come on, you don’t think i could have gone without using that corny title this easter, did you?
the other day, i saw cathy talking about dying easter eggs. i got real sad because i didn’t have easter egg dying on my agenda this year, and it’s something i have done EVERY year for the entirety of my life. i immediately called my mom and made a date to dye easter eggs.
it may have just been momma b and myself, but the tradition lives on!
we had a rousing game of rummikub beforehand, while the eggs boiled and cooled. she won.. next time, remind me to play boggle. that is one game i never lose. after she kicked my butt at rummikub, we laid out newspaper and prepped the colors.
we had two dozen eggs to color all to ourselves.
let me tell you, we are real creative ladies.
packers egg!
cracked egg! (you can’t see, but it had lines all over it…)
meals + moves egg!
so colorful!
after our egg dying festivities, i packed up my eggs and took them home so the easter bunny could hide them at our house.
when i woke up this morning i saw that the easter bunny did a really great job at hiding the eggs.. they were still in my fridge. i figured he had a rough night and let the fact that he didn’t visit our house slide.
we headed up to my parents’ house and were relieved to see that the easter bunny made it to their house and left us some fun easter goodies.
good thing! penny would have been sad without her easter doggie treats (that are shaped like kitty cats and mailmen, by the way!)
once the whole family arrived (minus the bills fam who lives in california
), we embarked on our annual easter egg hunt!![]()
when i was a kid, we always hunted for hard boiled eggs. yes, the ones that we dyed the day before. we would get super sweet easter baskets full of candy and toys, then we would empty the baskets out and go find the hard boiled eggs. there were always one or two eggs that wouldn’t get found, and we figured that it would turn up around july sometime.
these days, the easter bunny hides plastic eggs full of candy and quarters. i remember always wishing i was one of those kids who got to find plastic eggs full of money, but i was always stuck with the hard boiled eggs. looking back, i am real glad we kept it real with the hard boiled, dyed eggs. it is a great memory and a great tradition. that’s my trip down memory lane for the day.
anyway, back to the eggcelent egg hunt! we were told to find 10 plastic eggs and 2 real eggs. we hunted and gathered our little hearts out.
after all the eggs had been found (well, after we each had our 10 plastic and 2 real eggs), we noticed that there were still eggs all over the place.
hmmm.. peculiar… momma b just told us to find the rest and that she had no idea why there were extras.
after all the eggs were REALLY found, we had a few fun family photo ops.
can you believe these guys are only weeks apart in age?!
kiddos!
kisses!
my little fam.
love my momma b.
and my dad.. he doesn’t get enough blog exposure, i know!
we basked in the sun for a bit.. just being glad that it is actually sunny for once! come onnnn summer.
everyone had to head to church, so marshall and i came home and did our insanity workout of the day. today was day one of week four! we are still going strong.
when i got done working out, i looked at my phone and saw a text from my mom.
um. yeah. the reason there were so many extra eggs? because marshall and i were not supposed to find 10 fake and 2 real TOGETHER, but separately. and it took that long to figure it out.
and yes, now every time we forget something or do something real dumb, we say we’ve had a stroke. it’s all about being light-hearted, folks.
well, i am off to prepare an easter feast! you can be sure i will post about it later on.
HOPPY EASTER! i am so corny.
Qs~
1. egg hunts: real or fake eggs?
2. easter candy: do you have a favorite? i am not big on candy but i like those egg shaped candy coated malted milk balls. i had a purple one last night!

Happy Easter to you and your family!!
I loved easter egg hunts as a child! Mike hides eggs for us around the house and fills them with fun coupons he writes out to do fun things like a family movie night for instance ; ) he is great!
Love the pics and we dyed eggs today! It is a tradition I do every year too! Mike never did that much but I never miss a year!
Love you!! xoxo
Enjoy the easter feast!!
aww what a great Easter tradition!!Momma B is the best!
we always hunted for plastic eggs with stuff inside of them!and peanut butter cups are my favorite Easter candies:)
fake eggs! fave candy: something resees related :)
Real eggs! Cadbury eggs once a year is a must!
Woo hoo! Just sent you a message with my address!
We always do real eggs and then my grandpa eats all of them, haha…it’s been happening for years. This year the bunny didn’t bring me candy in my basket, he brought me laundry detergent. I’d say that’s a win :)
Sounds like SUCH a fun day! Glad you enjoyed it, Janetha! Those eggs are too cute. :]
We grew up with the fake ones with money and goodies inside. Now the kids in the family find the plastic eggs BUT some of them have numbers written in them. The number correlates to the turn you have to pick out special treats at the end. Usually the special treats are simple dollar toys, coloring books, extra candy, etc.
