the past 24 hours.

in meals,moves

hey guys!

it’s 11 PM on sunday night. lots has happened since last night at 11 PM. and you better believe i am going to ramble about it.

after my marathon cleaning sesh on saturday, i was on a mission.

i am sure several of you have seen ashley’s socca crackers which inspired mama pea’s cinnamon toast crunch recipe.  well, being the cereal monster that i am, i had to try out the recipe.

it is dangerous how easy it is to make cereal from scratch.

IMG_8834

it’s safe to say i ate all the crumbs from the pan..

IMG_8831

…along with almost a third of the cereal pieces before i even put them in the oven for the final crisp.

IMG_8835

this recipe was a breeze. the only problem i ran into was that i was out of milk. at 12:30 AM on a saturday night (sunday morning?), this is a problem.

well, unless you have a really good cookie recipe and a husband who wants you to make him cookies.

i struck a deal with marshall. if he went out to get me milk for my cereal, i would whip up a batch of fat, fluffy snickerdoodles. they were so good when i made them the other day and he was begging for more.

win-win situation, if you ask me.

IMG_8836

cereal from scratch is my new favorite thing. thank you, mama pea.

IMG_8838

i held up my end of the bargain and whipped up a batch of snickerdoodles for marshall.

our friend dave was over and dave likes cookies, too. however, dave is vegan. i couldn’t possibly leave him out of the delicious cookie extravaganza, so i decided to try making a vegan version of jessica’s recipe.

IMG_8845

can you tell which is which?

the non-vegan ones are on the left. they are slightly fluffier than the vegan ones on the right.. but not by much!

non-vegan:

IMG_8846

vegan:

IMG_8847

i was really impressed at how fluffy and chewy the vegan version turned out. for those who want to know, i followed the original  recipe exactly except i replaced the butter with earth balance, the egg with one ener-G egg replacer egg and the milk with almond milk. so simple!

and you can’t even tell the difference.

IMG_8849

i was up until 3 AM baking, eating cereal, eating cookies, drinking milk and hanging out with marshall & dave. i know, we are party ANIMALS.

sunday morning, marshall & i woke up bright and early around 10 AM and i had ONE thing on my mind…

IMG_8853[4]

cereal!

IMG_8851

because i didn’t have much of my homemade cereal left (clearly i have a problem with eating too much cereal at once) i decided to bulk it up with a banana and some kamut puffs.

IMG_8856

side note: kamut puffs are the jam! i love that they have ONE ingredient and taste just like unsweetened smacks. plus, because they only have 60 calories per 1 cup serving, i don’t feel bad about eating 3 cups in one sitting. yes, it’s happened. a lot.

IMG_8857

okay, i know the 18 photos of cereal is overkill. i am mainly just sad it is gone. you better believe i will be making another batch tomorrow.

this afternoon, marshall & i went to the mall so he could get some workout clothes. wait, what? oh yeah.. i forgot to tell you guys that my husband has turned over a new leaf and officially wants to work out with me every day. i have died and gone to heaven. it’s the best ever. i typically don’t like working out with people, but it’s really nice to have the extra motivation. plus, he’s cute.

we also hit up whole foods for lunch and barnes & noble where i bought a new cook book.. more on that later.

it was 3 o’clock by the time we got home, and our gym closes at 3 on sunday. lame. luckily, my parents have a gym at their house. we were conveniently going to their house for dinner, so we just went up there early for a workout.

the dogs came to watch.

iPhone 028

marshall did back & shoulders and i did cardio & abs. i ran 30 minutes of intervals on the treadmill for a total of 3.25 miles and then did various ab moves. penny & randy helped with my crunches.

iPhone 026iPhone 022

and penny attempted a treadmill session of her own.

iPhone 021

it was a fun family filled time at the gym.. to make it even more full of family fun, we watched family feud on TV while working out. weeeeee.

dinner was great. i feel like i hadn’t seen my family in ages! it was fun to catch up and eat delicious food together.

we had TWO kinds of minestrone soup~

IMG_8867

one with sausage on the left and one with ground turkey on the right. my mom is a babe and caters to my ground turkey lovin’ taste buds.

