BFD.

in meals,moves

yo! glad you guys liked my dinner post earlier today. here is one more quick + easy dinner idea. quite possibly my favorite thing: breakfast for dinner.

i got off work late today (stressful day!) and still had to workout. for my workout, i did another bodyrock.tv workout. i started with zuzana’s warmup again then did the workout. this one was called “hot mess workout” and it lived up to its name!

image

it reminded me of the game “add-on” that i used to play on the trampoline as a kid. you see, there was one exercise in round one. then in round two there was the first exercise plus another exercise. in round three, you would do the first, then the second, then the third exercise. you get it. there were five rounds. i don’t have a sandbag, so i used a kettlebell and a dumbbell instead. improvisation station!

here were the rounds:

  • round 1: 10 get ups
  • round 2: round 1 + 20 reverse lunge with overhead dumbbell press (15#)
  • round 3: round 2 + 20 kettlebell (20#) deep squats
  • round 4: round 3 + 10 burpees
  • round 5: round 4 + 40 toe touch crunches

this took me 15 minutes 59 seconds.

for the second part, i simply did the rounds again, but this time in reverse. i started with round 5 and worked my way back to round 1. this took 15 minutes 28 seconds.

for a complete breakdown, video and photos of the exercises, check out the workout on bodyrock.tv.

after the warmup, workout and cooldown it was already 7:45 PM! i was in no mood to cook something complicated. i could have easily eaten protein cereal for dinner. marshall would never have gone for that! but lucky for me, marshall was definitely down with breakfast for dinner, so i made one of my favorites..

IMG_8972

french toast!

i had a little his + hers action going on.

his bread: sourdough. her bread: spelt.

IMG_8975

his eggs: eggs. her eggs: eggbeaters.

IMG_8980

my french toast “batter” has always been the same 3 ingredients, learned this from my mom.  eggs, a splash of milk and a heavy shake of cinnamon.

IMG_8973

i made marshall’s batter with 2 eggs and my batter with about 1/3 cup of eggbeaters. i used skim milk for both and LOTS of cinnamon.

IMG_8976

for some added protein, i scrambled some eggbeaters for myself…

IMG_8985

and fried three eggs for marshall.

IMG_8987

his + hers!

IMG_8990IMG_8989IMG_8992

ketchup for my eggs.

IMG_8993

syrup for my french toast.

IMG_8995IMG_8996

i also had a couple pieces with peanut butter and jam. marshall had it out and was using it for his french toast, so i  couldn’t resist. i really wish i’d had some powdered sugar. that is my all time favorite thing to put on french toast!

this dinner was prepared, eaten and cleaned up in 30 minutes flat. not bad, not bad at all.

now, because i have been slacking, how about i tackle another day from the 30 day challenge?

image

i am on day 7: talk about your zodiac sign and if it fits in your personality.

image

i was born on june 1. this makes me a gemini. i am not one for astrology, i never read my horoscope and i don’t know what my compatible sign is. shoot, i don’t even know what marshall’s sign is. apparently whatever he is is what i am compatible with!

whenever i do read my horoscope (usually in a monthly magazine like cosmo), i feel like it is right.. but i also read other horoscopes and find myself thinking those relate to me, too. i am convinced that some horoscopes are written in a way that they could apply to EVERYONE.

here are a few characteristics of a gemini that i think match me pretty well:

  • adaptable
  • versatile
  • communicative
  • nervous/tense (i get pretty bad anxiety for no reason)

here are a few characteristics of a gemini that don’t describe me at all:

  • superficial
  • eloquent
  • unreliable

i found a list of gemini likes and dislikes and.. what do you know.. i agree with it 100%:

image

while i think this list could apply to most people.. i definitely think it applies to me. so maybe there is something to this whole astrology thing after all.

finally.. there is one excerpt i read from this website that i feel fits me to a T!

They take up new activities enthusiastically but lack application, constantly needing new interests, flitting from project to project as apparently purposelessly as a butterfly dancing from flower to flower.

hahaha.. and you wonder why this 30 day challenge is taking me so long?

