catching up!

by Janetha on April 2, 2014

in oh baby

hey, guys! man—i tell myself i am going to get back to regularly blogging, then, BAM, it’s been two weeks since i posted last. whoops!

that’s okay, though.. i have been busy growing a human, and that is no joke. i really didn’t expect it to consume me as much as it has. i am definitely not complaining.. i am welcoming any and every reason to move less and eat more ;) lazy girl at heart right here!

plus, i have turned into one of those people that reads baby message boards instead of blogs. what can i say, there is a lot for me to learn and i know nothing! gotta make good use of that free time, ha.

i thought i would pop in and touch bases because i do have some exciting news regarding this little baby in my belly! i am almost 19 weeks along…

side note, i actually hate it when people talk in weeks. it makes sense for pregnant folks, because, well, different stuff is happening each week. but it really makes no sense to the rest of the world since we don’t live in lunar months. i will just tell you that i am somewhere between 4 and 5 months pregnant, which makes more sense to most people than 19 weeks does.

what really grinds my gears is when people describe their children as X-weeks old.. like 29 weeks old. NO. your kid is seven months old. and then these same parents move onto saying their child is X-months old.. like 22 months old. NO, NO.. your kid is almost two! i think i will start telling people i am 370 months old. or, better yet, 1603 weeks.

where was i? oh, yeah, i am pregnant. you guys are probably coming here to find out what the little squirt is, since i mentioned on social media that my anatomy scan was yesterday. well, don’t worry, i am not waiting and doing some cutesy pinterest-worthy reveal of the sex. i am also not having a “gender reveal party” because, well, i don’t want to. i will just tell you. (some things pregnant people do just aren’t my cup of tea.. and that’s okay. i am sure there will be plenty of cutesy things for me to do eventually.)

*drumroll*

boy!

yep! we are having a little dude! i had a hunch, and by hunch i mean i thought it was a boy because 93.6% of pregnant people i know are having boys or recently had a boy. it’s the year of boys, i tell ya. my BFF is having a girl, though, so we have already signed on the dotted line for an arranged marriage. perfect.

marshall actually thought it was going to be a little lady, so i think he was surprised at the anatomy scan. we were both surprised when the doc told us our guy was straight up peeing in the womb on camera when we came across his male parts. already acting up ;)

he’s super cute! look at his profile. he’s definitely got the “benson nose”—many of my nieces and nephews ended up with it. not a bad thing. he will be cute as a button. and hopefully have long curly locks like his daddy. profile!

in other news, still baby related (sorry, guys, this pregnancy is basically all that is on my mind these days), i felt movement for the first time yesterday! whew, what a day, we found out the sex AND felt the kicks for the first time. it was cool because marshall and i were together when it happened. i was driving down the road and felt basically the craziest feeling ever in the history of feelings—i mean, it’s a tiny human kicking your insides, i won’t even try to describe it. and so i had marshall reach over and feel my belly, and he was able to feel the kicks, too!

i had read and had been told that the first movement felt like butterflies or something of the sort.. which i hadn’t felt at all.. and then the first thing i feel is this kid pummeling my uterus. he doesn’t mess around! he continued to punch and kick the remainder of the night. we were even able to see the movement in action, which is definitely a trip.

between finding out he’s a boy and feeling him for the first time, i would say yesterday was the SHIT JUST GOT REAL day. no april fooling. and it has made it all that much more exciting!

what else? oh.. we are still house hunting. i am REALLY hoping we find something soon, as i would love to get moved and settled before i have this baby. if not, i won’t sweat it. we have plenty of space in our current home, i just won’t go to the trouble of making a nursery or anything if we find ourselves still in it when the baby comes. sure, we will have a crib and all the necessary baby loot.. but why decorate a room when we are just going to be moving? plus, i don’t think the baby will care either way ;) but, regardless, we want to find a house! so send me some happy house hunting vibes, k? thanks.

on the meals & moves front, things are pretty boring.

i don’t have food aversions anymore, but i still have random cravings which i am giving into 110%. cravings lately have included fluffy cinnamon rolls (i have yet to find one, though!), avocado, orange juice, bread & butter pickles (so cliché!), and breaded chicken sandwiches. i have also been craving arby’s curly fries & a roast beef sandwich with horsey sauce for a few weeks, so i am thinking that needs to happen. so random. one thing is for sure.. i am hungry all the time. allllll the time.

