4 x 4 & the local spotlight.

in local spotlight,random rambles

i am tired.

i was out late last night. i was up early this morning. i worked all day.

i still need to get to the gym, make dinner, clean the casa and cuddle with my family.

you know what that means.. time for some listing! i love lists and will always have the energy to make them—even when i am tired.

four lists of four! (aka 4×4.)

four recipes i want to make real soon.

1. low carb samoas.

image

2.  sausage, leek & tomato frittata.

image

3. roasted red pepper penne.

image

4. lemon blueberry cheesecake bars.

image

four items of clothing i want to buy but never will because i am practical and cheap.

1. these $335 boots.

image

2. this $100 top.

image

3.  this $90 hoodie.

four clever things.

1. homemade biore face strips.

image

2. putting a paper bag through a printer to make personalized bags for every occasion.

image

3. scooping ice cream into cupcake  liners before a party, then popping them in the freezer until ready to serve.

*********************************************************

and because it’s wednesday and i meant to post this sunday.. here is another installment of the local spotlight!

i am featuring local utah bloggers because i love reading blogs from people in my area. HOWEVER—these blogs are awesome and everyone should read them.. not just utah kids.

my fitness journey

image

name & location: Kerryne Brown, Bountiful, Ut

tell us about your blog: My blog is about my life.  I talk about fitness, diet, competing, being a mother and wife and everything in between… good and bad!

how long have you been blogging? About a year and a half (June 2010).

what are two NOT TO BE MISSED posts of yours?

  1. Judge Me Not
  2. If I Never

finally, what are five things you could NOT live without? I could not (would not) live without my family, a close second would be oatmeal, coke zero, almond butter and the internet!

reads recipes runs

image

name & location: Elizabeth, Salt Lake City, Utah

tell us about your blog: My blog reads recipes runs is about my three of my passions, reading, trying new recipes, and training for my first half marathon. I am currently on the road to losing 50 lbs, and sharing any revelations I may have along the way.

how long have you been blogging? I’m a newbie! I’ve been blogging for just longer than 3 months.

what are two NOT TO BE MISSED posts of yours?

  1. My favorite recipe to date on the blog: Chicken Soup with Butternut Squash
  2. Why I Run

finally, what are five things you could NOT live without?

1. My family! Moving to Utah away from my fam has made me realize how much I love them! Without skype I would not be a happy camper. It also made me appreciate my husband so much (who, for the record, is included as family) :)

2. Coffee. Sad but true, it’s my one thing I will never give up, it just makes my mornings happier.

3. My nook. I love being able to download a book *likethat* and get stuff from the library too. It’s perfect for a reading junkie like me.

4. My iPhone. I could most likely live without my computer and TV, as long as I still had my iPhone! And without Pandora at work I would likely lose my mind.

5. A good pair of running shoes. It’s so easy to be active with minimal equipment, squats, lunges, pushups, all can be done with just you! Add some good shoes and you are good to go on all kinds of adventures!

thanks to kerryne & elizabeth for participating in the local spotlight! hope you all check out their awesome blogs.

your turn: give me a list of four. any topic goes. you KNOW you want to. lists are fun.

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga October 19, 2011 at 9:00 pm

Lmk if you want the link to my review of it. I dont wanna link drop on ya.

And the Samoas bars..omg I just made something that I am calling Samoas bars…but they are not low carb, low fat, low anything :) high sugar baby! :)

Juliette @ Finish Your Broccoli October 19, 2011 at 9:02 pm

Love these lists! PS – re that grey top, you can easily achieve the look for much cheaper with this american apparel top for much cheaper (http://store.americanapparel.net/br394.html?cid=199) and just let your bra strap show! ;)

Janetha October 20, 2011 at 11:31 am

thanks!

Christie @ SpringJumps October 19, 2011 at 9:03 pm

Oh my gosh the “clever things” are all such good ideas! I totally want to make the cookie cups – that is just too cute! :)

Kiah October 19, 2011 at 9:09 pm

I love this UT feature! Makes me want to do one for MA :-) Also, homemade samoas? Eek!

