it’s the end of the week. this one has dragged for me for some reason. couldn’t tell you why, but i know i am welcoming the weekend with open arms.
haven’t been random for a minute. here’s a list. you love lists and you know it.
1. i just spent $51 on instagram magnets.
yeah, did you know you can turn your instagram photos into magnets?! and did you know it’s very hard to only pick nine.. so i picked 36. what?
2. there is absolutely nothing randy will not eat (drink).
found this in the yard this morning. the box is empty, FYI. we have kept the chicken stock on the garage floor for over a year, but he JUST NOW decided he wants to eat (drink) it. why, randy.. why?!?
oh, i also found this on the dog bed when i got home the other day…
…meaning he unburied it from a special spot and tried to open it when he wanted a snack, but failed miserably. probably due to his lack of having thumbs. i am sure the NEW FORMULA is what caught his attention and made him bury it in the first place.
3. speaking of randy, he is in a contest. vote for him.
i entered randy into the worst behaved dog contest. i don’t think i need to explain why. you can vote every day and i would REALLY appreciate your votes. the winner gets a year of doggy daycare! vote here.
4. speaking of doggy daycare…
i am looking into it! my basset hound loving blog friend, betty, takes her pup, scout, to daycare and he comes home pooped every night. (by the way it is her dog, scout’s, first birthday! happy birthday, scout!)
marshall and i leave penny and randy for hours and hours during the day. it’s not fair. they need to be entertained. i have shopped around and read reviews and they now have an interview scheduled at desert dog daycare—it’s $24 a day for both of them. not bad, not bad at all. plus it’s close to my office, so it would be very convenient. oh, one more plus is that my sister in law stacy’s pup goes there, so they would be able to play with their cousin!
they have to pass the interview which consists of hanging out with the other dogs for 7 hours without misbehaving.. so cross your fingers that all goes well. as long as there are no larabars around, i think they will do fine.
5. this weekend is the first of many traveling family potluck dinners.
my sister in law lindsay is a genius. my whole family (minus my sister in california) lives in the same town, but we rarely ALL get together. linds decided that once a month, a family will host a sunday dinner. the host family will make the main dish and every one else will bring side dishes and dessert.
sunday we are all going to lindsay and doug’s for taco salad. i am in charge of dessert. i want to keep with the theme, so i am going to make tres leches cake! i did some googling and alton brown’s recipe has the best reviews. i am not surprised, alton’s recipes are always a hit.
also.. i have been wanting to try my hand at horchata for awhile now because it is marshall’s fave. i decided that a mexican family fiesta is a great excuse to make horchata. i am going to try out this recipe because it had great reviews. wish me luck!
6. i have a very strange appointment tomorrow.
so i haven’t talked about my gut issues for awhile, have i? well if you have been following that whole thing.. here’s the latest. warning: i am going to talk about poop. i stopped taking the amitiza almost immediately after i started because it caused way too much pain. i stopped taking it about a week before mexico. anyway, i pooped once in mexico and that was because i took a laxative. i took it because i was dyyying and it was an absolute last resort. you see, i am not supposed to take laxatives because my whole problem is i have a lazy colon, and laxatives just make a lazy colon even lazier and trick it into thinking it does not have to do its job.
soo, anyway, i came back from mexico and have pooped twice since then. that means that i have gone three times in the past 3 weeks. oh, and i have been in extreme pain. really really reallllly painful pain. it blows. my GI doctor is kind of failing me right now. he wants me to get another test done that would cost a whole bunch of money, and since it is a new year, that means i would have to meet another $1000 insurance deductible.. plus pay 20% of all tests after the deductible is met. oh, and depending on the results of this test, i would either have to have part of my colon removed or i would have to take medicine for the rest of my life.
