tuesday’s entirety.

in day job,meals,moves

i have no idea when the last time i blogged about my entire day was. if i said it’s been over a year, i probably would be right. it’s hard to believe that when i started meals & moves, i detailed every single bit of every single day. how tedious for me.. and how boring for you! (although you probably weren’t reading way back then.)

despite the effort, i do like the occasional documentation of entire days. but this doesn’t happen often because i have way too much other junk to blog about! this mind of mine.. full of things to ramble about.. the wheels are always turning.

but today, i am going to tell you about my whole day. because it’s tuesday. because it’s gloomy out. because i ate really good food but nothing worthy of devoting a recipe post to. because my workout was fun. because i like to use lots of words to turn a whole lot of nothing into a whole lot of something. and because i do what i want.

my three alarms went off between 6:12 and 6:27 AM, and after pressing snooze a few times i opted to turn the alarms off completely. marshall got up and going, but i rolled over and slept for another hour. finally, at 7:34, i made myself get up. not so i could get ready for work, but because i really had to pee.

once up, i did manage to stay up and do a half-assed job of putting myself together enough that i would be deemed “work appropriate”.. whatever that is. all i know is i’m glad leggings are acceptable work attire and equally as glad that wearing them makes me feel like i am still in my PJs. marshall had to bolt because his job today was far away, so i ended up blending juice for me, myself, and i instead of the usual his-and-hers double batch. it had an orange, ~20 frozen grapes, ~15 baby carrots, 5 celery stalks, 2 mini cucumbers, and 3 cups of spinach.

IMG_4020

the kids didn’t get any. they managed to break into their dog food bin last night and were beyond bloated all night.. they even woke marshall up at 4:30 because they were thirsty. needless to say, they didn’t get ANY breakfast. (but yes, i still said it. what is with that phrase, “needless to say”? people always say it before saying whatever that apparently does NOT need to be said. so the phrase is really pointless and a waste of space and/or breath… moving on.)

where was i? oh yeah, this morning. in the kitchen. i grabbed my pills. here is the lineup:

IMG 0016

i can’t take a multivitamin without food because it makes me gaggy, so i had a chobani champs before swallowing all the pills.

IMG_4014

ahh! this is my favorite champs flavor. i can’t find it in stores, but chobani sent me a bunch of the orange vanilla. it’ll be a sad day when these flavorful fun packs run out.

i packed up the pups and hit the road.

photo

notice the slicked-bangs-with-top-knot hairdo for the day. that’s what i do when i am lazy and don’t want to shower or wash my hair in the AM. (settle down, i showered last night after the gym.) even though i love this quick hairdo, i subject myself to ridicule at the office by rocking it. today both of my bosses had something to say. one kept telling me i had something sprouting out of my head and the other told me i look exactly like i dream of jeannie. hi-larious.

so! the kiddos were eager to get to doggy daycare, they hadn’t been since last wednesday. i had to help the long one out of the way back (that is what i call the very, very back of my car.. does anyone else call it way back? or is it just me and my fam?) because, well, he may be long, but he is also short. i don’t want him hurting his back with any major jumps.

photo (2)

after dropping them off, i headed to my office where i proceeded to get TONS of stuff done. month end is just around the corner and that means my to-do list is a lot longer than usual. luckily i was really motivated this morning and, in addition to my usual daily tasks, i managed to get payroll and sales tax done way before they are due. go me.

lunch time came and i realized that i hadn’t consumed a drop of water yet. oh man, i’ve been slacking big time on water. shame on me. i filled up my contigo and grabbed my lunch.

IMG_4022IMG_4023

i made a sandwich this morning. it had peppered turkey, colby jack cheese, romaine, dijon mustard, and hot sweet mustard. i used sunflower market’s sourdough bread which is incredible! although i do want to try my hand at homemade sourdough.. one of these days.

