in meals,moves

…is the 121st day of the year.

wow. that means the year is already 1/3rd over! can you believe how fast time is flying?!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
…is 77 days before my wedding.
holy crud. don’t remind me! i feel so unprepared!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

…is exactly one month until i enter my late twenties.

image

AKA exactly one month until my birthday. marshall and i have discussed this break down on several occasions, and we decided this is how it is:

  • 20, 21, 22 & 23= early twenties
  • 24, 25 & 26= mid twenties
  • 27, 28 & 29= late twenties

sigh. it’s all downhill from here ;)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
…is national chocolate parfait day.
image
i wish i had some chocolate vitatops because i would totally celebrate with a parfait a la k! i used to eat those so often.. i looked in the archives and found an old chocolate vita parfait photo to rep the national food holiday :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

…is day one of my wakeup call challenge.

image

if you haven’t read about it yet, check out the challenge page i made for it~ and join in! it is going to be a lot of fun and you could win a super sweet prize :)

this morning i started with just 5 minutes of plyo for the first day of my challenge:

  • 1 minute of butt kicks
  • 1 minute of jumping jacks
  • 1 minute of belt kicks
  • 1 minute of high knees
  • 1 minute of downhill ski jumps

my heart was pumping. it is really hard for me to get going in the morning and i can see that this challenge is definitely going to be.. well.. a challenge! but that is why i am doing it. hell or high water (what does that phrase even mean?) i WILL become a morning person :)

…is the only day that the jazz have off between WINNING THE QUARTER FINALS last night and game 1 of the semi finals (against the lakers) tomorrow.

IMG_0799

we went to the game last night and we were on THE VERY BACK ROW. like.. the very, very, very back row. it was so fun. and it didn’t matter that we were at the back. it was awesome.

IMG_0804

we put on our “game faces”. fierce.

IMG_0795

and we won :)

 IMG_0798

go jazz!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
…is saturday! which means a more time consuming, leisurely brunch:
IMG_0841
i saw jessica talking about omelets today so i had to make one! this was just 4 egg whites+1 whole egg+cheddar cheese. topped it off with some reduced sugar ketchup. mmm.. cheeeese.
 IMG_0840
i also had a small bowl of kashi go lean~
IMG_0837
i love free day because my meals can be a tad carb heavy and i don’t have to worry about it. although, looking back on brunch, this was a pretty balanced carb/protein ratio meal.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

…is the first day of the following national food months:

  • national asparagus month
  • national barbecue month
  • national chocolate custard month
  • national egg month
  • national gazpacho aficionado month
  • national hamburger month
  • national salad month
  • national salsa month
  • national strawberry month

now you know.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
…is a good day to drink THREE mugs of coffee the size of my head.
IMG_0842
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

…is day one of national bike month. but my bike is at marshall’s.. and it was raining all day. so i went to the gym for my cardio!

my physical therapist told me i needed to take more time warming up before i dive right into my workouts. so i started with a 7 minute warmup instead of the usual 2 minute one.

elliptical:

minute # resistance level speed range (MPH)
0-1 1 5.0-6.0
1-2 2 6.0-7.0
2-3 3 6.0-7.0
3-4 4 7.0-8.0

5-6 6 7.0-8.0
6-7 7 7.0-8.0
7-8 8 7.0-8.0
8-9 10 7.0-8.0
9-10 12 7.5-8.5

22-23 14 7.5-8.5
23-24 8 12.0-13.0
24-25 6 6.0-7.0

total time: 25 minutes, total distance: 3.2 miles

i couldn’t help myself and i ran 1 mile on the treadmill after this so i could add to my mileage goal~

