hey, hi, how are you? hope your week is going well. mine is getting better. amanda (aka my co-worker) was out of town for 8 days but was back today so it made work seem like a breeze! once our new admin assistant starts i am not going to know what to do with myself! so excited.
i had my 16 week checkup today. no ultrasound this time around.. but guess what?! april 1 is my next one and we will find out the baby’s sex! super stoked. i hope he/she doesn’t try to fool us ;) all is well with the baby for now.. healthy heartbeat at 145-150 BPM and my uterus is “sitting just right”–good job, ute. proud of ya.
in other news, marshall is at a concert and i am home alone eating my entire kitchen.. so i thought i would tear myself away to ramble for a minute before going back for more.
time for three things thursday!
once upon a time there was a blogger named melissa who wrote a blog called melissa’s nibbles (or was it melissa nibbles?) and it was easily one of my top five favorite blogs. when she retired, i was sad to see her go. one of her weekly features was three things thursday, where she’d bitch about what’s bugging her that week.
every once in awhile, i would jump on the TTT wagon and post my own annoyances. it’s been year(s) since i have posted my own three things thursday, but today i decided to bring it back. sometimes it’s just nice to complain, right? plus, it’s all in fun. i am sure my list today will offend lots of people, but please don’t take it too seriously. there’s my disclaimer.
1. the hashtag #fitpregnancy.
haha.. this is going to offend the majority of bloggers who are/have been pregnant. many of my friends as well.. so please don’t take it personally, k? but i just cannot handle this stupid hashtag! it drives me up the wall. is it necessary to post a photo every.time.you.do.something.active? we get it, you are working out WHILE growing a child in your womb. you are so fit. someone get this woman a trophy.
i personally didn’t work out for the first three months of my pregnancy. i was too sick to do normal things like make dinner, fold laundry, or walk up a flight of stairs. going to the gym was the last thing on my mind. while i don’t feel an ounce of guilt for my lack of working out, i know that some pregnant women might see all this #fitpregnancy talk and feel bad about their own habits.. which makes me sad to think about. some women aren’t even allowed to work out during part/all of their pregnancy. it’s FINE. you are growing a HUMAN. that right there is no joke—it takes it out of you. i had no idea just how exhausting it would be. yeah, i have made it to the gym a few times since entering the second trimester, but i am by no means superior to anyone who hasn’t made it there. i said i would go 3x a week but it’s thursday night and i have gone once. whoops. i mean, i counted my trip to costco yesterday as my workout. it’s fine. jessica said it counts. (jessica is my pregnant BFF. she is 6 weeks ahead of me. she has authority on these things.)
and can we all pause for a moment to read THIS POST? best. ever. seriously, go read it. i will be here when you get done.
and then there are the food pics. i didn’t know that every semi-healthy-ish morsel that went into your mouth had to be tagged #fitpregnancy. chicken for dinner? tag that shit. you ate an apple for a snack? clearly you are the fittest pregnant woman around! good job. i bet you anything that same woman is eating french fries and/or ice cream as well (depending on her cravings and/or aversions) and not boasting about that snack choice. i’m just over here trying to decide between savory and sweet.
for the record, i had both. and, yes, we text each other about food ALL DAY LONG.
okay, so the working out pics tagged with this DO make some sense. even though it’s annoying, i get it. and even though i don’t agree, i see why you might tag your oh-so-healthy meal choice with #fitpregnancy.. but what about the ones that are completely irrelevant? i saw a pic of a pregnant belly in a bubble bath tagged #fitpregnancy. (don’t even get me started on bathtub pics, you guys.) #fitpregnancy in the bubbly tub??? WHY?! please stop.
finally, one last rant about this one before moving on, and it’s my biggest rant of all. i saw a pic under this hashtag and a woman was talking about how she “hasn’t even gained 10 pounds yet, 26 weeks in!” i had to shake my head. first of all, weight gain during pregnancy is not exactly something you can control. sure, maybe you can not gain all the pounds by having some self control around the self-serve ice cream machine.. but really, that baby is gonna make you gain weight. rapidly. and it’s gonna be weird. no matter what. even if you are ready for it or expect it. and for a woman to put that photo out there for other pregnant women to see, for those who may be struggling with their own weight gain, for them to compare their situation to yours, is just ridiculous. yay, you, you’re the fittest because you haven’t packed on double digits yet. congrats.
whew. apparently that one really makes me ragey. moving on.
