hey guys! didn’t post yesterday because i was busy living. and napping.
i worked eight hours and then came home, had two bowls of cereal, rice cakes with cottage cheese, and half a banana with peanut butter (carb loading, perhaps?) and had big plans to go to the gym.
and then i fell asleep for two hours. in my gym clothes. halfway through my nap, marshall pulled my vibrams off my feet and threw my favorite houndstooth blanket over me. love that boy.
i woke up at 8pm and i had a concert to go to around 10pm. i still had to make dinner (greek salads!) so i nixed the gym completely.
guess what else i nixed? blogging. and i couldn’t be happier about it. earlier in the day on wednesday i was wondering how i was going to squeeze writing a blog post into my evening, but then i read this post from katy. and, instead of spending an hour+ on writing a post “just because i post every day,” i wrote nothing at all.
nobody told me i had to post every night. blogging is not my job, it is my hobby. while i enjoy blogging each evening, it is by no means an obligation. that’s just silly. and kiiinda stupid, right? right. so if you are ever in the same boat and feel like you have to post just because it’s what you are used to doing, go read katy’s post. you’ll change your mind AND you will have more time on your hands.
speaking of time, i need more of it. i am going crazy with various life things and so i am turning the time over to another guest for some fabulous tips!

super stoked for this week’s guest.. MOMMA B!

momma b and her girls the night before my wedding.
i love my mom! i am so excited she agreed to give her three tips today. enjoy!
*******************************************************
I’m more than honored and excited that my sweet Janetha asked me to provide this week’s 3 Tip Thursday (I may also be a wee bit nervous!)
As most of you know, I am slightly older than most readers here and I’m not about to apologize for it! In fact it’s because of Janetha and her ability to keep me motivated that I am in better shape physically and mentally today than I was 25 years ago.
Being able to look back on a large portion of my life, I am able to reflect on some tips I learned from my mom and have hopefully been able to pass on to my children. They never knew my mom – she died quickly from cancer when I was 21 and she was a very young 50 – she was my best friend. I like to think that they know her through me because of the way I live!!
Tip 1: Be Nice
I am nice because of my mom – she taught me to “kill others with kindness!” It is a fun challenge when I encounter that surly or crabby person. Whether at a restaurant, the mall or a run-in with the occasional “snippy” realtor, I like to strike up a conversation or simply make small talk, or better yet compliment them on their shirt, hair, etc. Try it! Watch their eyes light up – you will have made their day. Added bonus…I guarantee you will feel better too!

My beautiful mom!
Tip 2: Be Honest
It only took me lying to my mom once to know I had really screwed up! The disappointment in her tone of voice and the look in her eyes spoke volumes – not to mention she made ME tell my dad about the lying episode. I was terrified to tell dad (insert possible yelling, grounding and of course fear of disappointing him too!) but to my surprise he spoke calmly, talked about trust, responsibility and honesty. That lesson has stayed with me for 45 years – I remember it like it was yesterday. Yes, he did ground me from my weekend activities! ;)

My cute parents!
Tip 3: Love Unconditionally
We are all different whether it is our looks, personality, characteristics, beliefs (religion – or not, politics – or not), eating, language, habits, the choices we make.. the list could go on and on. I try to love others in spite of their differences (maybe even because of their differences!) Some may make poor choices with terrible consequences. The most important lesson here is to love the person. Always, always, always love the person. We may be disappointed or angry with their choices and sad about the consequences. But the love they feel will be forever remembered when the choices and consequences are but a fleeting memory.

Our happy family!
There you go – 3 tips from Momma B! It is fun to share a glimpse of my life with you here on Janetha’s blog. One of the greatest compliments I have received from my husband (Papa Randall) was when he told me “You have become your mother!” She was a wonderful mom and friend she sure crammed a lot of teaching into the 21 short years we had together!! Hug someone you love really, really tight today. :)
xo. Momma B.
p.s. there is a $50 bob’s red mill gift card giveaway going on right now on the BLEND BLOG! get on it.