NewImage

moves.. oh.. moves.. i told myself i wanted to work out 3x a week. uhhh.. i think that happened once. i worked out one time last week and here we are to wednesday and i have yet to make a move this week. it may sound silly, but after working 8 hours i come home absolutely beat.. even though i have a desk job. i didn’t expect that being an incubator would take this much out of me, but it does. i KNOW i should be moving more.. i need to at least take walks or SOMETHING. who knew it would be such a hard thing for me?! it really is. it’s like pulling teeth. how the hell are pregnant women working out 6 days a week? it is far beyond me. while i don’t feel bad about not working out, i know deep down that i really should be doing something, especially since i am no longer nauseated all the time.

other pregnancy notes.. i have heartburn 24/7.. i can’t even look at food without the fiery feeling creeping up inside of me. i have no idea how much weight i have gained because i am bad at keeping track, but i have an appointment next week where they will either congratulate me or shame me. both have happened. at my 12 week appointment they got mad at me and said tone it down because i was gaining too quickly and at my 16 week appointment they praised me like a puppy saying, “only 2 pounds! good job!” eye roll.  for the record, nothing had changed for me to gain less the second time around.. so clearly my body has a mind of its own and i’m just along for the ride. what else? oh–names. we have a name picked out but not a middle name yet. we haven’t told people because, man, people can be jerks when you disclose the name you intend to give your offspring if they don’t like it.

well, that was a whole lot of rambling.. so i will leave it at that. i do have quite a few things i want to and need to blog about soon.. i will have to tear myself away from those pregnancy forums and tune myself back into the blog world soon!

love you all and miss you, too. thanks for your emails, messages, etc.. it’s always nice to keep in touch, even though i have been bad at it lately! thanks for understanding.

Qs~

1. what have you been craving lately? i mean, you don’t have to be pregnant to talk about cravings!

2. any good april fool’s day pranks to share with the class?

jessiker April 2, 2014 at 5:49 pm

Tacos.

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 5:59 pm

I hope that when you give birth to your taco, you don’t try to eat her.

Sabrina April 2, 2014 at 6:04 pm

I knew it. Boys are the best!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 6:07 pm

I am gonna be asking you a whole lot of questions, I’m sure! Your little man is soooo cute

Lauren April 2, 2014 at 6:04 pm

CONGRATS my dear!! So so excited for you! I have a feeling I’m having a boy but my mom is convinced its a girl. I just can’t wait to find out either way. A few more weeks! :)

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 6:08 pm

Can’t wait to hear what you are having! Eep!

Katie @ Talk Less, Say More April 2, 2014 at 6:08 pm

Congrats, girl! And OF COURSE it’s a boy! I’m definitely not surprised because it is the year of boys…it’s crazy!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:46 pm

Meggi April 2, 2014 at 6:10 pm

Congratulations!!! I’m only 3 months in, but I think boys are the best ;) I’m so excited for y’all! When I was pregnant, I craved Oreos like the world was ending. I ate handfuls daily. And it was worth every bite :) can’t wait to hear more about your little guy!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:47 pm

your lil man is a doll!

Kellie April 2, 2014 at 6:10 pm

I am thrilled for you! But beyond thrilled for your mom :) I know she has other grand babies…but there is NOTHING like a BRAND NEW grandbaby! Congrats to your whole fam :)

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:47 pm

Sarah April 2, 2014 at 6:15 pm

Congrats!! We just found out last week that we’re having a boy, too!! So weird though, EVERYBODY I know is having a girl!!!!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:47 pm

Sabrina April 2, 2014 at 6:21 pm

I’ve got your back, girl!

Erin @ A Girl & Her Mutt April 2, 2014 at 6:34 pm

Woot! So excited for you guys! Little guy is going to be adorable.

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:48 pm

thank you! xoxo

Lindsay Lloyd Emerson April 2, 2014 at 6:39 pm

Janetha,
I don’t know if you remember me but I use to hang out with your brother Doug in high school. Anywho, I started following your blog a couple of years ago and then got caught up in school for a while but when I came back for a visit, I noticed that you and I are both pregnant and about the same amount along (how ever you say that?) I will be 19 weeks along on Sat.
As far as cravings go, just food in general. I am seriously hungry all the time. It is crazy!!! Anyway, congratulations and keep up the good work on cooking that babe! I’ll be watching to see how things are going :)

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 6:45 pm

Duh of course I remember youuuu! HI! I will never forget you or your whole fam :) Love you all. Congrats to you on your little baby! What are you having? Do you know?

Heather (Where's the Beach) April 2, 2014 at 6:42 pm

Congrats girl!!! So excited for you guys.

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:48 pm

thank you! :)

April April 2, 2014 at 6:42 pm

I love your pregnancy updates! I am hoping to have a baby in the next few years and I think I will be very much like you; not too much crazy stuff and pretty straight-forward.