2. same side sitters.
you know those couples. you go to a restaurant and they are there, insisting to sit on the same side as each other… but they are the only two at the table. is this so they can hold hands while they eat their meal? or are they just terrified of watching each other chew?
marshall and i always give a nice eye roll to those same side sitters when we spot them. i guess it’s a phenomenon we will never understand. a quick google search just now informed me that i am not the only one noticing this. it’s even listed in urban dictionary! haha.. the images tab is good for a laugh. found this gem…

the facebook sharing thing should definitely be on this list as well, no?
3. boobs.
you guys! why do people pay money for fake boobs?? i HATE them. before i was pregnant, i had no boobs an happily went bra-less about 87% of the time. i don’t understand women who complain about small boobs.. they win at life. proud member of the IBTC right here.
then this pregnancy thing came along and my boobs started growing at a very rapid rate. i have had to purchase bras on two occasions so far—because they just keep getting bigger and bigger. umm.. i’m not even halfway through my pregnancy. shit. and let’s not even think about when those things are full of milk. ay ay ay.
anyway, boobs are annoying. i hate the under-boob fold thing that i now have.. definitely a new and awful feeling. all my shirts are too tight these days, and that’s not because of my growing belly (yet.) it’s all because of the boobs. i guess i wasn’t cut out for these knockers and i really don’t understand why people pay money to upgrade the size of their chest. (i mean, i know some women have legit reasons for breast augmentation, but those who pay big bucks to supersize them? i don’t get it.)
i know there’s a reason for my boobs to be growing at a rapid rate, and that’s fine, i just sure hope they tone it down after all is said and done. (although marshall may disagree with my desire.)
that concludes this episode of three things thursday. i would love for you to list your own things in the comments. my local radio show does a series called “things that must go” every wednesday. i love hearing what people are complaining about… so please, humor me, and let’s hear it.

hahaha love all your honesty! Yes, I never understand those people that sit on the same side of the booth. It always makes everyone around feel awkward :)
You are doing awesome! So exciting you will find out the gender VERY soon!!!
I love you for posting about the #fitpregnancy thing. It annoys the hell out of me. It’s my own issue – I was on a modified bed rest from 29 weeks until I had the baby – but if you can’t work out during pregnancy, it does make you feel bad. Or at least it did for me. And it still does even postpartum.
HAHAHAHA this post had me ROFL! I’m pretty sure I hashtagged #fitpregnancy however I only use hashtags like that for motivational purposes not bragging purposes.
Also, on one or two occasions, the guy I’ve been dating and I have sat next to each other but to be fair it’s because we were at a loud pub and couldn’t hear very well. It totally made me feel awkward the first time he asked to sit next to me, but I let it go because he’s so damn good looking.
Posts like these are why I will always read your blog! SPOT ON!
#fatpregnancy
I’ve never had a problem with my boobs. They’re quite small, but I’m so used to it and how they look, especially when I work out. I couldn’t imagine having those things bounce and get in the way…
Yeah, I’m not such a fan of that hashtag or really any hashtag that people use in the wrong context, way too much or just to brag.
best.post.ever. (well, except the one where you announced your pregnancy!) kudos to you for showing the not-always-so-glamorous side of pregnancy, and reminding everyone that it’s okay to take it easy, listen to your body, and embrace pregnancy :)
Haha, I had no idea that “same side sitters” were a thing that bothered people. My girlfriend and I do this. It’s because we can hear each other better when we’re talking, and we like to be close to one another. It’s never seemed weird to me!
