what a wednesday.

by Janetha on March 10, 2010

in meals,moves

i love alliteration. so sue me.

today was a day.. and then some. i am going to try to plaster a smile on my face and type a fun filled post, because blogging makes me happy :)

great to hear all of your favorite granolas~ sounds like nature’s path is popular among all of you. also, about half of you are all about the sugar free foods and the other half say exnay on the ugarshay reefay..  yeah, that was my feeble attempt at pig latin. did i say it right? i never know…

meals

this morning started out with a waffle wednesday celebration.. i wouldn’t have it any other way.

5 egg whites + reduced sugar ketchup & 1 flax waffle + mighty maple peanut butter~

IMG_7467

the egg whites were simple.. i sprayed a shallow bowl with olive oil cooking spray, added the egg whites and then microwaved on half power for five minutes.

IMG_7462IMG_7464

protein packed.

when pairing savory and sweet things at breakfast, i like to eat the savory first and then the sweet… call it “breakfast dessert” if you will :)

IMG_7465IMG_7466

insert lots of work here. blah blah blah, sooo excited it’s almost the weekend!

up next..

IMG_7469

what’s the white thing on the left you ask? well, let’s talk about a new product!

IMG_7470

i picked up this skyr.is icelandic yogurt at whole foods the other day.  it was a whopping $3 for this measley 6 oz container.. but i am a sucker for new brands.. what can ya do?

the stats were fantastic and kind of made up for the high price tag. but all of my cheaper greek yogurt favorites have similar stats. noted.

IMG_7471IMG_7472

upon opening it, i was impressed by how creamy it looked before i even stirred it…

IMG_7473

and once i stirred it i was suuuper into the creamy factor! (TWSS)

IMG_7475

i paired it with my favorite flakes~ nature’s path heirloom flakes:    IMG_7474

the verdict??

well.. it was delicious. it was creamy and thick and tart and fabulous. but was it worth $3 for 6 oz? (that is 50 cents an ounce for you non-mathematicians)

not so much.

i may buy it again if it goes on sale, but i think i will stick to oikos.  much better value! i am happy that i tried this new brand and now i know. and so do you.

it took me a long time to eat this because i was constantly answering questions at work.. well, trying to answer them. it is hard when you are handling someone else’s job while they are on vacay and you don’t know what to tell anyone!  oh well, i did the best i could.

later in the afternoon, i was in the sales office working on setting up some emails for the sales reps.  one of the guys had eaten mexican and i was going on about how rank it smelled in the room.

well, i soon learned i shouldn’t have been complaining because one of my bosses proceeded to pick up a can of "bodman $$$” body spray (that was in there as a gag gift from christmas) and sprayed it ALL OVER ME. all over my hair.. and my mouth was open (i was talking) and it got in my mouth!!

image

blech!! i was sooo annoyed. and i immediately got one of those headaches you get when a scent is super overpowering.. you know the one.

so that was lame.

moving on.

this afternoon consisted of more secret shenanigans.

after such shenanigans went down, i ate a new-to-me flavor on luna bar:

 IMG_7499IMG_7500

i didn’t hate it.

moves

today was a HIIT day.. i decided to go back to my roots and do a body for life style HIIT:

image

treadmill:

minute # speed (MPH)
0-2 6.0 warmup
2-3 6.5

and then as i was changing the speed for the next minute, my hand caught my headphone cords and my ipod went flying to the ground! it took a tumble on the treadmill and i hit the emergency stop button. EEEEK!

well, that was embarrassing.  hmm, but not really, because it takes a lot for me to actually be embarrassed.

i started over:

minute # speed (MPH)
0-2 6.0 warmup
2-3 6.5
3-4 7.0
4-5 7.5
5-6 8.0
6-7 6.5
7-8 7.0
8-9 7.5
9-10 8.0
10-11 6.5
11-12 7.0
12-13 7.5
13-14 8.0
14-15 6.5
15-16 7.0
16-17 7.5
17-18 8.0
18-19 9.0
19-20 4.0 cooldown

and THEN.. because i am a complete numbers geek and was wondering about how far i went in the first little part before my mishap, i decided to repeat it so i could have an accurate count toward my mileage goal.  i actually had planned to make a mental note of how far it was when i started over the first time.. but of course, around minute 5 i realized that i forgot to make a note of it.. and so yeah, i did it again.

minute # speed (MPH)
0-2 6.0 warmup
2-3 6.5

the end. when all was said and done, it was a 26 minute workout and i ran 2.95 miles. not too shabby!

meals

i got home and was going to make chicken tenders & cheetahs but my roomie was playing chef!

