you know, mondays usually are not that bad in my book. i am not someone who loathes mondays or grumbles every time one comes around. but there is, every once in awhile, a monday that makes me ornery. today was one of those mondays.
it is safe to say i am a happy person. optimistic and smiling 90% of the time.. so i am not about to type up a downer post! i am just going to tell you about my day and then go relax :)
i started the day the same way every monday starts.. at the original pancake house for my sales meeting.
meal 1: oatmeal & eggbeaters @ 8:30 AM
swimming in a pool of sugar free syrup and dusted with ridiculous amounts of cinnamon. i wouldn’t have it any other way.
eggbeaters are boring. protein packed, for sure, but boring.
work work work, drama drama drama.
meal 2: salad @ 12:00 noon
sorta boring:
- romaine
- one hard boiled egg
- 2 oz columbus low sodium herbed turkey breast
- sprouts
- bell peppers
- cucumbers
- dressing (1 TB sabra hummus+1 TB beaver hot & sweet mustard + water to thin)
work, work, work. drama, drama.
drank a kombucha. (original flavor)
randy was at the vet all day. he had to get his teeth cleaned. the vet called me a few times letting me know more things randy needed done.. and the tab kept getting larger and larger.
stressful.
meal 3: luna bar @ 3 PM.
favorite flavor.
i was on my way to the vet, where i met marshall & penny.. penny had to get her shots today, too.
the tab got larger and larger.
stressful.
they weighed my little big girl. 29 pounds. they said she could lose a few pounds.. so now penny is starting body for life.
i have a sweet story.
penelope and randy are never apart. they go everywhere and do everything together.
today, randy had to go to the vet to get his teeth cleaned, like i mentioned before, and penny was left alone all day long. well, for about six hours.
it was the end of the world.
she was SAD. she was pouting in the vet’s office while we waited:
she waited patiently for her brother to come back and hang out with her. but she was sad. and a little scared. she was shaking.
“was that randy’s collar shaking i heard in the hallway, mom?”
no.. sorry penny. it was just the doctor. sorry, it is time to get your shots.
“SHOTS?!”
she sure is cute when she is nervous.
see her little tail between her legs? poor bean.
she was very good for the doctor! she didn’t even cry :) but she still missed randy.
“mom..WHERE IS RANDY?”
marshall left the room.. to go get randy.
penny waited at the door, hoping for the best.
“randy better be coming in here soon.”
she was serious.
“YAY! randy dog!”
it was SO funny how penny perked up completely once randy was in the room. i mean, with a face like this, who wouldn’t perk up?!
“YAY! treats!”
clean teeth and all :)
let’s not talk about the fact that the vet bill was almost $800 today, okay? okay.
after the vet appointment, we went over to the house to try to get a video of the “before” to show you guys and to have for ourselves.. well~ we were foiled.. my brother was already working on laying the tile and we couldn’t walk through the house!
shucks.
that was the second time we were foiled. my mom and i tried to do this last night but my camera card was full and i stepped on a nail and i was bleeding and it just was not in the cards.
so maybe you’ll see a video of the house someday.. just not today. or tomorrow. and probably not the next day.
i went to the gym.
cardio day.
i did four tens.
- 10 min elliptical intervals @ level 10 resistance ranging from 7 MPH-9 MPH
- 10 min treadmill intervals on 1 degree incline ranging from 6 MPH-8 MPH
- 10 min ab work.. ten different moves, one minute each
- 10 min stair mill at level 7
got a nice little calorie burn in 40 minutes.. 335 to be exact. sorry to not type the details of my workout. i don’t have it in me tonight. but i will say this: naomi taught me that i should always have a little bit of an incline on the treadmill to better simulate outdoor running. so from now on, i will at least have the treadmill at a 1.0 incline. thanks for the tip, sweet pea!
one GREAT thing about today??
i came home to ALLIEBARS!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU, ALLIE! i obviously ate 1/2 of one immediately. this girl makes the best granola bars ever. mark my words. she’s gonna be famous for these some day :)
meal 4: tuna sandwich + veggies @ 7:00 PM
two slices of multigrain bread from sunflower market, one packet of albacore tuna (100 cals/20g protein) a squirt of ff mayo and a squirt of dijon mustard. and a diced pickle. yum.
i needed veggies in my life.
nothing special. just some frozen veggies steamed and salted.
and now i am nibbling on the other half of my alliebar while i read real simple magazine and blog.
mmm.
so, yeah. this post has been pretty unenthusiastic.
i haven’t eaten anything exciting and my appetite is a little absent due to stressed-out mode. i guess it makes for some boring blogging, but i think we all have those days!
home renovations. wedding planning. combining bank accounts/budgeting with future husband. work crap. vet bills. life can be stressful. and expensive. i just have to remember to breathe. and relax.
a few things..
