hey guys! it was SO fun hearing about what your city and/or state is known for! it was also cool to hear where everyone lives, i had no idea that some of you lived where you live. thanks for sharing :)
how did your tuesday pan out? mine has been non-stop and i am just sitting down to blog~ it is past 9 PM! yikes! posts usually take me a good 1.5 hours, so i hope i can manage a speedy post tonight so i’m not up super late.
well, as promised, i have the third and final recap of my trip to goblin valley!
in case you missed it:
sunday.
sunday morning we woke up after the rain storm and, fortunately, the rain had stopped and we were left with damp ground.
we decided to pack up camp right off the bat so we didn’t have to worry about it later.
you can tell randy is a huge pain in the ass help ;)
while cleaning up, i realized we had never given the dogs their rawhide bones! dangit! we busted them out and dropped them on the ground.. two bones for two dogs. makes sense, right?
well. penelope jane had a different idea.
yes. that is her. being a huge bone hog and putting BOTH giant bones in her mouth at once!!!!
oh my gosh. i die.
we were all doubled over in laughter. what a little brat she is.
we finagled one of the bones away from her so randy could have his.
then.. something else hilarious happened. penny started digging a hole and proceeded to bury her bone right in front of us! (usually they go somewhere to bury them.)
going.
going.
going.
GONE!
HA!
and, wouldn’t you know it, randy moseyed off to bury his bone, too.
now you see it.
now you don’t!
silly dogs. they keep us entertained.
next item of business was breakfast! we made eggs and some failed potatoes (they didn’t cook long enough and were crunchy) over the open fire.
cast iron is a god send.
fun fact! you can purchase cast iron skillets at camping supply stores for MUCH cheaper than you can in kitchen stores. sure, they look a little rough around the edges.. but they get the job done! we got ours from marshall’s grandpa, but i noticed the low price of them while shopping for camping gear.
instead of potatoes, i had pineapple chobani+muesli
and melon!
glorious sunday breakfast :)
ketchup and laughing cow turn eggs from ordinary to extraordinary! true story.
i have a confession. i think i am starting to actually like raisins.
or at least not mind them like i used to. in fact, i used to despise them and gag whenever i accidentally bit into something that contained raisins. funny how our taste buds come around!
by the way.. randy always makes sure to be next to whoever is eating. he is such a beggar.
after fueling properly, we packed up the cars and decided to do a little exploring before hitting the road. we snapped a timer photo of the 4 of us before leaving the camp site!
awe.
we drove up the road a ways and found some super sweet rock houses. i wonder if the miners used to live in them?
creeeepy cave.
gorgeous views.
cool trails.
happy family :)
i am fairly certain that after this little exploration expedition, the dogs were D-O-N-E.
so we hit the road! when we stopped for gas i realized i hadn’t eaten one of the 10 billion bars we bought! which is cool, because that means i relied on real food over protein bars. score.
i picked the super protein bar and some apple rings as a snack when we let the pups out for a potty break.
and then it was 3 hours of driving.
and staring at my dirty feet.
the dogs had dirty feet paws, too.
and we eventually made it home :)
the end.
that is it! my camping recap is donezo. hope you enjoyed it!
i leave you with my meals & moves of today.. no rambling required.
meal 1: peanut butter chocolate protein oats + coffee
meal 2: steamed vegetables + cottage cheese + spicy mustard
meal 3: chobani & muesli

and that is all i’ve had today. i am about to go have meal 5! it will be some grilled chicken and veggies. yes, i know it is now past 10 PM. i am a late eater.

Qs~
1. favorite snacks to eat on road trips? i love dried and fresh fruit, PB filled pretzels, string cheese and sliced veggies.
2. what foods have your taste buds changed their mind about lately? yes i have asked that before but our taste buds change every day! my answer is raisins. i am still anti hot dog.. i think that one will never change.

OMG how fabulous was your trip. And I can’t believe that little rat hogging TWO bones! Died laughing!
The photos are epic- unreal to be exact. Love that you ate real food and soooo tasty. Love torrential rainstorms- they are fun if a pain. If you are prepared for them, they are the coooolest.
Love your neat photo layout with the multiple small photos just below the big honker. Cool. Sigh- I wish I could go wordpress.
Love you sooo much, been thinking about you!
d
I used to HATE salads. Wouldn’t go near them. I love them now.
