tuesday tweets.

by Janetha on December 6, 2011

in meals,moves

my day.. through twitter. you can follow me here!

image

i had to pee at 4 AM. randy and penny were hogging the bed. well, marshall too, but mostly R & P. i was tossing and turning, trying to fall back asleep. after a little over an hour, i just got up.

and then something crazy happened.

image

someone was proud.

image

i miss that someone.

image

yes, that’s right. i went to the gym.. arrived at 5:35 AM! it was actually pretty freaking amazing because it was dead. i was able to get my whole workout done without waiting for any equipment. even without a wait, my workout took AN HOUR AND THIRTY FIVE MINUTES. um, yeah. it was day 58 of the livefit trainer: back, arms, abs, and sprints. whew.

at least there were supporting tweeters!

image

image

i was really proud of myself for working out this morning. i really wish i had that kind of willpower EVERY morning. it’s so nice to just have it DONE.

oh, and during my sprints on the treadmill.. this happened:

image

the link is to this song… mable by goldfinger. i miss mable. <3 (fyi, mable was my yellow lab that was hit by a car in 2007.)

i went home from the gym and showered.. made coffee.. got ready.. made my lunch. there was one sleeve harmed in the making of said lunch.

image

yes. ew.

before leaving the house, i even made my bed! and these two took full advantage…

image

of course, i had to tweet (and instagram) about it.

image

when i got to work, i made my breakfast:

IMG_8165

i know. so glamorous. it was 4 egg whites with ketchup and 1/3 cup of oatmeal with cinnamon and blueberry flax. don’t judge a book by its cover breakfast by its photo.

guess what today was?!

image

i got some replies…

image

the microwave.. what will it not do? oh, that’s right.. your laundry.

the day went on.. i did lots of work. LOTS of accounting. grumble.. year end is coming!!

lunch came and i ate the tuna that had previously juiced on my sleeve. that sounds so wrong.

IMG_8168

lunch was a salad made with spinach, lettuce, cucumber slices, yellow bell pepper slices, shredded carrots, tuna mixed with mustard & greek yogurt.. all topped with raspberry vinaigrette.

while i was eating my lunch, i checked out this week’s edition of tuesday trainer!

image

what are you waiting for? go check it out. you can see me do a couple of upper body moves (with the pups) along with a bunch of bodacious babes playing will balls.

after work i went to whole foods for a few things…

image

and.. guess what i got?

IMG_8181

that’s right.. less than what was on my list.

don’t pat me on the back just yet. i decided to run into costco for the clementines.. and this is what i came out with:

IMG_8187\

CRAP. i cannot, for the life of me, get out of costco without spending $100. today i got the clementines.. and pom juice, naked blue machine, tuna, chicken broth, fage greek yogurt (they stopped carrying chobani! ugh), cinnamon capsules, and four contigo mugs. one is for the dedicated december winner.. but i stocked up because costco won’t be carrying that specific bottle anymore. it was now or never!

hmm.

obviously we made pizza for dinner! since it’s too damn cold to grill (it’s like 12 degrees outside, guys) we used our pizza stone. almost as good as grilled pizza!

IMG_8188

our pizza had marinara sauce, mozzarella, goat cheese, artichoke hearts, prosciutto and arugula—all atop a multigrain crust. we ate the pizza alongside my mom’s homemade broccoli cheese soup.

SO good. the melted goat cheese was my favorite part.. and i dipped the crusts into the soup. mmmm.

we went to get our christmas tree tonight! finally! i’ve been waiting days for this.

earlier today, i took a poll.

image

everyone weighed in…

image

i think lindsay’s answer was my fave.

we went with…

image

REAL. every year. love that pine smell. although marshall said next year he wants to get a fake one because he doesn’t like to support killing trees. he’s probably right.

well, we are off to take the pups to the park in the freezing temps!

until next time…

Qs~

1. what’s the last thing you used your microwave for?

2. do you tweet?

xo. janetha g.