- my google reader is up over 400. and i am not going to read blogs tonight. love you guys, but i just need to disconnect. i will probably be MIA for a bit on the old reading home front.
- the jazz better win tonight.
- i love my dogs so much and would spend any amount of money on them. it is just that today’s tab was bad timing. wanted to clarify that.
- i think i’ll bake some protein banana cake tonight and try to perfect the recipe to share with you guys.
- i have some fun reader photos to share, but that will have to wait for another day.. i didn’t forget you guys!
- i will probably have to eat another alliebar tonight.
- tomorrow is a very exciting day/post for the blog.. so check back! i am sure i will be back to my normal self :)
Qs:
1. how is your appetite affected when you are stressed out? it’s strange.. usually i over-eat when stressed. over-eat on carbs.. mainly cereal and bread. unless it is a stress that makes me sick to my stomach (read: money issues) then i lose my appetite completely. but i eat anyway, because i know i should :)
2. today was national garlic day! what is your favorite way to incorporate garlic into your meals? i love anything and everything garlic! but i think a nice thick piece of garlic cheese bread cannot be beat. keeps those vampires away, right?

girrrl the way you felt about your pups is the way i felt about my car. ridic and not to mention our dog is on like 40,000 meds for epilepsy and we have to start considering dog insurance but deej reminds me on the daily that money is just money and there will always be ways to make it and expenses are just a part of life. so even though i complain that i’m poor and could have gone to europe with the cost of my car she’s a smart lady :)
feel better boo
Yowza! That is a lot of blogs in your reader! I love the love you give out, but understand needing to unplug. Take some you time. :)
And I always run at a slight incline too. It is easier on my knees.
Stress – just like you. Makes me eat more, unless it is something I am SO stressed about I feel nauseous.
I loved all of the pictures of your pups!!!! :) Made me smile, so thank you! The little story was too cute as well. Hope you are having a better day today!
My favorite way to eat garlic, which I JUST did, would be in hummus :) or…pretty much ANYTHING…I feel as though there can NEVER be enough garlic added in recipes.
I was about to say that I want your adorable doggies, but after seeing the vet bill maybe not so much haha.
holy balls. i love your dogs! i want a bassett so badly, Randy ALMOST fills my void. love, love, LOVE.
OMG $800?
Aside from teeth cleaning and shots, what the heck did you have done!? You got taken for a ride lady!
For my two girls shots, it’s a $100 per dog. That includes the vet visit and heartworm test. Plus $50 in heart worm chews. I use the same clinic all the rescues use. I save nearly $400 by using that clinic! I’m sure your city has to have one. Oh and teeth cleaning starts at $75. Depends on the size of the dog. My 70 lb Collie would be $110.
Seriously though, shot around for vet clinics! Most WAY overcharge. Same with my equine vets. I started buying shots directly from the vets and giving them myself after realizing the 75% markup was ridick!
STOP IT – that pic of Penny waiting by the door is killing me. I’m a little emotional anyway, but srsly if the blogs keep making me cry I’m staying away too!
Sorry to hear about your blah day :( Your pups are freaking ADORABLE though, definitely worth the $800. Better to have them then twenty new pairs of shoes!
I get super hungry when I’m stressed out. Most people are the opposite, but a busy mind makes me just as hungry as a busy body.
Hope today is better for you love!!
Good for you for unplugging! And being a good dog mommy. What a face!
Let’s see when I am stressed (or any other emotion, really) I get snacky but I don’t know if it’s true hunger or straight up emotional eating. Either way, no bueno. I know I am going to have to watch it when I’m in grad school or I’ll gain the “grad school 15”!
I used to do the “4 tens” cardio all the time, thanks for the reminder!
