thanks so much for all the kind words about my new site!
not gonna lie, it is pretty overwhelming to move to self hosting. there is so much to learn.
i have decided to go through all of my old posts and pages to recategorize and retag them. that is around 1,000 posts and pages, so it’s a hefty project i have taken on. it will be better in the long run, because there are several recipes in my old posts that don’t appear on my recipe page, so once i am done, you all will have easy access to any recipe i have ever blogged about. i should be done with that project around august of 2014 at the rate i am going…
anyway! let’s blog.
yesterday after work, i did my insanity workout. i was thisclose to pushing it off a day, but then i thought about how fabulous it is to have saturdays off from insanity, so i made myself get the workout done. once it was over i felt lots better about myself.. and i was starving.
marshall & i headed up north to layton and met up with our friends. we had indian food on the brain.
we ate at taste of india, which is one of the best indian restaurants around.. especially if you live in davis county and don’t want to head to SLC.
marshall & i started with vegetable samosas.
Crispy turnovers stuffed with mildly spiced potatoes and green peas.
they were slightly spicy and very tasty.
after reading susan’s post earlier in the day, i had channa masala on the brain.. so that is what i ordered for my entrée.
Chick peas cooked in thick curry sauce with chopped onion and tomato.
the masala came with steamed basmati rice.
i also ordered some tandori roti, which is clay oven baked whole wheat bread, slathered in butter. the whole wheat part cancels out the butter part.. right?
i think one of the reasons i like indian food so much is because of the abundance of carbs. rice, bread and potatoes all in the same delicious meal? yes please.
i ordered my channa masala “mild plus”, which is on a spicy level between mild and medium. i like spicy food, but not so spicy that it overpowers the flavors.
i also had a few bites of my friends’ dishes: baygan bharta which is eggplant roasted in tandoor and sauteed with onion, tomato and green peas and vegetable masala which is mixed vegetables in a creamy sauce with chopped bell pepper, carrots, potatoes and onions.
dinner was amazing. i am never disappointed when i eat indian food.. i think it is slowly becoming more of a favorite than mexican food!
this morning i awoke bright and early at 8 AM. yes, that is super early for me for a saturday! not sure why i couldn’t sleep in.. but i went with it, got up and had some cereal.
i eventually ventured to get the mail and there was a mystery package addressed to me! i opened it up to discover the dopest headband ever:
it is a bondi band, which i have heard SO much about, and the best part is that it says “will run for ice cream”. truth be told, i hate to run.. but if there is ice cream at the end of the tunnel, you know i am game!
will the mystery mailer please stand up? i would like to thank you properly for this awesome gift!
well, i am about to hit publish.. i hope everything goes smoothly after i hit the button. hopefully this post gets sent to your google readers and other various types of feed.
enjoy your saturday! and your LONG weekend! i am going to make some french toast and then go for a bike ride. i also have to figure out what to make for my birthday BBQ tomorrow. if you have any awesome vegan side dish or dessert recipes, let a janetha g. know!
Qs~
1. do you like your food spicy or mild? or in the middle?
2. what is the last thing you received in the mail (that wasn’t a bill!)?

Oooh ooh!! It was me!!! Happy birthday JG! Happy to see it made it’s way to Utah from Texas ;)
xoxoxoxo
P.S. I know you’re not a huge runner, but I chose it because I noticed you don’t have a headband on to hold your bangs back in workout photos! I looooove my bondi band because I hate getting flyaways in my face when I’m all sweaty.
Susan!!! I LOVE YOU!! I have been wanting a bondi band since I saw them.. I thought they would be perfect for my pesky bangs. I love it! Thanks so much <3
I was going to claim the mystery mail just to sound cool, but Susan beat me to it ;) Since I don’t run anything other than my mouth, I would probably wear it when I eat so I have less distractions.
Confession? Even though I eat rice in some form just about every day, I’ve never had real Indian food. A culinary crime, I know.
Another confession? I’m also in the process of tagging or re-tagging all my posts in some form of organization, but my estimated date of completion is around 2015. Stay tuned.
Spicy all the way & I just received a pair of really cute shoes in the mail. Yah. P.S. MAY Bdays are the best!!! Happy Birthday!