IMG_7503

he made an awesome four bean salad with roasted red peppers along with a delicious dressing~

IMG_7501

the four beans were garbanzo (my fave), black, white and kidney.

the dressing consisted of a vinegar TRIFECTA (rice wine, balsamic & apple cider) along with olive oil, honey, red onion, salt and pepper. it was fanfreakingtastic.

IMG_7504

he also made a glorious green salad.  everyone ate theirs with tempeh (roomie’s gf is vegan) but i was craving some chicken so i baked three chicken tenders, diced them and served them atop the bean and green salad!

IMG_7512IMG_7510IMG_7511

wow. this was so, so good. and what’s even better: it was healthy AND packed with tons of protein and fiber.

such a simple recipe and it took minutes to throw together~ yet it tasted straight out of a restaurant. thanks drew!!

and now we are up to speed :)

what else can i tell you about?

wedding update.

i found my bridesmaid dresses! wanna see?

image

and they will wear them with these:

image

i will show you what the guys will be wearing in another post, since this one is pretty long.

that’s enough out of me! i am just happy we are now onto the tail end of the work week, hope you are all hanging in there!

Qs~

1. have you ever had an embarrassing gym/running/workout experience? do tell!

2. favorite kind of vinegar? i love vinegars so much. balsamic has to be my favorite, which i am sure will get the most votes, but i also really love red wine vinegar.

The Foodie Diaries March 10, 2010 at 9:58 pm

oooh im so glad you wrote about that yogurt bc i aaaaalmost bought it in WF this weekend. way too much dinero, but, like you, im a sucker for new brands. i think ill save my splurges for fage bc i feel like fage 2% probably is just as thick as that, no?

love the morado (purple en espanol :)) for the bridesmides!

Paula March 10, 2010 at 10:07 pm

Nice bean salad! My Mom used to make it with green beans, kidney and garbonzo. One of my favorites. Nothing really crazy at the gym has happened to me. My face gets really red when I work out though… Sucks! People stare and I try to ignore it but it’s hard sometimes

Patricia Braithwaite March 10, 2010 at 10:15 pm

Love the dresses you chose. Glad you found something you really liked. I took your advice and tried the new dannon greek yogurt and I think it’s really good. It’s nice to be able to pick it up in a grocery store close to home.

rollerkoesterrun March 10, 2010 at 10:20 pm

BOD*MAN! HAHA! I remember those super corny commercials. We had similar experiences today because for me it was the guy in the gym with the over-powering cologne that killed me.

I like the bridesmaid dress! I’ve been looking for something similar to the #1 dress you posted before, but can’t find it~ ugh.

As for bad treadmill experience- I’ve done what you did a number of times! I don’t get that embarrassed either, okay maybe just for a second.

Jenn N. March 10, 2010 at 10:21 pm

Ha!!! I love alliteration TOOO. So much it’s ridiculous. My last name starts with an N so I named my kids Nathanael, Noah, Nigel (4 legged kid), and Nico (another 4 legged kids.) Yeah ridiculous huh?

That brides made dress is lovely!!!!

Once at the gym I choked on my water (probably acting like a badass ;-) ) and I spit it out everywhere.

I love Balsamic but I also love Rice Vinegar. I drink apple cider vinegar but I don’t love it.

closet365project March 10, 2010 at 10:26 pm

I love the dresses. Very pretty!

Well forgetting my shoes was plenty embarassing but I think the worst was dropping a weight while trying to rerack it. It was only an 8 pounder too. Embarassing!

I’m not a vinegar fan at all but I recently dicovered Rice Wine Vinegar. We love putting a dash in batches of brown rice. Mmm.

ida March 10, 2010 at 10:27 pm

hot dresses!!

lame about the body spray in the face:(

nic - the auspicious squirrel March 10, 2010 at 10:36 pm

Great dress, is that the purple? Such a lovely purple! I totally love that they will be wearing flip-flops!

