announcing: dedicated december!

by Janetha on December 1, 2011

in giveaway

hey guys!

i am at the hospital right now. i am in the middle of a gastric emptying study. fun, right?

oh, what? you have no idea what that is? yeah, i didn’t either.. until my GI doc ordered me to get one.  since my guts don’t do their job and refuse to move food along properly, my doctor wants to find just how severe my colon inertia is.  the gastric emptying study consists of me not eating or drinking anything all day up until the test (i haven’t had anything since last night.)

i came to the hospital at 12:30 and was admitted. then, just now, at 1 o’clock, they brought me a HUGE plate of food.

IMG_7760

oh. no. not a huge plate of food. just a piece of burnt toast, a teeny cup of water, and a pile of liquid eggs that have some sort of chemical on them so they show up in my body for all the xrays.

i got my first xray and am now sitting here for the next four hours. they will xray me at two o’clock, three o’clock, and five o’clock. thank god i have the internet, right?

before i move on to my fun announcement, i have to tell you what happened this morning!

we woke up to no power and a whole hell of a lot of wind. apparently the winds clocked in as high as 100 MPH! yeesh. not only was out power out this morning.. but our fence was completely blown over. awesome! didn’t i just talk about when it rains, it pours? yeah, well add some wind to that rainstorm, because it’s causing some serious grief. it’s actually been declared a state of emergency by the centerville mayor!

trees have been uprooted. semis have blown over on the freeway. power lines have been knocked down. schools, stores, gyms, public transit, and offices along the wasatch front are closed. it’s all over the news—it’s pretty ridiculous.

pretty gnarly, right? at least it makes for entertaining facebook updates:

my home is one of the 50,000 homes without power. BUMMER. the power is expected to be out for up to 48 hours. balls. luckily there is power here at the hospital.. and at my office (i worked earlier today.) marshall is working out of town, so i may be lugging penny & randy to my office to sleep under my desk so we don’t freeze tonight!

okay, now that the gut news and emergency situation is out of the way.. i want to tell you guys about a new challenge i have developed for december.

december is one of the (if not THE) busiest months of the year. we are all expected to attend holiday parties, shop for gifts, bake cookies (yes, that is an expectation in december, don’t fight me on it), and still manage to fit in the day-to-day things like work, taking care of our pets/kids, cooking and eating right, and exercising regularly.

it’s no surprise that something eventually falls by the wayside—and let’s be honest, it’s usually exercise. i can bet that if we took a survey and asked what month each person logged the least amount of workouts, it would be december.

that’s where my challenge comes in!  i want to stay dedicated to my livefit training program. looking at the schedule, i have 27 workouts planned in december. and yes, that means working out on christmas eve and new year’s eve.  i plan to stick to the schedule and am determined to get those workouts done.

i thought that i could use some moral support and accountability for staying dedicated this month, so i decided to design a fun exercise challenge for you all to participate in this month!

image

dedicated december!

let’s see how many workouts YOU can log this month! any workout counts.. at the gym, outside, at home, in the mountains, in the ocean (jealous if you are in the ocean in december!) it doesn’t matter what the workout is, where it’s completed, or how long it is.. all that matters is that YOU STAY ACTIVE this month.

here’s how it’ll work:

what is a challenge without prizes?! of course there are going to be prizes available to all who participate!

prize #1 will be a random drawing. every workout you log in december (meaning every comment you leave on the official page) will count as an entry! the more you work out, the better chances you have at winning!

prize #1: jamie eason’s livefit trainer supplement stack ($120 value!)
see my review here and exact details here. the powder will be chocolate. this prize will be provided by bodybuilding.com.

image

prize #2 will be awarded to the person who logs the MOST workouts in december.

prize #2: keep hot auto seal thermos & contigo duo keep cold bottle with straw.
you guys know i love my contigo products! this prize will be purchased & shipped by me. (no sponsor.)

image(colors may vary)

and for a little random fun, prize #3 will go to the person who completes the most CREATIVE workout. this will be judged by YOU GUYS with a poll at the end of the month.

prize #3: $10 gift card to amazon.com
this prize will be purchased by me (no sponsor.)

image

other details..