YEAH! that sounds awesome.
i have only gone to one GI for my problems. before i do this super expensive test, i want to get some second opinions. i also want to try some alternative methods for relief. i am looking into other doctors, both standard GIs and naturopaths (if you know of any in utah, let a sister know!) but in the meantime, i need to clean out my freaking pipes!!
a few of you lovely blog friends have turned me onto the idea of colon hydrotherapy. it’s basically exactly what you are thinking (if you are thinking anything…) they go into your colon with filtered water, waste is softened, loosened, and removed. it’s similar to a colonoscopy cleanse, but without all the not-eating-for-two-days, taking-a-zillion-laxatives, and sitting-on-the-toilet-for-hours business. it cleans you out. it’s like an oil change. for your butt.
sounds fun, right?!
i know it’s not a solution to my problems, but it at least will give me a little relief. it’s basically like getting a massage. if you have back problems, a massage feels great! it doesn’t fix the problems, but man.. you sure feel great for a little while afterward. that’s what i am after with this colon hydrotherapy appointment.
it’s tomorrow. at three o’clock. i am excited.. and a liiiittle nervous. you better believe i will keep you posted!
well, that seems like a good note to end this list on.
do you have any fun weekend plans?
xo. janetha g.
p.s. love crunch winner is sara! congrats.

I have major gut issues too..you are not alone!
Doctors and medications = zero help unfortunately.
It is bad too because I’m underweight. I’m eating a ton more because I want to gain, but the GI pain (the other night I was moaning in pain…but to be very very honest: It feels like “trapped wind”…in other words I have to belch or pass wind and I can’t, so it remains in my stomach and causes such unrest).
I just picked up some kefir (I refuse to do diet eliminations or trials anymore because it did nothing for me physically , but it sure drove me mentally insane).
As for colon hydrotherapy, I’d be way TOO scared to do anything even remotely like that. I won’t even take laxatives because it scares me too much. The idea of it weirds me out and seems unsound. PLUS, I’m underweight and I have a feeling it could be more risky that way. I’m not sure though (?).
Good luck buddy. I only wish you knew how so NOT alone you are in this (I know it sounds “mean”, but I’m kinda glad to find others who experience the same…misery loves company, heh heh).
we take our pups to daycare about 2 x/week and they absolutely LOVE it. and yes, they come home absolutely pooped. actually, the reason we only need to take them twice is because it takes them a day or two to recover! and this is 2 full-of-energy labs. it is seriously amazing. hope the fur babies ilke it :)
Yaya for daycare!!! I pay about the same for scout.. I got 15$ off cause I paid for 8 sessions.. But I promise.. You’ll love your dogs more than you ever thought you could..
I just bought a tonnnn of stickygrams too!!!
I pray for your colon! You’re too good of a person for this to happen!!!
Did you see that email I sent about the great Danes? So sweet!
Thanks for the shout out! Love you!
That is a REALLY good rate for two dogs at doggy daycare. Ask if they have a loyalty program, too. Sometimes you can get them to throw in a free day here and there if you’re a regular (I do every 10th session free!).
I would be all over those Instagram magnets if my fridge could actually hold magnets. I know, it’s totally bizarre, but it’s not magnetic. Poop.
Good luck with that oil change tomorrow ;)
My fridge isn’t magnetic, either! well not the front, it’s stainless steel. But the side is. But I got these to give as gifts and to put at work because I have a magnetic board.
That price is if I buy a 20 pass.. it’s 20 days for $235, so for both of them it works out to $23.50 a day.. but if I just want to do one day it is $40 for both of them.. so I guess I am already getting hooked up with the 20 pass! I hope they pass their interview.
I wish I lived up there, I would hire you!!!
Awesome deal! I wish you lived here, too! I’d just have to dead bolt our pantry ;)
Have you ever tried magnesium nitrate? It should make you poop…but from what I’ve heard about it from friends who have used it is that you may want to stay near a toilet at all times so you don’t get..errrrr…anal leakage or crap your pants…to put it lightly.
I VOTED for BAD boy Randy! :)
Good luck with your appointment tomorrow. Tummy (or butt) troubles are no fun! :( But, or BUTT, you did make me LOL with your “oil change” comparison.
Anxious to hear how it goes tomorrow at your appointment. I hope it helps… but more importantly I hope that someday you can find a solution that works because not being able to poop really stinks!
Just like getting a massage….. Maybe you should treat yourself to one afterwards. :) Will keep you in my thoughts tomorrow. Hope it goes well.