Tay March 10, 2010 at 10:41 pm

EEEE love the dress!!! Beautiful. I love that cut. I don’t really know all about vinegars, but apple cider vinegar is good! Oh I know. I once got an orangy flavored one from TJ’s and now THAT was good.

Run Sarah March 10, 2010 at 11:27 pm

I loveee the dresses you chose! That bean salad looks amazing, especially paired with tempeh. Major yum.

actorsdiet March 10, 2010 at 11:32 pm

beautiful dresses! and i am a fan of comfy footwear…

Stef @ moretolifethanlettuce March 11, 2010 at 12:14 am

i want to be your bridesmaid simply to wear that beautiful dress and comfy flip flops!!

ellie March 11, 2010 at 12:16 am

sorry about your bum day :( LOVE the dresses though! I have seen that Icelandic yogurt and wanted to try it but was waiting for it to be on offer. That day has yet to come!

Dinner looks fab- I love that all your friends/roomies like cooking :) My old roomies didn’t make anything except scrambled eggs and toast.

Fave vinegar- balsamic. I also like raspberry…yum.

Hillary March 11, 2010 at 12:27 am

You’ve got me hooked on Waffle Wedn! Check out today’s post : )

I love vinegar…most of my fam does too, in fact. I like sweetened rice vinegar + EVOO on my salads – yum.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) March 11, 2010 at 12:34 am

embarrassing workout story. they all include bodily functions of some variety and not comment appropriate :)….

the bridesmaid dresses and the flips are aweome, I love them!!!!!!

Karin March 11, 2010 at 2:31 am

Sorry to hear that you didn’t have a super fantastic day..

Haha the exact same thing happened to me at the gym too. Of course everyone had to stare.

Your bridesmaid dresses look so gorgeous – I love the cut!

I love real (but sadly expensive) balsamic vinegar. Nothing can beat that.

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is March 11, 2010 at 4:30 am

I LOVE the bridesmaid dress! So cute!

I am a huge vinegar lover too. I don’t put anything on my salads but vinegar. My favorite is pear infused white vinegar. I also love fig infused!

Christine March 11, 2010 at 5:08 am

Love the dresses and matching “zorries” (betcha never heard them called that before! I wanted to come and pop whoever sprayed you. I get those instant headaches from smells and also from a glare off cars in the parking lot. Everyone knows when I close the blinds at work what is happening. Please post your roomies recipe for the dressing. It sounds wonderful.

healthyappletite March 11, 2010 at 5:12 am

i wish we had luna bars in the uk!! that chicken and salsa looks yummy!! and the birdesmaid dresses are cute!! where are you getting married? xxxxxxxxx

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) March 11, 2010 at 6:10 am

I love the dress, and the colour!!!

And the meal your roomie made looks delish =D

I constantly “embarass” myself in public- my ipod/magazine/towel/h20 bottle have all fallen off a machine while I have been on it. But, like you, it takes a LOT to actually embarass me! haha

I love vinegars- a good, aged balsamic is my fave, but I love apple cider too!

Anne C March 11, 2010 at 6:19 am

That salad looks fab – can you divulge your roommate’s dressing recipe?

ProteinGirl March 11, 2010 at 6:39 am

I laughed so hard at your first sentence. I too succumb to alliteration over-load! Madness Monday’s, Terrible/Terrific Tuesday, When will it be Friday Wednesdays, Finally Friday etc. So glad to know I am not alone on this front!

I love the dress- so light and airy! Beautiful.

2. Can I say how ridiculously envious I am right now about your yogurt? I live in Canada *read NO OIKOS, FAGE, CHOBANI, ICELANDIC etc. NONE. I did find Liberte (they are organic and truly make some of the BEST EVER Mediterranean yogurts you will EVER taste) ranging from 0%MF to 8% and 11%! Amazing! I did find their Greek style fat free plain! But only in a huge container! BOO!

Hope you have a less stress filled day at work!
Love,
Barbara

Brandi March 11, 2010 at 6:43 am

LOVE the dresses :)

My bridesmaids ended up and went barefoot at our wedding. They had shoes and decided at the last minute to not wear them. it was fun!

