hello and welcome to wednesday. and not just any wednesday.. it’s national potato chip day!
i was going to write a normal post with a giveaway at the end, but then i got distracted by a new website. and i proceeded to look at page after page after page. and then i laughed until i cried.
a few favorites?

and we can’t leave out this one:

okay, okay, ONE MORE.

oh man.
if you go to that site, you WILL waste time. but you will laugh, so that’s like therapy, which isn’t wasted time. right? right.
so now, instead of posting actual content, how about a popchips giveaway? you know, in honor of national potato chip day!

i have been a fan of popchips for years. they aren’t baked, they aren’t fried.. they really are POPPED! to see how popchips are made, check out this video:
when you choose popchips over regular old fried potato chips, you are eliminating lots of calories and fat, but you are NOT eliminating taste. actually, i prefer popchips over any other chip and all the flavors are delicious.
popchips recently sent me a one month supply and i have fallen in love with their three new to me flavors: parmesan garlic, sweet potato, and chili lime.

the only one i haven’t yet tracked down is the jalapeño potato. can’t wait to find it!
my favorite way to eat popchips is paired with cottage cheese. i grew up eating lay’s potato chips dipped in either cottage cheese or sour cream, straight from the container. momma b and i would easily polish off a whole container of cottage cheese or sour cream, just sitting there, snacking the day away. this snack really takes me back to my childhood.

hmm.. thinking about it a bit more, i bet these would be amazing dipped in plain greek yogurt—which tastes just like sour cream! i am trying that next.
anyway, a few more fun facts about popchips:
- each bag is only 100 calories
- no oil is used in the popping process
- the ingredients are all natural and there are zero preservatives
- they are gluten free and kosher and most flavors are vegan
- they are very low in sodium
i can’t rave about popchips enough. not only are they tasty, but the company is fabulous. they donated tons of their tasty chips to the great fundraising act to help raise money for susan’s cancer back in july. they are always friendly and interact with their fans. they are also a sponsor of blend retreat and we will be cramming the swag bags full of popchips in may!
okay, enough talk. giveaway time. popchips has offered one meals & moves reader to receive a one month supply of popchips!

to enter, leave a comment telling me what food/snack/meal reminds you of your childhood. bonus points if you tell the story behind why.. i am a sucker for memories.
oh yeah, and i will announce the winner on monday the 19th.
happy snacking!