Heather (Where's the Beach) October 19, 2011 at 9:11 pm

My dad had a red dobie named Lucy (after Lucille Ball of course). I must check out those samosas YUM.

Heather (Where's the Beach) October 19, 2011 at 9:12 pm

samoas not samosas, but samosas are good too.

Heather @ Better With Veggies October 19, 2011 at 9:14 pm

This is such a good post – so many things I like! I love the personalized bags & dogs (maybe not in that order). I also love that you are featuring local bloggers from your area, what a cool way to spread the word about other great bloggers! :)

elise October 19, 2011 at 9:25 pm

omg, those upside down cookie bowls are genius!

and those puppies!!!!!!!!!!!! awwwwww.
german sheps and bernese mountain dogs are so dang cuuute.

Krystina (Organically Me) October 19, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Oh my God those cheesecake squares. Must. Have.

Paige @ Running Around Normcal October 19, 2011 at 9:36 pm

thankyouforever for posting that samosa recipe!!

Carbzilla October 19, 2011 at 9:36 pm

I love that you are practical and cheap. I think I would die before I bought a hundred dollar sweatshirt! Is there 85 bucks sewn into it?

Four things I hate about migraines:
1. takes all the fun out of wine and/or cocktails
2. feeling nauseous
3. my face hurts
4. the medication costs more than an over-priced sweatshirt

Christin October 20, 2011 at 11:15 am

I get migraines too…they are the worst!! I found out that I have a sulfite allergy, so white wine is a trigger, while red wine is not…might be worth a try for you? :)

Anne October 19, 2011 at 9:39 pm

I really hope that the next time you get a dog, you look into adopting. It is hands down one of the most compassionate, humane choices one could ever make. Breeders, even supposed “reputable” ones, are the reason so many dogs end up in shelters every year.

Catherine October 19, 2011 at 9:51 pm

I am also OBSESSED with those boots! But, I will probably beg and beg and beg and maybe if I’m lucky get them for xmas because my mom will take pity on my sad post-grad self….

Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats October 19, 2011 at 9:58 pm

The samoas and frittata sound bomb! :) Also, the cookie bowls. Flippin’ genius.

Four random thoughts for you: 1. I can’t wait to be done with classes in 8 days! 2. One perk of living alone is being able to lick the knife before sticking it back in the peanut butter jar. 3. One thing I am looking forward to most about graduating is living somewhere that I can actually get a dog! :) 4. I haven’t eaten any Halloween candy yet this year and I am VERY proud of that.

Krissie J October 19, 2011 at 10:16 pm

I love those boots! And I love german shepherds, especially the all or mostly all black ones. My former boss has a doberman that just had two pups and I may get a chance to visit with them during lunch tomorrow. I am SO excited.

Here’s my list. Four workout songs I cannot do without:
1. Baby Anne – Uplift Drift
2. Innerparty System – Don’t Stop
3. Pendulum – Midnight Runner
4. Stabbing Westward – Save Yourself (oldie but goodie)

Kerryne October 19, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Okay so the upside down cookie bowls are out of this world insane. I have to do that. Amazing. Thanks for the shout out :) Your amazing!

lindsay October 19, 2011 at 10:39 pm

wait, so this list. Are you going to make a huge care package of these things and send it to me? Is that what you are listing? if so, throw in some extra red doberman please. hehe.
Love you Utah bloggers. Very cool! and VERY DOWN TO EARTH!

Elizabeth @ reads recipes runs October 19, 2011 at 11:08 pm

Thanks for the Utah blogger love!! We are a pretty great bunch :)

I like this listing game! Four things I wish would appear in front of me right now. (I think I suck at this game… Haha)

1. Some sort of amazing desert that includes brownie a la mode or something.
2. A new computer. It’s been 5 years with MacBook love, and it’s starting to get sluggish.
3. A new book that is as magical as the last book I read (night circus by erin Morgenstern).
4. A new fall wardrobe. I’ve never had seasons before I don’t know what to do… I am only prepared for 70 degrees.