IMG_4025

my boss came in as i was eating my sandwich and said something like, “WOW! that sandwich is a double decker! it doesn’t look like your usual healthy fare of green goop, what’s up with that?” sigh. this is the life i lead. the peanut gallery always has something to say about my food. (and my hair..) but instead of trying to defend my green goop and double decker sandwiches, i’ve learned to deal with it (by telling people to go away, and that is just what i told my boss today, and then he told me that i am mean. look who’s talkin!)

i hydrated responsibly after lunch and managed to drink another 48 ounces of water before calling it a day. i also managed to have a snack! a couple rice cakes with sunflower seed butter. this is a favorite combo of mine. usually i will add cottage cheese on top, but i didn’t have any at the office.

IMG_4027

when i told my boss (not the one who called my lunch unhealthy, the other one) that i was going to go have some rice cakes, he made a disgusted face and told me i might as well go eat a piece of vinyl from the shop. (i work at a vinyl window company.) yes, folks, i deal with the peanut gallery all day. luckily i do have a few co-workers that are on the same page as me with eating habits.. it’s my only saving grace.

i was happy when it was quitting time and even happier to pick up these two furry sweeties. they had such a fun day at daycare and i knew they would be tired and cuddly the rest of the night. when i got home i couldn’t get cottage cheese with rice cakes off my brain, so i had that combo upon walking in the door.

IMG 0014

like i mentioned earlier, marshall’s job was far away today. about four hours away. sad. i knew he’d be home late, so i took my sweet time between getting home from work and going to the gym. this probably wasn’t the wisest decision since the later it gets, the more crowded (and more douchey) my gym gets.. but that was a risk i was clearly willing to take. it also wasn’t a good idea because as i lollygagged, i also snacked on random things just because i was in the kitchen. bad habit.. must break. among the random bites were 1/2 a banana with peanut butter, a few pita chips, and a hunk of dave’s killer bread sprouted baguette. i will be sad when this thing is gone–i bought it at a costco roadshow but my costco doesn’t carry it on the regular.

IMG 0004

i finally decided to head to the gym. i mixed up my FAVORITE gym beverage—fitmixer BCAAs + water + ice—and headed to gold’s. fun fact: i am heading to the fitmixer offices tomorrow for lunch!

IMG 0006

i decided to do a back workout because it just felt right. i used a few moves from phase 2 of livefit and added in a few of my own. here are the details:

Screen Shot 2012 03 27 at 9 42 51 PM

i ran into candice at the gym.. she was getting ready to teach bodypump, which i am still too scared to try. she spotted me doing rows and paid me the compliment of telling me i had great back definition. it made me feel warm and fuzzy, thanks C i love ya.

i also did 20 minutes of HIIT on the treadmill that went something like this:

Screen Shot 2012 03 27 at 9 58 45 PM

after my workout i had to head to the store to grab chicken, almond milk, chobani, cereal, spices, and avocado. i was getting real hungry so i raced home and got to work on dinner: chicken enchiladas. i followed my usual non-recipe recipe but subbed in red enchilada sauce because it’s been sitting in my pantry for way too long.

IMG 0019

i had been wanting to make tina’s restaurant-style salsa for weeks now, so i whipped a batch up and it did not disappoint! it also made a LOT, like tina mentioned it would, so now i have two big mason jars full of fresh salsa. come on over!

IMG 0021

marshall got home at 8 but still had to head to the gym.  when he got home from working out at 9:45 he was happy to have a tasty mexican meal waiting for him. i didn’t wait to eat.. i have no manners and i was hungry! dinner was ready at nine, i ate at 9:05.

IMG 0058

i could eat enchiladas, chips, and salsa multiple times a week.

i typed this post while marshall ate dinner. and, as expected, the pups are totally pooped.

IMG 0033IMG 0036

my sweet tooth just kicked in, so i went to the kitchen to find some dessert. this diva approved mojo bar should do the trick!

IMG 0025

WHEW. and that, friends, was my entire tuesday.

that was way freaking long. and probably boring. and why i no longer document my whole day on a regular basis.