Becky @ TheBexFactor.com December 6, 2011 at 10:13 pm

I’m a Twitter addict. My work is usually pretty slow during the week and I am on Twitter ALOT. I’m glad my boss isn’t, or she wouldn’t be too happy with me.

Alice December 6, 2011 at 10:16 pm

i tweet with you! but i’m new though :)

Cheri Z December 6, 2011 at 10:17 pm

The last thing I used the microwave for was a “bed buddy” – a fabric pouch filled with wheat berries. Great for sore muscles (such as my shoulder today).

I’m with Marshall on the tree. That’s why we’ve had a fake for years and years. I love the smell though … and Yankee candles just aren’t the same. =(

Gotta tell ya, I love how much you love your pups. They’re cuties for sure!

Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn December 6, 2011 at 10:32 pm

Ahahhaha. Twitter posts are my FAVORITE.

Erica December 7, 2011 at 1:28 am

Whoop! Thats my fav time to teach or gym it!!! It does feel awesome to have it done. Costco is a total money hole- i always want to buy 5 extra things. Fav thing to microwave? Potatoes or squash

Magda December 7, 2011 at 2:25 am

Wow, it’s awesome that you made it to the gym :)I’d like to try it to, because I’d really like to be done with it as soon as possible and have all afternoon/evening free :) I have a question for you though. Do you eat something before the morning workout? For me it would be ~4h between getting up and getting to work where I could have breakfast. It seems awfully long, especially as I basically wake up hungry and usually make it to the kitchen before I open my eyes ;) On the other hand, I think I would feel bad if I had a full breakfast and worked out soon after it… I’m curious how you handle it.

Laura December 7, 2011 at 3:58 am

I mostly microwave hot chocolate and oats, and I love to tweet! @lcrumpy

Danielle @ D. Sells Seashells December 7, 2011 at 4:35 am

I do tweet! @dsellsseashells

I remember the first time I ever did the whole morning gym thing – it was under similar circumstances as your first visit (I’d woken up early, couldn’t fall back asleep and had nothing better to do). Two and a half years later, I haven’t been to the gym after work since. LOVE it!

Stephanie December 7, 2011 at 4:50 am

I read somewhere that real trees are actually better for the environment. The resources used up to make plastic trees – and the fact that they’ll stay in the landfills forever – probably mean that plastic trees kill more real trees. (I kind of made that last bit up. I mean…it MIGHT be true, but I don’t know for sure. Still, you could probably work on it a bit if you want to convince Marshall to stick with real trees.)

Lauren December 7, 2011 at 4:58 am

So what did you think of the morning workouts? Life changing right? LoL. Maybe not but what is life changing is that pizza! Good God it looks incredible.

chelsey @ clean eating chelsey December 7, 2011 at 5:17 am

Asking me if I tweet is like asking me if I want uggs and wunder unders for Christmas (I do.).

I’m a fake tree kind of girl. Since I’m always the one to do the decorating, I get to choose. Or at least that’s my rule.

Heather (Heather's Dish) December 7, 2011 at 5:59 am

i used my microwave a few seconds ago to warm up a piece of bread i pulled out of the fridge! i love that thing :)

you know i tweet, but i don’t get to as often as i’d like – work gets in the way!

Hope @ With A Side Of Hope December 7, 2011 at 6:10 am

The last thing I used the microwave for was my lunch yesterday at work.

I do tweet but not nearly enough. I should tweet more :)

Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon December 7, 2011 at 6:28 am

To heat up my frozen cauliflower!

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List December 7, 2011 at 6:36 am

i think this post proves the point I’m trying to make in MY post today…I need to take a teeny break from Twitter..lol
i love you today.

Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli December 7, 2011 at 6:49 am

I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at the Costco haul…I did the EXACT same thing at Sam’s Club yesterday! I went in for Greek yogurt and body wash and came out with those, clementines, cheese (can’t resist), mushrooms, and bread…and the only reason I stopped there was because that’s all I could carry! I always convince myself I don’t need a cart…and every time I end up with a pretty nice bicep workout by the time I get to checkout!

