in fun with friends

holy crap! hi, everyone. when is the last time i wrote a blog post that was not centered around the great fundraising act? i don’t even remember.. but i also don’t even care, because the fundraiser has been top priority these days. it’s been amazing. it’s been busy. it’s been fun. and it is gonna help susan kick cancer’s ass.

you can check out an article in susan’s local paper here: http://timestranscript.canadaeast.com/search/article/1427051

also, at 3 PM MST, you can check us out on her local news here (Click "Live @ 6pm AT" to watch) bit.ly/qAzP

cool! the donations are still coming in.. i will update you guys with a total soon.

*****************************************

last sunday, i had the chance to attend an incredible bridal shower for one of my best friends, jessica.

 IMG_1478

jessica is marrying a fine british fellow, so the theme of her bridal shower was an english tea party, complete with fun, floppy or crazy hats!  (remember this one from the royal wedding?)

image

i didn’t have a crazy hat, so i went with a fedora. improvisation, folks.

 image

the shower was disgustingly cute. jessica’s family did a brilliant job on the decorations, the food, the tea, EVERYTHING.  IMG_1483 IMG_1500

IMG_1474

this was my favorite tea pot.. a tea pot with tea pots on it! and a tea pot top!

IMG_1498

things started off with chit chat, tea and eating all the delicious food.

IMG_1503

there were some seriously awesome hats at the party!

IMG_1512 image image

there was a contest, and this was the winner! i voted for it, so i am glad it won.

image

it was 100 degrees out, so we took it inside for the obligatory shower games, which definitely included making wedding gowns out of toilet paper followed by a runway show.

image image

image image image

amber won.. i am confident it was because her gown was buttless. hussy.

image

after the runway show, jessica opened her gifts and we all wrote her a notecard with words of advice. now that i have been married for a year, i am definitely the expert on marriage, right?

image

it was such a fun time! thanks to jessica and everyone involved for making it happen. i can’t wait for the wedding.

ahhh! love this post :) because it’s about me :) your photo-taking skills are amazing I’m stealing some. That was so fun! I loved that you were a part of it.

I loooooooooove beanies, but I really love just grungy old baseball caps. I think I look really cute in them. (ha) I don’t wear them that often but I love the way they look.

Sabrina July 27, 2011 at 4:29 pm

I love this! Such a great idea for a shower.

NIcole C July 27, 2011 at 4:33 pm

I like my straw fedora right now! It saved my life this past weekend in san diego. My stomach however wasn’t so lucky and i have a hand print on my stomach. Blasted! Don’t fall alseep in the sun with no sunscreen. Beanies in the winter though..

Right there with on the english breakfast!

what a fun day!!

loving peppermint tea lately :)

Amanda July 27, 2011 at 4:43 pm

Love the hats!!! Your fedora is super cute on you. I look horrible in any type of hat. Even beanies for the snowtime. It sucks. I have a fat head. hahaha

I want one of my friends to get married so we can have showers to go to. They are so fun!

Colleen July 27, 2011 at 4:45 pm

For a kick, I love Morning Thunder from Celestial Seasonings. For something non caffeinated, I like Trader Joe’s Candy Cane green tea!

Erica July 27, 2011 at 4:46 pm

ah! I am so glad to fundraiser was a success :) So awesome!! What a fun shower! I loveeeeeeeee the fun hat idea. I’m not much of a hat person (I look funny in them!). But I would steal that fruit and cheese platter :)

Lisa @ Sunny Seed Stories July 27, 2011 at 4:51 pm

Oh I love the tea pot pot!

I rarely wear hats, but my favorite kind of tea is green (honorable mention to chai).

Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health July 27, 2011 at 5:06 pm

Aw that looks like so much fun! All of the hats are awesome :). I’m not really a hat person…they look weird on me for some reason haha. Oh, and btw, I’m doing my first giveaway on my blog! Feel free to check it out!

Pure2raw twins July 27, 2011 at 5:07 pm

too cute! love all the hats. I do not really own that many hats, for some reason I just do not think they look that great on me. Favorite tea lately has been our Dandy tea :)

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List July 27, 2011 at 5:08 pm

Watching the feed now. Hoping I didn’t miss it!

