snow day.

in meals

didn’t have the big ol’ camera with me today.. so here are a few tidbits through the lens of my iPhone.

first, can we talk about daylight savings time for a minute?

i love it! i love springing forward and the fact that it stays light later. i work 40 hours a week. i work for a window company in an office that has no windows. (i know.) when i get off each day, i like a little sunshine in my life! so i happily spring my clocks forward. in fact, i reset all my clocks last night because i was so excited.

it drives me bonkers that, for the next week, people are going to be saying things like: “it’s nine o’clock but it’s REALLY eight o’clock.” no. it’s not. it’s really nine. happens every year folks, get used to it and stop bitching. sorry, but i‘m not sorry. just because one night is an hour shorter than the rest of them doesn’t give you a reason to cry about it and complain about “losing an hour of sleep” for the next week and a half. you should have gone to bed an hour earlier or slept in an hour later.

the end. thanks, i needed that!

pot-o-coffee in the AM.

iPhone 056

in addition to the coffee, i fueled my morning with some protein oatmeal+blueberries+chia seeds+almond milk. no photo because you’ve seen it here before.

i snagged sofia and her boy and we headed up to my stomping grounds—brighton resort.

iPhone 057

they skied, i snowboarded. we talked. for hours. these two new found friends from new york are SO much fun to be with. it’s too bad they live on the other side of the country and are catching a flight home tonight.

the sun was shining and the snow was fluffy. perfect day to ride!

iPhone 064

we took a break for lunch at molly’s<—the bar at brighton.

mary, bloody.

iPhone 061

chips + salsa.

iPhone 062

blue cheese burger + veggies.

iPhone 063

thanks for lunch, BT!

we went back out for another 5 runs or so, then called it a day. there was actually only one casualty all day and it had to do with a ski pole.

iPhone 059

a very bent ski pole. other than that, the day was perfect. actually, i think the bent pole incident made the day more perfect.

once i dropped sofia + BT off at their hotel, i made a quick costco run for the essentials (chobani, eggs, cottage cheese, you know.. the usual) and then went to visit momma b.

guess what she surprised me with?

iPhone 068

new kicks! houndstooth sanuks. love ‘em. thanks, ma.

i just ate marshall’s whole bag of chipotle chips + guac.

iPhone 066

he’s at the movies. hope he doesn’t mind.

and now.. the erin baker’s wholesome baked goods giveaway winner is…….

holy crud, that’s so weird because 22 is my favorite number! it was meant to be. and comment #22 was:

congrats, kate! send me your mailing address and your cookies will get out to ya stat.

thanks for everyone for playing along.

time for bed.. after all, i lost an hour of sleep last night. better catch up!

Oh my gosh, you should have heard the drama in our car last night about the whole springing forward thing. One guess on which girl was upset. We told her she’s been doing it for 10 years and she’ll be doing it for the rest of her life. I think I’m going to have her read your paragraph about it! Cute shoes… and we found another new taco spot. Yum! You have to come enjoy SD soon!

Laura (starloz) March 13, 2011 at 9:37 pm

i’ve never seen thick snow so i’ve never participated in skiing or anything involving snow.

oh, my best weekend meal. my kick ass salad from a cafe. yummy

actorsdiet March 13, 2011 at 9:42 pm

i’ve been eating a ton of chips n salsa in austin this weekend but now i want more after reading this post

Meg March 13, 2011 at 9:51 pm

I love your kicks! Funny you posted those, because I have a pair of houndstooth pumps that I wore today! Yay for houndstooth love.

I snowboard a teeny bit, but I don’t go enough. Best thing I ate all weekend? Honestly, a rice crispy treat I was craving, it was really REALLY good. :)

Lisa March 13, 2011 at 9:54 pm

Love skiing…but totally am ready for spring now!

Runeatrepeat March 13, 2011 at 9:58 pm

Na, I pass on the winter sports. But, I’m sure that was predictable :)

edenseats March 13, 2011 at 10:16 pm

Ugh!!! I want to be stolen! I love skiing! Ever since my dad had his hemorrhage back in november, he’s been missing skiing the most. My dad and I used to go skiing ever year when I was living at home. We’d go to Canada and to Mammoth and Tahoe. My point is, this was a terrible teaser post!

