and this:

IMG_5885

and we finally finished.

IMG_5892

for the most part. still have to do the return address labels. on 300 invitations.

IMG_5893

needless to say… this post is going to be so lame. i have to sleep sometime or another!

meal 1: egg whites + toast + laughing cow + coffee

IMG_5794

this reminds me of something i ate for breakfast very often growing up.  we called it “eggs, mayonnaise, toast” and it was just that: two pieces of white bread, toasted, slathered in mayonnaise and served with a side of two eggs, scrambled, always cooked in the microwave.  our family never made scrambled eggs on the stove. it was always in the microwave. is that weird? probably. but it is easy. this meal reminded me so much of the old favorite.. only this version is much better for me as i have swapped the mayo out for laughing cow light cheese, trader the white bread in for cracked wheat and used straight egg whites instead of two whole eggs (yes, i know the yolks are good for you, but i try to eat them in moderation.)  i love meals that remind me of my childhood!

IMG_5778 IMG_5785 IMG_5786 IMG_5790

we have to stop spending so much money on coffee. it’s such a bad habit.

meal 2: sweet potato + steamed veggies + cottage cheese + chicken + ketchup

IMG_5806

protein packed.

IMG_5798

i love random bowls of delicious.

IMG_5802

meal 3: 100 calorie bag of kettle corn + string cheese + isopure protein drink

IMG_5821 IMG_5823

might have been random, but it was balanced and did the trick!

IMG_5818

moves: insanity DVD (plyometric cardio circuit)

marshall was super hungry and we weren’t going to be eating for a bit, so he managed to polish off some more of my birthday ice cream cake.

IMG_5830 IMG_5825 IMG_5827

i can honestly tell you i didn’t have even a nibble.

we went to kristen & rory’s and i told them i’d make them dinner if they helped us with the invitations. fair trade? i think so!

i utilized my AMAZING birthday gift i just received from danica!

IMG_5834

and now if you’ll excuse me, i have a bed to attend to. i am beat!

Bites Licks Tastes & etc today~

  • 1 gallon water
  • caramel crunch protein bar
  • 3-4 bites of marshall’s banana split ice cream
  • multivitamin

not bad, aye?

Qs~

1. what were your staple breakfasts when growing up? in addition to the “eggs, mayonnaise, toast” i decsribed above, we always had “cocoa & toast” which was simply buttered toast and nesquik (back when it was just called “quik”!) with milk, heated. i could eat 4 pieces of toast and a mug of cocoa.. ohh man, talk about comfort food for me. french toast was also a staple in our house, as was cold cereal most mornings before school. we would occasionally have whole wheat pancakes or waffles. oh, and on weekends we would have german pancakes.. those are SO good! momma b always asked us what we wanted for breakfast the night before, and she always had it ready for us. what a great mom.

2. what is your favorite kitchen gadget/appliance? love my new panini press! but i also love my vitamix and my kitchenaid. oh and my food processor! i definitely have more gadgets than i know what to do with!

Your invitations look beautiful! Wedding planning gives you a whole new appreciation for every wedding you go to- doesn’ t it? So sweet of your friends to help you guys….but I think they made out on the better end! What a din din- yum. Hope you got some good sleeps

1. what were your staple breakfasts when growing up? cereal & milk (obv) and cinnamon raisin toast (I used to dance around my kitchen when my mom would buy this)

2. what is your favorite kitchen gadget/appliance? oh gosh…I love my magic bullet, my pampered chef mini chopper, my coffee pot!

Lauren June 17, 2010 at 3:38 am

My nannny use to make me Smashed Eggs growing up, which was one hard boiled egg smashed with butter and salt and pepper. I LOVED them! Geeze its been so long since I’ve had smashed eggs! :)

What an incredible gift from Danica! What a sweetie. I’m sure that press will be used quite a bit. I foresee many grilled wraps on the future of this blog. :)

Hope your week is going well love.

Jenna June 17, 2010 at 3:42 am

Omg eggs in the micro is the only way to go!
Loveeee paninis!

