Karen August 18, 2011 at 6:22 am

I love game shows!! The Game Show Network is fun to watch! I like Press Your Luck – no whammy, no whammy!! Can’t wait to meet you at HLS!!

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga August 18, 2011 at 6:53 am

Have fun at HLS! I am not going and I am okay with that! I have spent a pretty penny on photography workshops and trips the past 6 weeks so I am good to go for awhile.

Til I see the lens you got. I have that lens. I have thought about getting the 50mm 1.4 or 1.2 but those are not toys. At all.

Currently my go to is the 24-70 mm 2.8 I never take it off! But am looking into a few others.

awesome:______________________________.
That would be photography and lens shopping!

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:20 pm

Thanks, I will check that 2.8 out!

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:21 pm

HAHAHA i looked at the price. never mind!

lindsay August 18, 2011 at 7:02 am

oh izze, we have a fridge fully stocked for my hubs. I wonder if James and Marshall should have an Izze throw down?!

that would be AWESOME!

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:21 pm

YES!

Eates-A-Lot August 18, 2011 at 7:27 am

As a former frequent traveler to Philly, you have to go get a Philly Cheesesteak. Through out all your standards, they are unbelievable. UNBELIEVABLE. I’m a Pittsburgher so I’m not loyal to Geno’s or Pat’s. Also one thing I do love to do (as nerdy as it is) I take a run on FDR Bvd… turn on my Rocky tunes and run the steps to the art muesum. I abosolutely do it with the fist pumps at the end.

Also – be careful running your Vibrams on the treadmill. I noticed that mine wore out A LOT faster when I used them on a treadmill rather than running outside.

Game show? Match Game. Watch it, best game show ever.

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:22 pm

Thanks for the tips! My co-worker told me Jim’s was the place to try one?

Did you see my Match Game reference above? Couldn’t agree more.

Callie @ Callieflower Kitchen August 18, 2011 at 7:52 am

I’m so glad you’re packing penny and randy ;) haha, see you soon!

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:22 pm

I know! Watch out, Randy is a bed hog.

Lee August 18, 2011 at 7:57 am

Jeopardy! I’m a big Jeopardy fan. I want to be on Jeopardy but I can’t because Jason works for a station that airs it. And um, I’d have to take a test and stuff.

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:22 pm

haha yeah that whole have to be a genius thing… ugh

Heather (Heather's Dish) August 18, 2011 at 8:08 am

OK i’m the EXACT same way with workout numbers…if i have a way to track it (like on a treadmill) i totally have to do increments of .5 or else it doesn’t feel complete. and the mini cast irons are SO adorable! my uncle-in-law makes the best cornbread in his and it’s always perfect cut up for the kids in the family :)

Hope August 18, 2011 at 8:09 am

So exciting that you are coming to my city! :) Make sure you try at least one Stephen Starr restaurant! I recommend El Vez or the Continental Mid-town! So good! Each one is uniquely themed and don’t forget to check out the bathrooms! He is known for his unique bathrooms! :)

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:23 pm

cool! thanks! are you going to be around? it would be awesome to meet you.

Hope August 18, 2011 at 6:35 pm

You’re welcome! I’m not sure of any meet-ups going on but if anything is going on at some point this weekend, let me know! :)

Corey @ Learning Patience August 18, 2011 at 8:11 am

Tabasco – AWESOME. I put it on almost everything! I love the spice it adds! My favorite game show is definitely Jeopardy! The hubs and I play every night at 730….I even keep track of right answers – competitive much? :-) xoxo from Trinidad

Have a great time at The Summit

Lindsey August 18, 2011 at 8:21 am

awesome: (hopefully) spotting celebrities [aka bloggers] durning my work day. i work on market street in a building that’s CONNECTED to the marriott. watch out for a blonde with a really excited face on, stalking the hotel during her lunch hour on friday.

i have a request…could you do a recap of your vibrams training plan? i’ve done a mile in mine but i didn’t work up to that, i just did it. i’m curious how you paced yourself to increase to 3ish miles. i don’t want to jump up too quickly. in case you’re wondering – i didn’t injure myself by doing a mile right away – i guess i have tough feet?

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:24 pm

lindsey! if you see me come talk to me. you are so close!

here is my recap of my training plan: no plan.
i ran a mile to start.
then i ran 2.
then i ran 3.1.
i have run in them 3 times–the rest of the time i have lifted in them or done the stairmill. i hate running.

haha.. yep, so i think my plan is not a good one!

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List August 18, 2011 at 8:24 am

Donna @ Life of a Happy Blonde August 18, 2011 at 8:31 am

Awesome: organizing the heck out of the closets in our new home finally!!!
Hmmm game show i would have to say Bumper Stumpers, a really lame canadian show where you had to guess what the sayings on license plates were :)
Have fun at HLS, i’m super bummed i had to give away my ticket because my passport renewal got delayed and won’t make it in time
Can’t wait for next year!

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Darn it! Passports.

Anna August 18, 2011 at 8:39 am

Favorite game show is definitely Price is Right…at least the last 10 minutes where they have the two big prize packs!

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Welcome to blog city! Yay for weights and for the showcase showdown!

J August 18, 2011 at 8:41 am

I laughed when you said “I am weird with numbers” … I am too !!!

… I like even numbers, or a number with a 5, I like starting things on Mondays or beginnings of the month … and I will go to extra lengths (even translating in my mind … i.e. 5 K better than 3.1 miles … and it still suits my rules :) … when I am in the US, Friday 13th doesn’t count because it Italy it is the 17th and vice versa … I know I am weird that way!) :) … a presto … J

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:25 pm

You are awesome.

Tiffany August 18, 2011 at 9:03 am

I didnt even know Wheel of Fortune was still on!

The only thing that would have made Marhsall’s meal more awesome is mushrooms!

Janetha August 18, 2011 at 5:26 pm

there were mushrooms! on my salad, not his tacos. yummmmushrooms.

Meg August 18, 2011 at 9:06 am

*You. You are awesome. Wow I just broke down the word “awesome” I love it! Never really thought of it. You give me some awe.

1. Anything and everything “mini” is awesome!! And animals are awesome!
2. Wheel of Fortune & Jeopardy

Have fun in Philly. I have never been, but want to go there someday. There is a restaurant that was featured on “Diners, Drive ins and Dives” that is in Philly and it looks and sounds amazing.

It is called: Memphis Taproom.

Their website is: http://www.memphistaproom.com

I am sure you will be up to your ears with food and friends, but just thought I would mention it.

Save travels!