I see Dr. Edward Frech. I love him! So easy to talk to really knowledgable and doesn’t explain things so that they go right over your head. My older brother goes to Dr. Sossenheimer but he is really hard to get into and books out like crazy. I’d for sure say though if you do have to have surgery Dr. Tae Kim is amazing. He has done surgery on my dad and little sister. My family is full of colon issues! Ha can you tell?
I’ll throw this out there just in case it has never been brought up by your doc. I had huge GI issues as well and it took years for someone to finally put 2 and 2 together and figure out that it was my antidepressants causing the issues. It got to the point that I would take my pills M-F and then take the weekend off so that I could finally go. Obviously the most healthy thing I could do. We did finally find a medication that doesn’t cause that issue, but I’m mildly allergic to it so I itch all the time. But at least I can poop!
I had TERRIBLE stomach pains from constipation- the kind that put you in the floor crying until I started taking Natural Calm-Magnesium Citrate, now everything is fine and I haven’t had any constipation- just a thought!! Hope you feel better soon!!
Love your Randy stories.. going to vote! He is so cute.
I didn’t know they made Instagram magnets! I immediately went to the website and started walking through the process, then realized that 75% of my Instagram photos are of food. The sad truth.
Hope your doc appt. goes well tomorrow and that you start feeling better! Sorry your original doctor hasn’t been much of a help thus far. :(
My sister actually gets massage done on her stomach for exactly this reason. For her it has provided massive relief from her constipation issues and in the days that follow a treatment everything just works it’s way out on it’s own.
Your pups are too funny! I would love to know what goes through their heads as they take your treats!
Good luck with your appointment tomorrow! I’m kind of intruiged to hear how it goes! Maybe I sound like a total weirdo saying that – but I am going back to school to become a dietitian and studying digestive issues is one of my biggest interests!
I just left her a novel about how excited I am to hear more about this! I’m so glad I’m not the only one1 :)
Good luck with your RD schooling.
3 times in 3 weeks? That is miserable – how are you ever hungry?? :/
I have a pretty grumpy gut too, and I grew up eating bran buds (yuck) and metamucil (double yuck), but when I started eating more vegetables a few years ago suddenly I was a super regular twice-a-day-er (TMI?) – but seriously, a green smoothie + a couple salads a day = quick uh, movements. Hopefully you figure something out, stat!
When i recovered from anorexia, my colon was also very lazy and would go to the bathroom once every month, if even that. I looked 8 months pregnant. I decided to try colon hydrotherapy, but it did not work for me. I would go every week, for about 2 months, and it worked during the session, but nothing on my own, if I may say so. What worked for me was “time”, i.e., giving my body the time to recover from the trauma of not eating for many years and also eating clean fibers. I very much hope you find the solution to this colon issue. I know how painful and horrible it feels. My thoughts with you.
Well, I think your weekend has mine beat….I was going antiquing on Sunday but that colon therapy sounds so much more fun ;-) okay maybe I’m being a little sarcastic….sorry! It sounds like that would at least give you a little relief, my gosh girl, 3 weeks is a long time for just 3 poops!
At least Randy has good taste in the Justin’s….that stuffs the bomb. The chicken stock container made me laugh….who would have thought that would get taken.
Can’t wait to hear how the treatment goes tomorrow….good luck!
Hi love!
I am sending good poop vibes to you, lol! Sorry had to ; )
Seriously, I hope tomorrow goes good, it really stinks you still are having all these issues, hoping they go away soon.
Love you girl! Enjoy your weekend!!
The paleo diet will fix this. Give it a try, you shouldn’t have to go under the knife when there’s a much simpler solution.
Hello, Nellie! :)
As a fellow Paleo, it’s always exciting to see another lurking about in unexpected places. However, while I entirely agree with the Paleo principles, it’s not always a 100% cure-all for IBS. Mine got worse when I initially started Paleo. Turns out I’m intolerant to many of the “sacred” Paleo foods such as bacon and coconut. I’ve tinkered around with my diet a bit, adding in starches and what-have-you, and it’s helping quite a bit, but something inherent in my body is still acting up that I have yet to pinpoint.
