hello! welcome to wednesday, the work week is officially half way over.
it is so weird how the actual work weeks go by so slow, yet the months whiz by faster than the speed of light.
i swear it was just august.. but it also feels like it should be friday. which would mean it would be october.
consider me baffled.
guess what today is? national coffee day! before leaving my house for work this morning, i enjoyed a mug’o’java with a half slice of homemade banana bread.
i made this bread last night. it’s momma b’s famous recipe. it is so bad, but SO good. i made a recipe page for it and if you are looking for an indulgent banana bread that will impress anyone’s taste buds, look no further. this bread is heavenly. it is by far the moistest, most delicious banana bread i’ve ever tasted.
HAPPY WAFFLE WEDNESDAY!
i got to work today and did my part in celebrating waffle wednesday with my last two freezer waffles. the brand: nature’s path with flax.
i love how easy freezer waffles are, but i have been trying to not eat them as much. i actually prefer making my waffles from scratch, but these are great in a pinch.
for some protein, i combine a 5.3 oz container of plain oikos greek yogurt with 1 TB of PB2, 1 TB of sugar free syrup and ~1 tsp of cinnamon. i call this my peanut butter maple cinnamon yogurt topping. pretty dang clever, i know.
the cool yogurt paired perfectly with the warm, crispy waffles.
this yogurt topping was a tart, sweet and cinnamony all at the same time. the hint of peanut butter from the PB2 was just icing on the cake—er, waffle.
i highly suggest you whip some up today and incorporate it into your next breakfast!
of course, i had even more coffee to continue celebrating the holiday ;)
lunch
for lunch, i had leftovers of danica’s ziti. i added some cottage cheese to bulk it up a bit and it became reminiscent of lasagna. delicious!
i also added a side of steamed veggies. i keep a big bag in my freezer at work for easy access ;)
i grabbed an apple on and ate it on my way home from work. it was a gala, but i wished it was a honeycrisp. i’ve yet to enjoy one this season. they are my favorite kind of apple!
today was an upper body day for me, which i welcomed with open arms (pun intended) because my legs are seriously sore from monday’s lower body workout.
here is today’s random routine:
warmup 5 minutes on treadmill
superset 3 times:
- dumbbell chest press x 15 reps
- dumbbell triceps kickback x 15 reps each arm
superset 3 times:
- upright dumbbell row x 15
- wide grip cable pulldown x 15
superset 3 times:
- triceps bench dip x 15
- front raises x 15
- side raises x 15
superset 3 times:
- dumbbell snatch x 15 each arm
- alternating hammer curl x 15 each arm
superset 3 times:
- single arm dumbbell row x 15 each arm
- incline pushup x 15
this took 45 minutes. it felt good. my arms are still shaky!
after my workout, i hung out with my mom. we picked peaches from her friend’s trees. the peaches were going to waste—falling from the trees left and right!
check out all those poor, wasted peaches that will never be devoured alongside vanilla bean ice cream! sad story.
we picked our little hearts out.
well, truth be told, my mom did most of the work.
i carried the bags, though. check out our haul!
i can’t wait to slice these up and put them in the dehydrator!
after the peach picking, we went to kohl’s to find halloween decorations.
i love halloween! in fact, i broke out the halloween candy basket on my desk today! i was giddy with excitement. yep.
while i don’t eat candy much myself, a lot of my co-workers do.. and i like to keep candy on my desk because it gives people a reason to come talk to me ;)
i think i love halloween so much for a few reasons. one: i love dressing up and being around a bunch of people in costume. two: it kicks off a whole bunch of my other favorite holidays. once october hits, we’ve got halloween, then thanksgiving, then christmas, then new years. and three: halloween also means that winter is upon us, which=snowboarding season. that makes me smile real big.
here is a glimpse at the decorations i snagged.
door sign:
centerpiece:
i love this house! you can put a candle inside.
i also bought some pumpkins for the porch. hopefully none of the neighborhood hooligans smash them ;)
let the holiday season begin, i am ready!!!
since i didn’t get home until about 8:30, we did a quick & easy dinner.
grilled turkey & cheese paninis on dave’s killer bread & tomato soup!
this low sodium tomato soup is actually quite tasty! the ingredients and nutritional stats aren’t shabby at all.
delicious, comforting and QUICK meal!![]()
now we are lounging on the couch and watching some show about deep fried soda. too far.
