day tres.

in meals

hey guys! time for more trip recapping.. hope you aren’t too sick of these yet!

in case you missed it:

last monday was the third day of our mexican getaway. it was probably the most relaxing day of the trip.. i will tell you why in a minute. first, i am going to give you a tour of the breakfast buffet where we dined each and every morning of our trip.

the breakfast was the best part of the all inclusive food. there were so many healthy choices (well, and unhealthy ones..) and the eggs were made to order.

there were probably 10 separate islands with lots of different options.

IMG_7231IMG_7238

fresh juices galore!

IMG_7232

there were typical breakfast items like sausage, bacon and fried hash browns..

IMG_7242

carb CENTRAL.

IMG_7244

muffins, croissants, bagels, french toast, waffles, pancakes..

IMG_7246

i tried the french toast and waffles.. they both tasted exactly the same and were both suuuper dry.

the first few days, we had eggs made to order.

IMG_7234IMG_7235

i usually ate my eggs with toast.. the only catch was that the toaster was ANCIENT and took a lonnnng time to toast the bread.

IMG_7237

after a few days of realizing what we liked, this was where marshall & i spent a lot of time.. the yogurt bar. several flavors of yogurt, fruit and toppings.

IMG_7239

tubs of granola, cereal, oats, nuts.. you name it!

IMG_7240

here was my plate on monday morning:

IMG_7249

an egg white omelet with all the veggies, fruit and a couple slices of wheat toast.

IMG_7252 IMG_7253 IMG_7254

i ended up eating about half of what was on my plate before focusing my attention on my yogurt bowl:

IMG_7251

plain yogurt, oats, granola and coconut.

all mixed up.

IMG_7258

it was from here on out that i decided to only eat yogurt bowls every morning and skip everything else. glad it only took a couple mornings to realize this was the best decision.

after breakfast, marshall put a banana in his pocket in case we saw a monkey.

yes. my husband spent the trip carrying bananas in his pockets. you can imagine all the dirty jokes that were exchanged between us.

as luck would have it.. we DID see a monkey!

IMG_7285

get out of town.. it was a monkey miracle.

marshall quickly lured him down the tree with the banana.

he immediately started munching away.

IMG_7293 IMG_7296 IMG_7300

pretty soon, the banana was gone.

IMG_7307

so he ate the peel. hilarious.

IMG_7318IMG_7321

whew. that was exciting! i literally took 45 photos of this guy. you guys got off lucky with the 7 i posted. sorry if it was overkill, but come on.. we fed a monkey a banana! and were like a foot away from him! it was the best.

after the monkey shenanigans, it was time for our couples massage! it was the best ever. that is why monday was the most relaxing day of the whole trip. i haven’t had many massages, but this one was probably the best. the masseuses even massaged our faces! it was great.

after our massages, we cleaned up and went to town for a late lunch/early dinner with dana and sim.

IMG_7359

we ended up at carlos & charlies, i had eaten there when i visited playa del carmen before and i really liked the food.  the waiters were funny and friendly and REALLY liked to get in our photos.

IMG_7356IMG_7358

i ordered a salad to start. it had apples, pecans, goat cheese and a honey balsamic vinaigrette dressing. IT WAS SO GOOD

IMG_7372

they made marshall a bib. he DOES love tacos. it’s true!

IMG_7377

i ordered the chicken quesadilla for my entree. i actually got this when i went there two years ago and remembered loving it.. so i got it again. repeat offender here, folks! it was just as good the second time.

IMG_7381

group shot!

IMG_7387

monkey shot!

IMG_7388

after eating, dana & sim did some shopping. marshall and i weren’t into it, so we paid $10 to hold more monkeys. i mean, why not?

IMG_7401IMG_7402IMG_7415

think penny and randy would be jealous of these two?!

IMG_7409IMG_7411

i want a monkey.

we went back to the resort and ate lots of free ice cream. we met up with the rest of te group.. they were eating ice cream already.IMG_7429IMG_7423

this is what we did every night. who needs dancing and night clubs when there is unlimited free ice cream?