Same with spinach!
There’s more, but I can’t remember it right now. Haha.
holy photos…wow!
stevia! I used to think it was nasty and now, well, i am an addict :)
I’m so impressed with your recap of this trip. Your pictures are incredible.
Your dog and I both grovel at people’s feet for food. I might have to fight him for table scraps should we ever be in the same place at the same time.
I went through a phase where I hated tomatoes, but now I eat them all the time. Weird.
My fave road trip snack are dried apricots.
oh my gosh! The dogs are too funny!! I love that Penelope took both bones. Smart girl ;) I want to build a fire to cook over…..maybe we can build a little pit in our backyard. Glad you had such a nice/fun trip. And aren’t puppy feet just the cutest?
1. favorite snacks to eat on road trips? I like to home make bars to bring along. Also like carrots and fruit
2. what foods have your taste buds changed their mind about lately? Definitely have changed since I was a kid. I used to hate peas and peppers and now I love both!
I’m just loving th dog pics. I think our dogs should have their own blog. Oh….the life they live, so nice! haha.
Favorite road trip snack, turkey jerky. Followed by some mentos to get rid of my jerky breath. ;)
Cheers!
What? Can it be? Praise the day when you actually like raisins!!!! :) LoL
I always seem to bring a million bars with me on trips too and usually end up eating 1-2. I guess I feel better knowing I have them, but when I’m away, I want to enjoy different and real food.
Wow girl, you make me actually want to go camping! :)
Have a wonderful day love.
Buhahahah!!! I can’t wait for Mike to get home so I can show him your pups!!! How cute!
My roadtrip snacks are protein powder and shaker cups. Sometimes I bring trail mix too. That’s dangerous!!
What a fun end of the trip! I totally need to go camping now!!
I love dried fruit and CHIPS on road trips… usually I pack something like pita chips (healthier!) but it never fails, if Nick packs Ruffles or somethin’…. I eat THEM instead. Sigh. PB pretzels are also amazing!!
Well I’m warming up to meat again… :P
I actually used to HATE peanut butter. Now I love it!!
xo
Kris
Can I move to SLC and go camping with you? Despite the freaky weather, I think I’d like it. The pictures from your trip are amazing.
Looks like funnn!
That is TOO funny about Penelope stealing both dog bones!!! I love how you caught it all on camera – and then them burying their bones…that is so cute! They looked so proud afterwards, too. :)
I am SO with you on raisins, although I still can’t stand them. When I was little I used to eat Raisin Bran and pick out all the raisins. I liked the bran flakes but not the nasty raisins. I recently told someone that story and they said, “You DO know they make a cereal called ‘Bran Flakes'” right?” Heheheh….
I think I’m going to have to pick up some Muesli – did you get that from Whole Foods? The Kellogs brand has HFCS but I tried some Muesli in Greece and LOVED it!!
Those miners used to be pretty short, eh?
I ALWAYS hated avocados and guacamole but now I LOVE both! I think the “hate” stemmed from the whole fat-fear thing. Now that I’m over that I’ve discovered just how good the two things are. :)
Welcome back!
Luuurve the photos!
I used to despise red wine and now I really love it (which is good and bad, if you know what I mean HA!) I used to hate onions, too, but now they are so flavorful, so long as they are cooked a long time. As far as those raisins go, I still can’t stand them. I always pick them out of carrot cake and don’t think I’ll ever like them…bleh!
Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!
Talia:)
Love the picture of your pup with both of the bones. Our female would have done the same thing. She’s such a bully to the male. Let’s see, I used to hate bell peppers. I still only eat green ones cooked, but don’t mind the others raw. Watermelon and cucumbers are 2 things that I have always hated.
What a fun trip!! I traveled all over the country one summer and I thought Utah was such and incredibley beautiful state. I was amazed by the scenery.
I just went on a quick road trip this weekend and I brought along some Clif bars. The White Chocolate Macadamia are my FAVORITE :). I *may* have also baked and brought some milk chocolate/peanut butter chip cookies. *maybe*
I used to not be the biggest veggie fan, but my diet is currently about 80-90% vegetarian (I still do some meat) . I go through about 1-2 Trader Joe’s bags of organic spinach a week. I can’t imagine life without fresh, raw (or cooked) vegetables (or what my body would feel like!)