Qs~
1. do you like halloween? do you dress up? i love everything about it! the decorations, the costumes, the themed freaky foods, the parties. unfortunately, marshall hates halloween. ah, well, you can’t win them all.
2. what is your favorite variety of apple? honeycrisp is mine, i need to get my hands on one! braeburn is a close second.
xo. janetha g.

Same here! I loveeeee Halloween and Andy seriously doesn’t at all. He never dresses up with me. :(
I need to decorate our apartment ASAP!
I love honeycrisp apples too. I went through 5 of them in 3 days!
I have no money to buy Halloween decorations but I can’t wait for the day I do. So festive!
I love Halloween, but picking out a costume stresses me out! I think this year I might be a cavewoman. Since Im into this whole Primal Fitness thing, why not?!
I love Halloween- but I hate coming up with costume ideas! I love dressing up as long as someone else thinks of my costume for me! I am not creative at all.
And I love Honeycrisp and Gala!
So much cute H-ween stuff! And so fun picking peaches. Yes, my heart broke a little bit for each peach on the ground…RIP little peachies. :-(
I REMEMBER that special banana nut bread- one day I will make it and think I’ve gone to heaven.
I haven’t dressed up for Hween for a while. Now it’s all about the kids. Ahem, ‘kids’. Samantha has been a devil (shock), Charlotte was a princess. I think that Ellie will inherit Sam’s devil suit and we’ll give Sam the Princess outfit- funny how roles change over the years.
FUJI FUJI FUJI FUJI!!! :-)
Love yoU!!
hehe.. glad i am not the only one who plays dress up with the kids. ;)
Too bad I’m not there to slice all of your peaches! Is there any VB left to go with them? I love decorating for Halloween but I hate figuring out what the kids are going to be. Once they decide, it is fun to make it come together. My favorite costume by far is Lucy’s turtle costume. You should be a tortoise! You’d be darling!! And Marshall could be a hare.
marshall polished off the 3 gallon tub on sunday. don’t worry, we already bought more…
he said you need to call your pal at dreyers!
i love you!
I had a job interview today, and she asked “What have you been doing since APRIL???” and I kinda looked at her with a blank face. I mean, I sorta know where the time went, but where the f******* did the time go????
Sometimes life just sucks up your life.
O that picture of all those peaches make me tear, they are my favorite fruit.
I love halloween, but I dont dress up unless its a party. When I was younger, I had THE most creative costumes! In sixth grade, I was Juliet (from Romeo and Juliet) after she killed herself. I had this dress I got at a thrift store, a plastic sword and blood gushing out. Last year, I was a “Caesar Salad”, I had a roman-esque dress, a empty salad bad taped to my back, and croutons glued to my earrings!
Apple? I like the pink ladies. Ever tried the “grapple”? its a grape apple hybrid.
i love the caesar salad idea! too funny. i have had a grapple but to my understanding it was a grape FLAVORED apple, not a hybrid. it came in a case like this: http://www.grapplefruits.com/
is that what you were talking about?
I like Halloween but I HATE dressing up. Not sure why!
I love Halloween too however I HATE HATE HATE haunted houses and scary movies. I have been known to cry my entire way through a haunted house. I love the cute, non-scary part of Halloween!
I am also a honeycrisp apple lover, they are the best!
Oh man, those banana bread pictures.. looks like it’s sitting right in front of me.. I’m going to need to incorporate it into my life somehow today ;-). I just love holidays.. pretty much all of them. I love decorating, and of course I like the themed food aspect! Favorite apple would have to be Granny Smith.. I usually only like the really crisp and a little tart types.
I’m excited for Halloween, too, for the same reason- it starts the holiday season! I think this year I’m dressing up as the Progressive Girl (which I CANNOT STAND!) OMG, those commercials bug me to no end, and I think she is mighty scary, so I’ll just need white pants, shirt and an apron and bada-bing! I’ll just go around all night annoying people saying, “DISCOUNT!” BAHAHA!