Kelly Olexa March 11, 2010 at 6:56 am

Just found your blog and LOVE IT!! My friend Sherry and I started with BFL years ago….ahh the memories. Anyway- my most embarrassing gym moment was when I was doing a MAP test with my trainer on the treadmill (Metabolic Assessment Profile) and he thought I could go a whole lot faster a whole lot longer than I really could=== I swear I almost went flying off that treadmill and he had like 5 trainees watching me. EPIC FAIL.
;-)

Errign March 11, 2010 at 7:46 am

I love balsamic & apple cider vinegar – so yum!

I have never done anything TOO embarrassing but I once was running with a friend on the treadmill and she got distracted and flew off the back of the treadmill. And then was all flustered and DID IT AGAIN about a minute later.

Andrea March 11, 2010 at 8:04 am

Great dress pick!

Therese March 11, 2010 at 8:22 am

Hot Bod. Check out that BOD. Ok now that cheesy commercial will be running through my head all morning.

OMG I love the dresses! Such a gorgy color.

I wish my roomate (aka my husband) would could up something that healthy and delicious looking on a women. But alas I live with a meathead (even if he did go to an Ivy league).

Therese March 11, 2010 at 8:23 am

LOVE THE DRESS! Such a beautiful color and silhouette!

lisaou11 March 11, 2010 at 8:31 am

mmmm nice looking bean salad!!

Unfortunately, I really don’t like any kind of vinegar. Really puts a kink in food sometimes b/c I so wish I did!

Hate to say it, but I’ve totally let a big fart while on the treadmill before. I credit to to having an intense session haha :)

Melissa March 11, 2010 at 8:50 am

Beautiful bridesmaids dresses! The girls in your wedding party are really lucky :)

And props to your roommate for creating a delicious 3 bean salad. Yum!

Allison (Eat Clean Live Green) March 11, 2010 at 8:51 am

Love the dresses! I think my bridesmaids dresses were a similar colour.

1. I fell off the treadmill once. BAM! it hurt too, haha

2. Balsamic, for sure

Jenna March 11, 2010 at 9:18 am

dresses are gorg girl!

eaternotarunner March 11, 2010 at 9:26 am

Love the dresses! I’ve done the same thing on the treadmill before too :-)

Paige @ Running Around Normal March 11, 2010 at 9:29 am

That yogurt looks amaze! But yah, at $3 a pop, no thanks. I’ve actually been making my own “Greek” yogurt instead of already buying it pre-strained, to cut down on costs.
LOOOVE the bridesmaids dress and the shoe you’re having them wear. I hate bridesmaids shoes, and even had my own bridesmaids go barefoot! I had a beach wedding, though..

lowandbhold March 11, 2010 at 9:41 am

Sorry about the annoying spray situation. That would hav irked me to the extreme.

1. So many! Just yesterday I lost the key to my locker lock thing, and I had like 3 people helped me look for it (if feel out of my bra, where i thought it was safe). Come to find out, the locker was broken so I could just open it up no problemo. Luckily I had a spare key in the car so I could retrieve my padlock. I felt like a tool though.
2. Either balsamic or rice wine vingear. I could drink vinegar though. Love it.

LOOOVE the dresses!

mayapamela March 11, 2010 at 9:58 am

I always have so much to comment on in your posts!

Iceland is awesome, so I am not at all surprised that their yogurt is also awesome. Will check it out when it’s on sale! Did you know that everyone’s last name in Iceland means daughter or or son of? So I would be Maya Daughterofluis. So parents and kids have different last names. Good stuff.

Love the bridesmaid dresses! And the fact that the footwear is casual. Dressed down/dressed up, I dig it.

My favorite vinegar is balsamic, but to be different I am going to officially state that it is the orange muscat champagne vinegar at Trader Joe’s because that too is delicious.

Karissa@ CardioFoodie March 11, 2010 at 10:18 am

Love the dress! Very flattering style

Holly March 11, 2010 at 10:19 am

gorgey dresses.

your roomates are so gourmet.

that yogurt looks goopy.

have a great day!

and yes, all those g’s were planned :)

Emily March 11, 2010 at 10:46 am

Sorry you are having a yucky day, I hope Thursday is better! I’m a total sucker for new brands as well, I seriously cry a bit when I see new things at the store I can’t afford :D

I’m skipping #1, but 2) rice vinegar is my favorite.

http://eatventures.wordpress.com

Susan March 11, 2010 at 10:49 am

Love the dresses!! That is one of my favourite colours for clothing. Actually, I’m wearing a purple turtleneck sweater right now (it’s still cold in Canada!)

