**warning: this post is DOG PHOTO HEAVY!
hello, it is 13 minutes past midnight. what better time to ramble?
actually marshall & i just got home and my roommate is strumming the ol’ guitar strings so i won’t be going to bed any time soon.. may as well blog, right? of course right.
where did we leave off?
oh, yes, with that killer upper body workout i did on friday night. yeowch, my triceps are feeling it today! hurts so good ;) oh and thanks for the sweet comments regarding the flashback photos of me & marshall! i kind of like him.
friday night.
i told you guys that i was off to do some grilling last night at our good friend kristen & rory’s house. kristen & rory should have their own “about me” page on the blog, we go over there so often.
marshall had gone to the store and purchased everything for dinner before i got to the BBQ, so dinner was a surprise! a mighty tasty surprise, i might add.
marshall marinated chicken breasts in a jerk marinade.
on the grill it went along with sweet potato fries~
can i just tell you that sweet potatoes grilled are so freaking delicious?? try it!
marshall also made a salad with a 7 lettuce blend, red bell peppers & avocado
and he steamed some broccoli. i didn’t lift a finger! well.. maybe one finger.. and it was to snap photos of these two characters..
my plate!
marshall also picked out the best honeydew i’ve ever had.
i have said it before and i will say it again. MELON IS SO GOOD RIGHT NOW!
after dinner we all just hung out on the couch with our tongues hanging out.![]()
well.. at least one of us had our tongue out.
saturday.
race day! kristen & i signed up for the pride day 5k on a whim earlier this week.
i had a green protein shake on the way to pick kristen up this morning.
- 1/2 cup soy milk
- 1/2 cup water
- tons of ice
- lots of spinach
- 60g banana
- 30g blueberries
- 30g protein powder
- xanthan gum
it was more of a fun run than a competitive one.. so we channeled our inner gay pride and went with some rainbow attire.
marshall was a dear and accompanied us to the race. it was early. he is a babe.
the race was through city creek canyon and it was super pretty. i wish i’d taken my point & shoot camera along with me. there were dogs allowed on the run so i was wishing i had penny with me! that was the first race i’ve done where dogs were allowed. it was so fun!
kristen has been hacking up her left lung this week, so we kept to a moderate pace. it was a nice leisurely run and i had a great time taking in all the beautiful scenery!
marshall took our photo as we came up on the finish line.
and when we were done.
there was lemonade and fruit at the finish line..
we just went with oranges ;)
i have to let you in on a secret. after the race, marshall told me that he wants to run the next one i sign up for :) better hold him to it!
after the race we went to eggs in the city for breakfast.
there was a long wait, so i messed around with my camera in the mean time.
when we were finally seated.. my camera died! woops.. good thing i had my point & shoot with me as backup.. but geez, now i am a photo snob and the shots below look horrible. ha!
for breakfast i chose the egg white breakfast burrito which came on a whole wheat tortilla and was filled with bell peppers, avocado, onion, spinach, tomatoes and cheese. it came with a side of fruit.
i gave half of my burrito to marshall because he was wanting something savory but he also wanted to get the nutella crepes which he has been eyeing but never has ordered in fear of diner’s remorse. he finally went for it today. he loved them!
kristen got the fruit & yogurt parfait which looked absolutely delicious.
i was trying to decide between the parfait and the burrito.. but let’s face it: burritos always win with me.
after breakfast i went home and cleaned my car out, did ALL my laundry (and folded it!), cleaned out my closet/drawers to get rid of a bunch of clothes and started packing for the big move. eep.. i need to eliminate SO much crap!
about three hours into the process i took a break to photograph the pups, who were happily eating bones in the backyard.
and then it was back to work.. sigh.. i hate packing and cleaning! i have a long way to go still!
i eventually worked up the need for a snack..
braeburn + almond butter.
i used my eatsmart food scale to weigh out 1 TB of almond butter. um.. turns out i have been rather heavy handed with my nut butter servings in the past. food scale, you are going to make me bikini-body ready in no time!
i LOVE this almond butter! (sent to me from the lovely lauren!) the flaxseeds make the texture to live for!
i think my favorite nut butter pairing is apples+almond butter. does anyone remember when susan talked about the best nut butter pairings on her old blog?! i still haven’t tried oranges and cashew butter.