Allie (Protein Girl) June 17, 2010 at 4:20 am

How exciting!! 300 invites? Wow. Just wait til the thank you note hassles begin…

I adore all my kitchen appliances and use them frequently. Growing up breakfast staples were hardcore mormon health nut items – boiled wheat berries, food storage cereals, etc. Carbs, carbs with a side of carbs!

Marisa (Loser for Life) June 17, 2010 at 4:21 am

Holy guacamole, that’s a lot of invitations! It’s gonna be one heck of a fabulous party, JB!

Yay for paninis!

My favorite kitchen gadget is my food processor!

simplyshaka June 17, 2010 at 4:25 am

All I would be eating would be wraps paninis etc if I had that thing. I would seriously forget about everything else! Very sweet of her to get that for you!

I’ve never had microwaved eggs and was just thinking the other day if they would taste different or not. I may have to give it a try but growing up I was all about the Fruity Pebbles and still love em!

MelissaNibbles June 17, 2010 at 5:05 am

If you press it, they will come…those paninis look great!

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) June 17, 2010 at 5:10 am

Whoo wedding invites! Yours look so cute! Our are SUPER casual… now I kind of wish I had pretty ones :P And 300??? WOWZA that is a big wedding! 10x ours, literally!!

A griddler, AWESOME! I want one!! :P

I used to love cinnamon sugar toast- toast, butter, cinnamon/sugar mix. And I used to eat- this is gross guys- toasted lender’s frozen bagels, with butter and american cheese melted on top. It was my FAVORITE thing ever. Now I prefer fresh whole grain bagels with light cream cheese, thanks ;)

And if I had a vitamix, it would def. be my fave ;) But I don’t. I still love my kitchenaid mixer. Oh, and my rice cooker is a godsend. But my Chef’s knife is my best “appliance”, hands down. Nothing like a littly arm action, eh?

I really want a wafflemaker for my wedding though. Got it on the Crate & Barrel AND the Sears registry, ‘cuz that’s how I roll. ;)

xo

Heather (Where's the Beach) June 17, 2010 at 5:28 am

Sometimes random, but balanced snacks are the best! Congrats on getting those invites done. That’s such a HUGE chore.

Lori (Finding Radiance) June 17, 2010 at 5:30 am

Those paninis look amazing! Yum!

We had a lot of Capn Crunch (Crunchberry) growing up for breakfast. Or those little packets of oatmeal. Brown sugar and cinnamon was my fave.

I use my espresso machine daily and I love the Magic Bullet (which I think, sadly, is close to its death).

Teri [a foodie stays fit] June 17, 2010 at 5:34 am

Those paninis look so delicious!

I loved Golden Grahams growing up. And Shredded Wheat. My mom would make eggs, pancakes, waffles, etc all the time and I never wanted it. Was was wrong with me???

I love my Bialetti, my french press, my Bosch and my food processor. And my ice cream maker. What am I talking about…i love all my kitchen appliances!

Talia June 17, 2010 at 6:09 am

Childhood comfort foods-

Ohhh, my daddy would always fix me and my sister poached eggs with crumbled up Ritz crackers in it! SOOO good! And, my mama would make us grits and eggs. Definitely a “country breakfast” (we grew up in Texas). It’s funny, my hubby who grew up in NJ has never even heard of grits, let alone tried it HA!

My favorite kitchen gadget HANDS-DOWN is my magic bullet! I don’t know how I’d go a day without my fast, easy and delicious protein shakes. It was my favorite wedding gift at our wedding last year!

Have a fab day!
T:)

PS- i still can’t get over how awesome your pics look!

RunToTheFinish June 17, 2010 at 6:10 am

for an exhausted woman that was still quite a post!!

we always did eggs in the microwave too

Tamara June 17, 2010 at 6:21 am

Wow, the panini look fantastic! Great idea. I love Flatout. :)

andrea June 17, 2010 at 6:46 am

Invites look great! I spent my night stuffing invites too…. they all went in the mail this morning, best feeling in the world!!

Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday June 17, 2010 at 6:46 am

Those wedding invitations are adorable!

Marissa June 17, 2010 at 6:48 am

I’m pretty sure from age 10-13 I existed primarily on cereal. Like, for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. And I probably would have eaten it for dinner to if my mom would have let me. Mmm… Honey Bunches of Oats and chocolate Special K.