Nothing too special eaten this weekend. I bought a kabocha squash which I forgot in the oven and totally burned to crisp :(

Sarah March 13, 2011 at 10:17 pm

i don’t do winter sports very regularly, but i love a good snowball fight or sledding hill! :)

best thing i ate all weekend? probably the massive savory crepe i had for lunch yesterday!

sofia March 13, 2011 at 10:43 pm

dear janetha,

you are the best snow-hostess (snowstess?!). just landed in LA (one more flight, ugh) after dinner at aristos, which like all your other reccs was fabulous. thank you again for everything, we both had an awesome day. you know we’re gonna snag YOU when you’re in NYC, right? and I say ‘we’ because BT thinks you’re a cool gal too :)

talk soon!
-sofia

Erica D March 13, 2011 at 11:12 pm

Not really into skiing or boarding, but I can do both pretty well! Surprisingly, the best thing I ate all weekend was the little side salad I had after my Sunday rugby game. I just NEEDED vegetables and wolfed it down so fast that I only ate 1/4 of the wrap that it came with! So good.

MelissaNibbles March 14, 2011 at 1:56 am

Yes! Thank you girl. People need to shut up about the time change. It happens every year and it’s on a weekend. Your body really doesn’t miss that extra hour. People complain just to complain. Get some real problems. Jerks.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) March 14, 2011 at 2:45 am

Winter sports..i used to love to ski, ice skate, cross country ski, you name it, loved it. Just hate the cold!

Bloody mary’s. omg. I love them. They don’t love me. Sodium city. I wish i could indulge. I want one so badly right now :)

Naomi March 14, 2011 at 2:52 am

cool photos, janetha!!! I love that coffee one, it would be perfect blown up and in your kitchen!

I had a great weeekend, didn’t eat anything too exciting but I did have a whole wheat wrap with hummus and grilled chicken adn FETA oh man I have missed cheese since dieting for my competition! but It will all be back in no time!

to be honest, I am not a total winter person, I much prefer teh beach and summer time, but I do ski and not to shabby at it!

1970kikiproject March 14, 2011 at 3:11 am

i love that footwear! aren’t moms the best when they just know you’ll love something and so they pick up a surprise treat for you. have to say, i love your mom…although i only “know” her from how you’ve shared her on your blog – but her sweetness shines thru!
you tell ’em re spring forward time change! i agree!
glad you got to snowboard…are the skiing days for this year numbered? i am looking forward to SPRING and warmer temps for outdoor sports and activities, truth be told!
hope you have a great monday!

Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) March 14, 2011 at 3:29 am

That looks so FUN! I really would love to get more into snowboarding. I used to ice skate a lot, but now I stick primarily to snowshoeing and occasionally cross country skiing. Next year I’m going to hit the hills. :D

Heather March 14, 2011 at 4:13 am

I wish I knew how to ski or snowboard!
Best thing I ate all weekend? Hmmm…….probably the peanut butter bars my mom made and brought us yesterday. She’s the best baker ever!

Erica March 14, 2011 at 4:20 am

Ok….I do love that it stays later longer! BUT- it made teaching Pump at 5:45 this morning a little exhausting ;) What a fun day. Chips and salsa- YUM! The houndstooth sanuks are also super cute. BEST thing I ate this weekend? Oh gosh- probably one of my favorite candies- raspberries & blackberries ;)

janetha March 14, 2011 at 5:34 am

Ok… You have a good excuse! PS sooo excited for a girl!!

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine March 14, 2011 at 4:29 am

I’ve skiied since I was three, and this is the first year of my life I haven’t gone. Usually we head out west, and I miss how beautiful the Rockies are covered in snow!! March skiing was always my favorite because it wasn’t quite as cold :)

Heather March 14, 2011 at 4:38 am

i LOVE sanuks, and i’ve never seen the houndstooth version! NEED :)

withasideofhope March 14, 2011 at 5:12 am

I don’t participate in any winter sports. I would love to go ice skating though.