Janetha, you have my sympathies! I do hope you find relief from something, and despite contradicting Nellie here, I think she has some sound advice. Before contemplating surgery, explore other dietary options. My constipation was triggered by dairy/gluten intolerances, but I do need a certain amount of starches from white rice or potatoes to create bulk. You’re in my thoughts, and whatever route you decide to take, I wish you the best in overcoming this!
Kaz! You make a valid point. The paleo diet is not the panacea to every symptom of every gastrointestinal ailment and individual allergies trump automatic inclusion of every paleo food into your diet. However, adherence to the sound principles of eliminating grains, dairy and sugar and increasing meat/fish, veggie and fat consumption will relieve most major symptoms. Further fine-tuning and experimenting within the Paleo framework will help produce even better results, as you pointed out with your own experience.
Janetha, I agree with Kaz, before subjecting yourself to surgery or medication for the rest of your life, take a month or so and explore the potential of paleo. From my own experience, I can say that including a 1/4 cup serving of raw sauerkraut or raw fermented greens with my breakfast every morning keeps me pretty regular.
I wish you the best of luck in finding a solution that works best for you!
I voted for Randy! Just today I was thinking he is probably bored and that is making him get “creative”.
Sorry to hear more bad news about your guts. I would definitely see another is not two more GI docs for their opinion. Not that your GI isn’t good, but not one doctor can know/deal with everything. My mother in law knows a lot about herbal/natural medicine (she lives in eastern Idaho). If you want her number, I would be more than happy to give it to you. She’d be thrilled! If not, that’s ok too. :)
I know I’m still a med student but since I know I am going to become a GI doc I have spent A TON of time with them and I feel like educated enough to offer advice. (Plus I’ve had a ton of these issues myself and have tried a ton of stuff too). I really really really think you need to be on a daily stool softener and am shocked that you aren’t. Miralax is over the counter and is totally gentle. It is not a stimulant laxative so it will not make your colon lazier. You can take it once or twice a day depending on if you get any relief with it. It is a powder that you just mix it with 8 oz of liquid and drink. It is tasteless. Honestly it might not work because your colon does sound super lazy but it’s such an easy solution with no side effects so I would highly highly recommend trying it.
I’d had 1 colonic before because I was so backed up and it definitely helped but of course it is not a permanent solution. The procedure may be a little uncomfortable at times but afterwards you will feel much much better. Please email me if you have any questions or if you just want someone to bounce ideas off of. I’ll be an MD in 3 months so I’m fairly well educated even though I’m not a GI yet.
Oh you poor thing. I can’t imagine only going 3 times in 3 weeks. I hope you at least get some relief from your appointment!
Are you on BC? I’m having enough GI issues I’ve given up dairy and am going gluten free next. But the grand daddy is stopping the pill. Next period I’ll go on Paraguard and stop the hormones. All my GI problems started when I began taking the pill. Never realized it till now!
Ashley, I just had the same thing happen to me. I went for 1 1/2 years with severe stomach pain making me feel like I had an eating disorder b/c I would never want to eat. Every time I did pain followed. I went to the GI for months and tried all sorts of mess with terrible side effects. he finally stopped me cold turkey, said there’s nothing we can do for you and buy bye. Went to Gyno and he diagnosed me with endometriosis. I had a diagnostic laparoscopy so he could examine and then remove it. It did help but afterwards he figured out my pain was so cyclical b/c I was on tri-cyclen…. 3 hormones. I kept getting sick on certain hormone weeks and it so happened I was allergic to it too! Now all the pain is almost gone and I’m back to “normal” again. Amazing what being allergic to something can do to your body.
Whew, long story.
I’ve actually heard really good things about the colon hydrotherapy. I know that it gets ENTIRELY annoying that they always want you to test but I promise it’s worth it. I was tested 4 times before they actually “found” something and until they were able to treat the actual problem. Apparently, it’s incredibly difficult to detect and if you are not looking for the exact issue, it’s almost impossible to find.
Wishing you all the best dear!
Dude – I get colonics ALL THE TIME! (tmi? maybe) They’re amazing – you’ll love it and feel SO much better! Are you taking a probiotic?
i have a feeling all 3 of us together would make one entertaing colon! yes?
