dang! this weekend flew by and has been jam packed!
before i forget, i want to announce the winner of the tofuXpress giveaway:
there were 141 entries after counting the comments & the tweets. and random.org picked #1! that made it easy to figure out the winner!
congrats, erica! you win! send me your info and i will have the folks at tofuXpress send you your press. thanks to everyone for entering :) (sorry hayley!)
OKAY! i have a lot of photos on my card so i thought i would check in.
you’ll have to excuse my lack of narration, i am too physically and mentally exhausted to ramble. this post is going to be photo-heavy!
saturday after i posted, marshall & i picked out our carpet. fortunately, the carpet store was right next door to this glorious carb haven:
great harvest always makes me think of mama pea and her traffic debacle.
marshall purchased a couple loaves of bread and we each snagged a slice to go.
marshall got a slice of cinnamon burst and i went with whole wheat with butter:
we ran some more errands and before i knew it, it was time to go to my bridal shower.
i decided that i didn’t want to do a shower with my friends since they are already throwing me a bachelorette party, but my mom’s friend threw one for me and invited all the women and girls i grew up with. it was super fun to see people i haven’t seen in over a decade!
my mom and i didn’t coordinate our outfits at all, but they totally matched. she wore yellow and i wore purple (those are my wedding colors) and both our outfits had peacock feathers! weird.
i thought it was sweet that the hostess told everyone to bring “healthy” food. there was a great spread of fruit, veggies, pasta & bean sprout salad and.. of course.. some obligatory treats.
my plate:
![]()
photo time! lots of fun presents.
J & M mugs!
jessica was one of my very best friends in elementary school!
sister suni!
momma b got a little risqué with her gift ;)
marshall stopped by at the end so we could talk to joe. joe is marrying us. and joe happens to be the husband of the hostess of the shower. so it all worked out!
after the shower, i went to my mom’s and tried on my dress. it’s awesome. i think i am going to wear it to work every day after my wedding. ;)
thennn marshall and i worked at the house for a few hours. it’s the story of my life!
the kids helped.
and we taped randy’s ears.
not impressed.
nothing eventful happened saturday night. mac & cheese and an egg sandwich.. that’s about it. oh! and i read blogs for about an hour. didn’t comment on a single one, but i caught up on my google reader. that was lovely! it is so nice to read and not comment.. that is what i will be doing for the next few weeks.
today (sunday) we woke up and got to work immediately! we went to home depot for some paint and stopped by starbucks & einstein’s bagels then went to the house.
fuel:
iced black coffee and a good grains bagel with turkey sausage & egg whites.
and then we painted for six hours.
i had no idea marshall was snappin’ photos of me. sneaky.
i don’t like painting. but at least i had something cute to look at while doing so :)
momma b & my dad stopped by after church and gave us some pointers. my dad was daring enough to do some painting in his sunday best!
my lifelong friends, melina & pat, stopped by and brought us some snacks! mini bell peppers & cherries. how thoughtful is that?! i love them so much. thanks guys! i think i ate half the container of cherries ;)
we still have more to paint, but we got a lot done today. here is the living room, the darker color is the color it will all be when done.
nick & marshall dominated the kitchen. it is the same green as my bedroom.
i feel accomplished and i am covered in paint right now.
at 7 o’clock i headed to my friend jessica’s birthday party! her birthday was last monday but she was out of town, so we celebrated tonight.
it was awesome to see everyone. i feel so out of the civilization loop with all my wedding planning and house renovations.. it was nice to just chill out and socialize for a few hours :)
birthday girl!
i drank a 32 ounce black coffee. iced. at 7 o’clock at night. call me crazy.
amber & i split an ice cream sandwich:
paint-covered hands.
now i am home and eating a GIANT bowl of steamed veggies & chicken meatballs. i have been seriously lacking in the vegetable and protein department. i have been eating carbs like it’s my job. and i haven’t worked out since last tuesday.
yep. that is five days i have gone without working out! aside from painting and pushups, i haven’t done a lick of fitness related activities. i have kept busy so i don’t necessarily feel guilty about missing so many workouts, but i do miss it. i love the endorphin rush that comes from a good workout so i am looking forward to tomorrow when i can squeeze in a workout.
i have my bridals on tuesday! fun.
the wedding is in less than three weeks.
eep.
this week will be full of house & wedding stuff. these two things are consuming my life lately. i will check in again when i can!
LOVE YOU ALL! thanks for understanding my sporadic behavior :) XOXO
Qs~
1. favorite kind of bread? sourdough holds a special place in my heart. it’s so delicious.
2. what was the highlight of your weekend? i want to hear it! i miss you guys :)
xo. janetha b.

