just the facts.

in meals,moves

WOW. thank you for the feedback, comments, stories and kind words on my last post about suicide. you guys are amazing! really great stuff. i wish i had time to reply to you all individually. unfortunately, that would take years, so how about a group hug?

that was great.

day six of my little 30 day challenge says to list 30 interesting facts about yourself.

well, rattling off facts about myself i can definitely do. but interesting? hmm.. i am not making any promises.

here we go!

fact 1: i have started eating breakfast at home every morning instead of at work.

IMG_8189

two slices of french meadow women’s bread, toasted and topped with organic peanut butter, plus scrambled eggs (1 whole egg+2 whites)

it is a lot nicer. i read my latest issue of real simple while i eat and it is such a nice way to start the day.

fact 2: i have been waking up without pressing snooze for an hour!

that is why i have been able to implement fact #1!

fact 3: i was born on a wednesday. this year, my birthday is on a wednesday.

which means that this year, if you were born in 1983, your birthday is on the same day of the week that you were born. unless you were born on leap day.. i don’t know how all that garbage works.

fact 4: i am leaving town straight from work tomorrow and i haven’t started packing yet.

blogging is a good way to procrastinate.

fact 5: my favorite number is 22.

has been since jr. high. not sure why.

fact 6: i could (and usually do) eat leftovers every day.

IMG_8195

pasta with chicken, roasted grape tomatoes & caramelized onion basil sauce (recipe coming soon) + broccoli.

fact 7: i have two older sisters and one older brother.

which makes me the youngest in my fam.

fact 8: i love all fruit, but there is nothing better than a super ripe, fresh peach when it is in season.

that is my very favorite fruit. ever.

fact 9: my middle name is ann.

seems to be quite the popular middle name.

fact 10: i have been eating absurd amounts of bananas lately.

IMG_8197

today i had my banana in sandwich form, the nut butter you see is mighty maple by PB & Co.

fact 11: mighty maple by PB & Co is my favorite peanut butter.

fact 12: justin’s maple almond butter is my favorite almond butter.

fact 13: although i love maple nut butters, my favorite flavor is actually vanilla bean.

fact 14: i crack any and all possible parts of my body, from my fingers to my toes to my back to my neck to my elbows and everywhere in between.

this drives my boss crazy, but i am addicted. oh, and for the record, when i go on a popping spree, i count how many pops there are. and it always has to be an even number. i am crazy!

fact 15: i count my steps when i go up or down stairs.

i told you, i am crazy!

fact 16: my mom is the BEST EVER!!!!!

IMG_8198

she sent valentines to me, marshall, penny & randy. we each got 5 bucks. even the dogs. i told marshall that penny and randy get to spend theirs on whatever they want and that he didn’t get to spend it!

fact 17: my hamstrings are so sore.

thanks a lot, jackie warner.

fact 18: i graduated from high school ON my 18th birthday.

that was pretty neat.

fact 19: i changed the order of my facts so that 18th birthday one fell on fact 18.

i told you, i am crazy!

fact 20: i subscribe to six magazines.

oxygen, cooking light, self, shape, women’s health and real simple. this new issue of oxygen came just in time for the plane ride!

fact 21: i had braces, only on top, for 5 years.

it was crappy at the time but now that i have a nice smile, i am glad i went through that.

fact 22: 22 is my favorite number!

oh wait.. i already said that.

fact 23: deb is my secret valentine.

IMG_8209

guess what she sent me?!

IMG_8214

mini chocolate protein muffins! gah. love her.

fact 24:

fact 25: i have started doing the bodyrock.tv workouts!

image

for the past two days. i did this workout yesterday and this one today. they are quick, efficient and fun. plus, zuzana is smokin’ and ripped—super encouraging!

fact 26: cottage cheese will ALWAYS be a savory food for me.. NEVER sweet.

IMG_8205

post workout snack!

IMG_8203

fact 27: i hate wearing the color red and can’t think of one thing i own that is red.

fact 28: my biggest/worst fault is procrastination.

still haven’t started packing.. it is 11:02 PM..

fact 29: i am going to chicago for my very first time EVER.. tomorrow! with kristen.

i can’t wait!

fact 30: i sure am going to miss these three nuggets while i am gone!