Gosh, those pictures ALMOST make me want peaches, but then I remember that I do not like them. Blech! Nice photos, though! Oh, and that panini looks sooo flippin’ good! :)
Your waffle Wednesdays have inspired me to start having Waffle Fridays. Not as fitting as Waffle Wednesdays though. Hmmm, maybe I should change it up to Flapjack Fridays! :) LoL that works! :)
Yay for Halloween. Okay, I have a little confession. The reason I love Halloween so much is because it’s every girl’s opportunity to dress a little trashy and it be entirely acceptable. Haha, I think every girl likes to dress a little sexy sexy from time to time and not be judge. Our office always dresses up and does a huge contest. This year we are doing The Jersey Shore! LoL, it’s going to be fantastic!!!
owww naughty banana bread is the bomb. Very necessary this time of year. JEALOUS of your peach picking. I can imagine all the goodness you’re going to make with those babies. Makes me want to plan a fruit tree. HALLOWEEN is my favorite holiday. I love dressing up, love giving out candy, carving pumpkins, etc etc. I want to dress up this year. I need to think of a good costume. Favorite variety of apple- pink lady hands down!
Halloween is both Stephen and I’s favorite holiday. We both look forward to it every year.
My favorite apple variety is pink lady or rome. I am not in love with honeycrisp so much.
I’ve been in US for four years now and I’ve never dressed up for Halloween. what a shame :( I hope this year I can finally decide what costume to wear! :D
Love all those peaches!!!
favorite apple= honey crisp. I wish they’re not so expensive.
I love fall! I like Halloween as well, but part of my job involves writing about Halloween/costumes for the party industry six months out of the year (it’s their biggest holiday,) so I get a bit burned out. I’m already writing about trends for Halloween 2011, so I’m kind of over it!
However, I love costumes!!! Sexy, funny, cute, clever–it’s so fun! I must say, pet costumes are my favorite though. Chauncey was a lobster last year…
I LOVE halloween, and I LOVE dressing up! It’s in my top-3 fave holidays :)
I like honeycrisp apples, macintosh are also amazing!
xo
Kris
I just discovered Honey Crisp and seriously I have been eating way to many. They are SO yummy!
I love Halloween so much I want to get it pregnant.
1. i love your outfit and the pic with you and the ladder is adorable
2. guess what….halloween is my birthday! yeah no joke, it is THE BEST day to be born ever!! i always got double the candy and in elementary school the costume party was fuel for my celebration as well haha. it never got old! even to this day, i love being born then (i always get free drinks at the bar that night too lol)
3. i love pink lady and honeycrisp (i’ve been eating my weight in the ‘crisps as of late!) you need to get your hands on some asap!
The cottage cheese addition to the ziti is a great idea, I’m going to have to keep that in mind! Thanks! I love apples, Honeycrisp of course and Sweet Tango!
I’m particularly fond of the peach that is growing what looks to be another peach. Isn’t there just something awesome about picking and eating fruit that you’ve picked right from the source?! It’s so much more satisfying than picking it out in the grocery store!
I love the dehydrator idea as well. I just got mine a few months back and will be drying many batches of apples this fall, I’m sure. My favorites are Galas, Honeycrisp and Fuji. I like them a bit sweet, a bit tart and perfectly crispy. Mealy apples are the worst!!
PS: Thanks for introducing me to Danica! I love her blog already.
Pink ladies (lady’s?) and honeycrisps are amazing. Just discovered the ‘crisp and I can’t believe how long I missed out.
Tomato soup and grilled cheese is the BEST. Mmm. I’m not a big fan of Halloween but my dad’s b-day is the 27th so we always have a fun costume party for it.
Send me some dried peaches!!!! ;)
I love halloween!!! I was deprived of it as a child because my mom hated it (we dressed up, but stayed out for like a half an hour and she made us stop going at age 12…until I started going in high school w/ my friends) so now I go ALL OUT. I’m going as snooki this year and bedazzled some shades to make my look more real. A few years ago I was amy winehouse and my boy friend at the time drew all her tatt’s on me, before that I was punky brewster and went as far as to order a real skate key off ebay. I take this sh*t seriously.
As for apples, I like them all except macintosh and red delicious.
I love Halloween and especially now that we have the kids. The first year, we dressed them up as Thing 1 and Thing 2, and last year we dressed them up as fuzzy dice. We made the outfits for both years and had a lot of fun doing it. Not sure what we’re doing but we figure this is probably the last year we can do whatever we want. We may dress up with them this year…we’ll see.
I love Fuji but recently tried a Honeycrisp and really liked it too! ;)
Have a wonderful day, Janetha!
lol I love the clever naming convention for the waffle topping. Almost as clever as my raspberry ricotta stuffed tofu french toast breakfast hahaha ;)
Have you dehydrated peaches before? It sounds delicious!