Its okay to just read and not comment. I do that too. I think we all do! You go and enjoy any free moment you have because you have been doing so much these days.
You and mama b are too cute. TOO FREAKING CUTE!!
I think it’s awesome that you are painting your own place. I think it makes it that much more rewarding when it’s all done.
FAV BREAD: Cinnamon raisin!
HIGHLIGHT: Gay pride parade!!
Love the mugs and Randy’s ears. ;-)
Last year when the tenants moved out of our rental I worked in the house for two weeks straight. I didn’t do any extra “exercise” and I ended up losing 4 pounds from all the activity. I personally think that sort of activity is the BEST there is…well…next to kettlebells. :-P
Love the shower pics..and the painting. You guys are coming along with it!
highlight = seeing my childless, sassy great friend and a farmer’s market!
xo
I love the purple dress, it’s so cute!!
The highlight of my weekend was being in one of my good friend’s wedding and realizing that her husband and I do get along! I’m much more likely to visit them now. :)
What a fun weekend! You look stunning in that dress. Congratulations on a fun shower.
The dogs are too cute!
I didn’t have half the exciting weekend you did. Um…I unpacked and went to Whole Foods for dinner. Party!!!
i LOOOVe sourdough too!! and also a HOT french bread baguette that is crisp on the outside and doughy on the insid! the house looks awesome! and love your dress to your bridal shower!! awww the J and M mugs are too cute, I see some blogging food pics with them in your future!
hahahah taped randys ears, and his face is like “FML” hahahaa too cute!!!
miss you loooove!
I love your dress!!
I am not a huge bread fan. I know. It’s crazy. But I do love some good asiago cheese bread.
Awww, your bridal shower was this weekend!!!!! That’s so wonderful girl, congrats! :) Looks like the lovely women in your life really honored you which is so fantastic. And bonus for all of the sweet gifts! :)
Okay, favorite bread is Peach Crumble Bread from Wegmans. Definitely not a health food bread, but it’s truly unbelievable!!
And the highlight of my weekend was putting our house up for sale!! Crazy feeling but great at the same time.
Happy Monday love! :)
wow, I can’t believe how soon the wedding is?!?!? Looks like ita all coming together though. What a great shower, lots of good food, friends, gifts. Thats the best!!!
Have a great monday and enjoy those eggs whites and oatmeal…hehe.
Just wanted to say, you guys make such a cute couple! Can’t wait to see your wedding pics!!
My favourite bread is tiger rolls! These are awesome, especially when fresh-baked and still a little warm. Mmm mmm…
The highlight of my weekend has to be hitting Ikea when the rest of the nation seemed to be watching the football! It was so quiet, and we managed to have a great stress-free shop, plus I got a desk and bookcase ready for starting teacher training in September! Can’t wait!! x
I think I’ll go with cornbread…..yum! The highlight of my weekend was an awesome hike we went on yesterday, so fun :-)
Crazy bread from Little Caesars is my favorite. That’s a type right?
TOOL CONCERT was my weekend!!!
Okay, I see that Randy is abused so I need to take custody of him ;)
Great answer! Crazy bread rocks!
Nice brown color on the walls! Warm shades are the best. They’re soothing and they match most things.
I love these posts where I really get the sense what your life is like– the people who fill it, the dogs sleeping on the rug. Everything. Maybe I’m a creepy stalker for that, but it’s kind of awesome.
And I love the shot of your dad painting.
P.S. EEEKK!!! WEDDING! I feel like you’re blazing the way for me a little :)
OK. I read all the time and hardly ever comment (so it’s okay!)… would it be too creepy to ask you to share the name of that paint color? ‘Bout to repaint my living room so I am stalking paint colors :o)
I love the peacock dress! Supercute. The highlight of the weekend would be camping with my fiancee and some friends. Fiancee managed to break his key off in the trunk. Luckily, he is MacGyver and managed to get the key out using scissors (after an hour of trying) and start the car!
ahhhhhhhhhhhh! I’m so excited that I won! Thank you so very much. What a crazy/busy weekend you had! Your dress at the shower is adorable and the food (especially the fresh fruit) looks amazing. The house looks like its coming along just perfectly.
Favorite kind of bread:
1. foccacia …I think…hard to pick though :)
2. I was in Boston visiting my sister so seeing my Niece and blogger meet up!
Loving the house pic updates! That fruit salad looks so darn good. Yum. I love ciabatta bread. I think an all-time fave would have to be cinnamon raisin though.
Great pics from the shower! :) The food looks yummy!
You must be so excited about the wedding+house! Sooo much to take in, in the next three weeks :) Just enjoy it and try not to get too stressed out.