IMG_8216IMG_8218IMG_8229

i probably will be scarce for the next five days.. but i will try to post!

Qs~

1. tell me a fact about yourself. anything goes!

2. selfish question for me: what is fun to do/not to be missed/must be eaten in chicago? i would love suggestions on where to go, what to do, what is fun during the day, fun at night, great places to shop, cool museums, delicious restaurants.. you name it. i want to know.

xo. janetha g.

maria @ Chasing the Now February 16, 2011 at 11:14 pm

I’m a pretty awful procrastinator too.

I have to set the TV volume on a level that ends with a 5 or a 0. Always. I don’t know why.

Christin@purplebirdblog February 16, 2011 at 11:14 pm

I made dill pickle dip tonight. It’s delicious. (I typed dick pickle at first… it’s late.)

Christin@purplebirdblog February 16, 2011 at 11:14 pm

Oh, and have a super blast in Chicago! xo

edenseats February 16, 2011 at 11:16 pm

I ve been blessed to have graced by deb’s valentine’s too! Aren’t those moist!?
Like I said on facebook, hit up frontera!
have a blast!

Marisa February 16, 2011 at 11:27 pm

Actually, I was born on a Wednesday and my birthday is on Saturday and I wasn’t born on a leap year. Maybe it is only for people born in 83 or certain years that will experience that this year. Mom’s is on a Tuesday this year and she was born on a Saturday. I am sitting on the couch across from mom reading this while she reads it on her device and I looked at her and said, “you sent valentines to the pups?!” So funny!

momma b February 16, 2011 at 11:34 pm

Ok you’re holding out on me with another new workout partner!

I’m a counter of lots and lots if things…..a lot of us in our family have this disease…but you already knew that.

Be careful, have fun, hug Danny for me! xo

p.s. hope the dogs don’t blow their money in wendover!!

Sara February 17, 2011 at 12:42 am

Go to one of Rick bayless’ restaurants! He makes his own chocolate for the choco milk at xoco, yum! Also hit up an Argo tea if you want yummy tea. And you should probably eat a sausage for good measure hahaha

Sara February 17, 2011 at 12:43 am

Whoops I meant hot chocolate! Hah

Laura (starloz) February 17, 2011 at 12:48 am

That’s so cool that you graduated high school on your 18th b-day! What a great party that must have been.

Hmmm, one fact about me…..I can’t eat the ends of banana’s. Never. I always cut them off and throw them away. Weird I know.

Happy almost Friday!!

Vanessa February 17, 2011 at 4:48 pm

So do I!! I hate the ends!! :-)

Erica February 17, 2011 at 4:44 am

Have fun in Chicago!!!! I liked this post- lots of fun stuff! Eating breakfast at home really changes the way your day starts! Makes you feel less go go go. My favorite number is 2 and I am also the youngest. That last picture is priceless. Gosh, I love puppers.

1. tell me a fact about yourself. anything goes! I don’t think I’ve ever changed a diaper :)

2. selfish question for me: what is fun to do/not to be missed/must be eaten in chicago? I traveled to chicago for work for a few months, but we never really got out to do anything fun :( I know there is a Weber grill restaurant where they cook all of your food on giant versions of weber grills.

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate February 17, 2011 at 4:48 am

I love cottage cheese too! Most people think it is gross ;)

movesnmunchies February 17, 2011 at 5:51 am

lindsay February 17, 2011 at 5:53 am

i was born in 1983, score! What an awesome fact. My favorite number is 11,then 22! Maybe its a 1983 baby thing?
BodyRock workouts are amazing! Awesome results too.

Last year mama B was my secret valentine (you were mexico and she sent me the package). Therefore, I love her and miss her! hehe.

Cheers!

withasideofhope February 17, 2011 at 5:55 am

Have fun in Chicago! I’ve always wanted to go there! I can’t wait to see your pictures and all of the places you went to! :) Random fact about me: I eat a banana every single morning with breakfast. I can’t go without having at least one a day.

