hey guys! time for more trip recapping.. hope you aren’t too sick of these yet!
in case you missed it:
last monday was the third day of our mexican getaway. it was probably the most relaxing day of the trip.. i will tell you why in a minute. first, i am going to give you a tour of the breakfast buffet where we dined each and every morning of our trip.
the breakfast was the best part of the all inclusive food. there were so many healthy choices (well, and unhealthy ones..) and the eggs were made to order.
there were probably 10 separate islands with lots of different options.
fresh juices galore!
there were typical breakfast items like sausage, bacon and fried hash browns..
carb CENTRAL.
muffins, croissants, bagels, french toast, waffles, pancakes..
i tried the french toast and waffles.. they both tasted exactly the same and were both suuuper dry.
the first few days, we had eggs made to order.
i usually ate my eggs with toast.. the only catch was that the toaster was ANCIENT and took a lonnnng time to toast the bread.
after a few days of realizing what we liked, this was where marshall & i spent a lot of time.. the yogurt bar. several flavors of yogurt, fruit and toppings.
tubs of granola, cereal, oats, nuts.. you name it!
here was my plate on monday morning:
an egg white omelet with all the veggies, fruit and a couple slices of wheat toast.
i ended up eating about half of what was on my plate before focusing my attention on my yogurt bowl:
plain yogurt, oats, granola and coconut.
all mixed up.
it was from here on out that i decided to only eat yogurt bowls every morning and skip everything else. glad it only took a couple mornings to realize this was the best decision.
after breakfast, marshall put a banana in his pocket in case we saw a monkey.
yes. my husband spent the trip carrying bananas in his pockets. you can imagine all the dirty jokes that were exchanged between us.
as luck would have it.. we DID see a monkey!
get out of town.. it was a monkey miracle.
marshall quickly lured him down the tree with the banana.
he immediately started munching away.
pretty soon, the banana was gone.
so he ate the peel. hilarious.
whew. that was exciting! i literally took 45 photos of this guy. you guys got off lucky with the 7 i posted. sorry if it was overkill, but come on.. we fed a monkey a banana! and were like a foot away from him! it was the best.
after the monkey shenanigans, it was time for our couples massage! it was the best ever. that is why monday was the most relaxing day of the whole trip. i haven’t had many massages, but this one was probably the best. the masseuses even massaged our faces! it was great.
after our massages, we cleaned up and went to town for a late lunch/early dinner with dana and sim.
we ended up at carlos & charlies, i had eaten there when i visited playa del carmen before and i really liked the food. the waiters were funny and friendly and REALLY liked to get in our photos.
i ordered a salad to start. it had apples, pecans, goat cheese and a honey balsamic vinaigrette dressing. IT WAS SO GOOD
they made marshall a bib. he DOES love tacos. it’s true!
i ordered the chicken quesadilla for my entree. i actually got this when i went there two years ago and remembered loving it.. so i got it again. repeat offender here, folks! it was just as good the second time.
group shot!
monkey shot!
after eating, dana & sim did some shopping. marshall and i weren’t into it, so we paid $10 to hold more monkeys. i mean, why not?
think penny and randy would be jealous of these two?!
i want a monkey.
we went back to the resort and ate lots of free ice cream. we met up with the rest of te group.. they were eating ice cream already.![]()
this is what we did every night. who needs dancing and night clubs when there is unlimited free ice cream?
P.S.—one of my bosses is on the right. just to give you an idea of what i deal with on a daily basis.
at least i get to go home to get away from him. his poor wife. (KIDDING. i am sure they are reading this right now!)
well.. there you have it. another day in paradise. hope you enjoyed! until next time.
Qs~
1. when you go to a restaurant you love, are you a repeat offender or do you order different dishes?
2. breakfast foods: do you prefer sweet or savory?

hahahaha those pictures of the monkey is so funny!
Repeat offender, for sure! I am trying to branch out though :D I am a big brunch person and my new goal is to order something i CAN’T or don’t make at home, i.e. omelets, scrambled eggs….so bring on the kellogg’s frosted flake-encrusted french toast sticks :D Yeaa boi!
Love your trip recaps, i am all about dessert over going out anytime!
1. I’m a repeat offender in general (can you say apples, fage, and fiber cereal?)
2. Savory usually unless it’s a special occasion. I feel like if I start too sweet then it starts my sweet tooth for the rest of the day…
That salad sounds and looks amaaazing!
And I want one of those teeny tiny monkeys, too!
Okay, Janetha. I have to tell you, I am REALLY frightened by monkeys. All I see in those pictures are evil creatures with death twinkles in their eyes :P
When staying at resorts I am all about the fruit for breakfast!! It’s always so much better down south. For some reason I never liked the dairy in Mexico. They always put this “crema” stuff on everything that tasted like cow crap.
As for sweet/savoury… savoury! Eggs are my favourite food breakfast EVER.