P.S.—one of my bosses is on the right. just to give you an idea of what i deal with on a daily basis.

IMG_7426IMG_7425

at least i get to go home to get away from him. his poor wife. (KIDDING. i am sure they are reading this right now!)

well.. there you have it. another day in paradise. hope you enjoyed! until next time.

Qs~

Heather February 8, 2011 at 4:49 pm

oh man, i lost it when i read “monkey miracle” – but hey, i’d be so stoked too!!! i’m totally a repeat offender…hey, i go somewhere b/c they have something i like! no biggie :)

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate February 8, 2011 at 4:52 pm

I prefer sweet! And peanut butter ;)

Rose February 8, 2011 at 4:52 pm

Once I find what I like, that’s all I order. I can’t help it.

And I’m definitely a savory person for breakfast. I never even have to look at a menu when we go out to breakfast. Two eggs over hard with extra crispy bacon, hash browns, and dry wheat toast. Every time.

Blog is the New Black February 8, 2011 at 5:00 pm

OMG, I think that’s a riot that he carried a ‘nanner around! And that he actually saw a monkey and the monkey took it! Great little story.

Krista February 8, 2011 at 5:00 pm

bahahaha!! The face on that monkey eating a banana is too funny! I could have looked at all 45 photos of him/her. =)

Mary (A Merry Life) February 8, 2011 at 5:01 pm

So many monkey photos!!

1. when you go to a restaurant you love, are you a repeat offender or do you order different dishes? I have the problem of always ordering the same thing once I like something. Sometimes I’ll order something new to break it up but at restaurants I tend to stick with my favs.

2. breakfast foods: do you prefer sweet or savory? I like both and switch it up all the time.

cbrady3 February 8, 2011 at 5:10 pm

That’s so cool that the monkey ate the banana from you!

At restaurants I stick to something I know I like. And for breakfast I am a sweet girl – oatmeal with fruit, yogurt bowls, or pancakes are best!

Maren February 8, 2011 at 5:13 pm

Marshall looks like a kid in a candy store in the picture with the monkey on his head!! :)

Momma B February 8, 2011 at 5:17 pm

Fun re-cap – not sure I could be a monkey sitter too :) but they are very, very cute!!!

Repeat offender…..who me?!?!?

I’m equally divided on sweet and savory – love em both!

Looks like an incredible time!! xoxo

julie February 8, 2011 at 5:17 pm

hahahhahahah LOVE marsh’s banana pockets :)

Allison @ Runs A Latte February 8, 2011 at 5:17 pm

So glad that the monkey took the banana – wouldn’t have sounded nearly as cool if you just told us he carried around a banana for a monkey that you never saw. Oh, and I know how you feel about the toaster. That was the toaster I had in my dorm all 4 years of college. Needless to say, my dorm was known for having the most fire alarms!

melissadishes February 8, 2011 at 5:18 pm

Im totally a repeat offender. I do try new things occasionally, but sometimes I can’t break away from things I love.

At National chain places, most of which I don’t usually stick with the same thing, but then again, I don’t LOVE anything they have

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) February 8, 2011 at 5:19 pm

monkeys!!! how cute!!!! when i was in costa rica for a month in the jungle, i came into contact with so many monkeys! some of them werent exactly friendly (they would throw sh*t at our huts if they were mad at us for not feeding them!) but they were so entertaining!

i love all these pics!

and your couples massage…sounds heavenly!!!!! i love facial massages, too. I am such a massage junkie!

marisa February 8, 2011 at 5:25 pm

I have never seen grapefruit cut up like that. Your recap is making me want a vacation! And I LOVE all of the monkey pictures… reminds me of Gibraltar!

members1sttest February 8, 2011 at 5:31 pm

Haha “Marshall put a banana in his pocket and then we saw a monkey.” Best thing I’ve heard all day! :)

dana @ my little celebration February 8, 2011 at 5:32 pm

breakfast foods: ALWAYS sweet : ) Gotta get that sugar rush started early.