  • you DO NOT have to have a blog to participate. don’t be shy! just leave a comment on the dedicated december page every time you work out this month.
  • i will tally up all the workouts the first week of january.
  • winners will be announced the second week of january.
  • comments left on the official page that are NOT actual workout entries will be deleted (so the random drawing is easier.)

for you bloggers out there, i encourage you to invite your readers to join in the dedicated december fun! feel free to use the images for the challenge.

grab a button! just copy & paste the code from the box below into your post (html) or your sidebar(html widget.) clicking on it will lead to the official page.

use the official image! just copy & paste the code from the box below into your post. clicking on it will lead to the official page.

let me know if you need help with the techy part of it all.

hopefully this will serve as a great way for us to all stay dedicated to our fitness in december. additionally, it will give everyone great workout ideas! can’t wait to see how dedicated everyone is.

if you already worked out today.. what are you waiting for? go enter! now!

well.. i have two and a half more hours here at the hospital. wish me luck!

Q~

when your schedule gets crazy busy, what’s the first thing to fall by the wayside?

Leslie December 1, 2011 at 3:15 pm

You’re awesome! What a great idea to motivate us :)

And I hope all works out with the test, fence and wind! I live in So Cal and we’ve got some wild winds right now too!

Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn December 1, 2011 at 3:17 pm

yahh betch, ya! I’ll do it ;) I’m a fan slash I’ve just started workout out again on a regular basis so I’m very proud of myself. #fan

Juliette December 1, 2011 at 3:41 pm

What an awesome idea. You are so motivating Janetha – I accept your challenge.

TheHungeredOne@MovingandMunching December 1, 2011 at 3:49 pm

Sorry to hear about your GI problems… been there, got the tshirt. It’ll get better when they figure it out (hopefully). Get well soon. :) Sorry about the house. I heard some schools were closed over here today because of the wind but… I didn’t feel enough wind to warrant schools closing. lol

I decided I am going to take part in Dedicated December. I’m going to repost it on my blog. I’m sick right now, but I’ll find something to be dedicated to every day! I don’t know about entering for a giveaway (I’m always sick of scrolling through comments feeling like a spammer entering haha) but I’ll take part somehow :)

Jennie (the gf-gf) December 1, 2011 at 3:49 pm

Good luck, Janetha! I guess the good news about your hospital stay is that you have Internet access …

Honestly, my workout goal in December is to practice yoga 1x per week. I know it’s not much, but my schedules so busy! Sadly, that’s more than I’ve had time for in months.

lynn @ the actor's diet December 1, 2011 at 3:51 pm

geez i can’t believe we both had such crazy windstorms!

Tamara @ The Stretch Jean Incident December 1, 2011 at 4:15 pm

Looking forward to the challenge/contest!

When I get busy, sleep is usually the first thing to fall to the wayside, closely followed by chores. I always make an effort to keep up with workouts and healthy meals to keep me fueled and less stressed, but consequently, that translates to less sleep. Luckily, busy times like that are pretty rare!

Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile December 1, 2011 at 4:35 pm

This is great ! I accept the challenge :D
I hope you feel better and actually get to eat real food soon!! xo

lindsay December 1, 2011 at 4:46 pm

even with all the Sh*t going on, planning a retreat, and the holidays, you come up with a great post and encouragement for us all! You my friend are my hero!

feel better soon.
xoxo

Ty December 1, 2011 at 5:04 pm

Oh wow. I was all freaked out because we had 20 mph winds last night and the power was out for 3 hours when it was already dark anyways… Haha. Can’t imagine 100 mph and all that wreckage. o.O

Felicia (Natural + Balanced) December 1, 2011 at 5:05 pm

sweet!! i’m looking forward to this and will hopefully participate. and my gosh i hope you feel better soon :( if we were closer i’d give you some acupuncture treatments to help you!

The Delicate Place December 1, 2011 at 5:22 pm

this is a great idea even though i’m totally blowing off a workout tonight since i have to be at work by 730 for a primary culture prep. this will keep me motivated but i gotta say me working out 3-4x weekly is so much easier on my mind, body and outlook. i was so tired busting it 5-6x a week so ill try to stick to it! i really really hope they get your situation sorted! have they looked at your villi?

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga December 1, 2011 at 5:28 pm

I work out daily in general but am very dedicated in December b/c I’m on vacation…I have no excuses about being too busy to fit it in! ha!

I am sorry you are in the hospital and doing a study…I hope you find some answers, and soon!

Erica December 1, 2011 at 5:32 pm

Oh girl! Craziness-hope they figure out whats going on. Glad you and the house (minus the fence) are ok. Challenge sounds awesome. Sleep is first thing to go for me!

Lauren December 1, 2011 at 6:01 pm

Sending you good thoughts girl. Hope everything goes well with the gut procedure.
I love your December motivation. Get’em girl. :)

Sable@SquatLikeALady December 1, 2011 at 6:02 pm

I looooove this idea! :) Hopefully I remember to keep checking in O_O haha!