I totally understand about the workouts…I used to skip all the time and not care…but now I need consistancy and I love how I feel after a good sweat ;)
The highlight of my weekend…..finding a cheaper coconut butter then artisanas..but tastes just as good ;) LOL yea my weekend was that boring :P
Wow, busy but wonderful weekend! You looked so cute at your bridal shower. And your house looks great too. Keep up the hard work! :)
Love the dress you wore to your wedding shower! You and your mom are so cute!! :) That was awesome that the hostess requested healthy dishes. Everything looks so yummy!! :)
what a fab weekend, miss janetha! the house construction/ work seems like such a strenuous/ stressful but awesomely rewarding project!
aaand i hear you on missing workouts – when you’re super busy and movin’ and groovin’, you don’t even think about it! or, that’s my way of thinking about this whole healing from a femoral stress fracture gig. no workout in three plus months and i’m somehow still sane. life is good.
The highlight of my weekend? Blowing off my 10 mile training run to get in some quality time with my husband (I’ll squeeze it in tonight. Promise!). I take him for granted far too much so it was nice to chillax and just BE together. :)
As for my favorite bread? Oh, man… anything really hearty and chewy makes me drool. I’ve got some orange pecan bread at home right now that’s to die for – not too sweet or gooey… it’s juuuuust right!
P.S. You new place is coming along famously! It looks great!
you look absolutely GORGY in that dress! You are glowing, girl.
We bought our house a couple months before our wedding 2 years ago and did a ton of updating – it was built in 1913 – so I totally understand your busy crazy life right now. Hope you have a great week and an awesome workout today!
I’m stunned by how much you manage to fit in a weekend!
Yes, you and mom look adorable!
I was on a girls’ weekend at the beach. Haven’t done that in FOREVER, but it was a nice getaway. Won $40 at blackjack at the casino. Whoot!
Your wedding day is going to be sooooo great! Remember to breathe and enjoy!
I LOVE that dress that you wore to your shower! Where did you get it?
I love bread! Especially hearty, grainy ones with alot of nuts & seeds in them. I love that dress on you btw…totally rockin’ it girl! :-)
WOW you DID have a busy weekend!! As I’ve said before, enjoy every moment!! It goes by fast…but I’m so glad you have such wonderful family members and friends to make this such a memorable time for you. I loved how pretty everything looked at your shower! I wish I was creative like that when it came to food presentation.
The colors you guys chose to pain with are awesome!!! I’m partial to browns/mochas/coffee for some reason – it was all I could do not to have everything baby-related be pink and brown, green and brown, turquoise and brown…hehehe…
Who cares if it’s been 5 days since you worked out, right? Out of 365 days (or a lifetime) that’s miniscule – you look fabulous and I hope you feel that way, too!!!
XOXO
I love the brown/tan paint. It’s funny, when we moved in, our house was all white and the only colors that I’ve painted in multiple rooms are brown and green. Weird. :)
I absolutely love cinnamon raisin bread, I don’t know why I don’t buy it more often. And BrewFest was the highlight of my weekend!
Girl, your mom reminds me so much or Mrs. Brady! She looks just like her!
The house is looking so good! can’t wait til we all get to see the finished product ;)
My fav bread… this is where I’m supposed to say sprouted wheat, but I have to say that san luis sour dough is one of my most favorites. infact, i had to go to the ‘regular’ gracery store and picked up a loaf bc its Brian’s fav. kind of bread too. we totally ate that whole load in 3 days HAHAHAHA!
the highlight of my weekend was sleeping in with Bri sunday morning and then playing battlefield bad company all ‘effin day… we’d had a looooooooong day sat. bc of a friends wedding. you’re prob thinking, wasn’t the wedding the highlight…? unfortutanely, no… it wasn’t :l was a borring wedding (BOO!) with about 2.5 hours of speeches before we got dinner at 9:30 ?! UGH (..and we’d gotten to the wedding site at 1)did I eat my arm off ? YES! haha …right after 2 cocktails on an empty stomach ;P
my favorite bread is definitely either sour dough or ezekial for normal like sandwhiches and stuff and french bread for dipping and french toast, mh! so glad cherries are back in season!
What a great looking food spread at the party! How fun! I LOLed at Randy’s ears being taped together – during Christmas, I try to make my dogs wear mini Santa hats and they just rip them off – no fun!
A nice, seedy whole wheat has always been my favorite bread but millet is holding high :0)
My favorite thing I did this weekend was find kombucha!!