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:44 pm

haha yeah sometimes i feel like a “bad” pregnant person.. not taking weekly “bump date” pics or filling out questionnaires regarding my pregnancy.. but really, i think growing a human is enough.

Melissa April 2, 2014 at 6:45 pm

YAY! He is going to be the cutest little guy! Good genes :-)

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:45 pm

aw thank you!

holly April 2, 2014 at 6:56 pm

i am hoping for a mini marshall with all dem curls!!!!!!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:45 pm

meeee tooooo

sofia April 2, 2014 at 7:06 pm

janetha! i loved reading this! you sound so happy and excited, and that makes me happy and excited for YOU and your little boy! :) i have been craving a trip to SLC to ski the trees with you… aaaand bagels. with cream cheese. every day. what else is new? :)

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:45 pm

i know! have you been much this winter? it’s weird to sit it out.

Haley April 2, 2014 at 7:08 pm

Yayyyy….so many congrats!!!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:48 pm

thank you!!

Maren April 2, 2014 at 7:11 pm

SO. First of all, congratulations on the baby boy!! That’s hilarious that he was peeing inside of you. I’m so mature ;) I immediately thought that the baby’s profile looked like a Benson! Also, do they have Cinnabon in UT? Holy shit they are amazing. I wish I could send them to you and keep them fresh! Last, apparently the baby WILL have Marshall’s luscious locks because you have hella heartburn. I heard this morning in the locker room that heartburn means baby will have lots of hair lol. :) Love you tons!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:49 pm

they used to have them in the malls but the only one i know of now is in the airport! ughhh those are SO good. that’s exactly what i have been wanting. love you love you!

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List April 2, 2014 at 7:12 pm

i love everything about this post.
and prevacid!! start taking that for heartburn…seriously a lifesaver!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:49 pm

i have it ready and waiting, but am not allowed to take it until 20 weeks. almost there! love you.

Tara April 2, 2014 at 7:17 pm

Hail yes! Congrats ladybug! Two of my girlfriends both found out today they are having girls. I told them everyone is having girls! That’s my fourth friend on Team Pink this year. Total opposite of what you posted. I stand corrected. Must be an Okie thing. Happy to get a blog post from you with fun news!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:50 pm

thank you! crazy you know so many future baby girls! that’s fun :)

Susie April 2, 2014 at 8:14 pm

All I could think about while reading your rambles about being pregnant is “and this is why we’re friends.” I am just SO excited and happy that your family is growing. Penny will have another boy in the house to love! I’m going for a pelvic ultrasound and blood test Friday morning to see if my ability to conceive was affected by chemo. Crazy to think that’s where we’re at now. I’m so lucky to share in this experience with you from afar! Also I’m writing this on my phone so that’s why it’s a block of text. LOVE YOU!!!!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:50 pm

lol i love you, we are one in the same :) please LMK how it goes on friday! i know, wtf, we are growing up and shit.

Cassie April 2, 2014 at 8:35 pm

If you don’t mind me asking how much weight have you gained since getting pregnant?

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:51 pm

i don’t mind at all! but, like i said in the post, i have no idea. i will know next week at my doc apt. i think the last one (16 weeks) i was up 8 pounds? i honestly can’t remember, though.

kristen @ livinlifeinlouie April 2, 2014 at 8:42 pm

CONGRATS! boys are the best! Mine is 8 (or 96 months haha Just kidding. that bothers me sometimes too)

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:52 pm

lmao love it. and thank you! xo

Linz @ Itz Linz April 2, 2014 at 8:51 pm

i knew it!! totally suspected you were having a boy!! and you’re right – i feel like there are SO many boys lately!! hehe yaaaay for baby boys!! and i’ve been eating my weight (and baby itz’s, but that’s not hard!) in nut butters!!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 8:52 pm

i know! boy central! it’s craaazy. thank you! xo

Franzi April 2, 2014 at 9:01 pm

19 weeks + 3 days over here! I also spend lots of time in those baby forums and enjoy reading everything about pregnancy and babies right now haha. I’m craving FiveAlive Mango Citrus juice all the time.. very cold and with a straw lol!

We found out on Friday (on my birthday!) that we’re having a girl! I was not surprised because I’ve had a feeling and so many people were telling me it’s a girl. Everyone I know had or is having a girl lately.

All the best for you and your little man! You’re looking great!

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 9:13 pm

Congrats to you! And I love the specificness of your craving lol

Franzi April 2, 2014 at 9:28 pm

Thank you! Mostly I just start craving certain things when somebody is eating something that smells or looks appealing and then I want the same thing right NOW. Also I was craving German potato salad (I’m German), West Indian food (in-laws are from there) and Poutine (my husband is Canadian and we live in Canada). Baby sure wants to stay true to her roots!