minute # speed (MPH) incline
0-0:30 5.0 2.0
0:30-1:00 5.5 2.0
1:00-1:30 6.0 2.0

8:00-8:30 9.0 2.0

1 mile in just under 8 min 20 seconds

so my total workout today was just over 30 minutes~ i burned around 300 calories. not bad.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
…is FREE DAY, which means dinner out with friends :)
IMG_0843
we went to canella’s which is an italian restaurant in downtown SLC.  our friends go all the time but marshall and i had never been.  EVERYTHING on the menu looked super delicious, but it was pouring down rain and i was really in the mood for soup.  my friend kristen told me that their side salad was really good because it contained garbanzo beans. um, sold!
i went with the side salad & vegetable minestrone soup.. both of which contained garbanzos, actually! super double score.IMG_0852
the house dressing, which i got on the side (because i hate soggy lettuce!) was incredibly flavorful. it was a unique blend of italian dressing and bleu cheese. i loved this salad because it had so many components! iceberg and romaine lettuces, cucumber, grape tomato, beets, beans and cheese. and a super teeny pepperocini! cute.
IMG_0854
this vegetable minestrone soup was just what i needed to warm up.
IMG_0857
it was packed with all kinds of veggies, noodles and beans!
IMG_0860
we were all pretty full after our meals, but then kristen told us that their tiramisu was one of the best she’s had~ and she doesn’t even love tiramisu! well, you know who DOES love tiramisu? marshall. he is even having a tiramisu groom’s cake. so naturally we ordered a piece and i helped myself to quite a few bites.
IMG_0861
hey, it’s no chocolate parfait, but it’ll do ;)
IMG_0863
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Qs~

1. what national month of may food holiday (listed above) are you most excited about? wow. that is hard. i guess i will have to pick egg since i love eggs.. from my head down to my legs. but i am pretty stoked on the strawberry shenanigans that go on in may as well!

2. let’s pretend you always order dessert. what is your favorite dessert to order at a restaurant? i really never do order dessert.. i am always SO full after eating dinner! but marshall likes tiramisu so i usually end up with a few bites of that. but since we are pretending, and i am not so dang full and have room for dessert, my favorite dessert to order is some sort of fruity cobbler or crisp. peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream? yes please!

happy may! hope everyone has a great sunday!

Run Sarah May 2, 2010 at 12:45 am

Egg or salsa! I have become and egg addict lately – why I am not a vegan mainly!! I love getting a chocolate, super rich dessert to share at restaurants.

MelissaNibbles May 2, 2010 at 3:17 am

Strawberries are for me! I love them and could eat cases of them at a time.
I love cookie dough cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory with EXTRA EXTRA whipped cream. Actually, my dinner date could have the cheesecake, I’d probably just eat the whipped cream.

lindsay May 2, 2010 at 3:21 am

Oh girl, I am right there with ya…..cobbler and ice cream!!

Diana May 2, 2010 at 3:42 am

Seriously, time is going by SO FAST this year.
My fav dessert to order at a restaurant… We have a cake here in Portugal called Bolo de bolacha which basically translates as Cookie cake (ahah) Here’s a pic http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4A1wQrpob4k/SJQ2I32IDuI/AAAAAAAAByc/zD4ZZzKlV0E/s400/Bolo+de+bolacha2.JPG

I order it sometimes. Or a crepe with fruit and ice cream. :P Or nothing ahah I rarely order dessert but when I do… yeah, it’s good. :)
Have a good day Janetha!

mayapamela May 2, 2010 at 4:13 am

Did I ever tell you that I love the new layout? Because it’s true!

At a restaurant I would order something really chocolatey and intense, like a four layer chocolate cake with fudgry frosting and chocolate chips on the side. With ice cream. Are we also pretending it doesn’t have calories?

I just looked up national food holidays for May. I can’t wait to celebrate eat what you want day! Course, in a healthy way, that should be every day. May 25th is mky birthday and it’s National Brown Bag day. How boring.

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) May 2, 2010 at 4:57 am

What a fun night!

Those are some great food holidays! I would have to say National egg month, salsa month and strawberry month! But not together. ha.

I almost never order dessert either! But I do LOVE tiramisu and will gladly share it, or something with ice cream, with someone. Strawberry shortcake is a good one too. :)

april May 2, 2010 at 6:27 am

Woohoo for DOMS!! Lately my triceps have been so sore.. I’m thinking it’s those darn overhead tricep extensions!!

And would you believe I’ve never had tiramisu??

simplyshaka May 2, 2010 at 6:48 am

Love this post with all the numbers. However I hate numbers since I work with them on a daily basis so not sure why I enjoyed it so much but I did. Umm ok hopefully I am making sense.

I love the fact that Marshall is having a Tiramisu groom cake thats just awesome. And your game faces are awesome as well! And the late twenties are actually kinda fun. But dare I say …. I am having more fun in my 30’s than I did in my late twenties so I think you will be just fine :)

I am bummed I missed Parfait day but will definitely celebrate the others. I would say I am most excited for egg, salad and salsa :)

Susan May 2, 2010 at 6:51 am

Hey girl heyyyy

I want to wish you a big CONGRATS on your healthbuzz opportunity! Gosh, you are having so much good stuff going on right now I love it! And I totally dig your challenge. If I was able to do the workout I would totes jump on the bandwagon bc I am a morning person!

I’m also glad I have you to tell me it’s national EGG month! When I go home next week, homegirl is FEASTING!!!! Love me some huevos!