How freaking adorable are your dogs? I wish Andy would let me get a puppy! He wants to wait till we get a bigger place.
Hope Tuesday is a better day for you!
I love the name Penny – so cute! Our dogs are the same way, they are so co-dependent. And $800! Ouch!
Awh, I love your dog story… too cute!!!!
Sorry to hear that you had a rather lame day. That happens to the best of us.
Your dogs are so adorable though. I love all those photos of Penny!
When stressed, I have a heard time eating… My stomach gets all upset and nothing looks appetizing…
I LOVE LOVE LOVE garlic… I put it in everything. Stir frys, chili, salad dressings, omlettes, roasted and then spread on toasted bread, in salsa… I used to make this chicken recipe from cooking light called ‘chicken with 40 cloves of garlic’ SO GOOD! Note to self: must make again!!
PS Your tuna salad looks so good! …making me hungry!
Aw, poor Penny! She does look so sad in those pictures! Glad she was reunited with Randy and was happy again! They are the cutest dogs ever!
Sorry about all the stress! It sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate! Definitely just try and relax and take a breather! Hope you feel better soon!
Mmmmm, garlic! Yes, garlic bread with cheese is the best thing ever! I love garlic! It’s pretty much good with everything! Haha!
That bowl of oats looks great!
What a great idea with the hummus and honey mustard dressing. I’m always looking for a good natural home-made dressing that isn’t olive oil and vinegar. Plus I love anything with hummus and mustard so this will be a winner with me for sure! Your dogs are absolutely adorable! Makes me want one so bad, but that vet bill makes me think twice! :-)
Aw, that’s so sweet about your pups being friends! Um, pretty sure your egg beaters needed . . . Tabasco! :D
What an adorable puppy! Thanks so much for the encouraging words on my blog, it meant a lot =)
Loving the sound of that hummus-mustard dressing. Might have to try that soon!
Thank you SO MUCH for all the pooch photos. Dog pictures always brighten my day:)
Oh bless your little heart!! You ARE about 99% optimistic, that is just one of the many things I love about you!! What a day you had – hey I spy some really cute toes in those photos of the pups! Glad I could be at their appt today, even gladder how much they love each other, too sweet! (whoa is “gladder” a word – well it rhymes with bladder and ladder so–yeah I gues it is haha)
I LOVE the photos of those darling pups and your commentary, too cute!
I totally DO NOT eat when stressed – ugh I hate that feeling.
xoxo
mom
love, love, love your puppies. hate, hate, hate vet bills. they are the WORST & they add up SO quick!
might want to swing by my blog if you’re interested in a giveaway. :)
Love the new blog look! :) Very cute.
I’ve actually been reading your blog like crazy the last few days. All the posts I skipped/missed/before I started reading. Your way of eating is really cool and I’m totally inspired to copy it lately. So… yeah. ;)
1. how is your appetite affected when you are stressed out? carbs. carbs! I eat them. Then I eat more. It just happens.
2. today was national garlic day! what is your favorite way to incorporate garlic into your meals? I love garlic. I use garlic in a ton of things I make. I use it almost every day, now that I think about it.
Oh, Penny shaking- noo! How cute when reunited- the photo is all fuzzy! :-P
I looked and looked but couldn’t find Allie’s bar recipe.
And yes, please on the perfected protein banana bread- I haven’t had time but I’m hellbent on finding a perfect recipe.
Muah.
Stupid work. Like we don’t have enough junk to worry about right? BAH! Just shake it off girl, it’s all you can do. :)
$800??? YOWSA. Gotta love our fur babies though. Those expensive little crazy devils!
When I stress I also reach for carbs. No type in particular. Anything will do. Accompanied by wine of course. (a whole bottle. shhhhhh…..)
My giveaway would include Eating Clean magazine, almond butter, & clif mojo trail mix bars!
I have learned many “tricks” from your blog…you were the first way I learned to make protein oats :)
Hey there! I just found your blog and I’m so excited. I can’t wait to make PB and Jelly oatmeal for breakfast. Your story (as much as I’ve read so far) is fantastic and inspiring. It’s also nice to read the blog of another Utahn (I live in Murry). Also, your dogs are both adorable, but Penelope has the sweetest face in the word. Swoon. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself, say hi, and thank you for all of the inspiring posts!