yum.
marshall came over and he took some more photos of the pups. i swear, this new camera is really a reason to take MASS AMOUNTS OF DOG PHOTOS.
the winner:
i die.
then it was dinnertime.. and we went out to eat. sooo much eating out lately! it needs to stop.
at least we went to a healthy place!
it’s tofu is a korean restaurant that i have been eying for some time. it is located in a strip mall so you would never expect it to be that great, but i think i’ve found a diamond in the rough!
instead of bread, they bring you complimentary edamame. clearly i was already a fan.
they also bring you a picture book with the menu.. so you can see photos of all their food! what? this place was made for me.
i went with the tofu salad.. doesn’t it look good?
‘twas scrumptious.
marshall went with some sort of tofu & beef stew. sorry, i forgot to take photos of the entree descriptions!
it came with all sorts of sides! rice, kimchi, potatoes, pickled veggies, cabbage.
the stew had an egg in the mix. it was really yummy, i had a few bites.
after dinner we grabbed the pups and headed to, can you guess? kristen & rory’s! we decided to take penny & randy for a walk downtown. they’d never been! it was ultra exciting for them.
randy was stoked on all the new smells! and penny was just mesmerized by all the bright lights.
first cross walk!
roses as big as marshall’s face.
cool caterpillar.
cool store window.
of course, what good is a walk if you don’t have a destination? where do you think we were headed?
shoulda known.
they had my favorite topping…
watermelon!
in addition to the watermelon, i also got pineapple on my fro yo. looking back, i should have gone all watermelon. i love the way it soaks up the fro yo!
sorry mister. none for you.
okay. it’s 1:45 AM. time to sleep!
Qs~
1. favorite nut butter pairing? like i said. apples & almond butter. preferrably a braeburn with justin’s maple almond butter, but any variation of the pair will do.
2. does your significant other (if applicable) participate in exercise with you? marshall never goes to the gym with me but he has run one race with me back in 2008. i am excited that he is going to do the next race with me! he also promised that once we are married he will start going to the gym with me. i don’t care either way (i don’t mind working out alone, i usually prefer it)~ but what irks me is that he doesn’t have to do one bit of exercise and he eats triple the amount of calories i do and has supermodel legs. boys!! ;)
xo. janetha b.
p.s. my google reader is over 500! hahahah.. i looked at that, laughed, and closed it. good night!

Your dogs are super cutttttte! Well done for the run, loving the socks! haha! x
I really really really want to adopt this pug that I found at a rescue online that’s a few towns away. I need to convince my boyfriend. Any tips? I had a pug a for ten years and he passed away and I’m ready for another pup. Help me convince him.
I love the gay pride socks! There’s a similar tofu restaurant in my town. It’s gross though and very dirty. I should move so I can eat at that place…and hang out with you!
That 5K sounds so fun! That’s awesome they let dogs run with you! And Eggs in the City….<3 <3 <3. Love that place.
Rob used to run with me a lot – we did a lot of races together (we did the Wasatch Back Relay two years in a row). Then he started law school. And now he doesn't make time to work out. :(
I love sunbutter and dried arpicots or figs. YUMMY! Um, well my husband totally out does me in the exercise department. I get to run with him during his off season but he totally laps me when he’s in season and we’re going for a long run. As he should! Its his job! haha.
Hello! You look so freaking adorable for the race! I love your socks (and the orange smiles- that reminds me so much of playing soccer as a kid!!!!!). And a dog heavy post? Do you know how excited that made me. I love both of your dogs…I want to steal them to come hang out with Frank. That tofu restaurant looks so cool. And do I spy a parfait??? Looks like a wonderful week thus far.
1. favorite nut butter pairing? carrots & nut butter- current obsession. Definitely all for the Justins. SO freaking good. Have you ever heard him speak too? Hes such a cool dude
2. does your significant other (if applicable) participate in exercise with you? Josh and I just started running together (since its really the only exercise he can do after his surgery). I am loving it <3
AAAHhh Eggs in the City is my fav breakfast place in salt lake! LOVE IT! I also love grabbing a bunch of goodies at that market nextdoor.
1. I love apples or pears with almond butter. Also as a pre-workout snack, almondbutter, toast, and banana is always yum yum yum!