I don’t know which is worse: tuna “juicing” on your sleeve or “a bunch of bodacious babes playing will balls” Bahaha!

Nice job getting at AM workouit in! I used to be so good about getting up at 5am to head to the gym but after almost a month on night shifts and now the FREEZING a$$ temps outside, I just can’t seem to pry myself out from under the covers…actually, I can barely make it to work on time! I’ve overslept twice in the last 2 weeks #thankgodforforgivingcoworkers

Janetha December 12, 2011 at 11:22 am

I am laughing because I went in without a cart, and then my arms were so full that I had to go get one!

Katie December 7, 2011 at 6:49 am

I just got twitter & I’m currently loving it…besides the fact no studying or homework gets done! haha

Krissie J @ A Philly Nerd Girl December 7, 2011 at 6:52 am

I used the microwave last night to heat up the chili I made over the weekend. Good stuff. And I do tweet, probably too much during the day. @phillynerdgirl if anyone is intertested. :P

Krissie J @ A Philly Nerd Girl December 7, 2011 at 6:53 am

OR interested. My brain isn’t working so off to finish the coffee. Clearly I need it.

Claire @ Live and Love to Eat December 7, 2011 at 7:03 am

I like the tweet-style post. My family always had fresh Christmas trees, I can’t support the idea of a fake one for one second.

Lee December 7, 2011 at 7:11 am

The last thing I used my microwave for was to warm up some water for peppermint tea last night. That said, I’ve been avoiding my microwave lately because it’s possessed. If you don’t unplug it after each use, it will randomly turn itself on which probably isn’t a good thing, especially if I’m not home. We’re too lazy to buy a new one but we need to.

Emily December 7, 2011 at 7:17 am

I go to BJs and absolutely can never spend less than $100.. and I live ALONE! But this week they were out of my favorite greek yogurt ~ Fage.. and I had to get Chobani.. too funny you had the opposite!!

julie December 7, 2011 at 7:33 am

weird i was just thinking oh it’s 5am there but its 8am here. hahaha

FunnerRunner December 7, 2011 at 7:49 am

Just to ease Marshall’s mind…
“Christmas trees are a purpose-grown, natural product that is sustainable. Artificial trees…are made from petroleum – extracted from the ground – metal – extracted from the ground – and therefore are not a sustainable product because they come from non-sustainable sources,” Go Team Real Tree! sarah (sarah learns) December 7, 2011 at 7:53 am

i definitely go in twitter spurts. i’m in a dry spell right now…

we got a fake tree this year for the first time in my life. it made me sad, but we thought about it a lot (like way more that we needed too probably) and it is definitely more cost efficient to pay $80 once (our tree was on sale!) than pay $30-$50 every year. even if our tree only lasts 5 years, it’ll be worth it. plus i don’t like killing trees either. every time i see a xmas tree farm, i think about how long it takes to grow them before they’re cut down to be in someone’s house for a month…

end ramble.

have a good day! :)

Lauren December 7, 2011 at 8:01 am

The last thing I microwaved was pumpkin Mac and cheese! (from your blog entry about KFC :) ) don’t feel too bad about cutting down the Christmas tree, I’m not sure where you source yours in Utah, but in NC the trees are grown at farm in the nc mountains specifically for christmas! By purchasing a live tree you are supporting local farmers :) however, I would never begrudge someone for having a fake tree either :)

Ashley December 7, 2011 at 8:13 am

Ummm, this post is hilarious + awesome. I just finished day THREE and am sore, sore, sore and super tired! Typically I go to bed at 12-12:30 and now I can’t keep my eyes open past 11! Good for you for getting a jump on your workout. The last thing I used the microwave for was….heating chili last night. And I really had to laugh about the tuna. I don’t eat it anymore, but I make it for Chris. He had a super long day at work and didn’t get home til 11:30pm. I got up from bed and made him a tuna melt. Luckily no juice on my robe. ;)

kara December 7, 2011 at 8:30 am

love this post! i don’t tweet.. i don’t think i have enough interesting things to say all the time, haha. but seriously, i legit laughed out loud when i read “Happy National Microwave Oven Day!” where do you find these things??