Haha the hear each other reason is legit
I wish my boobs were smaller, they were big to start with got bigger when I was pregnant and now that I’m lactating..Christ. It’s out of control. I am so greatful that they produce milk for our daughter but do they really need to be so gigantic. No no they don’t.
Hahah- I love you. I think pre-pregnancy…we all think we’re going to be a ___ kind of pregnant women (one who doesn’t gain too much weight, one who doesn’t crave EVERYTHING, one that does…whatever). Then, once you’re pregnant, your body takes over and you no longer have so many choices :). Although staying in the gym was easy for me (which I know its totally not for everyone), I gained steadily the same amount of weight throughout my pregnancy. I have never understood why people feel the need to sit super close during dinner out, but to each their own. And I’m totally with you on the boobs. Love this post- do it again!
Lol love this post!
I love this idea, I might even steal it for my own blog : )
I am weirded out by those that sit on the same side of each other. I am one who needs their space, so that is just weird to me.
You are doing great creating a human, and that my friend is enough. Forget #fitpregnancy and keep doing #keepingitrealpregnancy
haha please do a post like this so i can read it and laugh! and yes… i like that hashtag:)
lol you crack me up! ok and i totally use the #fitpregnancy hashtag – GUILTY!! but itz not to show anyone up or anything… and i actually did not workout AT ALL the first four months so i guess now that i am moving (slowly) i am proud of it lol
i know your intentions are good :) haha no judgment. still love you to bits. or shall i say bitz?
Lol, this is amazing. I have no comments on the #fitpregnancy thing becuase well…I am not nor have I ever been pregnant and i think that puts me in the category to not be able to comment :) But the same side sitter things…yes very awkward. In my world that means you are too close to my food with a too easy chance of you stealing some of it hehe. And for the last ramble… I am one of those that has been naturally “blessed” with a large chest..and i hate it. In fact when I was dieting down for my figure show I was so excited that they would finally shrink down and be manageable, but no it turns out i’m one of the “lucky” ones that can lose all sorts of weight AND keep her boobs. yay. Keep being awesome!
hahaha i love it.. “blessed”… at least you look good doing it. seriously hottie.
we just created a crazy cotter fb page.. but i promise we’d never sit on the same side of the booth. Does that even out? Besides, the FB page is for sponsor for the kiwi, cause ya, we work for the $$. LOL!
no no no that’s different! it’s those possessive wives that make their husband share a FB page lol.
I am so happy you said something about the #fitpregnancy thing. I was starting to get down on myself for not working out as hard or long as I usually do and honestly, some days, a 10 minute walk on the treadmill was such an accomplishment. Other days, if I managed to get out of bed was a big accomplishment. So yes, I totally agree and understand! Being fit during pregnancy doesn’t have to mean logging in 6 days a week at the gym.
Can’t wait for you to find out the sex! We are a few weeks behind you guys but I’m seriously dying to know!
I can’t wait to hear what you are having, either!
I love it!!! I think we are exactly the same amount pregnant. I turn 16 weeks today, Friday. I can not stand the #fitpregnancy. Why does anyone need to know you worked out, pregnant or not?
I went from an A cup to a C and I feel like I am suffocating!
Happy to see you share your pregnancy story!
Yep! I started week 17 today.. we are pregnant twins! <3
And I am pregnant with twins :) Cant wait to see what you are having!
this cracked me up! I love your honest perspective. I feel like I can’t comment on the first one because I’ve never been pregnant, but I definitely agree on the side-sitters thing. I don’t get it. And as for boobs…I feel like I complain sometimes about mine being on the smaller side, but I know I wouldn’t want huge ones either. I hope you keep up these posts – this is great!
1. Doing the dishes.
2. Turns out I can’t stand it when people are eating with a runny nose. That’s too much noise.
3. Please don’t bring your toddler to the off-leash dog park and let them run around freely. My dog isn’t always great with kids. There are literally 3 places in Salt Lake my dogs can run around off-leash. There are 900 parks your kid can run around off-leash. Please just let me have the dog park without worrying about your toddler pulling my dog’s tail.
amen about the dog park!