Sabrina Nan June 17, 2010 at 6:49 am

we used those same stamps for our invites, good choice!!
they look beautiful :)

Danielle C. June 17, 2010 at 6:59 am

I love your invites, they look so simple and beautiful!

My favorite breakfast growing up was cinnamon toast, I’ve been having a craving for it lately so I think I should make it!

My favorite kitchen gadget is for sure my Kitchen Aid stand mixer, with the attachments it is so versatile.

Graze With Me June 17, 2010 at 7:07 am

Beautiful invitations!

I’m all about kettle corn, I can’t wait to buy a big bag at the next festival/rodeo we go to. I could live on one of those giant bags for days.

Growing up my mom always made me cinnamon-sugar toast for an easy breakfast. Just toasted bread, a little butter and cinnamon sugar broiled for just long enough to melt the sugar. Mmmm.

freckledfoodie June 17, 2010 at 7:21 am

Awh! Danica is such a sweetheart! I absolutely love her. I need to get a press in my life stat! I saw this morning on IGE her grilled tofu using that puppy, and my life would be so much more complete with one in it! haha.

Your invitations are super cute & the houndstooth is brilliant!

Breakfast staples growing up in our household were poptarts (specifically strawberry, brown sugar, & s’mores) or toaster strudels. We also LOVED rice krispies piled high with sugar and swimming in milk, or lucky charms! :) We also had those freezer mini waffles that we coated in butter & brown sugar! Haha. Ohhh man.

My favorite kitchen gadget is most definitely my Bella Blender. It’s individual sized, and I use it a least once a day whether it’s to make naner softserve, a green monster, or protein ice cream!

Maren June 17, 2010 at 7:22 am

Wow, that is a serious stack of invitations! How exciting!! My boss (aka, boyfriend’s dad) impulse shops at ALL grocery stores, Bass Pro Shop, and Cabela’s. Weird. Anyway, we have this panini maker sitting in the back room at the office and I’ve been wanting to take it home and try it out! You just convinced me with that flat out panini! I don’t like ciabatta bread, but I didn’t even think to use a flatout!! Genius! ahh I’m so excited for lunch :)

Growing up, I ate 3 bowls of cereal every. single. morning. I was obsessed…and still am. but I just eat one serving of much healthier cereal now!

I don’t really have very many kitchen supplies since I pretty much live at my boyfriend’s parents house and they have everything imaginable!

Naomi(onefitfoodie) June 17, 2010 at 7:36 am

woman, your food is fan freakin tastic as always! the invites look so beautiful! i love your colors that you chose…purple is one of my favs!!!

popcorn is DA BOMB!! i love the single serving bags of it, great snack to bring to work for sure!!

ahh I want a panini press so bad!!! i see them all over the place but havnt gotten my hands on one…I know it can take a sandwich MILES from just a regular one :) and yours looks beyond delicious.

staples in my house growing up…cottage cheese with pineapples…the kind that you can pre buy with pineapples mixed in. i lived off of that!! we also loved string cheese and always pancakes onthe weekends with crazy mix ins like sprinkles, candy, gummi bears (yeah thats right) haha

favorite kitchen gadget it my magic bullet, food processor and french press!!

love you!

Carbzilla June 17, 2010 at 7:56 am

1. Wheaties or scrambled eggs with herbs.
2. Such a cliche, but I could not live without my Vitamix. To really get down to it though, I’m pretty sure I would be a crumpled heap without the coffee maker!

OMG I can’t believe your wedding is so soon!!!!!!!

Sweet Cheeks June 17, 2010 at 8:04 am

LOVE the press marks!! Now I need one. Great. ;) First on the list is still the tofu presser though! See what blogging does to me? I have to have EVERYTHING!

Megan @ The Daily Sweat June 17, 2010 at 8:12 am

I like the color purple you’re using for your wedding, its beautiful! Good choice. I really like how you track your bites, licks and nibbles. I need to start doing this because I think I really screw up my diet when all of those little bits are added in.

Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices June 17, 2010 at 8:19 am

LOVE your invitations- they came out SO freakin’ cute!! You are having a pretty big wedding, huh?
GO you guys for accomplishing all of your invitations in one night- I know it’s a ton of work!! YAY for a Panini press- that is awesome. Your sandwiches look really good. & the sides from Whole Foods..yummm! :D
My staple breakfast growing up was cereal- I loved the stuff. I could seriously eat a box in about 3 days….really.
My favorite kitchen item is my CHOPPER! I have no idea what I would do w/o it now. I’m so spoiled with it- such a time saver!!

Danica June 17, 2010 at 8:22 am

WOW!!!! Now if I could’ve only come over for Build Your Own Panini Night ~ I would’ve stuffed invitations for that!! :D YUM! I need to get my panini press on now LOL. Glad you got it and love it….I am pretty sure I’ll be drooling over everything you make for awhile.

I LOVE grill marks though – they make everything just taste better :)

xoxo ~ Me

Allie (Live Laugh Eat) June 17, 2010 at 8:23 am

So I thought the skull on Marshall’s shirt was a cupcake :) Obviously, we know where my head is at.

Grill marks=so lovely.

Childhood bf was definitely eggs and either cheese or soy sauce. That or some good ol’ Lucky Charms and/or Cookie Crisp.

lisaou11 June 17, 2010 at 8:54 am

sadly, my staple breakfast was some supery sugary cereal. Ahh the good ole days of Frosted Flakes and Fruit Loops (which the number 1 ingredient is sugar) no lie.

The thought of mayo with breakfast makes me sick though–mayo gives me shivers–yuck.

Stef June 17, 2010 at 9:09 am

Hey,
when you mentioned cocoa and toast I was like: Oh wow, they had that too and then I read on and saw that you ment drinking a hot chocolate and eating toast with it. Well I had a real cocoa and toast since I used to have a slice of toast with some butter and then cocoa powder on top of the bread yum!
We never had any real cool things for breakfast when I was growing up. Our breakfast always consisted of rolls with whatever everyone put on them and it is still like that to this day.
I love alls those kitchen gadgets you talk about. I’ve got this huge list of thigs I want to get for my kitchen when I move out of my parents house (I have a couple of cool gadgets but cannot keep them in the kitchen because my parents don’t like my stuff cramming up the kitchen).

april June 17, 2010 at 9:12 am

I have a Cusinart panini maker and love it! Is that the one where it can be a griddler too? If so it works awesome for pancakes!!

Mary @ What's Cookin' with Mary June 17, 2010 at 9:14 am

Miss J, Your invatations are so adorable! I looooove the purple :D What a cool gift you got from Danica!! I’ve always wanted a panini press… Loving your ‘build you own’ panini bar! So fun ;)

My favorite breakfast when I was growing up was scrambled eggs, 2 soysage links (i used to haaaate any pork/ turkey sausage) and a toasted frozen waffle with a little syrup. I haven’t thought about that breakfast in a while, but it sounds SO good. Maybe I’ll bring her back…

My favorite kitchen gadget right now has got to be my vitamix… I’m also loving my french press these days. After using it on our camping trip I’m having a hard time going back to drip coffee!? Am I ruined forever? haha

Marie June 17, 2010 at 9:30 am

The pictures for your invitations look SO BEAUTIFUL! :)

Alicia June 17, 2010 at 9:33 am

1. My breakfast staple growing up was a bran muffin with a slice of butter put in the microwave for 20 seconds! I LOVED and still love a good quality bran muffin…hmmmm yummy.

2. I think my favorite kitchen appliances are my kitchenaid stand mixer, hand held mixer, and cuisinart food processor…they make my life muy bueno.

Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather June 17, 2010 at 9:45 am

Growing up I always loved chocolate cream of wheat… And I still do!

Hallie June 17, 2010 at 10:35 am

Love my food processor! Actually, I love that my boyfriend loves it, because he makes the best salsa. I also love love LOVE my Keurig coffee maker. The coffee k-cups aren’t exactly cheap, but I figure $0.40-0.50 per cup is better than buying a cup at a cafe…riiiiight?

Kara June 17, 2010 at 10:43 am

I absolutely love your invitations (and pretty much everything else I’ve seen for your wedding).
And the other day the texture of some extra-toasted toast reminded me of one of my favorite childhood breakfasts-cinnamon toast. Whole wheat toast slathered in butter and liberally covered in a cinnamon-sugar mix.
It was always so delicious, but thinking back on it I can’t believe my mother thought that much sugar and that much butter was a good idea.