Qs~

1. how do you feel about astrology? do you follow it or know a lot about your sign?

2. quick, pick one! french toast or pancakes?

Jess March 2, 2011 at 9:15 pm

I did this challenge, too, so I know a little about my sign. I don’t really believe in it, but it is fun!

fightingwithfood March 2, 2011 at 9:20 pm

Pancakes! In nearly every form, but especially with blueberries on top :) I don’t really follow my astrological sign, but I am a Virgo and I definitely fit the perfectionist mold in some aspects.

I love, love, love you for leading me to the bodyrock website. There are days when I have no desire to get ready, drive to the gym, unload, workout, repack and head home. I no longer have to search for good at-home workouts. Her body is good motivation too – can I please have those abs?!

Thanks, Janetha!

Rachel @ Grateful Girl Goes Gluten-free March 2, 2011 at 9:23 pm

I don’t follow astrology at all. And pancakes for sure! But that french toast looks great!

Candice March 2, 2011 at 9:23 pm

I love breakfast for dinner.. and lunch.. I would eat it for EVERY meal. We eat our french toast with those 3 ingredients as well. and powdered sugar is #1.

ashley March 2, 2011 at 9:25 pm

I’m a pisces and I feel like it’s pretty true to me except that I’m not a super creative person. The website I read says pisces daydream constantly and that’s definitely like me!

Waffles! not pancakes or french toast<-mine always seem too eggy :(
I'm in love with my waffle maker!

katshealthcorner March 2, 2011 at 9:35 pm

I love your mother’s 3-ingredient recipe for French Toast! I LOVE CINNAMON! :D

How about French Toast Pancakes? ;) I’d have to say Pancakes, since I eat them more often, but French Toast is SO good too! :D

xoxo

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) March 2, 2011 at 10:08 pm

Oh this is so ironic or I dont know what the word is…

I did the 30 day challenge and did about 7 days worth, not in order, just random. One of them that I did was the zodiac stuff.

And I am a gemini too (june 12)

I love reading about astrology, numerology, moon phases, all that ‘hippy dippy’ stuff…some things i put stock into, some things i dont. Some is just ‘entertainment” and food for thought. Fun to read tho!

Love the his and hers French Toast!

Tay March 2, 2011 at 10:37 pm

French toast all the way!!! Actually, that’s kind of a lie. I like french toast best at home. And pancakes best out. Weird. Anyways, it’s amazing with some syrup mixed into the batter as well.
As for astrology, I read it because it’s interesting. I like to believe it’s true. But I doubt it.

Erica March 2, 2011 at 10:55 pm

Now that is an awesome dinner! You know I love BFD….we have it about once a week. I usually do pancakes, but love french toast too. And you can’t go wrong with scrambled eggs or an egg bake. In terms of astrology….I agree- I think they make most of the descriptions pretty general so anyone can see them as applicable. However, I do think I’m a pretty spot on Virgo.

Runeatrepeat March 2, 2011 at 11:07 pm

I just now saw your protein cereal recipe! You rock.

Christin@purplebirdblog March 3, 2011 at 12:05 am

Pancakes!

I am totally a Taurus by description. I have a friend who is heavy into astrology (despite the fact that he is extremely knowledgeable and sane otherwise, which is why I found it odd in the first place), but he keeps my chart on file and he’s been able to predict some pretty accurate things about me based on what he reads. It’s creepy and neat and kinda fun, and since he does all the work I’m totally down to listen to him. :)

Eden March 3, 2011 at 12:46 am

My mom was a gemini, and she was actually a lot like you!
I’m a libra but I don’t analyze it too much. I just think its funny that scales are involved in my sign since I never step on one.

And PANCAKES! (PS, how confusing was yesterday being peanut butter AND pancake day!?)

MelissaNibbles March 3, 2011 at 2:36 am

Oh wow, I think I’m a Gemini more than a Sag. Except for the talking thing. I’m very quiet and always silently judging ;)
I always start things enthusiastically then get bored and stop. I’m terrible at follow through.