Talia @ TexasGunslinger July 27, 2011 at 5:10 pm

Fabulous photos, daaaling!

I’m not a hat person…at all. Not sure if I even own one. Sad, kinda, now that I think of it HA!

Tea…I love Kombucha and been drinking a whole lot more of it lately. Yay! :)

Roz July 27, 2011 at 5:16 pm

Love that you wore facinators for the bride! Congratulations again for all that you did for the fundraiser! At the risk of sounding creepy because you don’t know me from a hole in the wall, I’m sending a big electronic hug to you! You and Susan are both amazing and deserve all the press and accolades you are getting!!

Cheri Z July 27, 2011 at 5:21 pm

At our house fedoras or baseball caps win the day. When it comes to tea – iced chai is the total winner.

Laura July 27, 2011 at 5:48 pm

Beautiful shower!! Or, disgustingly cute for real!

I don’t look good in baseball caps but I can totally rock a big, floppy beach hat. :D

Jess@atasteofconfidence July 27, 2011 at 6:24 pm

Looks like a very cute shower. My favorite is baseball hats, but I look like Im 12.

cathy July 27, 2011 at 6:24 pm

what a fun, fun theme for a shower! i love all the hats.
and that “make a wedding dress out of TP challenge” is a fun one (i like it, anyway!). i agree – that teapot is adorable.
i dislike all hats, any way, shape or form. and i also dislike tea!
i don’t like to end comments on a negative note -> so! love all your colourful photos of the shower!

Juliette July 27, 2011 at 6:34 pm

Big beach floppy hats & Chai Tea.

The Delicate Place July 27, 2011 at 6:52 pm

i love the tea party idea! i’m a lover of masala chai, double bergamot & vanilla green teas. i absolutely adore the little birdie hat it’s adorable! also, i wanted to let you know that you are an inspiring and amazing woman to take on TGFA! we need more people like you in the world x

Katherine July 27, 2011 at 7:12 pm

I love an oolong and chia tea mixture!

Chels July 27, 2011 at 8:14 pm

Bridal showers are always so much fun! My fav hat to wear is a conductor’s style cap. I LOVE Starbuck’s Iced Passion Fruit Tea chilled.

Susan July 27, 2011 at 8:20 pm

What a cute shower theme!

I only wear hats in the winter, so I like anything warm that covers my ears. I have trouble shopping for them though because I have a big head!

Stephanie @cookinfanatic July 27, 2011 at 8:39 pm

love all those fun hats! i agree with you on the beenie hat, def my favorite (for colder months of course :) ) i’m an iced tea girl all the way… !

Melissa @ Live, Love, & Run July 27, 2011 at 8:55 pm

Such a great idea for a shower!!!

I’d have to say my favorite hats are beanies, too. I LOVE the winter for that very reason (and fall of course). I need to get my hands on a great floppy beanie for the fall. Any suggestions??

As for tea…Tazo Passion Tea is great iced, and for hot tea, Yogi makes a tea called Tahitian Vanilla Hazelnut…it’s AMAZING. Gotta try it!

julie July 27, 2011 at 9:01 pm

i LOVE bridal showers. actually i pretty much just adore anything that involves weddings haha idk i just think they’re so lovely and romantic!

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga July 27, 2011 at 9:40 pm

Congrats on being able to write a post like this. I know you’ve been working your tail off with TGFA! And we all thank you and bow down to you!!

I love all these hat pics. And the bright, cheery photos!! :)

Clare @ Fitting It All In July 27, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Hey Miss Janetha!
How do I find out the winner of the Sunbutter so I can email the company?
AWESOME job on all this by the way. You have made such a difference!

Jessica @ For the Fun of Fit July 27, 2011 at 10:41 pm

First time commenter right here – but I had to comment when it came to tea. I’m allergic to caffeine, so my options are slightly limited – but everyone needs to try Celestial Seasonings “Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride” – it’s a holiday tea that seriously tastes like cookies. Love.

Ellen Clifford July 28, 2011 at 12:22 am

I am a beret girl in the winter.
As for tea, I like it that much brewed from teabags, but I live looseleaf green tea brewed with a slice of ginger root!

Jessy July 28, 2011 at 12:55 am

I don’t really drink tea, but if I do, it’s usually mint tea.

