you know summer has hit when weekend activities involve baseball games and farmers markets. i have experience both within the past 24 hours.
utah isn’t well known for baseball, but we do have a minor league team called the bees. we are the beehive state, after all. last night, we headed out to the ballgame.
we hadn’t had dinner, so our first item of business was snagging some food.
now, i am not a big fan of hot dogs, but there are two occasions that i will eat one: around a campfire and at a baseball game. (oh, and at the airport in chicago, i guess.)
a chicago style hot dog with all the fixings. i am not gonna lie.. it was good. maybe i am coming around on my hot dog stance?
marshall had an all american dog and that didn’t tame his hunger beast, so he grabbed some fries, then i grabbed a few from him.
yes, he dips his fries in mustard. he actually hates ketchup.
turns out, baseball games are fun.. but not very intense or exciting.. so it makes a lot of sense to keep leaving your seat to get food. right around the fifth inning, marshall got an oreo shake.
oreo shakes are my weakness. well, any kind of ice cream is.. but oreo just so happens to be my second favorite (right after vanilla bean with fresh peaches).. so i managed to steal a bite or ten from him.
it started raining at the tail end of the game, but we stuck it out to the very end. it was worth it, because the bees pulled ahead and ended up winning by a point! or is it by a run? are there points in baseball? don’t ask me.. i never was one to talk sports.
moving on.
today was the first day of the salt lake city downtown farmers market. finally! i love the market!
we had the pups with us. me with randy and penny with marshall, of COURSE.
iced coffee is a necessity on a hot day at the market.
unfortunately, there weren’t many crops yet.. this weird weather we’ve been having has taken a toll (or so said the farmers on the news last night.) but there were a ton of rad arts and crafts!
i ordered a custom made bag from velo city bags—they are a lot like chrome bags and perfect when biking! it’ll be ready in a few weeks and i will be sure to show it to you guys.
marshall fell in love with this rooster painting. lucky for him, there was a smaller print of it (framed!) for only $20, so he snagged it.
the name of this booth caught my eye–
and his artwork cracked me up! what a creative way to utilize old silverware!
after walking around the market for over an hour, we decided to head home. marshall was craving a waffle from bruges, so we made a pit stop. penny, randy and i waited on the bench while marshall went in and ordered. penny was crying the whole time, wondering where marshall went. when he came back out she was SO relieved and hopped up into his lap. what a little baby.
randy then tried to act like a lap dog and hop into MY lap.. but i had to veto that attempt. sorry, randy. you are cute, but you are huge.
marshall had ordered a cinnamon waffle with fresh bananas, strawberries and whipped cream.
you bet i had three bites.
we spent the rest of our day on the go. i came home and had an egg sandwich and tackled my insanity workout (only 3 more workouts to go!) and then quickly got ready.
we had a huge family party to go to at marshall’s grandpa’s house. there were a whole lot of people there (many who i didn’t know) and i left my camera tucked away in my purse. it was a good time! i knew there wouldn’t be much there in terms of clean eating items.. so i had a protein shake on the way there.
after the party, we went to the gateway (an outdoor mall) where i bought a pair of tom’s and marshall bought a pair of pumas. weeee.. new shoes for everyone. well, not the dogs. but dogs don’t wear shoes. at least ours don’t.
we also had dinner at jason’s deli. i had the salad bar and am confident none of you need to see another salad. it was tasty and i had a complimentary ice cream cone after my meal.
welp.. that’s all for now. off to enjoy a summer night! hope you are doing something fun with your weekend.

Football is by far my fave but you can’t beat a good baseball game in the summer. We only have minor league here as well so it’s definitely affordable to go. I love Chicago style hot dogs even if they don’t include ketchup (I still want to know the reasoning for it)
I love that you all take the pups with you and that it seems doggie friendly there. We have farmers markets and I usually check out the one near my house since it’s within walking distance.
Baseball and football are my favorite sports to watch! Our farmer’s market hasn’t been the best either yet due to the weather! I still hit it up every week though!
I’m the same way with hot dogs… in sixth grade we did a consumer reports study on them, which was actually the beginning of my vegetarianism :)
I will eat a hot dog at a baseball game, and in the rare instance that I get a craving for one…
Penny sounds like Basil – he cannot STAND to be away from Jason (right now? Jason is at band practice… Basil is sitting on the edge of the couch, watching the door and every so often I hear a whine…)

What a great day you had! I actually don’t like watching sports except for track & field which is NEVER on tv!
I went to the farmer’s market today, too! Got some great ranker cherries, lots of veggies & local meat! I love this are b/c there’s a farmer’s market in nearby cities everyday!
My favorite sport to watch is probably hockey. I’m from San Jose, so our team is pretty legit (San Jose Sharks).
We have a ton of farmers markets here! I’m actually going to one tomorrow morning, I think!
So much fun! I love going to baseball games (not a fan of watching them on TV). Football is my favorite sport to watch. I hit up the farmers market here last weekend, but didn’t go this weekend. farmers market, yes HUGE one…literally across the street from me. the 3rd largest in the state of CA!!!! And it’s tomorrow morning, every Sunday a.m. I think I am gonna go…if I go to bed soon!
And I love the arts and crafts and hand crafted goodies…that’s just as good as the fresh food!