:P
When I’m having gut issues I sometimes use Essential Oils (just look up online what types to use) I rub them on my lower abdomen before Bed & that helps in the Morning…If you get my drift!
now I’m curious. which essential oils? that’s an interesting technique … not heard of this before.
I found this in my Aromatherapy Book & there are some websites too! But some of the Oils are…Rosemary, Peppermint, Orange, Basil, Neroil.
Janetha – i commented on your gut issues way back in september i think…i was having similar issues and had seen a GI doc who specialized in motility. You can have a lazy colon (which I think I did but was never diagnosed) because you have problems with your pelvic floor. The pelvic floor is too tight so waste backs up, the signals the colon sends to eliminate aren’t acted on (because you can’t, the pelvic floor is too tight or the muscles are uncoordinated, so you actually contract and hold it in even though you are trying to push it out) which then makes the colon get even lazier, because really it doesn’t need a good reason to get lazy. I did two weeks of pooper therapy at the Mayo Clinic and there were a room full of us, who couldn’t fart, poop, eat because it never came out. Please find a motility specialist just so you can rule that out. I asked my therapist why she did this work (like really, that’s what you want to do all day? help people put stuff in their butt?) and she said she had been a GI nurse and had seen many patients have surgery, have portions of their colon removed and were still constipated. It took three months of home practice multiple times a day with a biofeedback machine and i am 100% better. I have an urge, I go! I still check a couple of times a week because this relaxed feeling is not yet natural, but i hope someday i won’t have to think about it. If you are going to have a colonic, the motility test is no worse. If your doctor won’t do it, find someone who will. At least rule the pelvic floor out. Good luck!
hey niki, i have a question about pelvic floor dysfuction – did you have the urge to go and couldnt or did you never even get the urge?
i had the urge to go, but couldn’t fully eliminate. i took magnesium fizz and drank mint tea to help, so most days i could get out a little. but was still bloated and in pain. there are many things that need to coordinate in order to have a bowel movement, and anything can cause the muscles to get a little confused. and then when they get confused that is all they remember. the doc i saw did a physical exam (i had already had a bowel movement) and asked did i know my colon was full? well, no i didn’t. i didn’t even feel it was full anymore because when you can’t eliminate, the body sort of downgrades the need. then when the need is downgraded, your colon goes well, guess i don’t have much to do, and it slows down. so you have to address the pelvic floor as well as the colon: taking miralax to make a stronger urge and a stool softener to help it get past the tight muscle. for me, all three of the openings of the pelvic floor were too tight (and actually hurt when i realized i was holding tension) and the pubilrectalis muscle would actually contract while i was eliminating even though i felt like i couldn’t push any harder. it is like kinking a hose while trying to water the garden….it can be so tight that gas can’t even slip by. until you learn to relax, control and coordinate that muscle it won’t get any better. the motility test is inserting a balloon into your bottom and inflating it with saline till it is normal poop sized. then you try to work it out. the docs can tell how much strength and coordination you have just by that. for the therapy, you show up three times a day and insert a biofeedback probe into your bottom, and learn to recognize the tone of the muscle. then you learn to release it. it is really hard. you only work for thirty minutes at a time, because it is about repetition….this is a group of small muscles that are actually really tired and really weak, and you have to slowly retrain them. then the pooping is practicing with the balloon. it was not fun, but i am so thankful that someone figured out how to help that room full of us. and i had to wait two months to get into the therapy after i was diagnosed, so there are a lot of us. i think it is one of those issues that looks like a lot of of symptoms, and unless you know to look for it, you never get all the help you could.
i have always had a tight pelvic floor which mostly showed up in back pain, leaking urine and pain during intercourse. i started over exercising and eating a ton of dairy/whey and i think that is when everything got really bad…my digestion slowed down, my pelvic floor got tighter with my anxiety, my digestion got worse because nothing was going out….it is an awful cycle. i have found i have to be careful about dairy, but i was able to add back grains back with no trouble. it is just a weird thing…if you are a teeth grinder/clencher that can be a symptom of pelvic floor dysfunction. if you are prone to anxiety or panic attacks that can make it worse.