I’m with you – I rarely order dessert. I’d rather do the huge entree! But I’d guess my fave dessert would be a cappuccino with biscotti. Or cobbler. Love cobbler.

Errign May 2, 2010 at 7:11 am

Not going to lie – I’m pretty excited about a lot of those foods for the month – asparagus, bbq, hamburger, salsa, salad, strawberries, etc!

What does your tattoo say?

Michelle May 2, 2010 at 7:11 am

Congrats on the Jazz winning! When I was growing up, our house was a “basketball” house so I understand the excitement!

National food month? How can I pick one? Salad, strawberry, egg and salsa all jump out at me – prob will pick salsa :-)

One dessert? Something warm like a brownie, cookie or cobbler with some vanilla bean ice cream on top definitely!

Heather (Where's the Beach) May 2, 2010 at 7:40 am

It’s a toss up, but I’m excited that it’s strawberry and salsa month. Maybe some strawberry salsa?

homecookedem May 2, 2010 at 7:54 am

OH! Definitely national salsa month!! I LOVE salsa so much!!

Any dessert with chocolate is what I would order.

Janetha, we’re almost the same exact age! I’ll be 27 on June 28. Let’s enjoy these mid twenties while we can!!!! Scary to think I’ll be in my LATE twenties, omg!! ;)

Mary @ What's Cookin' with Mary May 2, 2010 at 8:15 am

1) nat’l strawberry month!
2) crem brulee (spelling?) YUM

elaine May 2, 2010 at 8:16 am

hey janetha! i’ve been reading your blog for awhile now and i decided to comment this time ;)

i’d have to say national egg month! eggs are so versatile–scrambled, omelette, frittata, hard-boiled, poached, fried. i always eat eggs when i’m just lazy to cook dinner!
and desserts…wow, tough decision! i love tiramisu, but i would pick WARM apple/peach/berry crisp or crumble with vanilla ice cream. yum!

Erica May 2, 2010 at 8:25 am

WOW! So many fun national food months. I think its a toss up between national salsa and salad months that I’m most excited for. Dinner out looks awesome. I love when restaurants put fun items in their salads (vs just the traditional stuff). I’m not much of a dessert girl either, but I like to go out for frozen yogurt or get a nice coffee beverage.

ellie May 2, 2010 at 8:27 am

LOVE your game faces!!!!! I know I keep saying this, but you guys make such a cute couple. Yay for parfaits!!!! I have 2 vita tops left, but all have been used for parfaits and have all been amazing. Good stuff. That soup looks REALLY good- I am not a soup person, but throw some beans and pasta in there and I love it.

1. what national month of may food holiday (listed above) are you most excited about? Um, they all sound pretty amazing to me. especially asparagus (YUM) and salads. Oh, and burgers of course! And BBQ!

2. let’s pretend you always order dessert. what is your favorite dessert to order at a restaurant? B.A.N.O.F.F.E.E. P.I.E. Hands down. Best food ever created.

lisaou11 May 2, 2010 at 8:33 am

I’ve still got about a year and a half of my mid twenties! hoo-rah!!

1. National BBQ month! yum!!

2. Hmm—cheese cake!

Carbzilla May 2, 2010 at 9:02 am

I haven’t ordered dessert in 4ever but it would be creme brulee or, even better, chocolate creme brulee!

Gabriela @ Fro-Yo Lover May 2, 2010 at 9:04 am

YAY for all the upcoming exciting events!
:)
Have a great Sunday, Janetha!
Brazilian XOXO´s,
Gabriela

ksgoodeats May 2, 2010 at 9:17 am

Darn it! I should have had a parfait yesterday ;) Thanks for the shout out! Tiramisu is basically the only dessert I’ll eat – yours looks fabu!

BBQ MONTH!! Barbecued veggies are amaze!

Jamie (BeautyeandtheBeef) May 2, 2010 at 9:35 am

If I get dessert it’s either something involving peanut butter and chocolate or a hot apple crisp with ice cream. Now I want both!

Ildie May 2, 2010 at 9:47 am

You two are so cute!!

1. Oh my ham….burger that is. I would have to pick hamburger. I never have them. I may have to whip up some healthy, low fat, turkey alternative this month to celebrate accordingly. Maybe I’ll splurge on that while on vacation. TWO WEEKS AND COUNTING BABY!! YAY!