Lauren @ Me and the Mountains April 2, 2014 at 9:03 pm

HOORAY!! What a rad little boy you’ll have. And I’m sure you guys will find a house in no time. If the market is anything in Utah like it is here, you have to be ready to sign a contract the moment you find a house that you want (that’s what we had to do!).
You look adorable- I need to take an impromptu trip out there and see you asap (and we can like, plan for Blend and stuff). :)

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 9:20 pm

Oh it is! The market is so few and far between and everything gets nabbed right away! I can’t wait to come see your new digs. And I can’t wait to see YOU in the flesh! xoxo

Jess April 2, 2014 at 9:24 pm

Omg. I’ve been craving pizza soooo much. Lucky I’m headed to Chicago tomorrow. Also, don’t mean to be negative but what is the deal with a gender reveal party?

Janetha April 2, 2014 at 9:28 pm

lol i agree with you on that. i think it’s just a big to-do that i don’t need. many people i know have them.. great.. but i think a shower is enough! i guess i don’t love being the center of attention. i also hate surprises, so there’s that.

Stephanie April 2, 2014 at 10:00 pm

Oh boy! Congrats! I also suspected that he would be a boy because so many people are having boys.

Pua April 3, 2014 at 12:58 am

I am loving your posts because I am only a few weeks behind you, so it’s fun to see what I can expect! I am definitely craving smoothies and anything that’s sweet & bread-related (bread pudding, corn bread, bread, bread, BREAD).

Is it bad that I’m happy that you are hungry all the time and don’t want to work out? I swear I want to fly my laptop anytime I come across someone who’s pregnant and is only eating salads and regularly attending Body Pump! LOL

And congrats on the boy! Yay!

Jenn - Girl Heroes April 3, 2014 at 5:22 am

Just saw this on IG and had to click over. Congrats!!! I LOVE being a boy mom. With my first I wanted a boy so badly that we didn’t even find out what it was. Although I’m sure I would have been fine with a girl I remember being soooooo happy when they said it was boy during delivery.

Janetha April 3, 2014 at 9:21 am

I am stalking you waiting for your little baby to get here!! xo

Sam @ Better With Sprinkles April 3, 2014 at 5:31 am

Congrats on the baby boy! I swear, literally every pregnant person I know in real life and that I *know* from blogging is having a boy – it’s crazy!

lindsay April 3, 2014 at 5:34 am

BOY!!!! and thank you for the months reference. my blonde brain doesn’t have to convert now. <3 you little mama. Now, we must wait for a name. Pickles? jk.

Sara April 3, 2014 at 6:20 am

Congrats!!! And, you’re totally right, this IS the year of the boy. All of my own friends are having/have had boys as well. Something must be in the atmosphere… ;)

betty April 3, 2014 at 6:32 am

yayayayayya congrats to you lady! I cant wait to see what he looks like! I feel you on the name thing. I heard some older women talking about a childs name and how it was ‘weird and names should only be family names’ and it made me so mad.

we already have our names picked out for up to 3 kids and i’m sure people will think theyre weird too, but I don’t give AF. I wont tell any of my close friends either, because i’m afraid they’ll steal them and then they wont be as original. haha

Heather April 3, 2014 at 7:00 am

Congrats!!! Boys are the jam. :)

Paige @ Your Trainer Paige April 3, 2014 at 7:06 am

Congrats! That’s so exciting, Janetha :)

Livi April 3, 2014 at 7:17 am

It’s all so exciting!! Congrats on the little dude!

the delicate place (@misathemeb) April 3, 2014 at 8:18 am

CONGRATS on the lil boy! i secretly or not so secretly think they are the best kind of baby (not that i’ve had one except male puppies or male hamsters haha) but they were just more chill than the female counterpart. oh hayyyy biology and hormones. cravings? um yeah and once again not preg but man. i am all about having the sweet & savory mixed together in pretty gross combos like miso and jam on a coconut turmeric wrap. yep it happened.t

Madeline April 3, 2014 at 8:31 am

Congratulations! I’m almost 16 weeks and I can’t wait for our anatomy scan (also since I haven’t seen the baby since I was 8 weeks and it was just a blob)! My biggest pregnancy craving so far as been bagels and cream cheese. In my dream world, I would eat that for every meal of the day.

Janetha April 3, 2014 at 9:20 am

I have eaten a lot of those!!

jenna April 3, 2014 at 9:47 am

haha I love your pregnancy posts and how real you have stayed. I imagine i would feel the same way if I ever got pregnant. All the cutesy stuff drives me nuts. I’ve been to so many baby showers and gender reveals and played all the weird games…not for me. but i guess you gotta get the gifts somehow! hah, also i am not pregnant but i hope to be in about 2 years so i guess i can start telling people my baby is negative 104 weeks old.