The first thing I let slip is CLEANING. I hate it anyway.

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List December 1, 2011 at 6:11 pm

you are just too cool. Can we be friends?
going to log today’s workout now!

Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries December 1, 2011 at 6:16 pm

We live in Utah County, so we didn’t get as big of winds, but I heard it was CRAZY up north! I’m glad nothing too outrageous happened to your house.

The first thing that falls to the wayside when I get crazy busy is usually picking up and cleaning our house. Clothes are all over, shoes don’t get put away, dishes don’t get washed, etc.

And I love your Dedicated December idea – way awesome.

Lauren @ What Lauren Likes December 1, 2011 at 6:25 pm

How cool! What a great idea for December :)

Paige @ Running Around Normal December 1, 2011 at 6:27 pm

That is insane!! :(
Our fence has blown down before in crazy windstorms before, too. Not a fun time. Boo. Especially when you rely on it to let your dog out. Hope your power is restored soon!

Secondly, I hope your x-rays give you some answers!

Lastly, Uhh you look amazing in that picture, Janetha!

Megan December 1, 2011 at 6:53 pm

I’ve had a gastric emptying study done before as well. My stomach is horrible at pushing food through – but the good news, after 3 years of pills, it finally got better! (No more pills!) I’ve also had numerous CT scans, an upper GI and a colonoscopy – so I literally feel your pain. I hope you get answers soon!

Emily December 1, 2011 at 6:59 pm

I had a gastric emptying study done once! I absolutely hate scrambled eggs unless I have hot sauce and honestly didn’t think I was going to make it. My stomach is a really slow empty-er so the test took forever:( I hope they figure out your ailment soon!

Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats December 1, 2011 at 6:59 pm

Love this idea! :) The first thing that usually slips for me is keeping my apartment picked up!

Kristin December 1, 2011 at 7:20 pm

Good luck with the gastric emptying study. I had one a few years ago. Nothing like crunchy radioactive eggs for breakfast. Yours seems a bit different. Mine I had to lay on a super narrow bed for 2 hours. The bed wasn’t wide enough for my arms so they wrapped them up in a sheet. The most I could move was to turn my head to watch tv.
I hope you get power back soon.

Jessica @ Stylish Stealthy and Healthy December 1, 2011 at 7:32 pm

What the hell, I could use some accountability. Let’s do this.

Sara December 1, 2011 at 7:57 pm

What a fantastic idea!!! You are such a motivator and encourager. I needed this!

Brittany @ LessBritt MoreLife December 1, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Living in a new city, and finally getting adjusted to my new job, some things fall to the side… and sadly some of those things have been eating right and exercising consistently! Love this! No better time than RIGHT NOW!!!

maria @ Chasing the Now December 1, 2011 at 8:16 pm

I am IN for Dedicated December. We’re traveling home for the holidays and HOPEFULLY this will help me stick with working out.

Also, hope your tests come back okay.

kelli December 1, 2011 at 8:44 pm

Hope the results of your test are not bad! I have had that test too but I had radioactive oatmeal instead haha. I am having my surgery on the 12th >.<…fun!

Krissie J December 1, 2011 at 8:50 pm

I hope all the tests go alright! I’d be one cranky b is I had to fast all day and they gave me that. Insane.

Speaking of insane, that weather is nuts!

I started the challenge and linked up to it on the blog.

Cristina December 1, 2011 at 10:02 pm

Hi Janeta
I hope my message will find you well. These is the first time when im writing u…i’ve allways wanted to buy i was to bussy with my eating disorder….
I whant to tell you that you are amaizing and so beautifull inside and out.
Ever since you mentioned about Jamie’s program i’ve read about it and one month ago when i felt in a better place(mentally) i’ve started following it and i’ve seen great results….My diet is not quiet there but still the results are great.
The suplementation is quiet simillar but i’ will try to order from bodybuilding.com if they deliver to uk as i’m living there
Thank you ver much!!!
P.s. Sorry if i’ve made mistakes on my spelling but im writing from my iphone and im still quite new to these…..:))

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) December 1, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Ka-pow- those guns are loaded!!!!! Fab photo!

Ugh the wind- we’ve had crazy winds too, but not as crazy as yours. 2 days without power, seriously? What about recharging your cell phone and blogging? I guess that’s what hospitals are for haha.

OK I hope they found out more about your gut after that GINORMOUS meal they served. Wow, how could you eat it all at once?!