Fig Newtons! (ironically, we had a fig tree in my backyard, but I didn’t know it until I was a bit older… and then it attacked the maple tree next to it and they both had to be taken down (sad face)). And chewy chips ahoy “baked” in the microwave. I don’t even want to think about how many of those things I ate. Goldfish too. I know the whole song. Oh god, and doritos in the assortment box. My bro and I each had our understood picks of the bunch. Great. Now look what you’ve started.
And the Sweet Chili Lime and the Sweet Potato pop chips are sooooo good. And really good with greek yogurt.
Yay for a giveaway! I actually don’t like chips or salty stuff but I’m always looking for healthy ways to replace my Dad’s chip addiction.
Double stuffed oreos definitely remind me of my childhood. I only got them when I went to my Grandma’s house. My 2 cousins and I would make up treasure hunts for one another and the end prize would be oreos! We put so much effort into making rhyming and clever clues….so much fun =)
Nilla Wafers are one snack/cookie that bring me back to my childhood every time I see them. I don’t eat them anymore, but I don’t need to, the memories are good enough. When I was a little girl I would go visit my grandparents and sometimes stay with them for the weekend. I remember that almost every time I would come to their house my granddad would have a plate of Nilla Wafers out with two glasses of milk, and we would sit at the kitchen table and dip the wafers in the milk and eat them. It’s one of my favorite memories of me and my granddad. Thinking about it makes me smile! :)
Cheez-its were big in my childhood (and still are…who am I kidding). They started at the babysitters and then I finally convinced my parents to buy and I’m now permanently addicted :)….
My mom grew up in India so her curry reminds me of growing up. No matter where I am when I smell curry I’m transported back to my childhood home. I americanized mine by adding golden raisins, coconut, and peanuts. I also ate it with a buttered tortilla instead or naan or roti. Delish!
Goldfish (the cheddar ones) remind me of childhood because when I got home from school in middle school, I liked to eat a bowl of goldfish and drink a glass of orange juice. Somehow this is a perfect combination.
holy cow – a month’s supply of my favorite chip? ecstasy! (salt & pepper – my fave)…so my childhood snack – sunflower seeds (and mountain dew) I would sit on the floor, resting in front of the recliner, and eat salted (in the shell) sunflower seeds and drink mountain dew after mountain dew (10 oz. bottles, no less)…. Times have changed. I haven’t drank soda pop in 13 years but I do bust out some seeds every so often!
good humor bars remind me of childhood. i miss the ice cream man!!!
peanut butter cups – specifically the eggs around easter time! they are my mom’s favorite and she passed a love of chocolate and peanut butter on to me:)
BBQ Chicken on the grill. Not the skinless, boneless variety. No sir BAYBE. My dad grilled something on our grill every night. In the summer, I would be running around the neighborhood with my best friend all day long. I knew it was time to pack up my Strawberry Shortcake dolls and slap on my jelly shoes and come home for dinner when I smelled the chicken on the grill. Every have grilled gizzards? Good times.
My fav snack when I was a kid was celery with pb and raisins ontop. My mom would have them waiting for me when I got home.
The food that reminds me most of my childhood would have to be fish sticks!!! We were pretty poor growing up, and I don’t remember ever eating any other kind of fish, but dang those fish sticks were goooooood! Slathered in sweet, gooey ketchup :)
Smores flavor Quaker Chewy granola bars remind of my childhood because I ate one in my lunchbox every single day :D
hey! oh man…so this def got me thinking…what was the one snack that i completely fell in love with …. when i was kid i went through crazy combitonations of foods to put together…i came home from school 12 years ranging metabolism (so wish i had that still) mom didnt go grocery shopping yet so i couldnt find anything to eat and im starved…my brother had a lunch size doritos from school…i took it…figuring out hmm what can i dip this in? behold the greatest combitionation ever…peanut butter!!! it became an absolute obbsession of this snack….so friggn good, nobody believed me when i said how good it tasted but it became my staple my go to snack! then i turned 15 and wondered why i was gaining wait…hmm maybe it was all those dorito and pbs snack yep i totally blame it them! BUT POPCHIPS? …PB…havent thought of it until now! maybe in the future to bring back that old familair yumminesss!
Hmmm.. First of all.. Your blog is awesome. Secondly, my favorite childhood snack would have to be cold winnies.. Sounds awf.. But trust me.. Those cold Winnie dogs smothered in ketchup were legit. I first started eating them cold cos I didn’t feel like putting them in the microwave (aka.. I was mad lazy as a kid) and since my older sister gave me a dirty look.. I made it my mission to snack on cold Winnie dogs every night. The end.
Thanks :)
My mom had NO rules regarding snacks. I would make myself a plate full of Chips Ahoy cookies and top them with whipped cream. Can’t remember the last time I bought Chips Ahoy…whipped cream is another story ;)
Soft pretzels! My mom was a school teacher, and she could get soft pretzels cheap from school. My brother and I used to fight over the middle part of the pretzel!
I was obsessed with cheese cubes with carrot bits on a tooth pick.. I loved acting like a waitress and handing out hor devours.. We also had a garden, which is why I liked the carrots. Cause I picked the
Myself!
Lunchables! However, I’d never eat those processed things now. But man, I loved them!
My mom would always make chips and salsa and put a blob of Sour Cream right in the center of the salsa. So, so good. My friends still remember it too.
Childhood snack would be pizza bread..simply a piece of bread, marinara sauce, and cheese. My sister and I could make it without making to big of a mess and we lived out in the country so pizza wasn’t a common dinner of ours!
My Gramma ALWAYS had jello ready for us when we visited.. she even re-filled the same little clear cups.
Omg that website really is the best!! I found it last friday and proceeded to waste at least an hour going through each page. The captions and pictures are so perfect!