Janetha April 3, 2014 at 11:01 am

lmfao you just made my day

Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries April 3, 2014 at 9:51 am

YAYYYYY! Congrats on the baby boy! Loving your cute little bump!

Heather @ Better With Veggies April 3, 2014 at 10:06 am

So excited to hear it’s a boy – everyone really does seem to be having boys recently!!

Annette@FitnessPerks April 3, 2014 at 10:07 am

YAY! Little boy! He’s going to be so darling <3

Andrea @ pencils and pancakes April 3, 2014 at 10:29 am

What the hell? Tell that doctor to shove it

Janetha April 3, 2014 at 11:00 am

lol are you talking about the weight gain thing? yeah.. i thought it was weird. now i am all sorts of nervous about it even though i know it doesn’t matter!

candice s April 3, 2014 at 12:48 pm

I LOVE talking baby names. I’m going to force you to tell me.

Janetha April 3, 2014 at 2:36 pm

lol good luck! that is, if i ever show up to GPP again lmao

Kim F April 3, 2014 at 6:47 pm

LOL I love your no-BS this is what being preggo is attitude. It gets annoying hearing all the “glamourous” preggo stories and I feel like youre one of the first to tell us how it is. Maybe I’ll learn a thing or two and not be so terrified one day down the road. Sending good house-finding vibes now. Keep being awesome!

Katy Widrick April 4, 2014 at 8:00 am

You look SO great and I am so happy that you’re happy. It’s an amazing experience.

I have to smile, though — in a loving way, not in a judgy way! But you’ll find out soon enough that many (all?) of the things you thought or said you’d never do…you’ll say and do. For example, when it comes to marking ages in weeks not months, or later, months and not years, you’ll see how different kids can be in just a few days.

1 week to 4 weeks is a different person. 12 weeks to 16 weeks — HOLY COW. And now, Audrey’s 17-month skills are absolutely light years away from her 12-month skills. Her 23-month skills will be much different than the ones she has now. For eye-rolling non-parents, I do usually keep it in years, but for anyone with kids, I say the month.

You do you. Pregnancy and parenthood are, in my experience, so scary and wonderful and time-consuming that I just don’t have time to worry about what other people think about what I’m doing!

So happy for you.

Janetha April 4, 2014 at 1:50 pm

Thanks! xoxoxo

Oh and I am def not saying that they aren’t different in a matter of weeks.. I am just saying the way I will tell other people how old they are. People without kids don’t know what 31 weeks means lol. I agree, they can be different day by day!

Yeah luckily I have never been one to care what people think of me. I know some gals super wrapped up in impressing others that it stresses them to the max. I am just over here eating bagels and giving them the thumbs up lol.

Love yoU!

Purelytwins April 4, 2014 at 5:19 pm

CONGRATS on having a little boy!!! so happy for you. I can’t wait to find out my sex and feel the baby for the first time, I get so nervous sometimes when I hear and read about other ladies feeling their baby and I am like… I don’t. So looking forward to that day :)

And totally agree with you about the weeks. I always hated it when people said oh my baby is 36 weeks… ugh. I would have to sit there and calculate that in months, as my brain works in months, LOL

xo

Marie-Sophie April 6, 2014 at 12:41 am

I am 11 weeks along and I already CANNOT wait to know whether it’s boy or girl! Because like you said, this will make it so much more real!!

Oh, and I’ve had heartburn since week 8 – which at some point overtook morning/all day sickness and still makes it incredibly hard to find food interesting… (may be TMI but my heartburn makes me gag so much) Oh well, people keep telling me that pregnancy will get lovely at some point! ;-)

Janetha April 7, 2014 at 8:03 pm

lol still waiting for the lovely part. although the kicks from the baby make it cooler :)

Nikki April 6, 2014 at 7:06 am

I am 27-28 weeks pregnant with my first and although I belong to a gym, my best recommendation for you is to explore YouTube. There are hundreds of free, full length workout videos. You can type in something specific like Jillian Micheals or more general like vinyasa yoga. I don’t blame you for not feeling like going anywhere after a long work day. This way, if you want to stay home, not spend any extra money for a video or class you may not like, and stop when you feel exhausted or just not into it, YouTube is the best.

Janetha April 7, 2014 at 8:02 pm

I should do that! I even have sooo many DVDs here at home, too, I should definitely whip them out. I did do an at home tabata workout a few weeks back.. thanks for the kick in the pants! xo