there were three women who were doing the same therapy and both only pooped once a week, with the help of an enema and otherwise would vomit up miralax since their was no where for it to go. one of them traveled from texas for the diagnosis and therapy. Mayo clinic does it and there is a hospital in Wisconsin which is really well known. find a GI doc who specializes in motility, and if you can’t try to find a doc/physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor dysfunction. they would be able to go internally and see if it is tight, then maybe get a little relief.
a couple other things…happy baby/dead bug yoga stretch is great for the pelvic floor. diaphragmatic breathing will do wonders for both your digestion and pelvic floor. breathe in through the nose, breathe out through pursed lips, inflating the belly. i can’t tell you how many times that helped me get a little relief. if you can you want to feel the breath all the way down…don’t worry if you can’t, most of us aren’t even aware that stuff can move down there. google motility and pelvic floor dysfunction and you can get a fuller picture of what symptoms look like. let me know if you have any other questions!
niki
Hi Niki,
I’ve been considering asking my doc about biofeedback. Can a regular GI doctor determine if pelvic floor dysfunction could be to blame? Also – would you say you have “normal” bowel function now?
Thank you for your informative posts :)
Best,
Grace
Grace….
Don’t know if a regular GI can diagnose Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. I got into a Motility Specialist at Mayo because I have a friend who is a Mayo doc and knows about medicine. Your doc can certainly determine if your pelvic floor is tight by sticking a finger in there. The motility test was specialized and ordered after she did a physical exam. I have done biofeedback before for an eating and panic disorder, but it was more generalized whole body relaxation techniques. This is a very specific therapy for the pelvic floor…learning how to identify and relax those muscles. you gotta get in there unfortunately. my insurance wouldn’t pay for just general biofeedback, but it would pay for this therapy…there is lots of medical research as to why it works. Mayo clinic has an evacuation disorders program (507)538.3836…i’m sure you could call and ask for info to be sent. my therapist said anything can trigger it….a bad case of diarrhea and you’re afraid you won’t make it to the toilet, so you start holding, and all of a sudden that is what your muscles remember. or you are injured during childbirth. or you have panic attacks. and it can move around…so maybe sometime in your life you had trouble with leaking urine, or back pain, or pain during intercourse or even chronic what you thought were yeast infections but was actually the tight muscle confusing the body. or maybe you have some portions of the pelvic girdle that are tight and cause random symptoms, but then the muscle gets uncoordinated and…no poop. the pelvic floor is our tail…when a dog is happy and relaxed it just wags around, but when nervous, scared, anxious, that tail just sucks up between the legs. that is what can happen to us. only you can’t see it and don’t know you’re doing it.
i am %100 better. It took four months of daily work with the biofeedback. i am down to half a cap full of miralax at night and a stool softener morning and night, but i am getting ready to quit that. i have epic poops now. my husband is sick of hearing about it. but it is amazing to me that i can be in the right place at the right time and it just comes out. no strain. no work. just sit, breathe and relax. and i am almost to the point of trusting that that is how it will be from now on. i hope that helps!
You are a wealth of information and I am super fascinated! Many times the issue with holding is subconsciously starts in childhood (b/c, you know, its not “ladylike” to poop or fart”) and sticks with us. This therapy sounds so interesting and like a total godsend! Thanks for the information.
Martha Stewart’s tres leches all the way. Every time I make those tres leches cupcakes people lose their god damn minds and tell me they are the best cupcakes they have ever had.
I am in love with Randy! I voted for him!!!!!!
I have had the full spectrum of GI problems. It really sucks. Obviously everyone is different but for me I discovered that I was lactose intolerant so I cut that out (major relief!). I also worked with a naturopath which was a huge help. She made a custom blend tea for me and suggested probiotics. We started off initially with ultimate flora critical care probiotics (50 billion. found in refrigerated section. they are expensive but worked for me). It helps to re-establish your flora. Now I’m on less expensive ones. I definitely recommend a naturopath! I have a great one but am guessing you don’t want to travel to Toronto to see her?
Is there anything out there about acupuncture and lazy colon?