June BDAYs are cool to:)
Here is a nice summer salad for any peach lover:
Dressing:
1/3 c. toasted walnuts
1/2 c. chopped (fresh) peaches
1/4 c. OJ
1 TS. lemon or lime juice
Salad:
1 head of green leaf lettuce (I like romaine)/chopped or torn
1 head of red leaf lettuce/chopped or torn
2 peaches, thinly sliced
8 radishes, thinly sliced
1 cucumber, thinly sliced
1/2 c. toasted walnuts
Put all dressing ingredients in a food processor & puree until smooth. You may need to add a little water, depending on the consistency you want.
Toss dressing with the remaining ingredients together & enjoy.
Thanks! Peach lover right here!
It worked! Fun bondi band! I have one that says, “Fight”. I actually bought it for a blogger whose aunt had cancer and she was raising money for it! I didn’t know the blogger, but another blog I read had promoted it, so I joined in the fun!
I like my food in between, but I hate all sorts of hot sauce – EW
The last thing I got in the mail was my new SELF mag! yay!
I love the new blog! It’s so YOU. Beautiful.
Thanks MP! Now I am working on Recipage…
cute headband! AND new blog!!
Awesome headband! Love the new site too girlie!
Yes this post appeared in my google reader — just in case you wanted to know that!
I usually like foods in the middle, but every once in a while I like really hot/spicy foods — especially if we’re talking about salsa.
The last thing I got in the mail was a giveaway I won: tons of Gu and granola packs from Living with Healthy Hunger.
oooo thanks for the memo. I am glad it popped up! Did you have to switch your feed?
Nope, I’m still subscribed to your old blog address.
awesome. thanks!
“not gonna lie, it is pretty overwhelming to move to self hosting. there is so much to learn. “-
GIRL…I went from Blogger to Self Hosted WP. It was a SHOCK to the system and I did it with snag after snag dealing with getting all my old blogger stuff migrated and transferred and my comments were being hosted on a 3rd party system, intense debate, so that added even more…and then pics to be moved from blogger/google storage servers to WP and my new servers: nightmare. Not to whine about my own situation but just tel tell you, YES, i understand!!
I just wrote a blogging tips 101 and 102 posts and told ppl, use WP from the beginning! And do any changes sooner rather than later :)
definitely love the blog design!! It’s so clean and organized. I am so technically challenged when it comes to blog related stuff so I bow down to you for being able to make the change to self-hosted!
mmm I love Indian food too!
And french toast + bike ride?? Yes please :)
I had Indian food last weekend and it was yummy! The whole wheat bread definitely cancels out the butter!
Your two first posts didn’t work for me in my reader but this one’s just fine! Love the post, love the design, and hope you had a nice bike ride!
thanks for the notification! sadly we didn’t go on a bike ride because of the rain :(
1. I like things spicy, extra spicy! Though the last time I asked for extra spicy at a Thai spot I had so much snot/tears running that I’m pretty sure my tablemates wanted to ditch me!
2. My last package was a box of magazines my mommy sent me; we share rather than doing double subscriptions so we don’t waste paper.
that’s such a great idea! when my subscriptions run out, i am totally doing that with my mom.
I really love the new blog layout! Congratulations for making the big leap. The food looks to die for btw :-) Yum!
I love that headband!!!
I love spicy food. I used to not really like it, but the older I get, the more I crave it. :)
Ahh! Love the new site! Everything looks great! :) I noticed above that you are getting Recipage–can’t wait for that!
I like my food in the middle! I prefer to not be miserable while eating–lol. The last thing I recieved in the mail was a thank you note for a birthday gift.
Thanks! Sadly, you are gonna have to wait a long time.. haha.. turns out it is more labor intensive than I thought. Slowly but surely!
Hey girly :) I’m so excited for your new site! I’m sure transitioning everything is a pain in the behind, but will be SO worth it in the end! I think I’ve told you this like 20 times, but I had a bad experience with Indian food and haven’t tried it since. However, both the samosas and the roti makes me want to give it another go :) That head band is SO cute. A great early bday gift for you!