Heather February 17, 2011 at 6:07 am

i always use this…and probably put it on here before…but i have my eyeliner tattooed on. i would recommend it to anyone!

inmytummy February 17, 2011 at 6:07 am

I don’t like to sleep with a top sheet. It drives Jason nuts!

janetha February 17, 2011 at 9:44 am

Oh I do NOT do sheets! Luckily Marshall doesn’t, either!

Kristin (Cook, Bake, Nibble) February 17, 2011 at 6:27 am

My favorite number is 22 as well! But I think I already told you that :D

AND I also love leftovers. Aside from eating out, I don’t think there is a better lunch!!

I have never been to chicago. However it is the husband’s fave city and he says deep dish pizza is not to miss! HAVE FUN!!!

xoxo

Tamara February 17, 2011 at 6:58 am

Like Kristin, I too share your favorite number… and I’m pretty sure I already told you as well, when I mentioned I got married on 10-22-10! I don’t know when it started being my favorite, but I’m pretty sure it was when I *was* 22.

I always tell people that I like 2 but 22 is two 2s so it’s even better! ;D

carolinebee February 17, 2011 at 6:33 am

FIRST THINGS FIRST!! You MUUSTTTT GO t!!o the Chicago Diner!!!! It is the sickest, most amazing, vegetarian diner restaurant, and they have the randomest stuff from veggie burgers, to a Veggie Reuben, ahhhhh love it!

Second, are u OCD?? ;D Anndd lastly, i had braces for 7 years- sooo awful, i had the 4 on top for the first few years, what a goober hah! Have fun girl, GO to the Chicago diner!! :D

Heather February 17, 2011 at 6:36 am

My favorite number is 7 and I was born on the 7th of December! And Justin’s Maple is the bomb diggity!

You have to have an original Chicago deep dish pizza and take plenty of pics for me to drool over! ;)

Have a great time!!

atastelife February 17, 2011 at 6:38 am

dip dish chicago style pizza.
do it.
maybe twice.

Heather (Where's the Beach) February 17, 2011 at 6:43 am

Oh have fun in Chicago. I’ve been once and loved it. Hit up the original Uno and have a martini in the Hancock Tower!

Gabriela February 17, 2011 at 7:14 am

Have an amazing time in Chicago!! I was there in August but was lame and didn’t get to try the pizza, so have some for me :)

Fact: I was born on Superbowl Sunday!

Kristen February 17, 2011 at 7:16 am

I lived in Chicago, and now Indianapolis and so I visit with my boyfriend at LEAST once a month.
You should have some incredible grub at the Bongo Room. NOM. It is a brunch/breakfast place. THEN you should check out Black Dog Gelato ( I know how you love ice cream!!). They have flavors like Goat Cheese Caramel Cashew. I got Salty Peanut and Chocolate when I went. It is a great neighborhood, lots of cool shopping.

Have so much fun. I just went about two weeks ago and am dying that I won’t be back until March.

Kelly February 17, 2011 at 8:09 am

I just wanted to say that I am insanely jealous you live in Indy as I have the world’s largest crush on Peyton Manning…swoon!

Kristen February 18, 2011 at 9:08 am

He *is* a cutie!! I am fortunate that when he first came here, he frequented the restaurant that I waited tables at, and I got to wait on him several times. I’m embarrassed to say that the first time I didn’t know who he was…but in my defense, he had *just* moved here.

:)

dana @ my little celebration February 17, 2011 at 7:33 am

Factoid: I didn’t know what a birthday was until I was in second grade. I thought it was “bertday” and you got to pick a new date every year. Wow, you’d think I was mentally challenged or something.

Have fun in Chicago!

Ryann February 17, 2011 at 7:37 am

Yay I’m from Chicago and there are so many things to see, its hard to list them all. Here are some of my personal recommendations:

-Macy’s on State Street (the old Marshall Fields with the world famous Walnut Room), it really is a must-see for any first timer to Chicago
-Visit to Lincoln Park/Wicker Park neighborhoods, which have amazing boutiques, parks, non-chain restaurants, beautiful houses, etc.
-A walk on the lakefront, if weather permits
-Museums!!
-Shopping on the Mag Mile and Watertower
-Chicago Pizza!!! (love Edwardo’s, Connie’s in particular)

Holly February 18, 2011 at 10:27 pm

LOVE CHICAGO!!!