1970kikiproject March 3, 2011 at 4:20 am

french toast! and your mom’s recipe is the same that my mom used, when i was little…and we always had french toast for supper, never breakfast!
i’m a pretty true capricorn…i do like reading my horoscope and sometimes it’s scary how bang-on it applies to my day…but i would not “consult the stars” before making a big decision or anything…
way to go on doing your workout despite your long day – good for mind and body!

Kelly March 3, 2011 at 4:33 am

I am Aries and it definitely fits me although I am not a follower of signs. My husband is an Aries too and we are nothing alike with our personalities so not sure about all that. But hey….at the very least it is entertaining.

I would pick pancakes over french toast. Pancakes with butter only. The end.

Lauren March 3, 2011 at 4:40 am

Girl, you know how I feel about BFD. So strongly that we have it at least once a week! :) I’m so glad to see more people are jumping on this fantastic tradition. ;)

Pure2raw Twins March 3, 2011 at 4:54 am

Pancakes! YUM And I love Zuzana’s workout names, they all fit the workout perfectly ;)

Jen March 3, 2011 at 5:12 am

We LOVE breakfast for dinner, it’s the one meal my kids look forward to every week :) I used to hate french toast as a kid, but I have been loving it lately. The more cinnamon the better!

I don’t know anything about astrology, I don’t even know what my sign is.

Katie March 3, 2011 at 5:15 am

Love Breakfast for Dinner!

I have to say I love pancakes! I hardly ever eat french toast, I like it though, Im just a pancake girl at heart : )

Hope your week is great! xoxo

Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun March 3, 2011 at 5:31 am

Love BFD! And I keep hearing so many things about these bodyrock workouts. I need to look at them.

Faith March 3, 2011 at 6:01 am

Ah, french toast. I’ve only attempted it once and it was kind of a mess. How do you know when it’s done? Totally taking FT over pancakes, though…throw in some whipped cream and you’ve got yourself a deal!

Errign March 3, 2011 at 6:06 am

1. I am not too into astrology. When I answered this question during the challenge, I had to hit up google to find some characteristics of Cancers lol.
2. WAFFLES. But seriously, I like pancakes better than french toast, I think!

Heather March 3, 2011 at 6:08 am

i never really paid that close attention to astrology…and to be totally honest since my sign changed from libra to virgo i’m even more disinterested!

PANCAKES!!!!

withasideofhope March 3, 2011 at 6:15 am

I love breakfast for dinner! That is definitely my go-to meal when I can’t think of what I want for dinner or if I want something quick and easy!

I don’t pay too much attention to astrology. I like reading my horoscope. I think my sign, Aries, is true to a point. Oh, and I have to say that I am a bigger fan of pancakes! :)

Lindsey@ Textbooks and Cookbooks March 3, 2011 at 6:16 am

Pancakes! But I love french toast. :)

movesnmunchies March 3, 2011 at 6:23 am

PANCAKES! and i dont rly follow the astrology stuff but i do think its really fun!

Heather March 3, 2011 at 6:32 am

Breakfast is 100% my favorite meal of the day. We have BFD at least once a week, most weeks it’s twice! But hands down, I’ll always pick pancakes over french toast. :)

cardiopizza March 3, 2011 at 6:40 am

I think I’d go with pancakes…especially banana walnut pancakes with syrup. Yum!

I love astrology and find it so interesting! Gemini is a great sign too! :)

Sarah March 3, 2011 at 6:43 am

french toast all the way! and i know my sign, but that’s about it. i think it’s fun reading my horoscope sometimes and seeing if it “came true”, though!

Sarah March 3, 2011 at 6:45 am

FRENCH TOAST! I’m also a gemini, but thats about all I know… I never follow it or anything!

Haha always needs to be ketchup with eggs! I can’t eat them without it!

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine March 3, 2011 at 6:45 am

Pancakes! For some reason I always think of French Toast as being really sticky. I don’t like sticky things!