IMG_8872

there were rolls~

IMG_8875

and i made a salad filled with lettuce, garbanzos, kidney beans, black olives, pickled beets, cucumbers, shredded carrots & avocado.

IMG_8864IMG_8858

served with annie’s italian.. love this dressing!

IMG_8862

dinner time!

IMG_8880IMG_8877IMG_8878

this was delicious. glad i have leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

i wonder if he’s really my brother’s son? i mean, they look nothing alike.

IMG_8870

i wonder if she is related to them? ha.

IMG_8865

my nephews are only weeks apart, but look how much different in size they are!

IMG_8890

they are both such cuties.

IMG_8883

we also whipped up some ice cream for dessert.

IMG_8894IMG_8895

i didn’t eat ice cream though.. why? well, i had a snickerdoodle waiting at home for me, of course.

IMG_8898

and now it’s time for bed.

dang. i am long winded.

hope you guys had a great weekend!

Qs~

1. do you work out alone or with someone? who?

2. what is the last thing you made from scratch?

Marisa February 27, 2011 at 11:21 pm

I am glad you had a great birthday celebration for me! :) loved all the pix… especially Doug and Grey matching!

janetha February 27, 2011 at 11:25 pm

we even said it was in honor of your bday :) wish you guys were there.

Tasha - The Clean Eating Mama February 27, 2011 at 11:27 pm

Homemade cinnamon cereal… YES PLEASE!!!

I just made a big of soup today. I love cooking from scratch =)

paijery February 27, 2011 at 11:29 pm

I am such a cereal addict too! I can’t wait to make these!
Your nephews/niece are adorable!!
I work out alone! Unless I can convince the bf to go for a run with me…..which is almost never lol.
The last thing I made from scratch was crackers!

edenseats February 27, 2011 at 11:40 pm

A workout at momma B’s gym I think beats any gym, esp if they close at 3pm! yea, thats lame. Where are they rushing too? if anything they should open late.

I made my coconut sugar cookies from scratch last. I actually burned the first batch and I blame it on my iphone for being a major distraction!

janetha February 28, 2011 at 12:39 pm

SUCH a distraction!

rsmacaalay February 27, 2011 at 11:50 pm

Wow that soup really look nice and delicious!

Mama Pea February 27, 2011 at 11:55 pm

I kind of think making cereal is becoming a daily thing for me, like brushing my teeth or taking a shower. Or just like brushing my teeth.

janetha February 28, 2011 at 12:38 pm

pretty soon you will always have your mouth full of cereal all the time and you won’t be able to fit a toothbrush in there.

actorsdiet February 27, 2011 at 11:59 pm

cereal from scratch – WOW. i just made homemade protein bars with my cousins today. well, i watched him and instructed.

MelissaNibbles February 28, 2011 at 2:31 am

Your nephew is adorable.

Liz @ Blog is the New Black February 28, 2011 at 3:31 am

All your eats look TDF! Yum. And those babies? Wow, one good looking family lady J!

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) February 28, 2011 at 3:51 am

the last thing i made from scratch…dinner. vegan sloppy joes. and before that no bake oatmeal raisin carrot cake bites. I cook from scratch every day. Unless i have planned leftovers. Then i get a day off :)

I love that you arent vegan (and you could have totally lied to your friend…not that you ever would) and said oh yeah, the cookies are vegan. But you went to the extra work of making him vegan cookies. WOW!! That is amazing. And good to hear the swaps worked out perfectly. I find that in most applications, they do. Sometimes eggs/egg replacers can be a little trick but usually butter/marg and milk/nutmilk is not ever an issue.