Yes, do take a walk around Lincoln Park/ Wicker Park.

If you go to the Nordstorm on Magnificent Mile, two chocolate shops: Ethel’s Lounge and Vosges Chocolate.

I think, I can’t remember, do you like hats? Well if you happen to be in Bucktown or Lakeview, there is a really cool hat store: Goorin Bros.

Sorry my post is so random. If you want a great unique restaurants, well there are many in the city of Chicago. One restaurant I like is the Publican – delicious!

You’re going to love it there! Such a beautiful, wonderful city!

Allison February 17, 2011 at 7:46 am

Visit the Bongo Room for breakfast in Wicker Park – it will blow your mind!!

runyogarepeat February 17, 2011 at 8:04 am

Have fun in Chicago! I’ve never been, but I’m thinking about doing the Chicago marathon.
I love maple-flavored PBs, but nothing beats real maple syrup, especially free or very cheap maple syrup from my aunt & uncle who make it.

Kelly February 17, 2011 at 8:08 am

Haha…good facts! Here’s an interesting one about me…my newest claim to fame is chopping my pinky finger 90% off and having to go through reconstructive surgery to have it reattached. It will never work right.

Maren February 17, 2011 at 8:16 am

Never been to Chicago, but I have heard all about the H&M and it’s glorious 3 stories!!! Love that store. Have fun!!!

Jessy (squeezetheday) February 17, 2011 at 8:19 am

I saw your comment at bodyrock.tv yesterday and I got excited to see someone else from the blogging community over there! :)

Cottage cheese is definitely a salty food for me, too. I actually hadn’t even thought of the possibility of eating it with something sweet until I saw a blog post with cottage cheese with fruit and jam.

Katy (The Singing Runner) February 17, 2011 at 8:23 am

23 is my lucky number!

I LOVE Chicago! I went last summer and I will be going there in October to run the Chicago Marathon (my 1st marathon!) Make sure you go to Millenium Park! SO much fun! :D

Ashley February 17, 2011 at 8:26 am

I could roller skate when I was 18 months… so random right? I haven’t been on skates in years though.

I already gave you my recommendations for Chicago—-have so much fun doll! Seriously…Violet Hour… check it out. There is one light bulb on the outside of the building and a man in a black suit outside to take your name. Kind of mysterious… but it totally rocks!

Jessica February 17, 2011 at 8:27 am

Is it weird that I find that chick’s accent on BodyRockTV to be uber sexy? I wish I had an accent like that! Not to mention those abs. Sheesh.

Aimee February 17, 2011 at 8:31 am

If I were to go to Chicago, I’d try Chicago style pizza from a local (not chain) place – you know, to be able to put your two cents in on Chicago vs New York style pizza if it ever came up in a conversation. Of course you’d have to go to New York too.

Krystina (Organically Me) February 17, 2011 at 8:39 am

Marshall is a babe.

Random fact? I’m fluent in Italian!

lowandbhold February 17, 2011 at 8:48 am

I wish I could start waking up sans snooze. It would be so nice!

I’m sad that you don’t like red. It’s my favorite!

Susan February 17, 2011 at 8:54 am

I am SO proud that you cut back on snoozing AND started eating breakfast at home!! A few quiet moments to eat in the morning makes the day so much better.

There this Intelligentsia coffee shop by the bean that I really wanted to go to when I was there but didn’t make it. You should try it out – it’s supposed to be really good!

Allison February 17, 2011 at 3:17 pm

As a Chicagoan I can attest to the fact that Intelligensia rocks! You just can’t beat the aroma and taste of their coffee! I told my dad, a coffee snob, to try it and now he will order nothing else!

a taste of health with balance February 17, 2011 at 9:18 am

i’ve been eating a ton of bananas too. addictive. i love the body rock site! those workouts are sweeet and so effective. fact: i want those mini chocolate protein muffins.

Vicky February 17, 2011 at 9:34 am

Born and raised in Chicago/Chicagoland!