chili mac! my parents used to make homemade chili and knowing my sister and i wouldn’t want to eat it, they’d make us up a bunch of macaroni, throw in a few spoonfuls of chili (like a sauce) and then my mom would add ketchup (yes, ketchup)! It was one of my favorite meals ever! And to this day, even though I like chili, I’d still make myself chili mac for the memories. (Only now it’s got to be vegetarian… ) ;)
Vanilla wafers and kit kats reminds me of my childhood. They were my mother’s favorite snacks, and I love that I rarely eat them now, beucase whenever I do, it reminds me of my mother :)
Mine would have to be frozen yogurt. When I was a kid, there was this local burger joint that had a froyo machine. They had chocolate, vanilla, and twist, and then each week they would feature a different flavor. Mom’s Apple Pie, Peach Cobbler, Chocolate Mint…you get the drift.
Anyway, every Wednesday night after church my family would go for froyo. We would just hang out, usually with other families from our church, and eat yogurt together. Good times.
Mac and cheese, it’s not really a snack but definitely reminds me of my childhood. My mom would usually let me fend for myself on the weekends and I would cook up a box of mac and cheese or pizza pops for lunch (or sometimes even just a snack). That was my staple most weekends while in jr high/high school
When I was four or five my Grandma used to make me half a pb&j with cheetos and red kool-aid for lunch EVERYDAY (probably because I refused anything else). She made me eat it sitting on the floor in her living room for a whole month after she found me jumping on her couch :)
roll-kuchen!!!!! deep fried deliciousness rolled in cinnamon and sugar! Every summer the moms of all my friends would get together while we were camping by the lake and make this stuff! It’s to die for! It was often served with watermelon and tasted the best after a long day of swimming and playing in the hot sun!
I used to eat rippled all-dressed chips dipped in sour cream. I knew it was unhealthy even as a kid, but oh man, I still love it. (Though I swear I never do that anymore!)
Popchips ARE amazing. I love the salt n vinegar ones!
Wow there are a lot. Probably the Chinese version of egg waffles are what reminds me of my childhood. The street vendors sell ’em all over the streets of Hong Kong and are PIPING HOT. mmmmm for $1 a piece, it’s a delicious, heartwarming and belly warming snack.
Pigs in a blanket! They’re the easiest things in the world. Hot dogs + crescent rolls + cheese…amazing. I still make them from time to time!
Chicken fingers and fries. I would request it for lunch almost daily. :)
owwwwwww chili lime? Get out of town! I need. Apples and peanut butter! My Mom used to always make it for me growing up. :)
Buttered toast and Lipton iced tea (the kind you make from the powder). When I was young, my mom used to wake me up super early for school and drop me off at my aunt’s house on her way to work. I would get to my aunt’s house, climb into bed with my older cousin (who I idolized immensely), and go back to sleep until it was time to get ready. I loved the mornings when there was a fresh pitcher of iced tea in the fridge because it meant summer was closing in and school would be over soon. My favorite food to pair with my iced tea was simple buttered toast. Anytime I have either (or preferably both!) I’m instantly transported back to my aunt’s kitchen. =)
I used to eat baked fries dipped in soft serve Ice cream all the time!
It truly does sound gross, but one day, my little sister was angry with me because I was hogging the fries my mom made for us that she smashed the vanilla soft serve she was eating into my fries so I wouldn’t eat them anymore! I still ate them just for the sake of proving to her that she did nothing and they surprisingly tasted good!
Thanks to her, I found a new yummy snack and our problem was resolved because she loved eating them too! Happy days :)
The one snack food that reminds me of my childhood is E.L. Fudge Elf cookies (http://www.keebler.com/product-keebler-el-fudge-original-cookies-1105.aspx?category=cookies) My dad was always the one to pack our lunches for school. When we did a good job on a test or a project he would send some E.L. Fudge cookies in our lunch the next day as a reward. I can’t even remember the last time I had one of these cookies but I’m pretty sure my parents still buy them occasionally.
I love love love popcorn oh and cookie dough! I used to sneak the whole bowl away from my mom and hide and eat it! so bad for me but soooo good!!
Yum, those look so good! I’ll have to try them soon. The food that takes me back to childhood is strawberry poptarts – aka the only food that my brother would eat for years. Yum!
My parents would never buy us snacks so we had to improvise. I used to put pickle slices in a ziploc bag with bac-o’s and shape them up to coat. I ate that literally everyday one summer. Sick. but good times.
i loved “bow bows” (elbow macaroni) with butter, salt, and pepper! and
My mom used to serve us Triscuit crackers with the Wispread Port Wine Cheese in the plastic container. We loved it and it was one of our favorite snacks. Occaisonally I will buy it at the store to have for a snack.
My mom and I share a love for ice cream. On Sunday nights, when I was growing up, we would sit on the couch with a bowl of ice cream and watch a movie together.
Popcorn reminds me of my fave childhood snack :)
Celery dipping with almond butter – straight out of the jar for me! My favorite healthy treat!
Snyder’s potato chips! Not sure if they’re a Southern thing only, but we always had a bag or two in the house when I was growing up. They’re the best. There’s a flavor called Sweet N Spicy that’s hard to find where we’re from and J LOVES it. People actually bring him bags of it if they spot them.
Ruffled chips and onion chip dip… Yum!
Definitely lays potato chips w/ french onion dip. We ALWAYS had these in our kitchen (so terrible…) and I would almost always eat them after school. I haven’t had them in so long!!
Almond/peanut butter brings me back to my childhood lunch days at school with friends at the cafeteria :)
Ok, snack that reminds me of childhood: Puffed Cheetos. Story: first day of preschool (it was a Catholic school) I was absolutely freaked out for my mom to leave. Huge crying scene but they enticed me into the main area with none other than cheese puffs.