Janetha, I also love that your family can joke around about the stroke. I strongly believe humor and laughter are what keep us strong. When we can step back and joke about something is when we know we’re strong enough to overcome it. :)
My fiance and I hunted eggs today. I thought we were the only adults who were down for it. So glad to see some others joining in, haha… and Ryne would NEVER hunt eggs with me, he’s out for blood and would think I was just in the way…
we always had the real eggs inside that we’d hunt for before church, and then after church we’d hunt outside for the plastic ones. two egg hunts > one egg hunt!
I love easter egg hunting! When I was a kid we always coloured Easter eggs and then searched for chocolates
Oh my goodness, the cheeks on that little one! What a cutie.
1. My parents always hid the little foil-covered chocolate eggs, and our easter baskets (which had real eggs in them!). Those little eggs were tricky to find, and there were always a couple that would turn up as a melted, foil-y mess months later.
2. It’s not candy, but my fav easter treat was always my mom’s braided easter bread. It’s soft and fluffy and lemon-y and sweet and has colored hard cooked eggs sitting in the braid. Candy, though… I love a dark chocolate bunny!
Happy easter!! I bet your easter feast is delicious :)
I will say I’m for real Easter eggs. Not only do I LOVE hard boiled eggs for a snack, I just find kids get enough candies in their Easter basket, so the Easter egg hunt shouldn’t add to the sugar! Just to keep it SOMEWHAT healthy:)
What a fun day! I have dyed Easter eggs in a few years and I totally miss it! We will be bringing the tradition back when the baby is born for sure. Love the Easter egg hunt too- all of the kids are adorable. Thats hilarious about the “extra” eggs :). We didn’t really hunt for eggs when we were little, but I wish we did. We just got baskets and then had a special meal. I will definitely be hiding both real and fake eggs for the babe. Favorite easter candy? Probably the chicks and bunnies that taste like circus peanuts
happy easter :) we usually do fake eggs and hide money in them! side note: i am in love with the cheeks on that little boy!!what a cutie!
Such cute pictures! Love your family :D
Too funny about the eggstra eggs ;)
AWww, I love your family traditions. That’s too funny about the eggs! :) Happy Easter Sweet heart. I hope you and your family had an incredible day. :)
I love the egg decorating pics! Great childhood memories for me!
And I love that screenshot of your iphone. The geeky part of me wants to know how you did that! Did you take a pic of your iphone screen and then just edit and upload the pic to the blog?
Anyway hon…happy Easter!!!!
ive always wanted to dye/paint eggs! Oh the htings I miss out on being Jewish…
happy easter!
HAHA this looks like so much fun! And I lovelovelove that photo with the puppy kisses :)
Happy Easter!
I don’t think I’ve EVER dyed real live Easter Eggs. Or tie-dyed, which might sound unrelated, but it’s not, because I’m typing about dying things. Either way, your dyed eggs are totally fun and I still ate my fair share of Easter candy (and other dessert-related foods) to make up for all of my long-run related caloric deficiencies (or so I told myself…). Happy Easter!
We dyed Easter eggs this weekend too! It was Seth’s first time doing so, and I think it will be a tradition for the two of us from now on:)
i love all your family photos, j! everyone looks so happy to be together.
and yip-yip-yippee for easter egg decorating! that is SO COOL that you and momma b got to dye eggs together – and a dozen each?! i highly approve!! my brother would be esp impressed by your “meals and moves” egg! :) they all turned out great!
we never hunted for real eggs – just other treats that my parents hid. and never outside, always inside (that’s ontario at easter for you!)
happy easter night!
Oh my gosh SO FUN and so darling Janetha!!! Happy Easter! I want to come to your house next year!
Thank you SO much for the info on the Greek Yogurt! That wasn’t preachy at ALL. It was SUPER helpful actually. Because I don’t like the flavor of it by itself I’ve been steering clear all these years, but I think I can handle it mixed in with stuff, so I’m super grateful for the tips.
Thanks again my dear! You’re the best! xoxoxo
i’ve never actually done an easter egg hunt before, looks like a lot of fun!
i like any chocolate for easter haha
Христос Воскрес!
Wow that looks like so much fun! My church did an easter egg hunt, and we had clues as to where the eggs were hidden.