Also, my sweet dog Sage (RIP) was a Rottie-Chow-Shepherd mix and would bury her bones as well, but if she thought we saw her, she would dig the bone back up and re-hide it.
I love dogs!
Kristen :)
Seriously, what the? I think you’re turning me into a dog person…?? Yours are so cute and I love the two bones in Penny’s mouth. Hilarious. Basset hounds are too cute too – I think I need one. :/
I used to hate cilantro but I actually find myself craving it now.
Rye bread is my food that I will never, ever, EVER like. When I was little we were driving somewhere and stopped for sandwiches at some shop. I saw the rye bread, thought it was chocolate and ordered a turkey sandwich on it. (No idea why I thought chocolate/turkey = good.) But as I took my first bite I still remember how revolted I was when I realized that it was rye. Ick!
your trip looked like so much fun! I haven’t gone camping in a while.
I love having veggies/hummus on the road, plus fruit is SO easy to carry. Hard boiled eggs are great for staying power if I remember them. And I always have bars with me, just in case.
OMG Penny and Randy are too damn funny! I love that they went and hid the bones! Also – Penny is TOTALLY Lando. They are the exact same dog – I’m convinced! Lando goes and does the same thing. I’ve seen her try to get her Kong and Harvey’s Kong in her mouth at the same time. PRINC-ESS!
Penelope is hilarious with those 2 bones in her mouth, hehe! Ripsey is the same way… she always steal Cooper’s bone, haha!! Too funny! ;)
Favourite snack: pretzels, nuts, triscuits
Newly acquired taste: I MIGHT, MIGHT be coming round to cottage cheese. Woah.
The pups are beyond adorable, as are you and marshall in every picture. You’re going to be married soon!! Ahhhhh. And still majorly envious that you have all that scenery on your doorstep!
Those stone houses are SO cool!! Love the picture of Penny with her two bones- both of your dogs are TOO cute.
I have never thought of mixing Greek Yogurt & muesli- I actually don’t even know what muesli is…guess I’ll have to google it :)
On road trips I love GOLDFISH!! :) Baby goldfish actually- so good!!
I also like apple slices.
New foods that I like..hmm…probably cheese & all kinds of it. I actually used to HATE cheese (CRAZY, right?!)but now I LOVE it..can’t get enough of it.
I love the pic of Penelope with two bones, so funny!
I like pb&honey sandwiches for road trips, dried fruit (especially unsweetened, unsulfured mango from TJ’s), bars (because they are easy to eat and don’t leave a mess), pop chips to get my crunchies.
I recently came around to raw tomatoes, I used to hate them.
I love how dirty your feet are after camping! I actually probably didn’t wear shoes all last weekend, hahah. They’re still dirty 3 showers later! Penny is hilarious! Greedy little pup. On road trips, I usually don’t eat much (car sickness sucks), but I strategitcally drink a ton of water so we have to stop every couple hours for a bathroom break, and I can stretch my legs a bit! Hahah, I think my dad’s getting wise to me though; it annoys him so much!
Oooh road trips are my favorite just for the snacks! I love salty things…pretzels and goldfish…and sometimes a gummy treat or two…just if I’m on a long drive and need something sweet!
i’ve been known to house an entire jar or salsa with carrots on various roadtrips hahaha ;) it’s my specialty.
for serious you are a LEGIT food packer on camping trips. if i ever ( which i prob never will hahaha) go on one you are for sure invited :)
you remind me i need to restock my xanny gumssss :)
i’ve never seen a dog bury a bone before! how cliche! i wonder if julius would do that….
1. My favorite snacks to eat on road trips are my homemade chocolate chip cookies….yum!
2. Raisins and olives. i have always wanted to eat olives but found them disgusting. However, I recently found (I don’t know what kind they are) some small olives that weren’t repulsive. Oh, growing up I HATED asparagus, but now it is one of my favorite vegetables!
LOL at the dirty feet pic.
The dogs are SO cute with their raw hides:) That reminds me I have one for Niko!
Gorgeous pictures of a gorgeous view – from a gorgeous girl!
Have a great day, Janetha!
The dogs are the cutest!