:) Ah, yes the dirty hair bun. That is how I roll

Jessiker March 27, 2012 at 10:31 pm

You’re so cute. I hate justifying anything I do. I would be annoyed. I miss you. That smoothie looks baller. I’m gonna give it a whirl, girl.

TheHungeredOne@MovingandMunching March 27, 2012 at 10:31 pm

sounds like a busy day! yep I know how the bun goes… I hate it though since my hair is long the bun is hugeeee. looks so stupid. ugh i would get so annoyed at coworkers like that. lol

I have never seen Chobani champions anywhere! It sounds really good though!

meggi March 27, 2012 at 10:34 pm

Busy day! I heavily rely on Rockaholic dry shampoo! If I shower in the morning, I have to use that stuff to go out at night. Terrible, I know :)

Momma b March 27, 2012 at 10:37 pm

I love you play by play day to day! You accomplish a lot in a day!
I missed commenting yesterday so for the win I got ALL of my laundry washed folded AND put away hooray for me!!!

But waking up to a dark snowy cold day almost liked me!!

Why is there a large Follow Me right where I’m trying to type this comment??

The end.
I love you
xo

meg March 27, 2012 at 10:39 pm

Oh girl, YOU of all people shouldn’t fear body pump. I LOVE it and I really think you would too!

Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl March 27, 2012 at 10:44 pm

Glad to hear the vanilla orange Cho is good. I have 8 cartons of it waiting to be tried. maybe for dessert.
Like the back workout. I just did some 20# bent over two dumbbell rows yesterday. Feeling the DOMS!

And we are both slacking on the water big time. I’ll make it up tomorrow. ;)

BTW, ur dogs are funny. breaking into the food bin…

Momma b March 27, 2012 at 10:44 pm

Almost killed me haha!!!

Jen March 27, 2012 at 11:05 pm

If you want to see some real d bags at the gym you need to see the golds gym in west jordan it makes the b-town douches look humbled!

lynn @ the actor's diet March 27, 2012 at 11:05 pm

i’ve still never tried dave’s bread. i love the packaging!

Candice March 27, 2012 at 11:11 pm

I seriously was impressed with your back.. I almost took a pic… (would of that been creepy).. Missed you in pump.. next time.. ;) Got to love golds and the 5pm “crew” of crazies..
xoxo

Ugh- I always get comments on my lunch at work from the “peanut gallery,” too. I usually rotate between a salad and a sweet potato, and I’ll admit… the container that I bring the salad in IS pretty big, but it’s mainly because I put a lot of good stuff in it and it’s just easier to mix it and eat it from. But it never fails, someone always will say, “WHOA, that’s a HUGE salad!” I have to refrain myself from going off on a tangent that sounds something like, “Yes it is, but it’s mainly vegetables, people..those are healthy. 2- I workout a good amount so I need some quality nourishment. 3- I’m sure it’s better for my body than the pizza/burrito/double decker BLT you just ate. 4- I’m tall so I just require more calories (okay that may not be a good reason, but why do I need to justify this at all!?)
And then the sweet potato thing just gets lots of comments like; “What’s in there?” “Is that all you’re having?” “Where’d you come up with that idea?” Once again, I kind of just throw a lot of different things (pb, hummus, cottage cheese, sunflower seeds) in there and that always gets people going.
However, it’s not going to stop me from eating my delicious and healthy food at work- I’m proud of it and maybe it will give people some ideas on how to get creative with their lunches and try something they normally wouldn’t!

Lauren March 28, 2012 at 4:48 am

I absolutely HATE eating lunch at my desk for that exact reason. People are so damn annoying! LoL

Your day does sound delicious and now I’m craving enchiladas. I’ve bought all of the ingredients but keep forgetting to make them.

Sierra March 28, 2012 at 4:50 am

I also get some comments like, “wow, thats a big salad” in the lunch room. Seriously? Eat your own damn lunch and stop looking at mine. Another comment, “you eat a lot…but I mean it seems healthy” Be responsible for yourself. My only comment is when something smells good. I want to know what it is.