2. I would have to say some sort of decadent chocolate lava cake with vanilla bean ice cream on the side. I love stabbing it and letting hot chocolate just ooze out. I can’t think of anything better than a spoonful of cake, melted chocolate and cold ice cream. MMMMM!

hundredtenpounds May 2, 2010 at 10:03 am

CHEESECAKE! I always want cheesecake. :)

Katrina J May 2, 2010 at 11:01 am

I’m pretty dang stoked on the whole asspergrass (what I’ve always called it!) month ordeal. I’m totally game with that!!!

When I really want some dessert…I order either a NY Cheese Cake, or…dun dun dun….a hot brownie covered in vanilla ice cream deliciousness topped with nothing other than ooey gooey chocolate syrup. Can you say YUM!? And please add this directly to my butt?! haha!

Canella’s is my FAVORITE italian joint here in Down Town SLC. I go there all the time for their salads!! On one of your next cheat days, may I highly suggest the Turkey Tetrazini or the Clam linguini….absoluetly AMAZING! Seriously. No lies! haha!!

I am making your protien pancakes today!! And getting a massage. It’s going to be a great Sunday! I hope yours is as well! <3

lowandbhold May 2, 2010 at 11:55 am

Gosh, 1/3 of the way over! That’s nuts!

Yay for it almost being your birthday. You’ll make late twenties the best years ever!

I sadly forgot about the challenge yesterday morning. I had to get up at 6 a.m. to get to the gym before leaving for my hometown for the day and being up that early on a weekend day made my mind a little slow. But today I remembered and the jolt of energy was great! I ended up cleaning for like an hour completely unexpectedly!

Alyson @ Nourished Fitness May 2, 2010 at 12:25 pm

I would like to vote for both national salad and chocolate custard month! As for dessert, I’m like you, even though I love chocolate, at a restaurant I usually go with Apple Crisp or Creme Brulee or something like that..

Lauren @ Eater not a runner May 2, 2010 at 2:05 pm

I’ve gotta say hamburger month. Sometimes you just need a good hamburger!!

I’m a sucker for brownie sundaes, I can’t help it :-)

Lauren May 2, 2010 at 2:39 pm

Wow, 77 days?!?!?! It’s going to be here before you know it, but don’t worry, I am sure you are more prepared than you think.

What a great weekend. I love tiramisu and if someones tells me it’s awesome and I must get it, I will! How can you pass up a suggestion like that?!?! :)

Glad you had a great weekend and I hope you enjoy your night babe! :)

jess May 2, 2010 at 2:55 pm

salad month!! heck yes. perfect for the summer days :)

btw, idk if youve addressed this before but i remember you used to say a bad habit was snacking/picking at things? just wondering, did you break this habit and if so how did you? id love advice if its possible..

lovely post as always girl! enjoy the rest of your weekend ;)

Mara @ What's For Dinner? May 2, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Totally barbecue and hamburger… I’ll have to do both :)

julie May 2, 2010 at 3:02 pm

bahhhhhh according to yours and marshmellows conclusions may means i will officially be in my “mid twenties” gross. hahaha sorry

mmm i want eggs now! i’m thinking that’s going to have to be tomorrow nights dinner fooooooo shoooooooo.

BroccoliHut May 2, 2010 at 3:18 pm

Yay for asparagus month!!
I pretty much never order dessert either, but I’ve sample some pretty awesome sorbet flavors in my experience. Coconut is my favorite:)

Jenny May 2, 2010 at 3:36 pm

yo May offish rocks. Dare you to make a salad with chocolate custard, strawberries, asparagus (um that word is really tough to spell), and bbq sauce to celebrate. dooooooo it.

ahh 77 days! you must be OOZING with excitement!!!! I know I am for you!

luhhhhhyou, J!

Katie May 2, 2010 at 3:50 pm

1. national strawberry month…LOVE STRAWBERRIES FROZEN!
2. anything with peanut butter! :)

Whole Body Love May 2, 2010 at 5:12 pm

I love strawberries so naturally that’s the “food of the month” that I am pumped about ! I used to order black tie mousse cake once in while. It’s good if you are in the mood for a chocolate fix! The “English Pub” that I used to work at served a HUGE chocolate chip cookie that was served warm in the ramkin in which it had been baked. It was topped with vanilla ice cream and LOTS of chocolate syrup!

Sara @ Fro Yo Foodie May 2, 2010 at 5:44 pm

I thought I hated gazpacho until I spent a summer in Spain, but now I LOVE it! I will be celebrating accordingly this month. :)

As for desserts…I have a weakness for cheesecake!

actorsdiet May 2, 2010 at 6:30 pm

i like ordering things with the words “warm” and “chocolate” in them for dessert!