Kate October 19, 2011 at 11:11 pm

Way similar and much more affordable.

Tiffany October 20, 2011 at 12:49 am

This is an awesome list, I don’t know what I’m drooling over more-the lemon blueberry bars or the idea of printing out bags with special stuff on them—I die!!

I sympathize 100% with the stuff you would love to buy but you are too practical. I finally bit the bullet and got a North Face jacket……but on Ebay. No way I am spending $90 on a jacket when I can get it on ebay for $25.

cathy@1970kikiproject October 20, 2011 at 6:03 am

lists ARE fun!! easy to read and easy (easier?) to write!
thanks to kerryne for saying she can’t live without coke zero. thumbs up!
love the idea of cookie dough cups and ice cream scoops in the muffin tins. very neat!
four all-time favourite movies: when harry met sally; the princess bride; a few good men; legally blond.
hope you got thru that still-to-do list, j!

Those are four crazy clever things that I will have to try, and one super cute bernese mountain dog. If I ever get a puppy, which is unlikely, that is the breed I would like to get.

Corey October 20, 2011 at 10:33 am

I advise you to not get a bernese mt dog if the breed sheds as much as my malamute does…omg! stick with the doberman! I want one of those too someday

just some friendly advice! love the blog!

Janetha October 20, 2011 at 12:40 pm

This just may be the best list ever.

Allison October 20, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Hi Janetha-Are you planning to rescue a certain dog breed, or do you plan to go an actual breeder? I hope you decide to rescue as the shelters are extremely overcrowded, animals are in immediate danger of euthanasia.

Janetha October 20, 2011 at 12:39 pm

Oh we will definitely get our next pup from a shelter!! Also.. we one day hope to have enough money to own and operate a rescue sanctuary. BIG DREAMS.

Allison October 20, 2011 at 1:26 pm

Love it, thank you. I wish everyone had your mindset!

Ericka @ The Sweet Life October 20, 2011 at 12:21 pm

Wow, that edible ice cream bowl thing is genius! I REALLY want to try it sometime. Also love the ice cream in cupcake liners idea!

<3

Tee @ She Writes, Bites, and Window Shops October 20, 2011 at 3:06 pm

Whhaaaat – that grey sweatshirt is $100?!? Also – the cookie dough ice cream bowls are GENIUS.

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) October 20, 2011 at 3:38 pm

LOVE that cookie bowl. Not sure about the bag-in-the-printer: my printer is a picky bitch and unless you put PERFECT paper in, it tells you to go eff off. your printer is nicer and less PMSy.

Poor you- rest up. I’m wiped out too. I saw the Boos for dinner and Amanda and I did a 6+ mile hike- I’m worn out in a good way, but stilllllll.

Aleks October 20, 2011 at 4:23 pm

4 things I love about Ireland after living here for a month:

1. Smithwick’s Pale Ale
2. Irish brown soda bread
3. Double-decker buses
4. Perfect running conditions tonight: 50 degrees, no wind, no rain!

Jess@atasteofconfidence October 20, 2011 at 5:29 pm

Ah love those bernese mountain dogs. We’ve been talking about what kind of dogs we want in our lifetime lately. My top ones: husky, golden retriever, and newfoundland. :)

Kait October 20, 2011 at 5:47 pm

4 things I love about autumn:

1) Crisp, fresh air
2) Changing leaves (New England native here)
3) Autumn produce (squash + apples especially)
4) The feeling of new opportunity that fills up the air. Maybe its because I’m still only 2 years out from school and planning on going back but something about fall makes me feel like I’m getting a clean slate. LOVE IT!

cameo October 21, 2011 at 11:23 am

Love the boots and the hoodie!