I’m not a huge fan about Halloween. I don’t dislike it, it just doesn’t excite me as much as other holidays. Like Thanksgiving. Mmm. And Christmas! I love honey crisp apples, but my friends been telling me about this sweet tangelo hybrid? She said they taste even better than honeycrisp! I wanna try em:)
I can’t say I really care for Halloween. I haven’t dressed up in eons, but I do love scary movies and they come out around Halloween, so there’s that!
That peach haul is pretty dang exciting! Woo hoo!
mmmm soup and sammie sounds like the PERFECT cozy night meal! you know what i mean jelly bean :) i would totes be down for that if i didn’t have FRIGGN CLASS TONIGHT gaaaaaaaaah.
i hate halloween. go ahead smack me now. but i LOVE all the holidays the follow shortly after! home goods had some AWESOME halloween decor!
Dressing up is the best! As are Honeycrisp! Good call Janetha ;). How do we live in the same city, have similar interests & not know each other? Boo.
I also love Pink Ladies. YUM. Apples are perfection.
p.s. downtown Whole Foods has LOCAL Honeycrisps…they are awesome…picking some up myself later today in fact.
Oh & have you ever tried Fage? I don’t really do dairy, but I love Greek yogurt & it doesn’t seem to hate my tummy. Too bad Fage is not organic. :(
For some reason I am ecstatic about fall this year!! Halloween is a fun time but not too much going on around here unless you want to go to the Strip and dress like a whore..which you can do anytime really. I did dress up last year as a zombie and it was sawwweeet! I got my inspiration from going to see THRILLER at Tuacahn in St. George. Great show!!!
Fav apple, I am not very picky but Braeburn is up there and Pink Lady is a nice twist.
i was in marshalls yesterday and saw so many decorations including doggie costumes! thats when I wish I had a pup to dress up! that stuff is so freakin cute that you snagged!! Sadly I dont want to be spending money on that stuff right now, but I do love to ‘get in the mood’ for holidays!!
i LOVE honey crisps and macintosh apples :)
omg holy peaches! i had no idea you had a deyhydrator! i cant wait to see what they look like/taste when you are through with them!!
you should freeze a bunch too for smoothies and such–im sure you did that already because you are SUPER smart!!
nice workout!! i love DB snatches :)
Holy peaches! I should come over and help you out with some of those.
funny that marshall hates protein powder and h’ween, you love em
and he’s covered in tats and you hate em.
opposites attract maybe?
what a SHAME to have fruit rotting on the ground. We used to live in an old house from the 1920s with a VINTAGE LEMON TREE. I am not kidding when i say this tree was the size of the Xmas Trees they would put up in a mall or something. A HUGE tree. And it had 200 lemons year round, daily. I couldnt use them or give them away fast enough…memories…
H’Ween Candy Basket, i keep my odds and ends candy in mine year round :)
I’m with you – I LOVE Halloween – especially because it kicks off the holiday season :) I’m definitely my happiest self around the holidays.
I’m so torn with what I want to do for Halloween this year, though. Last year I swore I was going to stay in and hand out candy (which is strangely satisfying to me, haha), but I ended up going to this crazy awesome costume party in NYC. And, well, I’m facing the same conundrum this year! Either way, I love the festivity of the holiday, for sure :)
Adorable decorations! And I made banana bread, too!! Love it!
I’m sort of meh on Halloween. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it.
Love Nature’s Path waffles!
My mom just sent me all sorts of Halloween decorative goodies–I’ll be blogging about them soon:)
Favorite apple=Honeycrisp!
I love apples, end of story. :D
I love Halloween, but I am not so into dressing up these days – I think it’s cause I never get trick or treaters at my casa & there’s no good Halloween parties around!
i’m sure you don’t need candy for people to come talk to you ;) holy peaches!!! you’re so lucky!
Ahhh, peach picking. Such a Janetha appropriate activity :) I love Nature’s Path waffles! However, they’re more expensive here than they are in New Brunswick so I haven’t bought them since I moved to Toronto :(
1. Halloween is my FAVOURITE day of the year!! I love dressing up in costume and I love free candy even more. I’ve already decided on being April O’Neil this year. She’s my childhood hero.
2. I’m a delicious girl – red or golden. Runners up are gala and honeycrisp. However, granny smith is best for pies and mcintosh is best for apple sauce! Apples are serious business.