Janetha, you look a-mazing in your bridal shower dress!!! I don’t know why, but I got all kinds of excited when I opened this and saw you had your bridal shower… you’re going to be a MRS lady!!! And I used to do that with my basset hound’s ears all the time. I swear I had his best interests at heart :P
1. Fave bread = brown bread with molasses. Runner-up is dark rye.
2. Highlight of my weekend was biking around Ottawa yesterday with my big sis!! And going to a vegetarian buffet ;)
P.S. I got that somethingsomething in the mail – but it’s at my mom’s place in New Brunswick so I haven’t seen it yet. I think she’s going to ship it to me in Ontario. THANK YOU!!! xoxo
just found your blog and i love it. i had to laugh at erica’s comment bc i think “ow” is her favorite word. and if she really likes something it’s “owwww” hahahha she’s so cute!! she lives in the same town as me :)
i loooooove great harvest. i want to live there. yep, right in the kitchen, and eat bread all day.
my favorite is cinnamon chip!!
ahhhhh less than 3 weeks!!! can’t wait for the wedding dress un-veil :D
LOVE your outfit @ your bridal shower- so FREAKIN’ cute! & OMG- your arms look awesome!! I know I told you that before- but they seriously are rockin’!!
love those colors that you have- the 2 browns. they look great together!!
Sourdough is my favorite too :) SOOOOO good…mmmm
highlight of the weekend- going to dinner w/ my parents & sister & her husband& craig last night :) love my family!
AWW What a FUN SHOWER girl!!! so glad you are doing well!! cant believe the wedding is sooo soon! you and your mom are SO CUTE! seriously- you are gona look DANG good in that wedding dress! LOVE YOU
I love your peacock dress! Where did you get it?
your life is looking jam-packed and lovely! your shower looks like it was a blast. my fave bread would be anything by great harvest – they can do no wrong! and the best part of my weekend would’ve been seeing toy story 3 with my little cousin…
Fun bridal shower pictures, brings back memories!! My husband and I will be celebrating 9 years in August :) The house renovating looks awesome so far, happy painting!!!

I love the shower pics – and your dress! Too cute! Getting your home ready must be such hard work, but I am sure it’s a great bonding experience for you guys. I can’t wait to see the finished product!
My fave bread used to be my Nana’s homemade Italian, but we don’t get to enjoy it anymore. I’m a sucker now for any artisanal fruit and nut bread with dried cranberries or raisins.
My weekend was fairly uneventful, but we did get to see Shrek 3 :) It was hysterical!
I LOVE your dress! Looks like such a fun shower ;)
For me, sourdough is the best traditional bread, but I’m such a sucker for a good garlic naan. Does that count? I sure think so! I had such a blast going out dancing with some new friends on Saturday night…totally worth the booze on the jeans and the awful experience of hung over grocery shopping!
Your wedding is in three weeks!?!?!?! Eep! I feel like it was yesterday that you announced your engagement!
You look gorgeous in those bridal shower pictures! The dslr brings out your radiance even more!
My favorite bread is French baguette that must be from France. Seriously. The water there is different or something. I thought baguette in French speaking Belgium would be similar, but it was not. France reigns supreme. I also love cinnamon raisin swirl bread, especially a slice from the middle of the loaf where it’s the goopiest. I could write a thesis on bread.
Highlight of my weekend: meeting up with Katharina in Miami!
Love your dress! My roommate has the same one. Forever 21?
1. Favorite bread is Alpine Valley Bread with flaxseeds ( I think) which they sell only at some Costcos. sooooo good!
2. wow I had a busy weekend, but the highlight was probably mimosas on Sunday. Although maybe it was a bit too much fun ;-)
You are so cute. Do I say that every post? I’m love how comfortable you are in your skin. I love how in love you are with Marshall. I love that you get drunk on coffee. I love that you think of my most embarrassing moment when you eat really good bread.
I don’t think I ever met a slice of bread I didn’t like. And my favorite part of the weekend was just enjoying the sunshine with my loves.
Lovin the pics your looking super gorgeous! I can’t eat bread because of the yeast but I do love tortilla wraps. I had the best weekend, I went to Glastonbury festival and its was meds! x x
Hahaha, Randy’s ears. I love it.
Bread hates my tummy – but I love french bread. I just never get to eat it. :-(
Man, you’ve been busy! I love being busy; it feels so good to get stuff accomplished! Painting is like slow torture in my opinion, hahah. You put up tape and everything… I’m so past that point; I just shove all the furniture to the center and grab a roller! I’m so happy that we’re done with the painting part of our renovations. :]
I love all sorts of bread. It depends on what its being used for… but my all time favorite has to be a thick, seedy wheat bread. Wow, I’m having deja vu right now…
YOU, miss janetha, are positively glowing. :) Rocking the bootay shorts, paint marks, and bagel sandwiches. and not working out for five days. I love you.
Anddd your very large iced coffee. UM, summer nights are what iced coffee is for. or is it iced coffee is what summer nights are for?! idk.
random, unimportant question… from a WI girl…
is marshall wearing a GREEN BAY PACKERS hat?!