Kellie March 28, 2012 at 4:51 am

That’s the reason I don’t eat in the lunchroom at work. I eat at my desk. In my office. With the door closed. :)

Stacey March 28, 2012 at 8:37 am

I do the same thing — and I hate having to hide while I eat my good, healthy, wholesome food. I don’t comment on their cardboard frozen meals or fast food, so why do they feel the need to comment on mine? People always wonder why I’m “tiny”; perhaps you should look at what goes in my mouth compared to yours. It’s not rocket science people!

RunningISMyDiet March 28, 2012 at 12:43 pm

A-FREAKING-MEN. I get made fun of for being “skinny” at work too. It’s not like I shove fast food in my mouth every day and stay this size.

katie March 28, 2012 at 5:05 am

That bar is damn well diva approved! My fave! <3

Oh when I worked at a car dealership I ALWAYS would get picked on at lunch time, there were certain days too when it was the WRONG day to pick on me, lol! Those boys learned fast ;)

Love you!

Lauren @ What Lauren Likes March 28, 2012 at 5:08 am

what a day! Hahaha i love the high bun look :)

Brittany March 28, 2012 at 5:24 am

I love the top knot look. I’ve been rocking it for years so I’m excited it’s now popular.

Don’t let your bosses stop you. (I know you won’t but that’s just the comment that came to mind.) :)

Nescett @ bananaoats March 28, 2012 at 6:00 am

Completely not boring. :)

Errign March 28, 2012 at 6:19 am

How do you make your workout tables? Mine always look like crapola!

Lee March 28, 2012 at 6:25 am

When my hair was longer, I used to wear it in a top knot a lot and Jason always called it my antenna.

I’m very lucky at my job because my boss eats like I do. I’m so used to people making fun of my food that it’s strange to not be in that situation. Honestly, she and I had a 10 minute ichat discussion about shirataki noodles yesterday.

Michelle M March 28, 2012 at 6:26 am

I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to Contigo. I finally ordered some for all three of my kids, my husband and me. We love them. The kids are drinking a lot more water lately, just because their water bottles are so cool! We have about 500 water bottles in our house, but these will be replacing the rest.

janetha March 28, 2012 at 3:28 pm

Yes! I love Contigo so much!

Sarah @ The Healthy Diva March 28, 2012 at 6:30 am

You are one busy girl!!! I’m tired just thinking about all you got done. I’m a total mexican food lover too…i could eat it everyday for like ever and really wouldn’t get tired of it. But I use my better judgement and have more variety instead

Jessica March 28, 2012 at 6:35 am

I am really intrigued by this doggy daycare thing. We are seriously thinking about getting another dog so Mac has a friend to keep him company, but I”m not sure how the whole “walking two dogs” thing would go…

janetha March 28, 2012 at 3:32 pm

You should seriously look into it! Best investment ever.

Brittany Brie March 28, 2012 at 6:50 am

Hey Lady!
Totally off subject, however tidbit worthy. I recently visited a back cracker and hip-popper due to some massive pelvic/stomache issues. My body was outta of alignment, and as the puppetmaster is a doing his thing a light bulb went off! My friend who was having similar issues to yours, went to a chiropractor and turned out it was her bodies alignment issues. So anyways, she’s fine now, and her bodies colon isn’t laxy anymore. I am not a docter, I am a avid reader who likes everyone to be able to function correctly.
Thanks for listening to my rambles. :)

janetha March 28, 2012 at 3:33 pm

That is really interesting! Thank you for the info.

Tamara March 29, 2012 at 7:21 am

I used to work for a chiropractor and I’ve seen patients have similar and dramatic improvements for such issues as well. Sorry I didn’t think to mention it, but a light bulb went off when I read Brittany’s comment!

betty March 28, 2012 at 6:53 am

i love the -do. ive been in the ‘i-dont-care-my-hair-is-going-up-because-i-have-5-mins-to-get-ready” kick lately. glad you have a blanket in the back so you dont have to pay for anymore excessive dog hair removal :)

barbara and i have date night at mexican once a week.. we love the fresh made guac. mmm..