Could you come bake me vegan cookies? :)

1970kikiproject February 28, 2011 at 4:19 am

what fun times!!! man, your cereal raves do not help me!!! hello, fellow cereal LOVER/ADDICT! have never tried my own…now i am intrigued!
i don’t mind having others around when i work out, but i don’t want to talk. working out, i want my ipod on, and to be in my zone. normally i am very social and love to talk…but not while working out (running is different – then i don’t mind talking + running).
i made a cake from scratch sunday eve while watching the oscars – need it for my cake class this week. turned out great!
have a great monday, janetha! so glad you had fun at your parents – your family looks like a bunch of wonderful people!

Jessica @ How Sweet February 28, 2011 at 4:31 am

Very cool that you were able to turn them vegan!

Lauren February 28, 2011 at 4:42 am

You had quite the homemaker weekend!! :) The cookies look awesome but those crackers sound delicious. And I love the way you think by eating them with milk. It’s like my favorite cereal (Cinnamon Toast Crunch) healthified. ;)

Have a great Monday sweetie!

lindsay February 28, 2011 at 4:54 am

oh so dang cute. Love the nephew pictures. And cereal pictures are never an overkill, especially if its homemade cereal!

Erika February 28, 2011 at 5:16 am

Sounds like a great day with the family!
I can’t believe I missed Mama Pea’s cereal post…I must find it! Cinnamon Toast Crunch is my favorite sugar-laden cereal! YUM! :]

Erica February 28, 2011 at 5:21 am

That cereal really does sound like the jam! How delicious! And I love quakers puff cereal too (both the rice and the wheat). They’re awesome in smoothies /protein shakes. What a fun dinner at your mama’s! Your niece and nephews are ADORABLE! And that soup looks super yummy!

I made pumpkin bars from scratch yesterday. Josh recently decided he actually likes pumpkin! I was so excited. I like working out in a group setting when I teach class, but running I like to do alone :)

Marisa @ Loser for Life February 28, 2011 at 5:39 am

I gotta try those cracker/cereal things! Been seeing them everywhere and they look awesome!

LOL @ Penny on the treadmill. I kinda look just like that when I’m on it, too :)

Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun February 28, 2011 at 5:39 am

I love to workout ALONE with the exception of classes.

Um, you were on quite the cooking spree. A delicious one at that.

And what cuties!!!!

biteandtaste February 28, 2011 at 5:49 am

MMM…I love cereal, I’ve got to try that recipe!
I like to workout alone. It’s my sacred time of aloneness and I treasure that.

Lee February 28, 2011 at 6:00 am

This is the second blog in a row that I’ve read that has that cereal. I need to try it! The last thing I made from scratch was soup. It wasn’t that good. I just threw a bunch of random things into a pot and hoped for the best. I didn’t get the best. Oh well.

Can I ask you a favor? Would you mind updating my blog URL on your blog roll to inmytummy.com instead of inmytummy.wordpress.com? Thanks girl.

janetha February 28, 2011 at 12:38 pm

done! thanks for the reminder, i meant to the other day when you posted about it!

kristine February 28, 2011 at 6:10 am

i adore your mom. and i’m so impressed that you passed up ice cream for a cookie. i would have had ice cream and then gone home and had two cookies. :)

Kristin (Cook, Bake, Nibble) February 28, 2011 at 6:37 am

Man, I really need to make those crackers. They look so good!!

I usually work out solo (I like running alone for the most part) but lately I’ve been doing lots of hot yoga and Nick has been tagging along! I’ve liked doing yoga together :)

I made two types of hummus from scratch yesterday, so much better than packaged!!

xo

lowandbhold February 28, 2011 at 7:00 am

That is a fun-filled 24 hours for certain! Lovin the cereal!

I work out alone most of the time, unless I’m taking Body Pump or running with a buddy.

Katie February 28, 2011 at 7:05 am

I love all the family time! Yipee!!