Jessica @ Healthy Dairyland December 7, 2011 at 8:40 am

Well, at least you bough clementines at Costco! I hate when I go to a store for something ( cough cough Target) and leave without it but $100 of other crap!

Susan December 7, 2011 at 8:41 am

“the microwave.. what will it not do? oh, that’s right.. your laundry.”

Technically, you could put your clothes in the microwave to make them warm and get that “just out of the dryer” feeling. Just sayin!

Also, I think we need to hold a Contigo intervention.

Miss you toooooo! xoxoxo

Janetha December 7, 2011 at 10:47 am

Oh my gosh! My mom used to do that with towels before I got out of the bathtub :) <3

Allison December 7, 2011 at 8:41 am

YAY for morning workouts! I’ve been going before work @ 5:30AM the past two weeks [except for this morning, a morning off… maybe this afternoon?] and I’m loving it- tons of energy throughout the day and have the afternoons free :)

Our microwave was put to good use last night for dinner [after a few hours shopping for holiday decorations]- soup & sandwiches!

emily (a nutritionist eats) December 7, 2011 at 8:45 am

Here in LA they have a real tree program – they will deliver it to you, pick it up after christmas and then replant it so it isn’t killed. You can also get the same tree year after year if you want. :) Perfect solution!

Janetha December 7, 2011 at 10:47 am

Oh my gosh–what a cool concept!

Bridget December 7, 2011 at 8:45 am

We go with fake, but its because my mom gave us her old one and its nice and convenient. I work in transportation and know that for every tree that is cut down 3 are planted in its place. This is for several reasons, but just so you know, its really not that bad of a thing like stripping the rainforests or anything : ) Enjoy the real tree!

Janetha December 7, 2011 at 10:48 am

Thanks for that tip! I am going to tell Marshall!

TriGirl December 7, 2011 at 8:47 am

Wow! impressive morning workout! I hate that Costco stopped selling Chobani…I always leave there with at least 150% more than what I went in for :)

Maren December 7, 2011 at 8:52 am

I used the microwave for my tea and Nate’s eggs this morning. Then I thought about how I really need a tea kettle!! I’ve been drinking it a lot more lately. I love how your posts are showing your meals a lot more lately. I know it’s so time consuming, but I get all my ideas from you! ;)

Tiffany December 7, 2011 at 8:53 am

I love broccoli cheese soup! Would you mind sharing the recipe?

Janetha December 7, 2011 at 10:47 am

My mom made it on Sunday–she’s been making it my whole live and it’s so good. I will get the recipe from her and post it soon :)

Christa December 7, 2011 at 8:58 am

My family has always had a fake tree, but if you want a real tree without all the tree murder, my neighbors used to get a tree with the root ball still attached, and then plant it in their backyard once spring came around (they kept it on the deck until winter ended). It ended up being a really cool idea because they can just go in their backyard and see all of the christmas trees that they’ve had for like the past 10 years!

Janetha December 7, 2011 at 10:50 am

Wow that is a really awesome idea!

Jessica @ Stylish Stealthy and Healthy December 7, 2011 at 9:00 am

We do the fake tree + Pine-scented Yankee combo and it’s like the real thing but with less needles for your dogs to eat off the floor.
Also, true story- I totally sang on stage to that exact song with Goldfinger when I saw them in like 2000. #proudmoment

Janetha December 7, 2011 at 10:51 am

That’s rad! I miss shows from back in the day. They just aren’t the same now that I am almost 30…