One of my friends went to Iceland and RAVED about the yogurt there. I didn’t even know he was a yogurt fan, but it’s all he talked about from the trip.

1. Gah! That iPod thing has totally happened to me before too! Now I just take it off when I do sprints on the treadmill because I think I flail when I run, and I always get tangled up in the cord. One time I fell off an exercise ball and it flew out behind me and hit another girl in the gym. That was embarrassing.

2. Balsamic and red wine here too! I hatehatehate apple cider vinegar, it makes me gag. I had a bad experience with it once trying to make vegan mayo.

Have a Happy Thursday Janeeeeetha!!! xoxo

allijag March 11, 2010 at 10:58 am

Your dresses are GORGEEEEEEEE! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!

Heather March 11, 2010 at 11:29 am

New to your site, and love it! I also did BFL (years back) and did wonderfully, although may not have rocked it quite as well as you… Need to get back on that wagon. That is when I felt most inspired!

As for the embarrassing gym question;
I just started at the crazy elite gym, which I could not afford, but scored a good deal on. It was my first day there, and I was running on the treadmill, thinking I fit in pretty well (trying to out run the girl next to me slightly), and all of a sudden I stepped slightly onto off to the side, and came tumbling down, and backwards, right off the treadmill. Legs ‘carpet burned’ and bleeding. I was in so much pain, but immediately got right back up and kept running at my race speed, all the whie forcing back tears. Needless to say, it was a one month pass. I made no friends, but got over it. Bruised ego.

Fave vinegar? It’s sold at my local market, and is not vinegar, but Maple vinegrette. I’m sure any vinegar with maple syrup tastes divine!

Cheers! Love the dress!

Mary March 11, 2010 at 12:06 pm

First, I LOVE your bridesmaid dresses!!! Wow! So beautiful :D

My fav vinegars are bal., rice wine & champagne… In that order.

I think the most embarassing thing that happned to me at the gym is not picking up my foot enough when I was walking & totally tripped, but didn’t fall. EVERYONE was starring. I was with my sister and we both started laughing and so did some other peeps. I felt like a douche, but I’m sure worse things could have happened. Once I *almost* tripped myself on the step mill… that fall from waaaaay up on that machine could have been rally bad, so I guess I got lucky.

Susan March 11, 2010 at 12:14 pm

Your bridesmaid dresses are gorgeous! Not prommy or frou frou at all, like you sometimes see at weddings.
Do you remember the BOD commercials? They were so awkward to watch. I want to know what marketing guy thought that would be a good idea.

Naomi (onefitfoodie) March 11, 2010 at 12:37 pm

balsamic and RICE WINE! at whole foods they have a low sodium kind which is awesome too! it is So tasty with mustard and some olive oil for a quick homemade dressing!

LOVE the dress color, that purple will look stunning on your bridesmaids esp with the flip flops!

hmmm gym momment, one time I thought I clicked the seat height on a weight machine but it wasn’t clicked in and I sat down and fell all the way to the ground, yeah that was not my finest moment. BUT one time my friend fell off a treadmill while runnign that was hilarious!

OMG those bod commercials, that reminds me of the jersey shore when paulie D whips out his cologne that is I think the same stuff!

love you girl!

I see that yog all the time, WAY expensive but once in a while its awesome to spluge!

Jamie (beautyandthebeef) March 11, 2010 at 12:39 pm

My favorite vinegar is definitely white balsamic, it’s a bit sweeter then regular balsamic.

Wow you are getting lots of the wedding planning done quickly!

lindsayruns March 11, 2010 at 12:43 pm

What a beautiful dress. I love all vinegars, I guess my favorite is red wine vinegar. Balsamic, apple cider, rice wine, champagne, all good in my book! Yum waffles…. gonna go make one now! :)

Tamizn March 11, 2010 at 2:20 pm

I just won some luna bars in a giveaway and can’t wait to try them! Balsamic all the way! x x

rachael March 11, 2010 at 2:36 pm

i do the same thing with a lot of my meals with the savory and then sweet as a “dessert!” your food all looks deelicious!