LOVE YOU. Like, depths of my soul love.
You rock momma b! You have a BEAUTIFUL family!
Those are great tips, and I try hard to live by those every day! But sometimes I need to remind myself to “be nice”. I have a slight case of road rage ;)
Amen. I just wrote something similar today. Blog about life, don’t live just to blog, and always stay true to yourself.
With that said, every time I read/see your mom, I love her more. If we lived in the same state I would totally find some way to weasel myself into your family, and not just because of the food.
LOVED Katy’s post!!
LOVED Momma B’s tips! Is it weird that I want her to come to BLEND? Momma B – stow away in JG’s luggage and come see me!
Don’t think I haven’t given it some serious thought Lindsay!!
Aw I <3 momma b! She's full of great advice, like most moms are!
I've definitely fallen into the "posting just because" trap before, but I'm thankful to say I won't post if i don't want to anymore – which is why you will rarely ever see weekend posts from me anymore!
Momma B warms my heart. Just knowing that people like her exist makes me feel a little bit safer and more hopeful!! <3 you both.
Every time I read a post from your mom it makes me choked up because she seems like such a GREAT mom and reminds me much of my own!
Always happy to hear from momma b. <3
youre just slightly older momma b, but you look like your 30 AND JUST PLAIN HAWT! I love it.
p.s.
JG, i don’t blog everyday, I’m not that exciting. But i think naps and life are way better anywho.
;-)
Momma B! You rock :) Love the guest post. Great tips and adore that you learned so many important lessons from your mama.
Janetha- Glad you didn’t blog yesterday. I can’t believe there was a point in time when I blogged every day…I’m so bad about it now!
Gosh I just love Momma B! :) Thanks for sharing her wise advice. <3
I tell you , you know that Momma B? She is a wise woman I tell you ;)
Love this post, all 3 things are very true and tips that I take to heart! You are a beautiful person momma b and have raised a beautiful family!
What a beautiful family pic! I adore it!
Glad you allowed yourself the day off from blogging!
And GREAT tips, Momma B!
Momma B, I love the photos of your mom and dad you included. Sounds like your mom was an amazing woman. I agree about being nice, it’s so important. (Especially in the real estate world…buying a house has been so confusing for my husband and me. When escrow, loan, realtors, and creditors are nice, it calms me down and makes the process so much better.)
Loved the tips! :)
Oh Amanda I hope you ended up having a great experience buying your home! It can be stressful but doesn’t need to be – I tell my clients it should be an fun and exciting time in their lives – and fortunately most of the deals are :) Congratulations on your new home!!
Love this post. Your mom is so wise and amazing.
Yes to living life, it’s ok to take time off and unplugged. It’s all good!
umm this may be slightly inappropriate but DAYUM your grandfather was a hottie! hahaha sorry I had to say it ;)
Excellent tips! I agree with all of them. :)
Love this post for 2 reasons: living vs blogging and the 3 tips.
Beautiful tips from a beautiful lady – no wonder Janetha is so wonderful, she has you for a Mom! I try to do all of these things, but Lord knows, sometimes #3 is really tough!! Thank you though and I love all of the pictures of your parents. Pictures like that are so beautiful to me.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom!
Janetha – Kudos for living and not forcing a blog post!
So cute! So true! And such a pretty family. :)
Simply beautiful – just like you Momma B!
Love Katy’s post – it’s SO TRUE. And your mom gives incredible advice. Such beautiful old photos! Thanks for the fantastic reminders.
Also, I am not sure exactly when you added your Instagram feed but I just noticed it today and am OBSESSED. Is it a plugin?
oh girl, our blogging schedule is all over the place. we never blog at the same time like so many say you are supposed too, but life gets in the way. and saying sorry is something we both need to work on too!!
I still remember the first (and only) time I ever told an outright lie to my mom. I was eight. I felt so guilty and sad at the thought that she would find out and be hurt and disappointed that I never did it again. I love my mom!
Your mom sounds amazing. Those were some lovely tips from her!
As for blogging, I make it a goal to blog as much as possible but not everyday if I can’t. Sometimes, I like to leave a couple days between entries if I want it to be up at the top of my homepage for a while for more exposure.
I wondered where you were yesterday :) I did miss you posting but I am SO glad you took the day off. You are a well balanced blogger and I’m proud of you for that (and you’ve got your carbs as a priority too haha)
Sweet Marshall for taking such good care of you – sure do love you two!! xoxo
Momma B looks just like her momma!! Thanks for such a heartwarming post!
Mama B rocks! All very good tips and even though they are simple and easy, it’s nice to have a little reminder sometimes :)
I haven’t blogged in a week and it felt a little foreign to me doing so tonight….but in a good way. Sometimes you just gotta enjoy life and not worry about posting, I love it!
Those tips were beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing!
Great tips, Momma B! I couldn’t agree more…with all of them! Love the picture of your beautiful family. xoxo