Too bad I am not allowed into Canada! Ha. I should google acupuncture…
Gut issues are the norm for me. I have to be super careful about what I eat otherwise I get intense….and I mean INTENSE cramps, bloating, and pain. Like the kind where ur doubled over lol. Anyway I have heard that colon hydrotherapy can be useful and I hope it does provide you with some relief. I would definitely look into getting a second opinion as well!
Nothing special planned this weekend…maybe a picnic and the beach tomorrow but that’s all. Hope you have a great one :)
Hey girl! I know alllllll GI problems are different (and a huge pain in the butt), it took them almost 2 years to even figure out what was wrong.. and the solution is still in progress (I also had pelvic floor dysfunction like a previous commenter.. due to a cervical surgery gone wayyy bad. Let me tell you how fun that physical therapy is lol). However, for the poop issue, a GI cocktail before bed (and first thing in the AM if needed) tends to help. I use Natural Calm which is liquid magnesium (and also a stress reliever) mixed with physillium husk (not necessary, but I feel it reallllly cleans you out haha) and water.. followed by a glass of water helps a TON. Some people do the PH 3 times a day and the Magnesium at night.. whatever works. Obviously it’s not a solution, but there are only so many enema bags you can feel before you start to question your sanity. Feel better and good luck tomorrow :)
So sorry to hear the problems just keep continuing. :(
And good luck to Randy…though I’m sure he doesn’t really need it… ;)
I voted for Randy and will keep doing so! He totally cracks me up. I hope your appointment goes alright and that everything gets a-movin’ soon. Yikes. I cannot imagine how unpleasant (and expensive) that is to deal with! Fun weekend plans involve getting into shenanigans tomorrow night with my BFF from college. I am SO excited.
PS – how late into the spring can you board in Utah? I’m thinking maybe I need to head westward sooner than later. ;-)
Wellll, we are having a bad winter so it looks like snowboarding SUCKS no matter what right now.. but usually you can ride until early May!
Glad to hear an update on the GI issues. When we were in Ireland for 12 days, I pooped once. It was horrible. And on the last day, we had two separate 6 and 7 course meals. I wanted to die. Can’t wait to hear what you find out!! Hope they figure out what’s going on because there’s seriously nothing worse than being “consti”…what Nate and I call it!
p.s. Nate says you look very pretty in the picture above. He wanted me to tell you.
Lucy dog just went to doggie daycare today, love that place!! She is always soooo happy when she knows we’re going and is so tired out after a full day there, it is THE BEST – You will love it for your pups! :)
haha i feel your pain on the stickygrams. i won a set in a giveaway and had SUCH a hard time picking! and your dogs seriously make me lol every day. good luck with doggie daycare. i wish we had one close by i could take mine too! we leave them at one when we go out of town and then pretty much sleep for 3 days straight when we get home!
I’ve made that cake recipe before, it is SO GOOD.
I don’t remember the guy’s name off the top of my head, but I went to a naturopath in SLC, and he was the WORST doctor I’ve ever been to. Nothing against naturopaths, just him. I will look up his name and email it to you, just so you don’t go to him, he was seriously the worst.
I didnt read the GI talk…getting ready to eat dessert :)
But the instagram magnet is super cute!!!!
Doggie daycare is super popular here!
I don’t have GI issues, but had a colonic (hydrotherapy) about 4 years ago. While it was good and I liked the results, I wouldn’t say it was like a massage! It was quite uncomfortable and partially due to eating black beans the evening prior (was annoyed that the clinic hadn’t provided a list of things to do to prepare!). I think you’ll enjoy the results, but definitely be prepared for some unpleasantness!
Oh, I didn’t mean like a massage in the sense that it will feel good. I meant it in the sense that it will give me some temporary relief, but won’t fix my problems :)
Janeethaaaa, c’mon, yes i am writing this after a couple of vodka and rockstars, accompanied by 83 pistacios, but i promise, i mean every word. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2009 and have discovered more symptoms than I ever imagined possible since then, In July of last year, I went Gluten-Free and it changed my life. I very very recently have been researching and trying to follow the Paleo lifestyle. I absolutely hate to see your tag: “something is wrong with me again”. I have been certified as a Personal Trainer since 2009 and have been involved in the active lifestyle since my overweight New Year’s Resolution of 1998. I have encountered more health-related issues since 2009 than when I was naturally overweight.