2. Joey has been working out with me a lot lately and I love it. It’s good motivation to actually get my ass to the gym.
Wow, amazing weekend! From the race to the breakfast to the puppers to the froyo, everything looks so fun!! Fave nut butter pairing is Ezekiel and Smucker’s creamy natural. Can’t go wrong with a classic!! My BF runs with me sometimes, but he’s REALLY speedy, so I don’t think we’d ever be able to run a race totally “together.” Better hold Marshall to that race though- it would be so fun for both of you! Hope you have a great Sunday!
Haha I don’t get it with boys either and their eating!
I call my dad the garbage disposal because he eats everything and is super fit!
Jenna
Dogs = adorable.
I love that you eat out often (as do I!) but still make smart choices.
Almod butter owns, and since my injury I haven’t been able to do much of anything, but will start encouraging the boy soon!
Happy Sunday miss Janetha!
Ahahaha, I can’t believe you remember that post from a year ago!! (whoa – where did all that time go?) I don’t think I had this in the original post, but after an extra year to think about it, I think my favourite combo is peanut butter and honey!! My dad made PB + honey sandwiches for us every single day for lunch in elementary school. So many good childhood memories :)
Yay for 5ks in rainbow socks!! Even though I don’t currently have a boytoy, my family works out with me all the time which I lovelovelove. It’s a fun and different way to spend time together – even if it’s just going for long walks or a bike ride.
I think my favourite doggie pic is the one of Penelope Jane with her eyes closed and tongue hanging out! SO CUTE. My gosh. I love when dogs get those goofy grins. I may just have to take her too when I steal Randy ;)
Luuuuurve ya dollface!! xoxo
HEY BEAUTIFUL!
what a FUN weekend! watermelon on froyo?! that is interesting.. i LOVE froyo and LOVE watamelon.. hmmm i bet id LOVE THAT!!
you and marshall are seriously so freaking cute- i cannot get enough.
and NO my boy doesnt do exercise with me! Hes more of a meathead. i cant work out with him bc he likes to chat after he waits 4 hours to do his next set of bench presses. thats just not how i roll.
LOVE YOU!
What a wonderful weekend!! Don’t you just love not having to lift a finger and just have a nice meal prepared by your man. I will have to get Andrew to grill SP fries sometime soon for us.
Andrew doesn’t workout. But, he does play disc golf and he does a lot of walking with that, so that puts my mind at ease that he’s keeping his heart healthy.
Enjoy your Sunday!! :)
i love dog heavy posts (so does julius)
the tofu stew (soon tofu) is one of my favorite things to order in koreatown – love cracking the egg into the bubbling pot!
Great race girl, love the attire. I love puppy filled posts; those are some cute dogs. That looks like a huge egg burrito…delicious.
That is my favorite almond butter ever. Love the flax seeds. WTG on the race, love the socks!
I do like food pictures and people pictures, but I think dog pictures are my favorite. I mean, they’re so adorable why wouldn’t you photograph them all the time? I would too.
I love your dogs! Penny is so cute; she looks like a puppy! We’re remodeling our downstairs, so I feel with you on the whole endless work-and-cleaning thing. Its awful!
Awesome awesome nut butter is right! That stuff is soooooo good but my TJs has been out of stock for the past few weeks! Uh oooohhhh……
I love almond butter and apples. Or almond butter and bluebs. That’s good too. But honestly nothing beats nut butter in a yogurt/cereal mix!
No significant other at the time, but it’s definitely on the list for mine in the future ;-)
Food pictures are great…but I LOVE the puppy photos. :) So cute.
And it’s great that you had so much PRIDE. Boston is really fun during Gay Pride Weekend. So many people in town happy and celebrating. My neighborhood is very gay-friendly so it will be an exciting time!
Naturally More PB with Ezekiel bread or apple. I tried the TJ’s with flaxseed PB but I actually took it back bc it didn’t compare! Maybe the AB would be better ? My significant other was doing P90X with me but we never do the videos together lol. We lifted weights together 4 years ago when we were newly engaged. But I wasn’t so into my workouts then…these days we would prob kill each other . He isn’t near as “into” working out as me ;)
“p.s. my google reader is over 500! hahahah.. i looked at that, laughed, and closed it. good night!” <- this is why you are awesome. I mean, one of many reasons. How freaking cool are your socks?!!!! LOVES. Um, all those breakfasts look amazing. Nutella crepes are amazing…I ate them in Paris, but your burrito sounds awesome. I've never had a breakfast burrito!