Best thing I ate this weekend was ravioli in vodka sauce and my chicken cacciatore in the crockpot. Yum! :)

kristastes March 14, 2011 at 6:24 am

haha. Solid rant and one that I share! I LOVE spring forward…I also work in a windowless office AND manufacturing floor and never see real light unless I am walking back and forth. The more sun I get before and after work, the happier I am!

janae @hungryrunnergirl.com March 14, 2011 at 7:30 am

LOVE the new shoes. I could not agree MORE with you about the whole complaining about ‘losing’ an hour!!! Glad you had such a fun day and that burger looks amazing!

Katie March 14, 2011 at 7:45 am

those shoes are so cute!!!! Your mom is so cute to get you those!! I love them! I just love comfy shoes too!

I dominate chips and salsa, like I could eat them and not feel full at ALL! I am a bottomless pit when it comes to those!

Happy monday! love u!

Salah March 14, 2011 at 7:59 am

I love those shoes!!!! and that looks like awonderful day! I have only skiied once, but it was super fun!!

Michelle March 14, 2011 at 8:04 am

The best thing I “ate” this weekend was a vanilla shake. Oh my gosh, so good! I also made a batch of your best chocolate chip cookies ever and they were awesome. I ate pretty well this weekend :-)

katecooks March 14, 2011 at 8:52 am

don’t you love surprise presents from mom? why do they always know EXACTLY what to get you?? also, i cant believe you have so much SNOW!!! you are thinking ski slopes, i am thinking beach! well, not quite hot enough yet but we’re getting there :)

Katie H. March 14, 2011 at 9:14 am

No winter sports here – unless you count hibernating.

We actually went to Market Street over the weekend, and I actually ordered something new this time. I got the Alaskan Halibut with Hollandaise and Avocado. I substituted sliced tomatoes for the potato option, and it also came with a bunch of root vegetables. Holy cow! It was so delicious. I know how you feel about Hollandaise, but really, this was so yummy, and not overly sauced.

I love your new cute shoes! Mom Surprises are the best!!

Stephanie @cookinfanatic March 14, 2011 at 9:44 am

I haven’t been skiing in foreverrrrr but last time around it didn’t go so well… of course that was like 17 years ago or something (told you it’s been foreverrrr haha) and i was in middle school and 20lbs heavier… but anyways, looks like you had fun!

runyogarepeat March 14, 2011 at 10:07 am

Yup, I love my winter snowboarding! I haven’t gone in a few weeks, but I’m excited to get some spring (warm!) boarding in this month.

Allison @ Runs A Latte March 14, 2011 at 10:09 am

I alpine ski, although I just learned how to cross-country ski in Stowe, Vermont a few weeks ago. I really love it, and wish all the snow had melted in the Midwest so I could try it again! It’s such an amazing workout. But there’s something to be said for blowing down the mountain, too. :)

Annette @EnjoyYOURHealthyLife March 14, 2011 at 10:14 am

I am skiing Brighton this week and I am stoked :)

Caree @ Fit-Mama March 14, 2011 at 10:19 am

I definitely can’t truely complain about the hour change because I love that extra hour of daylight at night! I too work in an offic with no windows and LOVE to see daylight when I can!!!

Katie March 14, 2011 at 10:38 am

Ugh, I hate it when people say “It’s really 8 o’clock”…too! My class has been saying it all day, and I’m trying to teach them that it’s not REALLY the time it was last week. Daylight savings changes the REAL time. :-) Silliness.

I was an avid snowboarder for about 5 years, but I lost my zest for it. I hope to take up skiing again someday! I also love snowshoeing.

I ate brownie yesterday that was pretty dang good.

lowandbhold March 14, 2011 at 10:59 am

I love Bloody Mary’s!

I don’t participate in winter sports :( I kind of hate the cold and I had a traumatic skiing incident as a young ‘en that kind of scarred me for life. I hope to try it again one day though.

Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather March 14, 2011 at 11:03 am

Snow! I’m a snowboarder (but grew up a skier) and haven’t even gone yet this year! We went snow shoeing last month but that’s about all the snow i’ve got so far :(

Best thing I ate… Mmmm that’s toughy to remember but probably my potato, kale and egg scramble. Breakfast is the best every time.

Jen March 14, 2011 at 11:32 am

I’m going to send people to read this blog if one more person cries about the time change! It’s not new, it happens every.single.year! Personally, I love it! The kids sleep in later, it’s lighter in the evenings (for after dinner park time!) and it means Spring is coming!!!!