Kati June 17, 2010 at 11:10 am

I’ve never tried microwave eggs either, but I might just give it a try to save some time! My food processor and my good ol’ blender are my favorite. Even though my boyfriend has a juicer, I still love using my blender for delicious smoothies! That panini press looks amazing, I need to get one of those!

jayme (cars&carbs) June 17, 2010 at 11:29 am

ok, i’m done with creeping. these comments in my head are dying to get out.
your invitations look gorgeous! :D
and wow, you get so creative with your paninis. wannnnnt.
oh my lanta, there are so many comfort foods that i still get to enjoy once in a while. mom’s lasagna, dad’s fluffy french toast, grandma’s heart-shaped waffles with hot vanilla pudding… yup.
and i think my favourite kitchen appliance is this thing i got for like 20 bucks at wal-mart, it has a griddle on top, flip it and it becomes a grill. pretty coooool.

Katie June 17, 2010 at 12:24 pm

I have the exact panini press and I love it so much.

1. Breakfast was always different at mi casa growing up…faves were: cinnamon toast, cereal, pancakes, waffles, smoothies and sometimes CAKE! I think the variety is why I love breakfast SO much now.

2. My fave kitchen gadget changes, but right now, it’s my food processor or blender. Tie. I love them both the same.

Em June 17, 2010 at 1:17 pm

what a thoughtful gift! looks like fun.

1. cream of wheat (with food coloring! to suit my mood), special k, or a pumpernickel bagel. always with a side of fruit.

2. my vita-mix and my apple slicer. I use one or both, sometimes multiple times, every day.

Jenny June 17, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Danica – if you’re reading, my birthday’s in January ;) joking! But wow, what a lovely and special gift!!!

props for finishing up the invites, girl. Your tongue must hate you today after all that sealing.

Dawn (HealthySDLiving) June 17, 2010 at 2:03 pm

300??? Wow! How exciting…it’s getting so close! That picture of you both is GREAT!

Kim (Imperfectly Perfect) June 17, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Great job with getting your invitations done! That’s a big accomplishment! I love the color of the envelopes.

My mom used to make us Popeye eggs growing up. Pancakes were another fave, that I always chose for my birthday breakfast. We had a lot of cereal, but none of the sugary stuff was allowed. Whenever we went to the mall I’d get a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese and a small orange juice. That was one of my favorite traditions with my mom.

So nice of Danica to get you the panini press! I can’t wait to get a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer. I’ve wanted one for FOREVER! Some day…..I do love my immersion blender, George Foreman and Magic Bullet.

Hayley June 17, 2010 at 2:09 pm

You have definitely been one busy bee!! I remember the stuffing, licking and sealing, and stamping of the invitations, but we didn’t have 300! Way to go you! They are such cute invites! I love the colors. :)

That is SO COOL you got a panini press from Danica!! I have always wanted one of those myself, but I feel guilty when I think about buying one because I usually just use my Foreman grill to make hot sandwiches and/or wraps.

As simple as your breakfast may seem it sure looks delicious! :) I hope you got some rest chicky!

Paije June 17, 2010 at 2:31 pm

Ohh la la!! The invitations look great!!

What a great gift! I would love a panini press! I love the flatout on the press! YUUMMM

She-Fit June 17, 2010 at 4:18 pm

I think I missed your birthday… Happy Birthday! Man, that cake looks good. I don’t know how you resisted that : )

julie June 17, 2010 at 6:12 pm

will i EVER be invited to panini ngiht? actually i want to be invited to waffle wednesday AND panini wednesday. that’s it i’m coming over next wednesday night. i dont have a waffle machine OR a panini maker and you have both. plus you have a gorgeous wedding photo and cake.

see you then.

BroccoliHut June 17, 2010 at 6:34 pm

Yay! Your wedding is becoming so real–you must be so excited.
My go-to breakfast as a child was Honey Nut Cheerios. Mom always made dinner, but we were on our own for breakfast.
Favorite kitchen gadget=immersion blender.