Meghan Rene March 28, 2012 at 6:58 am

I love using Trader Joe’s sauces for my cooking! I haven’t found one I haven’t enjoyed. I think tonight we are using an Indian one.

PS – I LOVE RICE CAKES!!!!!

Erica March 28, 2012 at 7:02 am

I can’t find that Chobani flavor either! Bahhh! I need it ;). I like the top knot- super cute. Oh puppers- so naughty :) And now I want Mexican food

Greta @ Staying Lost March 28, 2012 at 7:06 am

I hate it when coworkers or bosses make comments about what I’m eating! Even when they’re just asking what on earth I’m eating, I don’t like feeling like I have to explain my food during my lunch break. Yuck.

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List March 28, 2012 at 7:11 am

Like I always say, my favorite type of J post!

Chloe (In Fine Feather) March 28, 2012 at 7:37 am

That’s crazy that Marshall works so far away & but it definitely makes sense why you guys usually eat so late with your busy schedules!
I don’t know how to respond to people who make comments on my food, even just normal ones like “that is SO healthy”. What do I say to that? “Thanks” “Yes it is” or “I try and take care of my body every day but sometimes I eat crap and right now you’re just catching me at a good point?”

Janetha April 5, 2012 at 1:05 pm

Luckily he doesn’t work far away very often! He is a window installer but most of our jobs are local.

Maren March 28, 2012 at 7:38 am

As a matter of fact, I DID read your blog when you used to document everything! I enjoyed it…but I enjoy it now too! It definitely taught me a lot about how/when to eat. I owe my healthy lifestyle to you girl! But you already knew that :) Happy Wednesday!

Angela March 28, 2012 at 7:39 am

I totally feel you on the peanut gallery at work! I bring some form of oatmeal to work for breakfast every day and my boss makes the same “ugh” face and comments every single day. It is definitely annoying but what can you really do. But unlike you, I haven’t managed to find people at work that share similar eating habits. :(

Cat @ Breakfast to Bed March 28, 2012 at 7:44 am

I had cheddar soy crisps dipped in jam today-try it.

Deirdre March 28, 2012 at 8:10 am

My family ALWAYS called it the way back. So you’re really cool. Fortunately, my co-workers don’t say anything about my healthy eats, but since I don’t wear a lot of makeup if I wear eyeliner AND blush to work they always assume I have a date that night. I wish!

Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning March 28, 2012 at 8:22 am

I personally loved reading about your day in its entirety. :)
Why are you scared to do Bodypump? It’s not scary- you will LOVE it! And you will rock it out!
I absolutely hate when people make comments about my food. I stopped eating lunch with co-workers because of that, and just eat alone. My father-in-law also always comments about how HUGE my salads are and says “WOW! Are you going to eat ALL that?!?!” Why yes I am.
That flavor of Mojo bar is my fave- well, maybe it’s tied with the white chocolate macadamia.
Have fun at the fitmixer offices!

NICOLE March 28, 2012 at 8:40 am

Random thought- I know that you were trying to cut out coffee for your guts. I think that caffeine is a culprit in problems with digestion. Have you checked the ingredients in your One a Day? The active motabolism/Weight Loss ones often have caffeine in them. I only know because caffeine gives me migraines, and I accidentally started taking them a few months ago and WHEW, that was a real “headache.” Ha.. ha.. ha. Anyway, just wanted to point it out! And PS your dogs are so ridiculously cute.

Janetha April 5, 2012 at 12:25 pm

Interesting! Thanks for the random thought.

Carly March 28, 2012 at 8:42 am

My gym must be the opposite of yours. Right after work is when it’s douchey. If I wait until about 6:15 it’s perfect. The weight area is small, so whenever there is more than 6 people I feel overcrowded. Love the empty days.