Thanks Katie – they’re a pretty great bunch :)
LOVE this post!! Love love love.
So FUN! Great tips Momma B! I definitely agree with each and every one of them! Janetha (and your other beautiful children) are definitely lucky to have you!
Loved what Momma B had to say. She might be surprised to know that some readers of this blog are a few(maybe quite a few) years older than Janetha. I am in my 50’s. The message her is timeless. I admire Janetha so much. It seems the lessons your mom taught you have been passed on to your lovely daughter.
Thanks Leslie…I agree Janetha is quite a remarkable gal! I’m glad to know she’s snagging all age groups :)
me too me too. i often feel a little weird reading all the 20 something blogs… LOL I’m 45 (gasp!)
Great job, Momma B… maybe you should get yourself a blog ;o)
YOUR momma b is amazing!! LOVE these tips :)
Best post ever! Love what you said about blogging, J, and love you Momma B for what you said about unconditional love. We are so blessed to have that kind of love, it’s only right that we love others that way too. <3
And you my dear are a perfect example of that kind of love! xo
love momma b! wish she could be our realtor!! it’s funny how few people there are that think about these three tips!!
I would have loved to be your realtor – we would have had so much fun!!!
Your mama rocks! Aren’t moms the best for killer advice! I appreciate mine so much! And agree with every single tip :)
Awww, Momma B, you make me smile. The family photo makes me smile too. You are all so adorable. I want to climb on in that photo with you :)
Shout-out to Momma b for some great tips!!! Being kind, honest, and loving unconditionally are fundamental to being a great person. I am a big one for manners too…I think they are just as important. My dad always says to ‘Mind your P’s and Q’s’ which means always say please and thank you. Parents give out some good advice :)
Momma B you are so WISE! Thank you for sharing with all of us. Your parents were gorgeous! You look just like your mom and sounds like you resemble her in character too.
Love what you said about letting your daughters know her through you. I lost my mom to cancer when I was 22, she was 42, and it always makes me sad that she didn’t get to meet them or spoil them silly.
But you’re right! That means I get to do it! Thank you for that golden nugget :)
Boy Becky can I ever relate to that! All my mom wanted was a ton of grand kids and when she died she had 3. My oldest was only 5 months old. I’m sure without even knowing it you are passing on things you learned from your mom! You’re awesome!
Aww Momma B your adorable! It’s amazing how these simple things really get lost in the shuffle sometimes- but they are so very important! Thank you for reminding me :)
Yep Coco – gems to live by for sure!!
Wow… I’m crying! you will never know how much i relate to this post. I lost my mom 2 days after my 21st birthday to a two year battle with lung cancer and she taught me so much. I also have two children (6 and 7yr olds) who never got the pleasure to meet her and hope that they know her through me and the way I live! Thank you for sharing!! I didn’t think I could think you (momma B) were any more amazing, but you proved me wrong!
Jen I’m sorry you lost your mom too – cancer is such a horrible disease! You can and will for sure help your cute kiddos to know your mom…..I know I have always said “man my mom would have loved you” or “boy would Nannaw be laughing about that” (that was her grandma name :)) I’m glad for being able to share memories! I’m sure you are a terrific mom! xoxo
Thanks for your kind words! I love seeing your and Janetha’s close relationship! Makes me miss my mom but also warms my heart and makes me thankful for the amazing relationships I have in my life! xoxo
LOVE this post, thanks momma b! It actually got me a little choked up :).
P.S.-Hi Janetha! Not sure if you remember me but I blogged for a bit at beautyandthe beef but have stopped. I’m still a reader of yours though!
Thanks for continuing to read! Of course I remember!
LOVE!
Love this post from Momma B! Definitely three things I needed to be reminded of. I was tempted to throw a post together last night even though I didn’t do much of anything after work and decided to just skip it. Glad I did! :)
Thanks, Momma B!! I could not agree more. I especially adore tips 1 and 3. They are two of my philosophies of life, and are so integrally related. Truthfully, love is what this whole ride is all about!!! Great guest post!
Awww this post is awesomely sweet — Momma B rocks!
My mom always taught me to kill ’em with kindness too — especially the ones you really don’t like. I’ve been known to win over some of the toughest customers.
Thanks for the 3 tips!
First of all, Janetha- the fact that you go to concerts at 10 pm makes me want to pull out my walker right now! Man, 10 pm is SO LATE!! :)
And Momma B, I love your tips. They are so simple, yet SO important. You are such an inspiration – we can all see where Janetha gets it from!
what a great post momma b!
i love the photo of your mom and dad…you can really see that you got your smile from your mom :) she was a beautiful lady – and it sounds like on the inside as well!
Thanks Elaine – she was a pretty awesome lady!
Great job Momma B!
Such an inspirational three tips..Totally agree on the loving unconditionally.
Love meals and moves blogggg!
Great tips Momma B! And I love the photos of your mom, parents, and family :)