<3<3<3
hahah omg. same side sitters. Barbara and I hateee it. Like really.. who wants no personal space when theyre trying to eat lunch or dinner?
my biggest thing.. weight loss blogs/weight loss IG accounts that don’t know the difference LOOSE and LOSE. ughhh.. because i’ll pronounce loose and it pisses me off every time. I feel like I see it sooo much these days.. or maybe its all the social media I follow that makes it seem like more people don’t know the difference.
YES YES YES SO MUCH YES! i ALWAYS see that, it’s almost bugging me as bad as the YOUR.
I was going to post about loose and lose. It is so annoying and I see it written incorrectly all the time!
oh janetha. you rock.
i’m small boobied and proud. we won’t have to tuck our titties into our pants when we’re 80, so we win.
i agree with everything you said about fit pregnancy and i’m not pregnant. it’s super annoying and shows great insecurity.
hahah YES we win!!!
I hear ya on the boob issue. I too am a member of the IBTC (lol) and when I was pregnant my boobs blew my mind. I remember having a bath when my belly was huge and my boobs were huge and I could actually feel my boobs resting on my belly – what a freaky sensation that was :) Pregnancy is bizarre.
yeah i hate how i can feel them flopping over lol i feel bad for people who live like this 24/7
Hahah my boyfriend and I hate seeing same side sitters…we call it “bus seat style”. There was a couple I made an exception for (haha like they need my approval) one time because they were watching a basketball game at the restaurant and they could both see the tv from that side.
hahahah i totally get it when you say you made an exception. i do that, too! love the bus seat style phrase!
This post rules!!! I love your insights. I haven’t been privy to the #fitpregnancy hashtag, but I can certainly understand your issues with it on all counts.
As for same side sitters, that only flies when there are other people with you! Otherwise: NO.
And I’m with you, happy for my Bs. Hang in there, sweetness! xo
ahhh that wotherwodder post is hilarious! had me crackin up! I haven’t followed any fitpregnancy hashtags but sounds hella annoying. most fitness related hashtags are annoying in my book though….the fitness side of my life is completely unglamourous, im sure no one wants to see that. whatever, im in it for myself lol
haha i love that you said that. in it for yourself.. as ya should bE!
I REFUSE to use the #fitpregnancy hashtag, so effing smug, and you’re right, I just don’t need to humblebrag every time I do something healthy. It’s not special, it’s what I did before, and I’m doing it during — typically without any extra effort because I’m pregnant.
And yes, I hate the boobs too. My husband WOMP WOMPs my “first world problem” complaints of huge boobs, but I just don’t like them! Hopefully when all is said and done, I can get my small ones back.
haha it’s a valid complaint! he doesn’t know what we are going through! yes–humblebrag. good word.
yes to everything you said basically haha. i guess i should start hashtagging #fitperson every time i decide to work out or eat right lol. re: sidesitters. how do they talk to one another?! it baffles me too! i prefer to sit across so i can see the person and engage in a nice conversation! i’m sorry about your boobs hah, i am in the itty bitty club too and am happy to go braless from time to time! hope they settle down soon!
pet peeves: chewing with your mouth open or sniffing constantly. it’s just gross.
<3
Totally agree about the #fitpregnancy hashtag – I mean, do people actually do a search for that hashtag? The “comparison trap” starts in pregnancy and continues through motherhood. I’m glad you have such a realistic and light attitude!
Dishes annoy me. I HATE doing them. The second you clear out the sink, they pile up again. It’s a never-ending cycle. Grrr!
exactly–i don’t think it’s a hashtag many people want to click on.. i know when i did i was like WTF why would i want to see all this?
dishes. ugh.
This made me laugh way too hard! What a fun way to let out some of the things that bother you. (And I agree with the first too – super annoying.) I think I may need to add this to my blogging from time to time :)
Love this post, thanks for mentioning my genius, er, obnoxious tirade. I’ve started using the hashtag #fatpregnancy with pictures of all the bad choices I’m making. The movement hasn’t really taken off yet but just you wait.