Alyssa March 14, 2011 at 11:39 am

one word, two syllables: na – chos. ;)

and yes, they were deeelish.

I used to ski all the time as a kid. Every holiday, my parents would take me, and I eventually was a more advanced skiier than they were! sadly, though, since our move to North Carolina, skiing trips are few and far between. I really miss it!

Laura (LunaChickRuns) March 14, 2011 at 12:17 pm

I snowboard, but only for one week every year when we visit Colorado.

The best thing I ate this weekend was hands down Chocolate Thunder frozen custard from Kopp’s, a local custard stand. It was to die for!

janetha March 14, 2011 at 1:18 pm

Frozen custard is the BEST.

Ellie March 14, 2011 at 12:20 pm

I’ve always wanted to snowboard but haven’t gotten the chance yet. The snow looks so pretty! Hmm the best thing I ate was, oh yeah! Olive Garden’s new gorgonzola & pear ravioli with shrimp!! I’m not one to order creamy dishes, but this one was really calling my name. It was too good.

Jill {i run i eat} March 14, 2011 at 12:47 pm

No winter sports for me. I lived in Kansas for 15 years – not too many hills there. Then when I moved to Utah I wasn’t allowed to because of basketball.
I don’t know if there is anything worth mentioning that I ate. We snacked all weekend becuase we were moving.

Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices March 14, 2011 at 1:34 pm

TOTALLY agree- I LOVE the time change. I hate when it gets dark so early. It’s nice to do some things outside when I get off work!
Those shoes are SO you! I have to tell you, everytime I see houndstooth or owls, I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS think of you..and then I want to buy it for you, but then it’s always stuff I’m sure you have. Like, I have to ask, how many owl necklaces do you have?? If it’s not many…you might just have a few more to add to your collection ;)

Nicole, RD March 14, 2011 at 2:55 pm

Gorgeous photos! Your weekend looks amazing, and mighty tasty :)

I play ice-hockey and that is definitely a winter sport…that I’m lucky enough to play year-round.

And best thing I ate this weekend…hmm. Probably Indian food on Saturday night – yum!

thedelicateplace March 14, 2011 at 3:01 pm

our french press broke this weekend rip :( the shoes are so cute and seem right up your style! i played no winter sports because i am a wimp in the cold. the time change is rocking my face off right now. i woke up this morning super disoriented in the dark and now it’s 6pm and sunny and bright out. it takes me a couple days. best thing i ate this weekend was a tie, a perfectly cooked roast half chicken and a gluten free fudge brownie by moondance desserts. it uses eggs, butter, sugar and gf flour. holy crap. this was no brownie, it was a slap of decadent, tasty tasty fudge. you must find them now! i got it at whole foods!

Lisa March 14, 2011 at 3:11 pm

Totally! Snowshoeing is my most favorite winter sport. It’s such a fantastic workout but it’s fun so it doesn’t feel like a workout!

julie March 14, 2011 at 5:50 pm

mmm i wish i saw your breakfast. hahaha i’m kidding obvi

also i need to know which bodyrocks you’ve done! i want to try more but not sure which ones are good and i know you’re my go-to person haha share the wealth mama cita!

simplyshaka March 14, 2011 at 6:08 pm

I swear, I need to get an iPhone for the picture quality alone. That is very ironic about your windowless company, funky.

Red velvet waffle was the best thing, fo sho.

sophia March 14, 2011 at 6:33 pm

I agree with you. Losing an hour’s of sleep? Big deal. Stop bitching. For me, it’s losing an hour of homework, so I’m grateful. ;-)

Julia March 14, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Best thing I ate this weekend was definitely the sushi I had with friends on Sunday – it was AMAZING!.

I used to ski in high school and when I was younger – when I was in Utah I had some fun at the Canyons in Park City. I was never great though. I’d love to switch over to snowboarding now, especially now that I’m out west where great skiing is so close by.

Christin@purplebirdblog March 14, 2011 at 7:19 pm

Those shoes are the most badass kicks ever. <3 Momma B.

megan @ muncher cruncher March 14, 2011 at 9:22 pm

My fam is going to Brighton tomorrow!! I’m so jealous! That looks amazing…and those shoes are darling girl! xoxoxo