Paige (Running Around Normal) May 2, 2010 at 6:32 pm

What an exciting time for you! I can’t believe it’s almost May either. Yikes.. Where did April go exactly?!
I had the best strawberries today so I’m gonna go with Strawberry month. Mmm..

For dessert? Most anything chocolate ;)

Kate May 2, 2010 at 6:38 pm

LOVE the game faces. I want one. I need to work on mine.

Dessert: Chocolate cake. Really. And not just because my blog features it. But because I suddenly started craving it. I never used to. In fact, I never even wanted dessert before. Something’s happening. The world is changing…

Happy May!

paijery May 2, 2010 at 7:55 pm

heh heh your game faces are too cute!

I never really thought of where I was in my 20s before…mid 20s and halfway to 30!! EEEEEK!

I’m so excited about bbq month because then the boyf does all the cooking :)

I love fruit salads for dessert!!

Hope you have a great week! xx

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) May 2, 2010 at 9:43 pm

not down hill after your 20s! Just gettin’ better with age. That’s how i try to look at it :) Cuz I am alot older than you but didnt think I was LOL

your omlette looks PERFECT. Love ketchup. Actually, i could just drink ketchup i think.

Oh wait, i drank at least as much coffee as you did :)

Naomi (onefitfoodie) May 3, 2010 at 3:24 am

haha i love the ‘lets pretend you always order dessert at restaurants’ yeah I usually am so full too and if I DO want dessert its always fro yo so we will go somewhere else for that! BUT in a perfect world…a brownie sundae. bnanana split or key lime pie!!! I love desserts :)

that omelet looks so good! i may just have some eggs for dinner tonight!! and I have my reduced sugar ketchup too SCORE!!!

I bet I could down some coffee in that mug in a scary amount of time…i am addicted. period

your wedding is SO SO SO soon! ahh I am so freakin excited for you!!

xoxoxox

Karin May 3, 2010 at 5:11 am

You two are so adorable! But could you spot the ball from up there? I would have constantly bothered my friends with “what?? I don’t see it! Where is it??”.. haha.

I never eat desserts at restaurants either but I really like crème brûlée or simple vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate sauce. mmmmm!

hayleycepeda May 3, 2010 at 5:26 am

I was just saying the other day that I haven’t had any pregnancy cravings lately, but I now realize I’ve been eating a lot of eggs…so I’d probably have to go with egg day, too! And strawberries…I’m really diggin’ the berries at the moment. :)

You’re still a spring chicken Janetha! I’m going to enjoy this last year in my 20s as much as I can…but I still think 30s will be pretty cool. “Older and wiser” right? Heheh

Susan May 3, 2010 at 5:38 am

Bee-day June 1st?? Noted :) I have to agree with the age breakdown, but that makes me sad that I’ve now ventured into my mid-twenties. After 22, the ages just started to blend together. Sometimes I have to think for a beat to remember I’m 24!! When did that happen??

Those basketball pics are awesome! I love how you can see the whole bowl behind you. Did you get a nosebleed? :P

1. Egg and salad month for sure. I will likely combine the two several times!

2. You’re right, I never order dessert. I convince the person I’m with to order dessert and then steal a few bites ;) My favourite is PIE. Chocolate or peanut butter pie. Mmmm…

Therese May 3, 2010 at 6:38 am

You have done so well keeping your free days under wraps! I guess a looming wedding will do that to a girl ;)

Sadly our Chicago Bulls crapped out in the first round of the playoffs…although since I live in Orlando I guess I should pull just a little for the Magic!

National egg day!!!!!!! I heart eggs with all my being :)

I pretty much never order dessert at a restaurant…like never…but if I did I guess I would say some form of cheesecake?

Angharad May 3, 2010 at 7:41 am

You are cuteness on wheels. 27 soon! I don’t want late twenties. One more year of the “mids” for me. That tiramisu looks amazing lady.
I am most pumped up for asparagus month and salad month. Mainly because I just bought a ridiculous like 4 pound box of salad mix. Yummmm.
Dessert. I do not need persuading. Carrot cake is my sweet of choice but at a restaurant I’ll go for something different if it’s there, like pie, or cheesecake or bread pudding or…yeah. I like dessert.

Love you! xx

freckledfoodie May 3, 2010 at 8:55 am

just catching up on your weekend! looks like a GREAT time!

i <3 the houndstooth designs!! totally you.

i'm thinkin' egg day! they're so versatile. you can slip them into oats, scramble up an omelett, hard boil them, or bake with them!

as for dessert? i like something cleansing like sorbet or jello! fruit is a good one, too!