Good luck with your boobs!
hahaha funny you say that because my friend and i were looking at the #fatpregnancy tag last night after i posted this. much more legit. thanks for making me laugh regularly–love your posts.
I stumbled upon your blog for the first time today and I have to agree with the #fitpregnancy hashtag. I am 21 weeks and I waited until last week to even mention being pregnant on social media. I definitely can’t see myself using that hashtag ever.
I’m not very fond of my larger boobs either. They haven’t been too bad (yet) but some of my clothes definitely fit differently because of them (and now due to my growing belly finally).
I hope your baby cooperates on April 1st! I had my anatomy scan two weeks ago and the baby had his/her legs crossed so they couldn’t tell. :(
Aww man, bummer about the U/S! Hopefully next time you will be able to see! Thanks for stopping by! xoxo
LOL I love all three of these things. I’m totally and completely with you on #2. I can see where you’re coming from with #3, but I’ve kind of loved my bigger boobs. They’re starting to shrink again, and it makes me a little sad. So, I can assure you that they will go down again. ;) As for the #fitpregnancy thing… Yes! I totally can see what you’re saying. It drives me bonkers at times too. But, it also drives me bonkers when women take pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever they want and not take care of themselves as well. So, I guess you could take it from either extreme… I’m very much an “everything in moderation” kinda person. I know you are too! And that lady who said something about not gaining 10 lbs at 26 weeks pregnant?! Ahhh that makes me cringe!
Oh, I agree! As much as I would love to use it as a reason to be a sloth.. hahah.. but I don’t think some people realize how physically draining it is just to be pregnant. I know I didn’t expect it! Love you lady!
ohmygosh, I have so many! Let me narrow it down to the current ones:
1. People who drive slower than the speed limit while parked in the left lane. Move over! What are you so scared of?
2. When others find it acceptable to comment on my food. I bring my own lunch and eat at my desk so I can avoid all of you. I don’t care if you find turkey burgers gross or think asparagus is the devil; do you hear me commenting on your artery clogging fast food? No.
3. Lazy dog owners. It’s fine with me if your dog jumps all over you and you find it ‘cute’. However I don’t. My dog does not jump on you and if she does, then she gets a stern ‘no’ and pulled down. I should not have to scold your dog for you, but trust me I will if I have to. There’s no reason for me to have to wear mud clothes to the park in fear of your dog trashing what I’m wearing. Oh, and the park picnic tables. Those are for people to rest on, not your dog. Thanks!
haha yes! thanks for sharing yours.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for number 1!!! I’m right behind you on this crazy trip growing a human – i had BIG BIG plans for the in shape and healthy/clean eating wonder I’d be. What a laugh. Nice to read something that doesn’t make me feel totally guilty for barely being able to remove myself from the couch, the bathroom floor, or the saltines.
hahaha <3
Hilarious. Seriously. I couldn’t agree more about the hashtag. I always assume the person was eating fries with cheese sauce a few hours before their workout. Same side sitters are ridiculous. I’ve been in the service industry for years and see it nearly every day, yet still can’t make sense of it. Sometimes people even start on the same side, then move to face each other when their food arrives. WTF?! And boobs. I have ginormous boobs and I’m not even pregnant. I don’t even want to think about what size bra I’ll need when I’m pregnant some day.
Whether you’re pregnant or not, posting photos of EVERY meal and EVERY workout is excessive to me. I am all about community and inspiration/motivation via the interwebs, It seems like people sometimes do it just to get validation from other people that they are “doing it right”.
Also, as for couples who sit on the same side–for me, it’s more about the intense amount of PDA. My fiance and I sometimes sit on the same side if it is a loud bar or something, so that we can hear each other, but I think it’s weird when couples CANNOT get their hands off each other, whether they are across from each other or next to each other. My fiance and I are very affectionate, but we are strong enough in our connection that we don’t have to be attached at the hip all the time. Just my two cents. :)
Great post!
hahah I love this post! Even more I love the way you describe pregnancy!