Re. the Challenge- it’s so cool that you are always being so creative and motivating so many people. As I’ll be out of the country for half of the month, however, I won’t be logging my workouts on the site as I’ll be completely unplugged from the electronic world. But you know me, I’ll be training for sure, in weird random places, or with penguins on a glacier or something. Or at least I hope I will. Usually of all things in my life, exercise is the one thing I will NOT skip unless I don’t physically have the energy for it. (Then I probably just need time off that I haven’t taken in a decade).

OK did I ramble- love you- hope you get some answers soon and that tomorrow’s breakfast is better than today’s was.

meg December 1, 2011 at 10:49 pm

I am STOKED for this! What a great way to band together and keep each other accountable! I’ve been trying to keep active through the busy holiday season even if it means 5 am workouts!

Yikes about the wind/power/ pseudotornado! I’m glad your family is ok. We had a lot of wind here too! Not that crazy though. Good luck with everything with your GI study, hope they can learn something good about your guts!

Marie-Sophie December 1, 2011 at 11:19 pm

That’s an awesome idea, Janetha! Joining in (even though I don’t have a blog and live in Germany … I’ll just post my workouts at weird times and people will think I’m crazy :-)) !!!

The first thing to fall by the wayside used to be exercise! And then my job began to really suck and I realized I need workouts to get rid of stress and also stay mentally sane. Unfortunately now the first thing that I kind of ignore in times of madness is rest and relaxation … which doesn’t help my migraine at all. But trying to get better here! (I’ll simply also dedicate december to achieve that goal!)

chelsey @ clean eating chelsey December 2, 2011 at 5:27 am

Sounds like quite a crazy time in Utah!! Sorry you have to be in the hospital right now, but I hope they figure out what they heck is going on!!

Love the Dedicated December idea! I’ll be participating!

Hope @ With A Side Of Hope December 2, 2011 at 6:11 am

I hope you are feeling better, Janetha! You are so motivational! I think this is a great idea! :)

I hope that your power went on! That is crazy what is going on in Utah right now. Makes me nervous cause my half-brother lives in Utah.

brandi December 2, 2011 at 8:10 am

you are awesome – do you know that?

i hope things are okay and that they figure out what’s going with you! i know having all these tests done is a pain, but it will be worth it.

happy Friday!!!

marie December 2, 2011 at 8:45 am

I am ashamed to admit that, because I am cranky when I am stressed, manners often fall by the wayside when life is hectic. :-(

Christin December 2, 2011 at 9:38 am

Sorry to hear about your tummy troubles! :(

We had 80 mile an hour winds through central Cali earlier this week…guess they blew through to Utah then! Very scary!

VERY Excited about your fitness challenge though, POTM just ended and I was wondering what kind of challenge I could give myself for December…guess you did that work for me, thank you!

Feel better soon!

Sami December 2, 2011 at 9:43 am

i adore you. and your idea for a dedicated december. i hope your gi issues clear up! you’ll be in my prayers…i’ll also be praying for better hospital food for you ;)

xo.

Heather @ Get Healthy with Heather December 2, 2011 at 9:43 am

I love this idea! Heading over to log my workouts, including yesterdays workouts!

And I hope everything goes well at the hospital. That’s no fun at all.

Jenn @ Peas and Crayons December 2, 2011 at 9:44 am

Thanks for the Dedicated December idea Janetha! It just got cold in Iowa (it was 4 degrees this a.m.), so I am having trouble getting motivated, but I plan to keep up with you on Dedicated December.

Have I told you I’m excited about this? Because I am.

I’m so sorry to hear about all the health problems you’ve been having. What is up with all that? I really hope they figure out what is wrong and get you fixed and feeling healthy and good.

<3!

Trisha December 2, 2011 at 1:43 pm

First of all…i’ve had that gastric emptying study done. SO not fun. Hope it helps you figure stuff out though!

Second of all…i love this dedicated december idea! i’m ready to rock this month.

Michelle @lipstickandlunges December 2, 2011 at 2:08 pm

I love dedicated December! Your commitment to your fitness is very inspiring. Like you, when things get busy this time of year my workouts are the first to suffer. This is a great way to keep motivated!

steph December 2, 2011 at 2:26 pm

DID THAT TRUCK JUST BLOW OVER?! insanity!

Susan December 2, 2011 at 3:36 pm

You poor thing! I hope the tests provide some results.

Hey, at least you have power at the hospital right?

I hope everyone is safe from the winds! Prayers to you!