I’ve never used real eggs, but that seems very authentic!
I like your shoes in that picture up there. What brand are they?
I never had an egg hunt I don’t think. My mom usually would just hide my Easter basket. My favorite Easter candy is peanut butter chocolate eggs.
i haven’t dyed eggs or hunted them in too long.
tomorrow i go to the drugstore for cheap easter candy!!!
egg hunts are fun with fake eggs with money inside!
Money in the plastic eggs? Really? That never happened and I didn’t know! We always had little candies inside like malt eggs or something yummy. I’d rather have the candy anyway!! :-) I remember the real-eggs going unloved but boy I’d be all over that nowadays!
so great to see momma b looking so fab!
Love yooooouuuuuuuuuuuu!
Great post & Happy Easter! I love the pictures of the dogs with the babies! Precious!! :)
We set out the real colored eggs and then hunt for the fake eggs. Jason’s mom and grandma both load up the eggs with cash. It is pretty awesome :)
that little boy in plaid with those cheeks – ADORABLE! love little kids… from a distance, that is ;)
1. as today was my first easter egg hunt, i don’t have much of a preference or history with these things, but i like the idea of dying eggs. it’s cute. but kids these days (ha) don’t seem to be into that stuff as much as we were. apparently there are stencils and things now to decorate the eggs, but it’s easier to just use the plastic i guess.
2. not big on easter candy. just give me a chocolate shaped bunny of sorts and i’m good to go.
Aww, I haven’t dyed eggs in FOREVER! We always dyed eggs the night before Easter, but we always hunted plastic ones. And I swear most of our Easter’s were spent hunting indoors! And in tradition today, it stormed like crazy! Geez!
I’m not a huge candy person either, but I used to eat Reese’s eggs by the truckload!
I love the lighthearted joke about the stroke. I work in a hospital and me and my co-workers do the same thing! Lol!
Sounds like you had a great easter. I love Robins Egg Woppers….I can’t stop eating them.
So fun! Your mom looks beautiful and happy :)
wow, Easter with your family looks like so much fun… we don’t do anything like that here; therefore I may have to start some new traditions :) p.s. Loved Cold Stone in the US… “we got a dollar…” :D
we always did the real ones and then made deviled eggs together…and i do love the reese’s peanut butter eggs around Easter time! although we didn’t have any this year – probably a good thing after indulgent vacation though ;)
What a fun easter. I haven’t dyed eggs in so long!
i have not dyed eggs in years
you and your mom are so beautiful!
glad you had a wonderful Easter!!!
I think i’ve only ever died eggs once, definitely something i need to make into a tradition
Cadbury creme eggs are my MOST favourite thing :)
Is that a Volcom egg I spy? Awesome.
I love that your family is so traditional with the egg hunt and baskets! I’ve never really celebrated Easter apart from going to church and eating a little chocolate, but seeing your adorable family makes me want to join in on the fun!
You made some baller eggs! Way more creative than I ever got haha.
Your fam is adorbs! Especially your puppers :)
Sounds like you and your family had a great Easter! Your Mom is the best!
Those Easter eggs are so beautiful. I don’t have a preference about real or fake eggs. Fave Easter candy? I love Peeps! Dylan’s Candy Bar carries dark chocolate covered Peeps and they are incredible!
aaww! that looks like ssoo much fun! I love Easter egg hunts. I dont care how old I get, they still rock. We had a mini one in our apt this year. I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday!
I’m pretty sure my brothers, their girlfriends/wives and Spencer and I had more fun decorating the eggs than my kids did ;)
Real eggs! That’s how we grew up doing it! We got baskets full of goods as well. My 23 year old boyfriend dyed eggs for the FIRST TIME in his life on Saturday. What a sheltered child. lol! I like the Robin’s Eggs and Sour Jelly Belly’s. In moderation. :)
Happy (late) Easter!
My favorite candies are also the Robin’s Eggs malted eggs, but not to eat… When I little my sister and I would lick them and rub the candy coating color all over our lips then eat the candy and wear the “lipstick” to church. I still like putting on the lipstick!! Now my hubby snaps a photo and eats the candy. :-)
that is exactly what my friends and i were doing on saturday night! haha.
Aw I love your easter recap and painting eggs looks like so much fun! I remember when i was little, around easter time (since Im jewish) I always heard about kids painting eggs, and one time I begged my mom to do it, so we dyed eggs…my dad wasn’t thrilled watching us lol but it was fun!!!