I couldn’t watch the news live yesterday, so I watched it today here. ;)

Eden July 28, 2011 at 2:06 am

Ha, I nearly commented as “Janetha” cause i didn’t log out of your name!

It was fun being “inside” you ;)

Its also nice to see you blog again!
I miss you!

Aine @ Something to Chew Over July 28, 2011 at 4:54 am

What a gorgeous shower! Looks like you had a lot of fun :)

MelissaNibbles July 28, 2011 at 5:29 am

I love the hat idea. Looks like fun!

Jena July 28, 2011 at 6:24 am

What a fun idea for a bridal shower! I don’t wear hats to often except to run, or fish. They are just baseball hats, nothing special.

I can’t get over that mountain in the background of the group picture, amazing! …. being from florida I don’t see mountains to often, and I think it’s so cool when they are just in the background of a picture. beautiful

Hope July 28, 2011 at 8:31 am

What a beautiful shower! It looked like such a fun party! :)

My favorite tea is green tea.

Brigid of Vegging out in T-Town July 28, 2011 at 9:59 am

I had a tea party for my birthday last year. It was so awesome that I may do it again this year!

My favorite type of hat is, well, none. I look pretty terrible in hats. I do have a cute winter one I knitted that keeps my head warm, but otherwise, I skip hats. And my favorite kind of tea is lavender Earl Grey. I also love green tea and herbal tisanes — I’m a big tea drinker.

Michelle @ A Voracious Appetite July 28, 2011 at 10:38 am

Love that shower idea! It looks like it was a lot of fun. I’d be totally lost on the hat part though. I just can’t wear them! I have a huge head, haha.

My favorite tea right now is peppermint. So refreshing!

Emily July 28, 2011 at 11:10 am

Fun! Did you meet my friend Alena?? Love her. She is the one with the green print dress, second from left in the TP gown photo. Love ya miss! xoxo

jessiker July 28, 2011 at 11:16 am

Also I love iced tea the most. <3

holly July 28, 2011 at 12:33 pm

OMG…that is the cutest bridal shower ever! i want to be there with you…crazy hat in tow!

<3

LauraJayne July 28, 2011 at 1:13 pm

Love the theme (and the hats) – it kind of reminds me of the Bridesmaids bridal shower (French is different than British, I promise I know the difference) – but with less disaster and more fun!

Christin July 28, 2011 at 1:14 pm

Not a big hat person, but I do have a nice wide brimmed straw one that I got while at a renaissance fair…I got to wear it to a polo game where my British mother-in-law wanted to go for her birthday this year…I looked so proper! :)

My favorite tea is this delicious organic strawberry rose green tea by St Dalfour…it’s awesomeness in a teacup!

Annette@EnjoyYourHealthyLife July 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm

oh WOW, what a great idea for a shower!! I love that tea pot, so so cute.

And I WANT some of that food. Like right now ;)

Leah @ Why Deprive? July 28, 2011 at 2:07 pm

I think that buttless toilet paper gown is my favorite part of this whole post. :)

SweatyGirl July 28, 2011 at 3:01 pm

I looove hats! beanies are most comfy, I’d say.. but I have a cute floppy straw hat that I wear in my convertible to keep my hair tamed in the summer!

As for tea? I like variety! But good fruity herbal mixes are the best!

Bee @ B*tchy Bee July 28, 2011 at 3:06 pm

What a great idea for a party theme! Adorable! :)

katie July 28, 2011 at 6:33 pm

haha well I look awful in hats, and I really don’t care for tea… but it’s okay I loved this post and it looks like such a great afternoon and party!

Kim @ Imperfectly Perfect July 28, 2011 at 7:50 pm

What a beautiful shower! I’m taking notes because my sister is getting married next summer. So many things to do over this next year.

I never saw the hat from the Royal Wedding…..too funny! I’m not much of a hat person (don’t think that look great on me), but I did rock a beanie for the first time this past winter.

I’m boring. Plain ol’ Lipton black tea is my fave.

Lauren July 28, 2011 at 8:48 pm

Soo fun!!! I love a theme party. :)

To be honest, I’m not a fan of tea. But I do like the Japanese tea you get at a sushi restaurant.