Favorite sport to watch: lacrosse and running races if I’m actually watching it. Football for the experience – I love fall and being outside in hoodies!
We have a couple farmer’s markets…but they are at pretty inconvenient times (e.g. 12-2 on Tuesdays!) so I rarely get to go.

Pretty much the only sport I watch religiously is hockey, but I know what’s going on in the other sports as well.
I love how it just seems like there are a million more things to do in the summer! Maybe it’s because the weather is nice, but I love just going to some random festival with my friends and just taking in the experience. So relaxed!

Everyone in Toronto put those little balloon booties on their dogs. I think it’s because the slush on the sidewalks in the winter was so messy. But still, it was a little ridiculous.
Anyways, baseball is my favourite game to watch!! It’s definitely long and boring though, so you have to make sure you go with fun people in order for hijinx to ensue. Hockey would be my favourite, but I can’t stand cold arenas.
My city has four markets actually. I’m not big into them because the crowds are insane and it’s one of the few times when my social anxiety gets really bad.

Sports — I really don’t watch them much. We probably watch more baseball (Twins) games live, but usually those tickets are free from work, so I’m not sure I’d actually want to pay to go see them. I suppose football is what I like the best?
Farmers Markets — we have 2 large ones within 20 minutes of us — we haven’t gone much this year, usually I forget until they are already closed! And the last time I went they were really short on produce too — more crafts and jarred foods than fresh.
That Forked Up Art is so cute, what a creative business! This time of year I love watching baseball, but my absolute favorite sport to watch is college basketball !
I am the worst girlfriend on earth – absolutely HATE watching sporting events. The only time I enjoy them is when I’m watching Gingie but that’s just because I think he’s cute :) Marshall’s a lucky dude face!

you’re right, that is a very summery weekend! i don’t like baseball UNLESS it’s live, and even then i agree that it’s just a great excuse to go get food :) we have had our farmer’s market open the past couple weekends and i NEED to go!

I’m not a big fan of sporting events unless it’s hockey. I may not understand ALL the rules but there is just something about the energy around the rink! Love it!
We have a little farmer’s market downtown that is open every Saturday until sometime in September. It just opened a few weeks ago and seems to be growing every week! I just went yesterday and visited a couple of new booths that I really liked…I bought a cup of freshly brewed summer tea sweetened with fruit and even though I don’t typically drink anything but water and coffee, now I think I’m going to have to pre-order some next week…it was delicious!

There are several Farmers Markets in NY but I have to say I rarely make it out there…the neighborhood where I live has a ton of cheap produce available, so I’ll only go if I want a special treat.
My favourite sports to watch is football (or soccer to Americans), but I also like basketball, GAA, tennis and rugby. I’m an avid sport’s watcher.
My town’s farmer’s market is much smaller than yours, but I go every week, to get all our fresh veg and hummus etc.
I don’t like to watch most sports, I’d rather PLAY!! Unless, of course, it’s my little guy playing then I’m all into it. :)
I haven’t been to the farmers market yet b/c of the weather, but I can’t wait!! I wish our weather would even out – it’s so inconsistent!!

ya know i’m not really one for tubed meats but there’s something about a ball dog (TWSS) that just cannot compare to when you grill your own at home. i don’t eat them often but if i’m at the park, it’s a given!

My favorite sport to watch is basketball. I understand the game well and it’s fast moving. I absolutely abhor golf – I will NEVER watch it on TV everrrrr.
I live in the middle of KS where farmers markets haven’t quite caught on yet. But there are a few in the area that I look forward to checking out this summer.

1. Hm. Basketball, probably. But I love boxing/fighting, football, soccer. We went to a premier league soccer game in London once; that was maybe the most fun live sporting event I’ve been to!
2. My town has a Wednesday and a Saturday market, all year round. I go whenever I can. The Wednesday one is the best, and at my old office, which was just blocks away, we used to take turns taking Wednesday “market breaks”. It was a good perk.
I’m not a big sports watcher, but if friends are going to the game, I’ll tag along usually.
Asheville has tons of farmer’s markets – but I haven’t been to them yet!

My fave is DEF college football, but I can get into baseball and basketball occasionally.

Baseball games are one of my favorite parts of summer! We have a minor league team here in Jacksonville but I’ve never been! I have been to a few major league games though! :D

We have a lot of farmer’s markets here! Some are pretty small, but I love the ones with craft booths too. I wouldn’t mind digging into that waffle- that looks tasty!
Dogs rule. Yours especially. I just bought bison hot dogs from Costco because a craving struck me and they are freakin AMAZING. I love them so!
Looks SO fun! I have yet to go to a Bee’s game, and I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go to the SLC farmers market. Provo’s just isn’t that great…Maybe this summer I’ll get up there for both!

We have a tiny farmer’s market in St. John’s, NL! Nothing compared to yours though! I love to visit it all the same!
AND I LOVE OREOS! I just had to say it. It is my favorite flavour of anything. I try to resist but the other night a bought an oreo cupcake from my local bakery… so good!

oh there are farmers markets ALL over the city in the symmer time and in the little villages around the city, I cannot WAIT to go!! the best stuff is the locally made treats like jams, cheeses, breads and even soaps! Of course the fresh fruits and veggies are just the icing on the cake!