Ever since I moved to Utah I noticed that people don’t use sidewalks the same way they do in the rest of the world. I am used to staying on the same side (or moving over if someone is coming my way) as you would on a road. It just makes sense!! Why don’t people do that here! Everyone wants to on the inside, ahhhhhh!!! I want to just keep running and run right into someone when they’re on my side, coming right at me.
I love boobs. And boobs of all sizes are awesome. ;)
Dan and I only sit on the same side when there’s a third person. We don’t do the same side sitting when it’s just us, that’s weird to me!
Three things annoying me this week:
1. the guy who leveled me in soccer for NO reason. Being violent does not make up for lack of skill, douche.
2. the weather. I loved winter, but going from 60 to 6 in one day? WTF.
3. working out and still feeling cranky after.
One thing I learned really early on was that a) I can’t compare pregnant me to normal me and b) I definitely can’t compare myself to anyone else who is pregnant. All pregnancies are sooo different.
I pictured myself running throughout my pregnancy and drinking green smoothies every day, but the first trimester for me was all about attempting to keep down the little food I was able to eat (97% baked potatoes and ice cream) and realizing that my boobs hurt way too much to even think about running. Now that I’m on Diclegis I’m finally able to go for walks without puking every half mile, so that’s going to have to be my version of #fitpregnancy. *rolls eyes*
Ugh yes to the people who sit on the same side. If it’s a loud bar or something that’s one thing, but I wait tables at a very quiet restaurant. I feel like it’s actually harder to sit that way and eat a meal. I don’t understand..
And, I’m a DDD chest size over here. Definitely jealous of the IBT club and always have been. Lord help me whenever I get pregnant. Omg.
i love it all! and you.
I LOVE how honest you are. This post gave me a good laugh this afternoon. It was so nice to see a new post from you!! :) Trust me I know how the first trimester goes… all you want to do is lay in bed and eat carbs haha. Anyways… I need to add to you thought on BOOBS, I’m also a member of the IBTC. I always complained how small they were and never was able to fill out a shirt, until I got pregnant & became super annoyed because they were just in the way. Plus then you have to wear a bra haha While I nursing I couldn’t wait until the day I could go braless again, even though I loved everything else about nursing, one example, eating food nonstop without the weight gain! I will tell you now, I recently finished up nursing & I’m again a member of the IBTC.
Amen on the #fitpregnancy…though I have similar thoughts to #fitfluential tags too… :)
I hear ya on the big boob thing! I already have naturally large boobs (which I’ve always wished were smaller) and it freaks me out to think how much bigger they’re going to get when I become pregnant (someday). Eeekkk!
OMG I am so with you on the #fitpregnancy thing. I can barely have a #fitnotprego day. I don’t know how the hell I am going to do things when I’m pregnant. So fucking annoying (sorry Lindsay if you’re reading this!).
Also, BOOBS SUCK. I hate having gained weight because I hate boobs. I seriously hate them. The plus side of fake ones is that they don’t jiggle, and you don’t have to wear a bra (I have heard) so I guess that would be better than real ones in a weird way.
I’m a same-side sitter … we’re gross.
Haha, I’m dying laughing! Though, I must fully admit I’m guilty of the #fitpregnancy hashtag. I’ve actually used it to find other health-minded mommas to be, so I can’t say I’m not a fan, but I realize how it may be annoying for others to see it over and over again. Guilty as charged! ;)
#ihateboobstoo
I’m so glad you ranted about that! I NEVER understand why people want bigger. I’m not even pregnant and my boobs decided they wanted to grow three sizes bigger. you can’t even run comfortably. So lame.
I totally miss Melissa nibbles!!!! Last I knew she was going to move to detroit for a job which made me excited since I live in the D. But then she sort of disappeared. Any idea?
I am her friend on FB but I am not sure where she is living or anything!