Question: I start phase 3 of LiveFit next week and am terrified of the sprints. Level 8 just seems so fast to me. I’m not scared to necessarily run that fast, but am afraid I’ll trip or fall off the treadmill. Do you get used to the speed pretty quickly?

Janetha April 5, 2012 at 12:20 pm

Level 8 doesnt mean MPH.. it means a level 8 according to your own RPE scale.. so on a scale of 1-10, just make sure you are going fast enough to rate your exertion at an 8 :)

clare @ fittingitallin March 28, 2012 at 8:52 am

most definitely call it the way back.

Kailey March 28, 2012 at 9:10 am

I can’t believe we used to post like this ALL the time. That’s how everyone posted! I still love posts like this, but every once in a while. I don’t think it’s boring at all! I just know it takes forEVER to write these types of posts!

Love ya!

the delicate place March 28, 2012 at 9:25 am

oh yeah multi vits make me puke if i take it on an empty stomach. i stopped taking them since i think i get all my nutrients from food but man. i remember those days in high school first period. people prob thought i was pregnant lol.

oh i did a very similar treadmill run this morning (after 2 days of being a slug)! this is sad but i feel like i am BUSTING it at 8.5. however, i’d rather get it over with in 20mins than drag it out. it’s funny i actually don’t *mind* running in my vffs but I STILL don’t want to run a long time :)

nate <3s that enchi. sauce from tjs. he puts it on everything like huge slabs of cheese that he throws on the grill for a minute to leave marks.

you don't even want to see my hair right now. it' so dirty that i managed to form it into this style: http://pinterest.com/pin/203576845626010910/

Tamara March 28, 2012 at 9:32 am

Ooh, excited to hear about your fitmixer visit. Great post, as always!

BeckyA March 28, 2012 at 9:47 am

Sales and payroll taxes done already? *high five* from a fellow accountant!

Thanks for sharing your supplements. I have been increasing my supplements as I read and learn and there are some days I wonder about the number of bottles in my cupboard!

Oh and mojo bars are the bomb diggity ;)

Jenna Z March 28, 2012 at 10:14 am

Ugh, I totally hear you about the peanut gallery commenting on food. I get it from my sister ALL the time, she says my shakes, smoothies and oatmeal concoctions look like baby poop and she is always saying how there is ABSOLUTELY no way, being vegetarian, that I get enough protein. I am so sick of it! Luckily, I’m mostly safe at work, but where I used to work people were just like that too. “Where’s the meat?” “Ew, that green slime is gross.” I don’t comment on how disgusting your fast food is, why do they have to say anything at all?

Miz March 28, 2012 at 10:28 am

annnd now I wanna spend the day with you.
and document my day again as I SO THINK I can top you on the excitementmeter :)
the lackthereof meter.

Amanda March 28, 2012 at 10:47 am

I want to blog a full day of eats again. But it’s so hard for me now. I never seem to get around to it and usually it’s way too many pictures to sort through and the blog gets so…lame.

Still haven’t had that Champs flavor. I haven’t seen it here either.

Gotta love comments re: food. When I worked with adult people (as opposed to children) the comments were always coming. My personal favorite..”KA-KNOW-WA? Looks like pebbles of dirt to me.” Re: my quinoa salad.

Jess @ Blonde Ponytail March 28, 2012 at 10:47 am

Hopefully the kids worked off their extra calories at doggie day care. And, do you prefer to workout in the evening? Ever a morning exerciser?

Janetha April 5, 2012 at 1:05 pm

I tried and tried to be a morning worker outer and CAN’T hack it.

lindsay March 28, 2012 at 10:50 am

At least you washed your hair. I haven’t washed mine in 4 days and been wearing a hat. Ya, i’m sexy… like that sexy back workout.

Your days are never boring JG. As bloggers we get a thrill out of someone’s play by play.

Love ya!