Paige is Running Around Normal February 8, 2011 at 5:43 pm

Sick of vicariously being on vacation in playa del carmen?! Nevahhh ;)
LOL @ Marshall’s banana in his pocket – and classic that the monkey actually ate it!! Love that :D

And I’m more of a sweet b-fast girl.

Amanda February 8, 2011 at 5:47 pm

You two are too cute with the monkeys! That is hilarious and so cute that he ate the banana and the peel. Love it!

Katie February 8, 2011 at 5:52 pm

see Marshall carrying the banana in his pocket ( lol ! ) came in handy! So cool you guys got to feed the cutest little monkey ever!!! I would of taken him and stowed him away in my hotel room and brought him back with me! hehehe!!

I love your hat, and the fact that you look so beautiful in it, makes it even better ; )

I am loving these re-caps!!!!!

Love u! xo

Julia February 8, 2011 at 9:51 pm

Me too please :)

purplebirdblog February 8, 2011 at 6:15 pm

I wish you lived closer so I could do a practice massage on you… we massage the face too! And the abs… which is EXCELLENT for digestion! :)

janetha February 8, 2011 at 7:01 pm

i ihave always wanted an ab massage! my friend had her masseuse do it in jamaica and said it was the best ever!

lindsay February 8, 2011 at 6:17 pm

you two are such monkeys, I love it! Nice spread of breakfast! Dang. I love eggs for breakfast, or oatmeal, really anything. I just love it!

thatrunnerchick February 8, 2011 at 6:36 pm

I cant stop looking at those tiny monkey pictures–they are SO CUTE!

Katie February 8, 2011 at 6:59 pm

Haha, I love the pictures of those monkeys! Especially the black one in the tree…he made me smiley.

I’m a repeat offender at restaurants I love…I have a hard time branching out when I find something I really like.

And I usually like sweet breakfasts…well sweet food in general. :-)

Sara February 8, 2011 at 7:01 pm

That monkey was awesome!!

I’m a BIG TIME repeat offender. But why mess with a good thing? ;)

Nicole C February 8, 2011 at 7:10 pm

The cheap mexican joint we always go to is called Chapalas. I don’t even have to order, they know what i want. It’s like cheers, but with chips and salsa.

I’m going to go with savory in the breakfast department.

BroccoliHut February 8, 2011 at 7:22 pm

Aah! All those monkey pics made me smile:)
1. I am totally a repeat offender, although I am trying to change that. It’s hard though when there are only a handful of veg items on the menu!
2. I normally like sweet breakfasts, but I’ve really been grooving on savory oats lately…

Sarah February 8, 2011 at 7:37 pm

i am a HORRIBLE repeat offender! if i find something i like, i stick with it. :)

Laura February 8, 2011 at 8:58 pm

A monkey miracle, indeed! When I was little I wanted a pet monkey so bad, haha. :)

It looks like you all had so much fun!

Erica D February 8, 2011 at 9:22 pm

Mexico looks amazing. I’m so jealous!

When I go to a favorite restaurant, I TRY to try something new; however, since becoming vegetarian, I find that my options are limited already!

And breakfast? Sweet, always sweet :)

Julia February 8, 2011 at 9:52 pm

What fun! I love the monkeys and of course your humor!
Hope it isn’t too boring be back in the states!

mmmstories February 8, 2011 at 10:07 pm

All those monkeys!! Sooo cute!!

Breakfast is my fav meal probably because it’s a nice combination of both sweet and savory. Eggs, pancakes, yogurt, granola, oatmeal, fruit all have aspects of both….and now I officially can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow.

Paije February 9, 2011 at 2:26 am

Bahaha it totally took me a couple days to realize that all I wanted was oatmeal and yog for breakfast too! Your buffet has waaay more options though!
Those monkeys are adorable! You and Marshall take the funnest photos :D

MelissaNibbles February 9, 2011 at 2:51 am

The monkey pictures are hilarious! Thanks for sharing!