I workout alone during the week, but occasionally the Mr. and will work out together on the weekends when our schedules are a little bit more free. Hooray for Marshall working out with you…good for him!

I made brownies from scratch yesterday….mmm, mmm.

Ashley L February 28, 2011 at 7:13 am

I wish I had someone to work out with. Probably wouldn’t be so hard to motivate myself.

Allison @ Food For Healing February 28, 2011 at 7:17 am

so many yummy things!

i work out alone, i try to go to fitness classes as much as possible, but im still alone.
last thing from scratch.. hm, woulda been refried beans and hummus.

Michelle February 28, 2011 at 7:42 am

Oh I’m definitely going to try making some cereal from scratch. It looks so good!

The last thing I made from scratch was chocolate chip cookies. They were amazing but didn’t last long! Oh well, I guess that means I’ll have to get back into the kitchen sometime soon. What a shame!

K is for Karma February 28, 2011 at 7:43 am

Look at you go — that’s one heck of Sunday (and weekend!) everything looks so yummy! Here’s to a fabulous week! xoxo

Kristen February 28, 2011 at 8:20 am

I LOVE cereal! I can eat it and eat it and eat it…this is why it is so very dangerous for me to have it in my crib.

If I’m taking a group fitness class, I love to workout with someone. My favorite person is my mom. She is awesome and fun. If I’m lifting or working up a sweat on the step mill I like to tune in and zone out. It makes the time go by much faster if I can get some good tunes and lose myself in them.

I made a vanilla beanfunfetti cake this weekend from scratch, with vanilla bean buttercream frosting (topped with sprinkles of course!). Recipe adapted from Miss Jenna at eat, live, run. It turned out great, but was more like a pound cake. I had to make sure that NONE of it came home with me. It was such a bittersweet goodbye :)

i love this post! my current BF and i would go to the gym together when i still worked out at the gym.. actually when we were friends at first we would go every day together. its so nice sharing the same passion for working out! he gives me workout tips, i feel him well :) im definitely making the homemade cereal soon.. and i love the puff cereals- currently loving the puffed millet and brown rice cereal, with cinnamon, almonds, frozen blueberries and almond milk! the best!

Alyssa February 28, 2011 at 8:54 am

Cute kids!!!!!
And I love it when the pets lend their personal training skills to a workout, lol! (My dog does the same.)

Kelsey @ Clean Teen Kelsey February 28, 2011 at 8:54 am

I love this post! I so want to make my own cereal now–that recipe looks amazing!

Rachel (Olalliberry) February 28, 2011 at 9:10 am

I really need to make that cereal! I made some almond butter cookies this weekend, but snickerdoodles are a childhood favorite of mine!

I work out alone, at the small fitness center in my office building. I see a lot of the same people there when I go, and we chat and say hi, but when I do my workouts I am focused on myself!

Jess February 28, 2011 at 9:46 am

i love that little baby boy- he looks so grown up for some reason!

todayilovemylife February 28, 2011 at 9:49 am

mmmm….soup! I am obsessed lately, with soup, and that looks delicious. Along with everything else on your blog this weekend. ;) xoxo

Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices February 28, 2011 at 10:04 am

WHOA- your parents have a AWESOME gym!!!!!!!!!
I’ve seen pictures of it on here before, but never realized how big it is & how many machines they have- that ROCKS! :)
Do you think maybe, just maybe you could get your Mom to share the turkey minestrone soup recipe? That is my favorite :) & it looks like it’s in a crock pot, which makes it even better!!

janetha February 28, 2011 at 12:36 pm

i’ll see if i can get it from her! i think it is different every time, but i will make her write it down :)

rovergar March 1, 2011 at 6:26 am

Turkey Minestrone recipe. Yes Please!!

Stephanie February 28, 2011 at 10:30 am

It seems somewhat taboo in the blogosphere to love babies with the verocity that I do…but every time there are babies in a post I get squealy. What adorable nephews you have!!!!

