oh, hey.. it’s august! that snuck up on me.
i have been battling laryngitis and a nasty cold for about ten days now. i am usually somewhat MIA from the blog, but that sickness has made me even more MIA! it has kicked my butt!
i am finally beginning to feel better, and my voice is slowly coming back. not a ton has been happening with me, since i have been trying to rest as much as possible.. but i have still had to go to work and be a mom, which is probably why it’s taking me longer than usual to get better!
anyway, since i have no clue where i left off and no clue where to pick back up.. i decided to share some recent photos from my phone, because that’s always fun.
how about i start with today and then go backwards? mmmk.
today was a big day! we had family photos taken of us three and also fox’s 1 year photos. can’t believe his birthday is in just over two weeks! what! we did a cake smash at the end of the photo sesh.

so much fun!

my friends natalie and emily have a bakery, bucktown bakery, and supplied the adorable cake for the shoot. i told them i knew nothing about cake smashes and had no creative ideas, so they did all the work. i love how it turned out! i am going to have them do the treats for his birthday party later this month.

i have been eating out a BUNCH lately. not awesome for my wallet, but i am lazy and love food cooked for me.. so.. yeah.
on sunday, jessica and i went to rye for brunch. i had a soft egg scramble with feta, tomato, and spinach. it’s official: soft egg scrambles are the way to go! i love the texture of the barely undercooked eggs.

last saturday, marshall and i tried a new-to-us taco shop, taco taco. love the name. it’s on 500 south, just above state in SLC.

we split chips and guac, and i had two tacos. one was al pastor, the other was chicken.

this was a really tasty, inexpensive meal and it was very authentic! we will be back!
other stuff that has been going on…
we celebrated my dad’s 64th birthday! he is a hard man to shop for, he always buys whatever he wants himself and leaves nothing for the rest of us to get him. but marshall and i picked him out this hat at the stockist.. i think he likes it!

fox and i went on a short (as in, 5 minutes short) hike with some of my family last week. at the end of the ever-so-short jaunt was a pretty waterfall!

and we also hit up the lake with some friends. fox was not the biggest fan of the lake water (burrrr!) but it was a good time, nonetheless.

it has been ages, ages, ages since i worked out. but the last time i did go to the gym, i utilized these new weighted balls my gym has. i LOVED using this thing!

so, medicine balls i have used in the past are more of the material like a basketball. these medicine balls are much larger, and softer. anyway, i did jump squats holding the ball, combined with a wall ball (throwing the ball up against the wall).. made for some heavy breathing and sore glutes. i think i need to buy one of these to have at home!
hopefully i can get back to working out once i feel 100%. i plan to stop breastfeeding here in the next little while, so i know that will require me to step up the workouts quite a bit. right now i have had it easy, because breastfeeding has helped keep my weight in check while i still eat anything and everything. i have a feeling that once i stop, i could quickly gain a bunch of weight. that sounds super fun.
speaking of breastfeeding, i still owe you guys a post about it! it’s so second nature now.. i don’t even know where to begin with writing about it. but i know i want to share my experience with it and have it written down.. so i will have to get to that soon. i can’t believe i have been nursing for nearly a year. i am officially done pumping while at work, i have enough in the freezer to last until fox turns one (and then he can have cow’s milk), so i had a silent celebration with that last pump session. definitely won’t be missing that ONE BIT!
there is a lot to look forward to this month! obviously fox’s birthday is the #1 exciting event. we are also having a yard sale, have my nephew’s birthday, penny’s birthday, hopefully another trip or two to the lake, i am going to try to get out wakeboarding, and the thought of camping has crossed my mind a time or two. winter will be here before we know it, so i want to do as many outdoor activities as i can before that happens!
well, enough rambling from me. thanks for checking in here on the ol’ dusty blog. hopefully i will find a way to be consistent with my posts again. it’s a work in progress!
Qs~
1. what are some things you are looking forward to this month?

What a treat today was! My how this past year has flown by….crazy isn’t it?!?
I’m looking forward to Fox’s big birthday bash and spending more time soaking up the sunshine!!!
I really just like sitting in the sun, or boating, or strolling, or shopping at an outdoor market…..love being outside!!
And I love you, Marshall and my Fox man xoxoxo!!!
Love you! We need to go wakeboarding!
Hope you feel better! Happy birthday to both the little man and your dad! That cake looks so cute. And that guac? Let’s discuss. I love both swimming and running outside when it’s warm!
Thanks, love! xoxox
Fox is adorable! Those cake smash pictures are the cutest! My little guy is only weeks behind Fox (how are they getting so BIG?), but I don’t think he’ll get any cake IN his mouth. He has more interest in feeding it to the dog and throwing it on the ground. :P
Haha oh man, the throwing is no joke! Can’t believe they are almost 1.. it is so crazy. xoxo
Sorry to hear that you have been so sick. I sure miss your posts. Getting plenty of rest is so important. Glad that your finally feeling better. I will be celebrating my son’s 2nd birthday on Aug 22 and you will be celebrating Fox’s a day before. How exciting. It sure is crazy how fast time goes by. Each day gets better with new milestones =0)
Looking forward to reading all about Fox’s 1st Birthday. Happy First Year of Life little man!
Thank you! Oh, man, crazy how fast it goes. Happy early bday to your guy! xoxoxo
Did Fox get his first hair cut? He looks so cute and very grown-up! Do you ever get nervous with him sitting on concrete? I always do… but that’s probably because my daughter is 6-months and still learning to sit on her own. I guess when they’re 1 and mobile you don’t worry about that anymore :)
No hair cut yet, I just tamed it haha.. it gets crazy in the morning, but if I comb it at night, it will generally stay side-swooped like that. So, yeah, you are right.. once they get more mobile and whatnot, you worry less! When he first started sitting up (at 6 months) I was very particular about where he could sit! I bet you are having such fun with your daughter! xoxo