I haven’t felt as lean as I do right this moment, than I have after fasting for my annual Colonoscopy. Having a blog that you put daily sweat, energy, and love into, I feel you have way more knowledge and info than I will ever have the motivation to take-in, but I encourage you to read up on the Paleo lifestyle and focus on the diseases and daily lifestyle changes that they had to conform to….not only that, but the difference between their life-span & health compared to their immediate replacers- the agricultural farmers, who lived off grains and veg.
I have lived in the Bahamas for the past 2.5 years and have had to deal with the majority confused as helll as to why i’m not eating crack conch and macaroni, but this is my life and i deserve to feel good….so do you, my dear!
Another paleo lurker! Megan, I couldn’t agree with you more, paleo is the way to go, there is no need to go through all this pain, suffering, doctors, medications, tests, surgeries, etc… There is a much simpler solution to the “something” that’s wrong with you and once you try it, you will ask yourself why in the world have you not done it sooner.
You are amazing…I’m a proud momma b! Hydrotherapy without me….are you really the same little lady that wouldn’t ask for a side of ranch? :)
I hope the results give you some relief. Randy is bound to win he is such a pill!!
Our traveling dinner plans are going to be fun!!
xoxo
come to austin!! i have a naturpath that would do wonders. Although, i still have an over growth and go 4x a time. ya, more on that topic later. Another colonoscopy is scheduled when i return. But maybe if our colons combine, they’d be normal??
I also tried accupuncture and all. By now, i just think we all need a sack for a colon. It would be a lot easier, yes?
xxoo
meant to say 4x a day. sheesh, i’m a typo queen.
dude, you need to get on the no fodmaps train. just effing try it already.
ps randy is ridic
I second this! My brother has severe (life-threatening) ulcerative colitis flare ups, and going gluten-free/Paleo-esque with special attention to FODMAPS has begun to help.
Good luck with the hydrotherapy, it wasn’t as it’d seen on tv 1st time and it seems it would take 2 or 3 sessions to clear completely. But even after 2 sessions i am no longer embarrassed by the odour i create, especially whilst at the gym, because i don’t smell! :)
She also gave me some herbs, which she said wasn’t a laxative but i think it is just a herbal version, called Co-Ton. They seem to work too. I’m back next week because i messed up the time of my last appointment, not sure whether she is going to charge for that, but i’m less stressed about that now because i have a job! And by the end of the month i could afford 100 sessions….i wouldn’t have any money for anything else mind you :)
Hi Janetha! I am what I think is called a lurker..or silent reader sounds better haha. Anyway, I love your blog, but have never commented. I am actually originally from Utah as well and have a few other things in common.
Anywho…about the gut issues, I had to leave a comment! I have a doctor who I cannot recommend highly enough – his background is in traditional medicine, but he does holistic medicine now and has helped me and other people I’ve referred work out some tough medical stuff through natural means…and WAY cheaper than typical medical costs. I’m positive he can help remedy the gut stuff without you having to have a surgery or rely on meds forever. He is in Albuquerque, but does phone appointments if you don’t want to drive down to see him (I have worked with him when I lived in Colorado and Las Vegas via phone and always had great results). So if it sounds of interest – his name is Dr Emil Faithe and the practice is called World Wellness – you can just call for an appointment – 505-299-1771. Good luck!
oh man! Your pooooooor tummy :(. I hope a solution is found to the madness. Totally voting for Randy now!
Good luck! I hope it provides you with some relief!!
My mom takes our two Pomeranians to day care. They behave awful, well just one of them really, and she takes the other down with her. But my mom said it has made a big difference and she thinks it is worth the money for them to go a couple of days a week.
I’m also really interested to hear about how your hydrotherapy goes. I have always had bad GI problems and that have recently starting effecting my daily life. And I don’t have the money all my doctors want either. Please talk feel free to talk about poop some more. I know a lot of females suffer GI problems.
