who said cookies are just for dessert?
surely it wasn’t me. i have been a cookie monster lately. snickerdoodles. chocolate chip. peanut butter. i’ve been eating them all.
when erin baker’s wholesome baked goods contacted me* asking me if i would like to try out their cookies, what do you think my answer was?
an enthusiastic “yes!”—obviously. for some reason, the word “wholesome” next to “baked goods” makes me think that it is suitable for breakfast. the label on the box i received only further confirmed the cookies for breakfast idea.
well if it’s a meal, then it’s breakfast.
erin baker’s wholesome baked goods was named one of women’s health’s 125 best packaged products in 2010. the founder, erin baker, started baking & selling cookies when she was 9 years old. and YES, her last name really is “baker”—how fitting! she has turned her childhood passion into a legit company and now focuses on creating wholesome handcrafted items that are baked to order. she specializes in Breakfast Cookies, Homestyle Granola, Breakfast Cookie Minis and Organic Brownie Bites. you can read more about erin here.
i was sent three kinds of breakfast cookies.
caramel apple, double chocolate chunk and oatmeal raisin are just three of the twelve breakfast cookie flavors erin baker’s bakes up. there is a peanut butter & jelly one i have my eye on! all of the cookies are baked fresh with whole grains, are all natural and contain no trans fat.
of the three flavors i was sent, i decided to try the caramel apple first.
check out that gooey caramel baked right into the soft cookie.
prime for dunking.
i will admit, these cookies are high in carbs. but they are also high in whole grains (18 grams!) and each cookie totes 5 grams of fiber—the same as a bowl of oatmeal. at 280 calories per cookie, one is just enough to count as a meal for breakfast when paired with 6 oz of plain greek yogurt, which is what i did this morning. not a breakfast i would eat every day.. but hey, it’s cookie friday!
another product i received were the organic brownie bites.
these one ounce, all natural brownies are 90 calories apiece and are perfect for satisfying that after dinner sweet tooth. or after lunch. or after breakfast.
they are dense and chewy and DELICIOUS.
i think that if you are going to have a treat, it doesn’t have to have crap in it. that is why i was pleased by the ingredient list for the brownie bites: Organic Unbleached Wheat Flour, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Raisin Puree, Water, Organic Chocolate Chips (organic sugar, organic chocolate liquor, organic cocoa butter, organic soy lecithin), Organic Cocoa Powder, Organic Inulin, Organic Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Organic Molasses, Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Dried Whole Eggs, Organic Vanilla Extract, Baking Soda, Aluminum-Free Baking Powder, Sea Salt.
i was so stoked on the breakfast cookies and brownie bites! i am anxious to try their protein granola which totes 8g protein per 1/2 cup. i just might have to order it online.
now, for the fun part!

So many I would love to try but I would LOVE the protein granola. I have been searching high and low to find a cereal that is higher in protein and I love granola, so this fits the bill.

Don’t have a twitter account.
I would definitely try the pb&j cookie first. Pb&j anything is a winner for me!

Mocha Cappuccino! i want, i want, i want! :)
ugh, my last name is baker too and i’ve never baked anything. erin puts me to shame.
i want to try the ultra protein granola!
Wow. the breakfast cookie was totally made for me, I swear!
They look really tasty, but holy added sugar! Even the banana walnut, which I would think would be naturally sweet has 17 grams. Call me crazy, but that seems like a lot for one cookie, even if it is a meal.
I agree, Heidi. That’s why I said I wouldn’t eat this daily. Even though it is wholesome and natural, it is still a treat in my opinion. I am wondering how many grams of the sugar are from *added* sugar as opposed to natural occurring from the fruit. Would be nice to know.
Hi Everyone! Thanks for the great comments! The predominanat sweetener and the 3rd ingredient in the Breakfast Cookies is Prune Puree….we do use a little bit of evaporated cane juice as the 5th ingredient. I too limit my sugar intake and always look for products which are sweetend with fruit or molasses…A LOT of nutrition comes with this sweetness. I woudlnt recommend eating anything everyday…but when you are in a hurry or stuck in your car with hungry kids you can rely on the Breakfast Cookie to save the day! Try toasting them too!
I’ve having MAJOR trouble deciding what I would want to nom on most on their website, since everything looks so good. It would definitely be one of the cookies. Probably the double chocolate chunk because that one made me drool a little bit on my keyboard.
I’d love to try the double chocolate chunk cookie!
I follow her on twitter!
The breakfast cookie minis would be great to have on hand for rushed mornings. All the flavors look enticing — I couldn’t choose just one!
I just “liked” and commented on Erin’s page! YUM!
I have to enter again because these cookies look so good. I could pick one favorite from Erin’s website, so I narrowed it down to three things I’d love to try:
1. Definitely, the caramel apple breakfast cookie!
2. the Mocha Cappuccino breakfast cookie!
3. the Oatmeal Raisin granola!
Ow ow!
I would love to try the PB and J breakfast cookie :)
I would love to try the vegan peanut butter chocolate chunk breakfast cookie! Perfect combination for the morning….err, anytime. ;)
I tweeted :)
I so want to try the vegan chocolate chunk, but they all look amazing!