1. I am a medium spice kind of girl- I can’t handle toooo spicy.
2. I just got a really fun thank you note and picture from Josh’s sister
I just had Indian food for lunch – baigan bharta nom nom nom. It was delicious, but the portion was WAY small compared to most Indian restaurants – I usually come home with a week’s worth of leftovers. :) Andddd my tandoori roti did not come with butter…bummmmer!
I like sort of spicy food, but not crazy! I got some Mix1 in the mail the other day and I loooove it.
Mmm…naan bread…
happy birthday! Just read about how good pickles and Romaine lettuce halves are on the grill. Not exactly a recipe but sounds intriguing!
Love the new look. So you run for ice cream and bike for french toast…nice!
Never get mail at least nothing interesting. Kind of a bummer.
email me your address, i will send you things in the mail :)
For the record, I wont run for ice cream. I dont think I would run for anything. I might walk or crawl. I don’t even think I would jump rope for ice cream but Deb’s been getting me to jump more so maybe….
Susan’s posts always get me hungry! and I too never really get too disappointed when Indian is involved. Correction: I get disappointed when I finish!
Get excited for your birthday! You turning the big twenty seve—-I mean eight! And dont neglect the mailbox….
oh really?! well marsh and i check our mail like once a week because we have to walk about 200 feet to the mailbox.. i will try to check it twice this week. i am sure if there was ice cream in the mailbox i would be more motivated to check it more regularly.
ooo, i’ve never had indian food because i can’t find anyone to go with me, boo hoo. wish i was closer to ya!
i’m still stuck on your new blog – love the font, have to tell you! thanks for sharing a bit of background on the switchover to self-hosting…but now i’m scared to ever go there!
enjoy your weekend, j!
thanks! the font was the first thing i picked out. i love that the lowercase A’s don’t have that weird loopy thing on top. make sense? haha.
Mmmmmmmmmmmm. I. LOVE. INDIAN FOOD. Have you tried Afghani or Pakistani food? Similar in concept (stuffed puff pastries, rices, veg dishes… etc) with a twist.
1) I’m a medium gal myself… I like enough spice to make things exciting, but I’m not really into mouth-numbing insanity- I like to taste my food! :)
2) I received a 14kg kettlebell as a birthday gift from my trainer! I wasn’t expecting it, so when it showed up in the mail, I was psyched! :)
no, i haven’t, but now i am convinced i need to seek it out! your trainer is awesome. i love KBs!
Oh man, I am a total spice wimp!
That headband is so cute! Does it do a good job of staying put? I
i just got it yesterday so i have no idea! i will report back once i use it.
Ha- that headband is awesome.
I got 2 coupons from the soy/ almond/ rice dream company yesterday. I emailed them telling them how AMAZING their new vanilla almond dream ice cream is. So, so good. Two coupons for 55 cents off each. Everything helps!
I got a package that was for someone else: my address, but another person’s name. We’ve lived here over a year and a half. I was very tempted to open it, but put it back in the mail today with “return to sender/does not live here” written on it in Sharpie. Hopefully it’ll eventually get to it’s real home.
i wonder what it was?!
LOVE the new site–the header, font, layout–all of it!
I love bondi bands, I need one that says will run for beer. I also adore spicy food, the spicier the better! I hated Indian food for so long but am finally starting to come around to it, I need to explore beyond tiki masala.
i used to only get the chicken tikka masala but have since branched out.. luckily marshall still gets the tikka masala so i get my fix AND get to try new things.
I’ve always wanted to make a raw vegan cheesecake. They look delicious and super easy!
Here’s a recipe I think looks good. There are also recipes for plain filled cheesecake with berry sauces online.

Love the new website! Very snazzy.
thanks for the link! i bet my vegan friends would love that. i ended up going with cookies this time around because they are quick and easy to grab at a party.. but this recipe will be on the agenda for another time!
Loving the new look! I like my food mild with a little spice, the last thing I received in the mail was a Zumba kit which I still have to try out! x x
i LOVE spicy food! i once ordered fajitas at a hole in the wall place & the steam they let off was so filled w/ spice, all the people in the restaurant started coughing! they had to open the windows and turn on the fans. i had to finish it out of pride (and because when i ordered it extra spicy i promised the waitress i wouldn’t send it back, no matter what). each bite had to be taken with a tortilla & my face was on fire!
did i learn my lesson.
no.
