in meals

giveaway is closed, thanks for entering!

hey guys!

i know i have bombarded the blog with giveaways lately. i usually don’t like to do so many in a row.  i try to have a balance between meals, moves, random rambles, serious business, dogs, family, friends, product reviews, giveaways and meaningless riffraff… but when things like earth day roll around, there is a lot of organic-ness to be given away.  who am i to say no to giving away products from solid companies? that’s what i thought.  and the fact that i am hosting my own favorite things giveaway sponsored by myself just added to the whole jumble of giveaways. oh, and there are like 3 more coming up. hope you don’t mind, i will try to scale back sometime in june…

first things first, the winner of the nature’s path trio of goods is #60:

Faith @ lovelyascharged

I recycle all of my printed documents at the office and keep my own ceramic mug at my desk instead of using paper cups each time I run up for a coffee break!

congrats, faith! send me your mailing information.

Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food April 23, 2011 at 7:05 am

ohhh what a great giveaway! :)

I try to get organic version of the dirty dozen, peanut butter, and anything else that is reasonably priced! :)

krisrobb April 23, 2011 at 7:05 am

i try to buy as much organic as possible. sometimes my wallet prohibits me from buying EVERYTHING organic but i know i *vote with my dollar* so i do my best.

SB April 23, 2011 at 7:05 am

I try to buy organic dairy, meats and produce. It’s scary to imagine what all of the pesticides, antibiotics and hormones in non-organic products are doing to our bodies!

krisrobb April 23, 2011 at 7:05 am

i liked on fb!

Joy April 23, 2011 at 7:08 am

I’m all about organics – one that I use that most people don’t think of is organic dog food (when he is not eating salmon and rice) I figure I feed the hubs and myself organically as much as possible pup ought to have it too!

Holly @ The Runny Egg April 23, 2011 at 7:09 am

Awesome giveaway Janetha! I buy organic when it comes to the dirty dozen list.

CarolineR April 23, 2011 at 7:10 am

Nice giveaway!

I try to buy “the dirty dozen” (http://articles.cnn.com/2010-06-01/health/dirty.dozen.produce.pesticide_1_pesticide-residue-pesticide-tests-fruits-and-vegetables?_s=PM:HEALTH) organic to avoid those nasty pesticides as much as possible!

Kate April 23, 2011 at 7:10 am

Most of the produce I buy is organic (since most of it is the same price as conventional in my grocery store) and I buy organic meat when the weather is nice from our public market. Most yogurt I eat is organic too.

mering4 April 23, 2011 at 7:10 am

I LOVE that video! Very clever and a cool way to get the CE-yo involved :) I eat as many organic foods as I can get at the grocery store! If they don’t have an organic option, I just get regular.

Emily April 23, 2011 at 7:11 am

I try to stick with organic fruit, veggies, and meat as much as possible. It’s tough to go all organic (poor undergrad student), but I at least aim for buying “the dirty dozen” organic.

suzanne April 23, 2011 at 7:11 am

My favourite organic to buy is organic cherry tomatoes I eat them like candy so I make sure they’re organic! And I really do try to buy organic when possible.

Natalia - a side of simple April 23, 2011 at 7:17 am

I try to buy organic fruits and vegetables but honestly it’s hard with a tight budget. So when I can’t manage it, I just try to be conscious of what I am consuming and where it came from.

PS. You can never have too many giveaways ;)

Rosie April 23, 2011 at 7:18 am

i usually buy mostly organic produce !

Evan Thomas April 23, 2011 at 7:18 am

I look for organic produce, especially ones that I eat the skin of.

Beth April 23, 2011 at 7:19 am

First of all, anything organic that is cheaper (or only marginally more expensive) than it’s non-organic conterport I’ll buy in a heartbeat. Beyond that, I make it a point to buy organic versions of the “dirty dozen” fruits and veggies. For my husband and I, that means apples, grapes, spinach, and lettuce on a regular basis.

Stacey April 23, 2011 at 7:20 am

I try to buy as much organic products as possible. Bring a grad student strapped for money inpedes this process. I try to buy the dirty dozen fruits organic and milk and eggs too!

Tw April 23, 2011 at 7:20 am

I shop organic IF it is on sale….since I stay at home I have to set a budget. I buy all Organic greek yogurts with coupons. The fruit is a bigger deal b/c of my kids.

Alex (Om Nom Nom) April 23, 2011 at 7:20 am

My first priority is the organic produce on the “Dirty Dozen” list. I love when I have organic produce that I can send through the juicer without peeling!

butterjessfly April 23, 2011 at 7:22 am

I try and get organic produce when possible.

applesnoats April 23, 2011 at 7:22 am

it try to buy organic for most of the dirty dozen and always greek yogurt. I also love organic shampoos and conditioners

Jen April 23, 2011 at 7:23 am

Organic dairy is important to me…fruits and veggies when the budget allows, or if they’re the same price/cheaper/nominally more $$ than conventional.

sarah b April 23, 2011 at 7:26 am

i buy organic pretty much whenever possible – i decided long ago that it is worth the extra money. in the summer, i usually make exceptions for small local farms who simply can’t afford to get certified but practice all the same farming as organic farms. love buying local!