Cathy K February 9, 2011 at 4:26 am

thanks for sharing the recap of your day! monkeys were definitely the theme of the day!
i’m a repeat offender and a sweets-for-breakfast person.
can’t wait to see day four!!!

Errign February 9, 2011 at 5:21 am

I am total repeat offender, but I like to switch it up too!
And for b-fast, I can go either way(twss), but I prefer sweet!

withasideofhope February 9, 2011 at 5:45 am

I am usually a repeat offender. If I know I like something, I will usually always stick with that. :) Love the monkey pictures!

Kristin (Cook, Bake, Nibble) February 9, 2011 at 6:39 am

You are killing me with the monkey pictures! SO cute!!

And that breakfast bar looks amazing! I am definitely a sweet breakfast girl.

As for restaurants… it depends! Some restaurants I ALWAYS get the same dish, and some I like to try new things!

xo

brandi February 9, 2011 at 7:20 am

all these pictures are really making me wish winter would hurry up and be over :)

Freckled Foodie February 9, 2011 at 7:47 am

GUILTYYYYY. I’m a total repeat offender.

LOVE the pictures! that yogurt bowl looks AWESOME!

XO.

balancejoyanddelicias February 9, 2011 at 7:55 am

I love eating at the buffet for breakfast! So many options!!! :D
I’d definitely prefer savory, any time of the day! :)

Andrea February 9, 2011 at 8:24 am

I love Carlos and charlies, I always order their chicken tacos. What resort did you guys stay at?

Andrea February 9, 2011 at 8:36 am

I found your hotel name.

janetha February 9, 2011 at 9:10 am

haha doh! Marshall got the chicken tacos at C&C, he loved them!

janetha February 9, 2011 at 9:10 am

Iberostar Tucan

Kate February 9, 2011 at 9:10 am

For the most part, I’m a repeat offender at restaurants. If I find something I love, I eat it a few more times before branching out.

Breakfast – definitely savory. I LOVE eggs with peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Too much sweet at breakfast makes me feel icky.

Lauren @ neepsandtaters February 9, 2011 at 9:18 am

I am definitely a repeat offender. Especially when it comes to Thai food. Yummm.

As for breakfast, I usually prefer something savory. I have an omelette with whole wheat toast almost every day. If we are ever out of eggs, then I usually have baked oatmeal. But that is the ONLY thing that I would really eat for breakfast. Sweet cold breakfasts usually aren’t my thing.

Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices February 9, 2011 at 9:20 am

That is SOOOOOO cool about the monkey! Glad the ‘carrying a banana around in his pocket’ worked out :D
& your boss seems like a pretty cool guy to work for! It’s really cool that you all got to go on this tri!

todayilovemylife February 9, 2011 at 9:32 am

I am copying your vacation mmmkay? xoxo

Rachel February 9, 2011 at 9:33 am

The monkey pics are AMAZING. More monkey pics!!!!

I try to order different things at restaurants, but have been known to be a repeat offender from time to time.

I like a sweet breakfast, but when there is a buffet involved, I go for it all!! ;)

enjoyingthechaos February 9, 2011 at 9:53 am

I am loving your Mexico pics…

I am a total repeat offender..if I find something I like I stick with it..if I choose something different I usually end up regretting not sticking to ol faithful.

for breakfast…it usually depends on the mood I am in when I wake up.

Michelle February 9, 2011 at 10:15 am

I would take a free ice cream bar over a dance club any day of the week! It’s so nice that your company sponsors this annual trip. So far, it looks like you had a great time.

I’m definitely a repeat offender. After all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

And sweet breakfast all the way. I’ll take any excuse to eat something sweet :-)

Caree @ Fit-Mama February 9, 2011 at 10:17 am

Wow, all those foods look amazing!!

I am definitely a repeat offender..but there are times I am feeling brave and will try something different.

I totally LOVE a sweet breakfast!
