oh man. i opened my google reader today and was overwhelmed with the “best of” and “top ten list” and “my ten favorite posts” and “greatest moments” for 2011. i am all about lists. i love them! but count me out on this type of list.
instead, here are my top ten reasons i will NOT be posting a top ten moments/posts/recipes/etc of 2011:
- i am positive that you already have enough 2011 recap posts to read from other bloggers.. and you probably are busy writing your own, too.
- you’re busy. you have a life. it’s already hard to find time to read one post from me. i get it. i don’t want to do a whole post devoted to linking other posts of mine.. you really don’t have time to go back and read them all. especially if you already read them the first time around!
- i’m busy. i have a life. i don’t have time to sift through the 300-some odd posts from 2011 to see which ones were the raddest. most rad? that sounds like a lot of work. too much effort.
- my recipe posts weren’t consistent enough to actually have 10 amazing ones to point out to you guys. i really need to be better about recipe documentation. maybe i should make a resolution out of it.
- a lot of cool stuff happened this year! i sure am glad i have my blog and i blogged about it when it happened! yay, technology. if you (or i) have the desire to reflect back on the year’s events.. that’s what the archives are for. knock yourself out.
- writing a blog about my life already makes me feel pretty self-centered. i don’t want to write a self-centered post about all the self-centered posts i wrote this year. that’s just too much me for even me.
- i have the worst memory EVER. i don’t remember the best thing that happened last week let alone the best thing that happened in march. furthermore, the best thing that happened in march 2011 isn’t relevant to the here and now. live in the moment!
- i have a backlog of things that i haven’t blogged about that i want to blog about. in fact, i have a whole list in my phone with blog topics that i haven’t found time to write about. i have a folder of photos labeled “to be blogged.” why waste time compiling a list of crap i already managed to write about and you already managed to read about? i have fresh content that i can’t even find the time to write about. one of these days…
- i have to use my time to make a top ten goals for 2012 list, duh!
- let’s face it: the only thing that happened on my blog this year that was FOR REAL life-changing (not life-changing like a new brand of peanut butter or a state of the art blender) was the fact that we, as a community, raised almost $30k for susan’s chemotherapy bills with the great fundraising act. that’s the only thing that would go on my list if i did one.. and so it would be a top one list. not a top ten list.
because this list was all in fun and i really do see how reflecting on the year is super enjoyable for 90% of people and everyone probably achieved a lot of things they are really proud of.. i will ask you all one question:
what is the best thing that happened to you or that you accomplished in 2011?

The coolest thing I did this year was start running half marathons! Woot!

Best thing: nursing school. Finally moving forward with a career I’m excited about. Meeting Chad…..and getting pregnant. I do things in the wrong order, but whatever. All good things.

The best thing I did this year was going back to college! It’s scary, and HARD with a full time job BUT so freaking worth it!
THANK YOU! Made me LOL! The best thing I have done this year, gosh I don’t even know… probably going to marriage counseling. I wish we had done it 11 years ago because I am amazed at how much it has helped us communicate!

Haha, this is perfect. It’s true, my Reader is overflowing with 2011 goal recaps, best of lists, etc and I skip 90% of them. I agree that The Great Fundraising Act was pretty amazing and it gives me a little renewed faith in the blog world. I’m not sure what my own personal “best thing” would be for this year. Running my first (and second) half marathon was pretty epic but that seems so cliche and pales in comparision to TGFA.

best thing that happened? started reading peas and thank you in January, then found you, then started my own blog. Sounds weird to say that I’ve only been blogging for 6 months!!
Haha, I have a terrible memory too, so I just looked at what photo albums I posted on FaceBook to choose the top 10 things of 2011. Social Media nerd? Yep.
Is it bad that the BEST thing that happened to me/my biggest accomplishment this year was surviving a year’s worth of intermittent layoffs at work?
Some cool things happened to other people (my best friend got married, three of my friends had babies) and I had a lot of fun (spent lots of time with friends)…but that’s the one thing that really stands out. Kinda sad.
First of all, HI DI! Second, that’s not sad. That’s rad. Employment is cool.

The best thing that happened to me in 2011 was that I got a new job! I was laid off last Christmas and started with my new company in April! Definitely a blessing!
Looking through my past blog posts makes my face hurt. I’m consistently surprised every time I publish a new post that anyone even reads what I write so a top 10 list doesn’t really seem like a great idea for me. Best thing that happened in 2011? The fact that I started blogging altogether :) (Despite my self-deprecating comment, I actually really love it.)

Best thing I did was graduate from massage therapy school, hands down. And for Alex and I to finally get our own place. 2012 is gonna be bad-freakin’-ass, I can feel it. And I might do a “best of” post. Haven’t decided yet. This post is one of a zillion reasons why I think you are the awesomest.
When I think of 2011 I think of your #10 as being one of the coolest things that happened. Lots of love and happy new year to you miss G.

I must have a bad memory too because I cannot think of anything especially great that happened to me this year. The only sort of big event was losing my job and that would not be classified as a great accomplishment!
Love this! :) I’d say the biggest thing I accomplished was graduation in the top three of my nursing school class!

As a reader I would have preferred if you just ignored the top 10 lists all together and used the time you spent writing this list of excuses writing about one of your other ideas! Plus it just feels kind of snarky and insulting to other bloggers.
Like I said in the post: all in fun! I think my fellow blog friends know my humor and aren’t insulted. Plus, I’ve enjoyed reading and commenting on several reflective posts today. There’s always room for a little fun-poking in blog land.

My best thing would be: being the first in my family.. Not just immediate, but extended family to get my masters degree. I was also just offered the full time job position today! I’ve been losing a lot of sleep over this, so it’s gonna be a great year!

Love your list and your blog! Your number 10 should be tops. You made such a postive difference. The best thing I accomplished was travelling to Europe this year. I always said I wanted to travel and this was my start to see the world.

2011 was a bit of a roller coaster for me…but I definitely learned a lot of lessons that will hopefully make for a much more cheerful 2012! I’m nothing if not an optimist.
Also…another Packers Super Bowl win would be awesome. :)
2011 can suck my balls, which I don’t have, but seriously. I could list off my 10 least favorite things about 2011…but not 10 favorite. Thank god you only asked for one: Having a source of income that allowed me to travel out of Ohio. Bam!

2011 highlight: graduating and getting a job doing what I want to do, teaching special ed!
The highlight of my 2011 was getting engaged. The worst part was getting my appendix removed on Sunday. :( I’m thinking positive about 2012. I’m excited to get married in the new year!