Gillian April 23, 2011 at 7:26 am

I buy most of my produce organic when possible because I like to support organic farmers (and my own health). Organic farmers have to work so much harder AND pay extra fees to become certified organic. They have to work with smaller crops, and suffer lower sales because their end product has to be more expensive for them to make any profit. I hope that if we all buy more organic the government will eventually realize we need to lower the price!

Crystal April 23, 2011 at 7:27 am

I try to buy as much organic as possible, but eggs and dairy and soy especially. Although sometimes it just seems like grocery stores are just trying to make a huge profit from us, and double or triple the price of organic just because they can.. I certainly don’t make enough money to support all organic lifestyle!

Jessica April 23, 2011 at 7:31 am

We buy as much organic as possible. I have 2 little boys and we try our best to avoid putting any nasty chemicals into their bodies.

gabbysgfree April 23, 2011 at 7:34 am

We try to buy organic 100% of the time if we can. We get our veggies from a local CSA and our meats from a reputable butcher. I also like organic skin products because my skinny is finicky and does better with the all natural stuff.

Ashley @ 365 things April 23, 2011 at 7:37 am

I buy organic fruit because it just tastes better. It might all be in my head, but I don’t care as long as its yummo!

katshealthcorner April 23, 2011 at 7:37 am

I did a whole post on why I buy organic.
http://katshealthcorner.wordpress.com/2010/12/28/should-i-eat-completely-organic/

One of the things I buy is Organic Apples!!! YUM! :D

Jess April 23, 2011 at 7:40 am

I buy all the “dirty dozen” produce items organic…I also try to purchase grass-fed/free range meats/eggs when I can.

jen mathers April 23, 2011 at 7:44 am

I have been slowly transitioning to organic foods… my first switch was milk because I think it’s one of the most important items to buy organic… that and it just tastes better :) Since first starting, I buy all my dairy, fruits and veggies organic. This is the perfect giveaway for me..organics and coupons… yay!

Rachel April 23, 2011 at 7:45 am

Anything I bake with is organic. Once I have a “Big girl job” I hope to be able to buy all organic fruits and vegetables. Its important to me to eat food that is natural and not containing pesticides.

Rachel April 23, 2011 at 7:46 am

I am now following Oikos on facebook!

Hallie April 23, 2011 at 7:49 am

I buy organic as much as I can, especially organic chicken. I also belong to a CSA which supports local and organic farming. But I can’t buy organic all the time because it’s expensive and we go through too much milk, ground turkey, yogurt, etc., to buy organic as much as I’d like!

Lauren April 23, 2011 at 7:50 am

the dirty dozen are why i buy organic, like many people! i’m a broke college student, though, so organic isn’t always possible….

Lauren April 23, 2011 at 7:51 am

and I just liked Oikos!

Jessica P April 23, 2011 at 7:52 am

I don’t usually buy organic, but that’s only because I’m on a budget. I wish I could buy it more and when i’m done w/ grad school and not on limited funds, I plan on it :)

Jessica P April 23, 2011 at 7:53 am

Liked Oikos on FB!

Kate @ Snowflake Kitchen April 23, 2011 at 7:58 am

I try to buy organic and local when we can but its been a struggle with our budget lately.

Paige April 23, 2011 at 8:10 am

I don’t buy organic currently but once we’re a TWO income household, I would like to switch my boyfriend over to organic milk, then eventually organic fruit/veg, at least the dirty dozen.

lifttorun April 23, 2011 at 8:11 am

Oikos is my favorite!
I occasionally buy organic products; especially if it dairy. I want my dairy products to be free of added hormones and any other drugs they add to cows and such. Also, while I don’t eat meat, I highly encourage others to buy organic meat just because it usually means the animal was grass fed and not treated inhumanely.

lifttorun April 23, 2011 at 8:12 am

Oh, and I left a comment on their facebook. (:

ashley hutton April 23, 2011 at 8:14 am

i just recently have been trying to go organic. i try to buy fresh fruit and veggies organic and i’ve tried to start buying meat. i don’t know why, i just have tried to jump on the bandwagon. ;)

ashley hutton April 23, 2011 at 8:15 am

i liked them on fb!

Sally H April 23, 2011 at 8:15 am

Rachel April 23, 2011 at 8:16 am

I mostly buy organic fruits and veggies. I think avoiding pesticides in my diet is pretty important regardless of the extra expense.

Cate April 23, 2011 at 8:18 am

I buy as much organic food as I can, particularly produce and dairy

Michelle April 23, 2011 at 8:27 am

i always buy organic yogurt because I honestly think it not only tastes better but I LOVE COWS. In my culture, we believe cows have spirits, so letting them roam and treated well is important! I do not eat beef.

Alice April 23, 2011 at 8:30 am

I usually don’t buy organic foods. I want to buy organic but since I’m a student, it can be expensive!