I definitely second the Violet Hour. It is unlike anywhere I have ever been-totally unique and memorable. For deep dish, my favorite is Lou Malanti’s and you positively have to go to Portillos. It is a Chicago staple and an absolute must (their hot dogs and Italian beefs are life changing). Xoco is fun and if you are a Rick Bayless fan, then I would definitely consider going. West Town Tavern is a nicer upscale restaurant with a great menu and amazing food (definitely call ahead and make reservations though). Finally, Big Star, which is actually near Violet Hour, is an amazing tacqueria and tequilla bar.

As for stuff to do, the Chicago Art Institute is a really great museum. I can easily spend a whole day there. The shopping on Michigan Ave and State St. can be fun as well. Personally, I would skip Navy Pier. I lot of tourists go there and there really isn’t anything special. Also, I lot of tourists love Millenium Park but I get bored after 20 minutes, so maybe keep that in mind as well.

I hope you have a great time in Chicago-it really is an amazing city. <3

Megan February 17, 2011 at 9:44 am

We are going to Chicago this weekend too! I grew up in Northern IL but have lived in AZ for 10 years now… sad :( My husband has never been, so he is super excited.

You MUST go up in the Sears Tower (now called Willis Tower… blah).
You MUST eat Chicago Style Pizza. My favorite place is Lou Malnati’s, but Gino’s East is super good too.
You MUST go to the Water Tower Place, and to the lobby of the Ritz Carlton (located at the top of Water Tower Place).
You MUST go to Navy Pier/Millenium Park – even though it will be freezing cold.
You MUST go to Michigan Ave, even if you don’t buy anything
You MUST go to the Macy’s on State Street (used to be Marshall Field’s, and always will be Marshall Field’s to me).

There are so many other things to do… The Art Institute, John Hancock (you can eat lunch on the 95th floor… pretty amazing), Museum of Science and Industry (my favorite museum by FAR), the Chicago Theatre, etc. etc. etc. I could go on and on :)

Allison February 17, 2011 at 3:14 pm

I agree! The Museum of Science & Industry is the best!

Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather February 17, 2011 at 9:48 am

I love the bodyrock workouts! I even got my hubs to do them with me, it’s so much fun :)

Stephanie February 17, 2011 at 10:34 am

I graduated on my birthday too!

Ashley February 17, 2011 at 10:36 am

I always read about how much you love Mighty Maple and I am a HUGE fan of PB&Co but have YET to find that flavor in any store. I have seen every single one except that :-( I love reading about your love for your hubby and animals. I’m the same way…they are my whole heart! Have an awesome trip, gal!

Rose February 17, 2011 at 10:57 am

6. I love leftovers. When I was on the dairy train I was of the firm belief that cold day old pizza tasted better than hot fresh pizza. Pretty much every day for lunch I eat leftovers of the previous night’s dinner.

14. My neck cracks super loud, and pretty often, which freaks out everyone around me. But it feels so gooooooooood.

16. Your mom IS awesome!

Freckled Foodie February 17, 2011 at 11:03 am

i’m leaving for WV tomorrow straight from work! :) have a safe trip!

xo.

Allison W February 17, 2011 at 11:34 am

I’d definitely recommend walking around the Bucktown/Wicker Park area for shopping. It seems like your style. You could start at the “6 corners” intersection and walk south on Damen or Milwaukee for lots of shopping, or go north on Damen for more high end stores. There’s also a ton of great restaurants and bars around there. As some of the other girls mentioned, Violet Hour is a cool bar. Jane’s on Cortland in Bucktown is a great brunch spot, as are Hot Chocolate and Feast, both located on Damen. I went to Navy Pier last weekend because my boyfriend’s sister was visiting from NY, but its pretty dead around there in the winter. Millenium Park is probably worth the walk if you’re feeling up for it. If you want to see a comedy show, Second City or Zanies can be fun, depending on the show/comedian. If you go shopping on Michigan Ave, the Purple Pig has a great wine list and apps. Trump Tower has fantastic views, although the drinks are ridiculously expensive. As for deep dish, my vote goes to Lou Malnati’s!