I love the name of the tofu restaurant!
1. favorite nut butter pairing? I am digging blueberries and almond butter right now. In cinnamon vanilla protein oats. Though bananas and almond butter, or apples (braeburn, always) with peanut butter. Hmm. I haven't tried that many fruit/nut butter combos!
2. does your significant other (if applicable) participate in exercise with you? I am single :( Any hot British readers you want to hook me up with?
Love ya fun run socks! I love peanut butter with anything! Its great with cumber in a sarni and apples ooooo yum! I’m single but when i find Mr Right I hope he will like to work out too x
IF i had a sig other they would FOR SURE participate in exercise activities with me haha its a part of my list of requirements (it’s long and probably one of the many reasons i’m ridin solo hahaha)
love your pups and i am for sure grilling my next carrot fries! deej will be so happy that i’m not turning on the stove in this heat hahahah
did you just put them on tin foil??
My hubby goes to the gym with me most days (I go every day). It’s a nice thing to do together and gets us out of the house. On the way home we discuss what we watched/read/listened to during the gym. ;)
Ok so all the LOVE that i have been feeling from you the past few days is just off the charts..and thank you honey!
GAY PRIDE. I love Pride Parades and fests. San Diego has one of the top 3 largest one’s in the country and I love to get my inner drag queen going and dance to some ymca and party with the best of the boys who are prettier than most girls. omg they are hot! Anyway i have pics on my FB of last yr’s pride parade.
this yr’s is coming up in just a month and we live on the parade route! so excited!
xoxo
So I’m convinced that Utah has the best names of restaurants after reading about Spoon Me and Eggs in The City, I love it.
But I love the puppy pics even more! I just want to scoop them up and cuddle with both of them, so adorable.
Love the rainbow wear for the race!
What a fun night! It looks like you guys have so many awesome restaurants around you. Glad the dogs had fun! =) Just got a new puppy today and I cant wait until he is old enough to bring him on walks!
I just got a food scale and also noticed that my measurements were more than a little bit generous haha.
Your town looks so cute! Makes me want to visit Utah :-)
I am on a peanut butter/almond butter KICK so I’m all about the nut butter and toast or oats or bananas these days. Or PB + honey + spoon. yeah um, no bikini for me this summer, kthanks.
Mitch sorta works out with me but he doesn’t…like sometimes, we’ll see each other at the gym, and we trade workout tips, and we’re both running the same half marathon in August, but he’s a faster runner and lifts differently than I do, so we don’t do the same things. Does that make sense? We also fantasize about taking up tennis together…ah, one day.
Dog photo heavy posts are always welcome in my book!
1. I really love pretzels and PB, bloobs and almond butter, and cottage cheese and sunflower butter.
2. Seth and I actually met at the gym, so we obviously work out together a lot. We don’t do so well when we run outside together though–completely different pacing and running styles!
yeah that picture is a winner alright. :-D
Brent and I workout sometimes together. I’ve been teaching him kettlebells and he really likes them.
WARNING?? I love dog-photo heavy posts! So darn cute :D
I love bananas with almond butter.
And Nick doesn’t do races. But he says MAYBE he’ll try a 5k. And we do workout together from time to time- running, walking, yoga and he trains me sometimes!
xo
K
ahha ambyae i should weigh out my nut butter! too many blts!
favorite nut butter pairing??? tie between crunchy peanut butter and banana or banana and almond butter!
i don’t have a significant other, but most of the dated i’ve been on have been very..active. (hiking, running, crossfit)
i think i’d like it if my significant other was very active too.
That picture of penelope is CLASSIC!!
Um, any post that has a too-many-dog-photos disclaimer is A DREAM for me. I want to steal your fur babies! But that would be so mean. They’re just so cute I want to squeeze em!
While reading this, I was inspired to grab a Granny Smith and douse it with cinnamon and a drizz of peanut butter. Definitely a fave.
I exercise alone, but he’s surprised me at the gym before. And we’ve played racquetball together! Loved it.
One more post I’m commenting on…. :D