:)
wow. my mouth caught on fire just reading that.
Love your new site! Would you be able to dedicate a post to the process of self hosting?
i have no idea why my reply didn’t show up here (i think it was mailed directly to you?) but for the others.. here was my process: hire zestyblogconsulting.com, pay for him to do all the work.
i do have a lot of work to do on my own, however, because i want to organize my posts and recipes. i have 1000+ posts to go through, so that will suck.. but it will be worth it in the end!
I have only had Indian food once and I wasn’t that crazy about it. Your meal looks better.
I’m totally a spicy person or so I say.
I love spice! If I tear up and sweat then you know it’s good :) I have just moved to self-hosted recently too and it’s definitely quite the undertaking!
I didn’t send the package, but I do have the same Bondi Band. I think I love ice cream as much as you! :D
we should have an ice cream eating competition!
I can’t eat a whole meal thats spicy cuz then I can’t taste anything! I like spicy and sweet :) Love your new site. Good luck with the self hosting thing girlfriend.
I like spicy food!! :D
I love your new site! It is AMAZING! :D
I love bondi bands! They seriously do NOT move at all when you run!
The last thing I got in the mail was a giveaway package!
My in-laws live in Layton and love the Indian food from there as well. I love spicy Indian food so I will have to go next time we are in town.
oh yes, you should! it’s the best indian in davis county for sure.
Aww thats such a sweet gesture! And I agree that indian food is good. When I was in india I was more than glad to eat it everyday.
lucky! i would love to go to india!
My gosh that food looks divine!!! I had a samosa the other night as well, talk about delicious!
I love your new blog design!! So cool:)
Spicy food is the best, I love very very SPICY – vindaloo of jalfrezzi are my favorite Indian dishes :)
Hey love u’r blog and absolutely love your new layout..you are so inspiring, keep going girl!!
thanks.. i will keep going as long as possible!
Hope you have a great birthday!!
Super simple Vegan Spelt Cookies (no sugar added, they get their sweet from the dried fruit)
1 cup spelt
.5 cup applesauce
1 teaspoon baking powder
generous sprinkling of cinnamon
1 cup or a little less water
Mixins are endless.
I love raisins, goji berries, dried mulberries, shredded coconut, walnuts, and chia seeds.
You can make the cookies as big or small as you like:)
Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes.
Makes about 2 dozen small cookies.
this recipe is so simple and i love no added sugar. i am going to give them a go soon! thanks!
What a nice gift! The food looks delicious.
if you had any idea how long it took for this page to load in order for me to leave a comment, there would be no question how much I love you. we are on an island and there is a hamster running the internet.
indian food is acutally m7 #2 fave behind ethiopian-Naan is my favorite bread product on earth- even more than akmaks.
I apparently have something very sweet (ha!) from soemone very sweet (huh!) at home but I have to wait to open it- I doubt that Sam got into it but if she did, she’ll have the runs for sure. or maybe Ellie already ate it all. Or at least she ate anything that isn’t meant to be swallowed.
Miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pS my email is totally jacked up thanks to the hamster- got your text- hope I didn’t wake you up with the time difference! <3
clearly you are a true friend! i am sure sam ate the stevia and ellie ate the packaging. teamwork. miss you!
I LOVE spicy food! I always have to specify at Indian restaurants “Please don’t give me the toned down version!!”
you are a champ! i can’t even handle most indian’s “medium” version.
I just ran my first 10K yesterday and there was ice cream at the end….that’s pretty much the whole reason I finished. How long have you been doing Insanity?
oh my gosh, i might even run a 10k for that! i have 2 weeks left of insanity.. i have been doing it since april 3 but took a week off when i got the flu.
Ice cream makes everything better. I’ve taken the past few days off of Insanity and am slightly dreading how sore it’s going to make me again hahah. Good luck with your last two weeks!
AHHHH! Janetha I love the new blog! It’s so simple and fresh-looking!
Have a great weekend!
Hella spicy! And I guess the last thing I got in the mail was either Nuttzo or my Keen shoes. You know, essentials.