Kathie March 3, 2011 at 6:55 am

we have breakfast for dinner once a week. it’s a great way to stay w/i a grocery budget

Allison @ Food For Healing March 3, 2011 at 7:02 am

pancakes!

rebecca lustig March 3, 2011 at 7:23 am

I love making french toast– especially with waffles!

Sami March 3, 2011 at 7:40 am

that’s a neat challenge!

i’m a texture freak and LOVE the crisp outside and half baked inside of french toast :)

it’s been too long since i’ve had it!

xo

runyogarepeat March 3, 2011 at 8:13 am

Horoscopes are fun to read occasionally, and they always seem to apply because they are written in a vague, yet convincing manner.
French toast with pure maple syrup!

Ashley @ 365 things March 3, 2011 at 8:15 am

Pancakes all the way! Acutally…a buffet where I could have both would be nice. :)

I’m a Picses and think it’s pretty accurate for me….

McKenzie T March 3, 2011 at 8:32 am

I love, love, love breakfast for dinner. Or, as my husband and I stole from an episode of Scrubs “brinner”. Your meal looked fantastic; I have a feeling we’ll be making brinner very soon!!

Naomi(onefitfoodie) March 3, 2011 at 8:34 am

if I had to pick it would be pancakes!

Oh I love the bodyrock website! she is hot and her workouts are so fun and challengeing and best of all you can do them AT HOME!!!

She really has evolved to where she started her website is easy to follow and breaks it all down!

awesome job, I just watched her hot mess video and looks SO tough!!!

Dawn (HealthySDLiving) March 3, 2011 at 8:42 am

Brekfast for dinner is ALWAYS a good choice!

And ummmmmmm PANCAKES for sure!

Paige (Running Around Normal) March 3, 2011 at 8:50 am

We had breakfast for dinner last night too!! Pancakes and egg muffins:)

Nicole C March 3, 2011 at 9:23 am

I randomly read my astrology sign, Sagittarius. It fits me to a T with the love of travel. A while back when I was pondering leaving someone I really loved my sign said how I need to be on my own. Just weird things that we going on in my life being the talk in the stars world. Ironic.

I love french toast and after reading this in the morning it made me hungry. I add a bit of vanilla in the batter when I make it. Otherwise I make it the same way as you.

cbrady3 March 3, 2011 at 9:46 am

I am always surprised at how accurate the sign descriptions and horoscopes are!! I’m a Libra.

And I think I’m gonna go with pancakes…so many varieties and add ins!

Marissa March 3, 2011 at 10:48 am

I am a Gemini, too! I don’t really believe in astrology, but I am SUCH a Gemini. My husfriend is an Aries and while he is stubborn (aren’t most men?), he doesn’t really fit the other traits. The worst part about being a Gemini is the anxiety. I also get really bad anxiety for no reason. Eating well, exercising, and good sleep are the best remedies for anxiety (easier said than done!).

jules524 March 3, 2011 at 12:24 pm

french toast, forever and always.

i’m a gemini too!! i totally believe in astrology and pretty much all the gemini characteristics apply to me. i love novelty and unusual things, i’m witty, love talking, hate being bored, and my mood can change at the drop of a hat.

Carrie March 3, 2011 at 2:55 pm

I knew I liked you for a reason, my birthday is June 1st too! Completely different year, long, long ago. : )

BroccoliHut March 3, 2011 at 7:21 pm

Love the maple syrup action shot!
I’m gonna vote for French toast!

Julia March 3, 2011 at 9:52 pm

I’m not one for horoscopes – I used to read them in some of the magazines I got, but they never really interested me.

Breakfast food – that does interest me. Your french toast looks amazing. Powdered sugar is soo good on top :)

kissmybroccoli March 3, 2011 at 11:01 pm

I feel the same way as you when it comes to the zodiac signs. Some stuff I feel matches me perfectly while others seem so generic! I usually only read the horoscopes if I happen across them in a magazine.

Easy decision: PANCAKES!! Although, I am grateful for the ever quick lazy girl pancakes on busy mornings! I make my french toast the same way! Gotta love the cinnamon!