I went to the mall to buy Ryan workout pants this weekend too! I love working out with him (but not running…I’m a whole foot shorter than him and it’s apparent in our differences in speed…lol).

Patricia Braithwaite February 28, 2011 at 10:31 am

I made those delicious snickerdoodles on Saturday and WOW are they good! They are my absolute favorite cookie now. I think I might have to make some more. Thanks for sharing.

Sable February 28, 2011 at 10:38 am

Oh my gosh. Homemade cereal?! Why did I never know this was possible before??!! I am GOING to sneak out of work 5 hours early to go home and make this. Think anyone will notice?

janetha February 28, 2011 at 12:36 pm

your secret is safe with me. just get a blow up doll to put in your place!

Kathie February 28, 2011 at 10:43 am

OMG! LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE snickerdoodles!! A total weakness of mine

cbrady3 February 28, 2011 at 10:44 am

ahh I ran out of cereal instead of milk on my late night cereal binge Saturday! It’s the worst…and I don’t have a cute hubby to go to the store for me:(

Teri [a foodie stays fit] February 28, 2011 at 10:48 am

hahaha! that pic of your bro and his babe is priceless. IDENTICAL. and your niece is seriously beautiful.

I almost always work out with others: Body Pump with a whole bunch of gym members (and sometimes I plan to go with friends), teaching cycle with my attendees (obviously) and running on the weekends with a couple friends. Rarely do I work out with Rob because um, yeah, he rarely works out. :)

I still want a snickerdoodle! Last from scratch thing I made: black bean and chicken soup. Yum.

Freckled Foodie February 28, 2011 at 11:08 am

i SWEAR, you have esp or something. i just had a craving for plain old cereal, almond breeze, and banana this morning. no joke. granted, it wasn’t as cool as yours because mine wasn’t homemade, but you get the jist!

xo.

Katie February 28, 2011 at 11:24 am

omg I need to find that annies dressing!!!!!!!!! It sounds amazing!

Love the cute dog pics! So sweet, little gym buddies!!!

Ok I seriously want to make mama peas cereal yum too, I saw it before I went away, its on my to make and devour list ; ) you know we all have those kind of lists!

Love you! I have a feeling you will want ice cream this week : )

kristastes February 28, 2011 at 11:35 am

Ahhh I love your parents’ home gym! So fab! The pups are too cute…what is it with dogs and loving yoga mats?? I made homemade venison chili for a chili cook-off yumyum..I just bought a crockpot and I have a feeling it is going to get a lot of use.

Rose February 28, 2011 at 12:00 pm

I strength train with a trainer, so I’m never alone in that regard, but I do my best runs solo. I’ve tried scheduling important runs with other people, but my friends flake out ALL THE TIME.

I do love running with my brother, though. He’s hilarious, and makes the run go by so much faster. But he will only do trail runs with me, so I’ve been waiting for daylight saving time so we can hit up trails together after work.

Christin@purplebirdblog February 28, 2011 at 12:08 pm

I love when the dogs help me out with my yoga with face kisses. Or Rambo will lick my feet. Combo bath/workout… quite the timesaver!

Maren February 28, 2011 at 12:30 pm

WOW!! Busy weekend!! I usually work out alone, but my boyfriend just got his gym membership back, so he will be coming with me sometimes, too. We never do the same thing, though, so I consider myself alone :) I made two batches of chocolate pumpkin protein bars yesterday from scratch. They are sooo delish!!!

janetha February 28, 2011 at 12:38 pm

ooo.. recipe please?

Salah February 28, 2011 at 1:36 pm

omg that mama pea recipe looks awesome! I Have to try it!!!

Sheema February 28, 2011 at 3:20 pm

You should try making snickerdoodle ice cream…or even cinnamon toast crunch icecream! Then you could have both…

Also I hope you didn’t forget about the 30 day challenge!
