i woke up to a very happy sight this morning.
yes. i squealed like a seven year old.
utah has been lacking in snow this whole winter (if you can even call it that.) i know all those snow haters out there have been grinning ear to ear, but it really is NOT normal to have no snow in january. it’s not good for the city! the pollution has been horrible and the snowfall helped clear the air. plus, snow is beautiful.
the first thing i did upon waking up (after squealing, of course) is make a pot of french press peet’s coffee. i am so annoyed–i had a coupon for $2 peet’s coffee, so i snagged a bag at target.. and then forgot to give the cashier the coupon. i am a moron.
snow makes me want protein oatmeal. i haven’t had a bowl of it in over three months, i’d say.
a perfect, warm, and cozy breakfast.
the protein oats were made on the stove–1/3 cup oats in 1 cup of water. i cooked them on low heat, very slowly, and added a bit of cinnamon and vanilla bean paste during the cooking process. at the very end, i stirred in a scoop of vanilla whey protein powder. i topped the oats with crunchy peanut butter, and then opted to stir in a teaspoon of real maple syrup to seal the deal.
after eating, i played my new addiction for about an hour. yes, an hour. it’s a game on my phone called scramble with friends. it’s basically boggle. i am obsessed. luckily you have to wait awhile to “earn” more tokens to play more games (lame, but a blessing in disguise) so i had to stop playing once my tokens ran out.
marshall had gone to the gym. the pups were looking restless. i bundled up and took those rascals to the nearby park.
this is penny & randy’s favorite place to romp.
it’s totally legal.
there wasn’t a soul around and the freshly fallen snow was a blanket on the playground.
i am fairly certain that one of the very best things in life is watching dogs play in the snow. i could do it for hours. or at least one.. which is what i did today.
i ran with them quite a bit. i say that can count for my workout today, right?
i pondered using the bars to pound out some pull-ups, but quickly decided against it.
i had to take photos of the dogs, after all. i got some awesome shots.
and if you follow me on instagram, you have already seen these two gems.. but i HAD to share them with you all. can’t believe it caught them on my phone.
man. they’re cute.
we had a great morning at the park!
now i am going to spend 3 hours folding laundry.

I love snow! Probably I only get to see (maybe 5 inches of) it once or twice a year. I would love to see a REAL snow. It’s so cheery…as long as you can cozy up for the most part during it. ;)
Ahhhaha! There’s a park in my town with one of those World Trail set ups. Some of those exercises are hilarious.

We are experiencing an unseasonable warm weather in NYC with 50s degrees. It makes me long for that nice long snow fall. Btw thank you for the carnitas recipes I’m trying it out tonight. So excited!
the snow was a total surprise to me too! i opened up the curtains this morning and screamed “yayyy!”. utah was DEFINITELY in need of some snow! it was starting to look really ugly and i want to go skiing on some quality snow!

Okay I’m a winter hater but there’s something so magical about freshly fallen snow and some hot coffee….that part I love! East Coast has been having a warm winter too….mid-60’s today in DC.

I picked up a big tub of “NOW” pea protein…but when I got home I saw it has 330 mg of sodium per scoop. Seems kind of high doesn’t it? I’m on the fence about this product!
I was also over the moon when we got a dusting of snow on Christmas day in Maine. I cannot believe the lack of snow all over the states. Protein oatmeal looks amazing. I am in Mexico and I can assure you that you are going to have the BEST TIME EVER. The moment I got off the plane I was on cloud nine.

I live in Utah too and I was so happy to see the snow this morning clear out all of the gross pollution that has been hanging around the past few days. Great action shots of your dogs, they are so cute!
I’ve always been curious…Being a life-long native of Charleston, SC, we don’t get snow, ever. So when we even THINK there is a TINY chance of snow, we all get really excited! (and we panic and close everything even when it ends up just raining for fear the temp might possibly, maybe fall below 32°…it’s kind of pathetic). So you still get excited for snow even though it’s not an unusual occurrence? That’s pretty cool. I’ve always thought snow was beautiful and fun, but I didn’t know if people in places like Utah were excited or annoyed when it snowed. We just get cold rain. I’d much rather have temps below freezing with snow than low 40s with rain. Fortunately, it was like 68 here today…totally weird…but better than cold rain! Enjoy your snow! =)

Dan is skiing in Steamboat springs right now, apparently there is hardly any snow. It’s warm here, was 77 yesterday. too warm for winter!

Ohhh I am soooo jealous of your snow! I live in the midwest and last year we had snow for three months straight…and I’m not going to say I loved THAT much snow, however I do enjoy snow on Christmas and there was not a single flake on the ground this year. :-/

as much as I really don’t like the snow…after it falls and everything becomes so covered and quiet, there is something so magical about it!
I was pretty excited about the snow too! My husband has been saying the same thing…how abnormal it is for SLC to have no snow, in January. Your pictures of the pups were adorable!
I’ve been in Boise the past few weeks, and the lack is snow has been the #1 story on the news every morning. The local ski resort STILL isn’t open, which means I haven’t been able to ski once since I’ve been home. Waaah! Maybe the storm you had last night will move northwest? (If only weather patterns worked that way!). So glad you and the pups had fun playing today though! They’re irresistibly adorable.
Oh, and btw, BFL has kicked off to a strong start! My legs are still screaming at me 3 days after my first lower body workout. Love it though. Thanks for all your advice! xo