Anna December 7, 2011 at 9:46 am

I use my microwave a lot – hot water for tea this morning and also cooked up my oatmeal in it. I always used to make stove top oats but have been going the quick n’ easy route lately.
I recently got on twitter after I (finally!) got a smartphone…its silly but a bit addicting! I was impressed with your early am workout tweets!! :)

Shannon December 7, 2011 at 10:04 am

I got a fake tree this year, but I do want to mention that Christmas trees come from Christmas tree farms so even though it seems like you’re killing a tree, they replace it with another one… :)

Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning December 7, 2011 at 10:10 am

I LOVE the gym in the morning- if I didn’t have to be at work 7 am, I’d do it every day, but for now only do AM weekday workouts when I’m paid to teach my 5:30 am spin class.
I joined twitter years ago, but never use it. I should…
And I know you’re loyal to Ciobani, but seriously- I like Fage WAY better. The 2% plain is my absolute favorite- and it tastes great with nothing added to it at all. Yum.

Janetha December 7, 2011 at 10:50 am

I like Fage–but I looove Chobani. It’s not a huge deal for me like it is for marshall, though. He is the one that eats the flavored ones, I eat plain.

Carly December 7, 2011 at 10:29 am

My boyfriend does fire protection and therefore won’t let me get a real tree since it is a fire hazard and he has seen the worst of the worst. Since we live in a 100 year old farm house with shotty electric…probably a good thing!

TC December 7, 2011 at 10:30 am

I microwave my oatmeal (not instant) everyday at work. Easy and cheap and delicious.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I think a real tree is the way to go. Cutting a tree down from a tree farm is different from deforesting an old growth rainforest, in the grand scheme of things. At least a real tree is compostable and can go back into the earth…a fake tree is probably made from petroleum and other chemicals and will sit in a landfill for years and years and years one day once you’re finished with it. And if you still felt guilty about cutting down a tree, you could always donate to a charity like American Forests.

Liz @ Southern Charm December 7, 2011 at 10:36 am

I love using the microwave to bake my potatoes! 5 minutes >1 hour in the stove.

Shanna, like Banana December 7, 2011 at 10:42 am

Just learned that the carbon footprint for making fake trees is worse than cutting down trees (not sure how many years that counts for), but it’s not the disparity one would think ;)

Christin@purplebirdblog December 7, 2011 at 11:01 am

I love you because you used the word bodacious AND because it was used to describe playing with balls. The end.

Christin December 7, 2011 at 11:02 am

Okay this is completely off topic, but I was shopping at Urban Outfitters last weekend, and there were owls around every corner! So I thought of you of course! :) Here’s the link to their website, already searched ‘Owl’ for ya…have fun! :)

Janetha December 7, 2011 at 11:15 am

Ooo.. thank you. Just what I need!

Carrie@shrinkingcarrie December 7, 2011 at 11:20 am

Ha! I would have tweeted you some motivation in the morning, but I was sound asleep. hehe. And yes I do tweet @shrinkingcarrie, but I mainly just have random conversations with my brother. Follow me and we can have random conversations at 5:30 in the morning.
I microwave oatmeal, multiple times a day. It’s the only thing my 1 year old will eat. She has no teeth yet. Seriously. She poops like a champ though.

Jodie December 7, 2011 at 12:27 pm

Hm…mine carries Chobani. I was just there.

katecooks December 7, 2011 at 1:37 pm

i just posted yesterday about a great article in whole living that came to the consensus that real trees leave a much smaller carbon footprint than fake ones. hurray!!

Jessy December 7, 2011 at 2:02 pm

I HATE it if I wake up because I have to pee! I try not to drink too much late in the night.

How come you only eat egg whites? Do you not like the taste of the yolk (as it’s very nutritious)?

Janetha December 7, 2011 at 3:20 pm

I love the taste of the yolks. I eat them often, but only if i am going to have over easy eggs or hard boiled eggs. If I am having scrambled eggs, I just have the whites.. each whit eis roughly 6 grams of protein and only 16 calories. When trying to hit specific macros for the program I am following, the yolk makes that a little hard.