Hey, how do you format pics? I love that little collage thingy. I manually change the size of my pics and it takes forever… so I rarely do it. Any tips from the expert? :)
That is hilarious that your dogs hide their bones right away! Silly penny being a bone hog :). My taste buds have changed to enjoy cottage cheese! I used to despise it when I’d see my hubs eating it straight from the carton.
I use to absolutely HATE peas. I would even go as far to not eat chicken pot pie until my mom picked them out, all 3 of them… Now, I actually like the taste of them. I was the exact same way with raisins. They still aren’t my favorite, but I can actually stand to eat them now.
Wow, your pics are amazing!!! The dogs are SO FREAKIN’ adorable! I loved seeing them bury their bones! Our little dog always goes around in the house trying to hide his but then he caves in and eats it. :) Your trip sounds awesome and I don’t even enjoy camping! :)
haha I hate hot dogs too! i even tried those smart dogs, once and had to throw them ALL out, blehh not for me!
thats great that you like raisins, now you can have some killer oatmeal raisin cookies! they get so sweet and plump when you cook them in oatmeal too!
did yuo get the insanity dvds?!??! how do you like it?? that cardio abs one is great! since doing the program I have lost inchces on my waist and have not done ONE crunch!! i love taht…and hate crunches so it works out!
haha thats hilarious that penny took BOTH bones…what alittle hoarder…the pups are so freakin cute together! and love all of the pics!
on road trips i always have veggies (baby carrots and hummus) and also trail mix, but not that much because we all know what can happen with a huge bag of trail mix open! I liek to make my own and mix kashi go lean, nuts, dried fruit and millet puffs, so it bulks it up!!
food I used to hate…tomatoes!! and i hate pine nuts and dont think i will ever come around to those…
Janetha, I read this wedding article recently and absolutely LOVED it (some tears were shed). Thought you might enjoy it since you’re gearing up for the big day:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/29/AR2007082902031.html
My lab has been known to stuff 4……….I repeat, 4 toys/bones in her mouth at once. ULTIMATE toy brat! :) Love your pup pics they are so cute.
I feel the same about raisins! I always picked them out before. Then they became tolerable only in cooked dishes. Now…as long as they don’t overpower what I am eating, they are good. Couldn’t just eat a box of them, though.
Those doggies are so stincken cute! Thanks for sharing all the lovely photos, it is so beautiful there!
The dog pictures just made my day. :)
Oh that camping trip looks like so much fun! Makes me want to go…
I have recently started eating golden raisins, which I like 100x more than the regular ones. I’ve also changed my mind about smoothies lately! They never used to appeal to me – but now I can’t get enough. (I think it’s the FINALLY warm weather).
I love to eat trail mix and dried fruit on road trips.
Hahahaha..can’t BELIEVE the dogs buried the bones, I thought that was from cartoons – what is the deal with that? Does it…soften the bone for later? Do they dig them up and have a chew them put it back, do they forget where they put it? I’m shocked! And obviously not a dog-owner. Love it how Penelope Jane has two bones and her mouth opened so huge she almost squints…hehehe. Cute, cute – both of them.
Thanks for sharing the trip.
My favorite road trip foods are apples and trail mix :0) Strangely, I am no where NEAR the chocoholic I used to be. Nothing was too sweet for me, but now … it’s actually a little depressing haha!
Haha, those bones are funny. Murphy likes to bury his bones too. It’s sort of annoying; every time we give him a bone, he immediately wants to go in the backyard and bury it.
those pups are some characters! I want a puppy :( and I almost want to go camping, after seeing all your glorious photos. alas, I am not much of a camper.
1. dried fruit, mos def. and wasabi peas. I think road trips are the only times I ever actually eat wasabi peas, but yes, wasabi peas.
2. um, I don’t know. maybe I should do an experiment and give something a second chance?
What beautiful views! I am loving all these puppy pics BTW.
Good choice on the SuperProtein bar! I like Mojos too though–would’ve been a tough call for me.
My husband and I laughed over the dogs with their bones. So adorable and silly!
Okay okay, I really don’t want to leave a useless comment, but I have to tell you, that is by far the BEST dog photos you ever featured on this blog. Penny with the two bones?? Omg. You are making me ache for my pup back home!!
ahhh janetha! the invites look SO SO SO pretty!!!!! I can only imagine how gorgeous your wedding will be, and how stunning you will look. Plus the pups, will they be the ring bearers? :) miss you love you!
