hi guys! thanks for all the nice comments about my wedding photos. i like them, too.
my mister asked me out on a date tonight. just the two of us. what a romantic guy. i happily accepted his invitation and used it as an excuse to skip my workout.
we started things off at the wild grape, which is located downtown SLC on south temple and E street—right next to that einstein’s.
guess who is a chef at the wild grape?
drew! you guys might remember him.. i lived at his house for about nine months before i got married. he was a fabulous roomie and i miss him dearly. the cool part about the wild grape is there are a few bar seats that overlook the kitchen, so we got to see drew and the other chefs in action!
we started with a loaf of warm, crusty sourdough bread that came with herbed butter. drew also threw a plate of mushroom risotto croquettes in front of us.
they came on a bed of pureed parsnips and a bit of arugula. the mushroom lover in me devoured them immediately. they were delicious.
i had an arugula salad, which consisted of arugula, salt roasted pear, blue cheese, hazelnuts and a vinaigrette.
for my entrée, i ordered the niman ranch organic chicken, which was stuffed with pancetta and ricotta and served over a bed of cheesy polenta and doused in natural jus. there were also a couple of honey glazed carrots atop the chicken.
this was amazing! the pancetta added a nice, salty touch to the center of the chicken. it was perfectly seasoned, as well. i need to try to re-create this one at home.
i really loved the sweet carrots paired with the savory polenta.
even though we were incredibly full after finishing our entrees, drew insisted we try the pt. reyes blue cheesecake for dessert.
yes, i said blue cheesecake. it had just a touch of blue cheese in the filling—not too much to be overpowering, but just enough to get that sharp edge that comes from blue cheese. a bit of lemon zest balanced out the cheesecake which was served with blackberries, mint and a pomegranate sauce. delicious.
it was an awesome dinner and i highly recommend the wild grape! i had previously only eaten there for brunch and that was incredible.. now that i have tried their dinner, i can say that this restaurant is easily one of my favorites in the valley.
after dinner, we headed to the theater to check out a flick.
true grit. we LOVED it. i thought it was the perfect balance of humor and heartfeltness. yes, i just made that word up. two thumbs up from me and the mister! well, i guess that would be four thumbs, wouldn’t it? and if penny and randy were rating it, they would have to give it two paws up, since they don’t have the ever so useful opposable thumb. then again, the pups didn’t actually see the movie. they don’t allow dogs at the theater, you guys. come on.
clearly i need to get some sleep…

I really want to see true grit! I love me some matt damon! I havent seen a movie in a theater in a while…I think the last movie I saw was “The Kids Are Alright” which was fabulous! I really want to see 127 days and Black Swan though!
Last meal at a restaurant was for my dad’s birthday! i had ahi tuna tartare with potato chips and a shrimp and avocado salad.
ooo it was between true grit and 127 hrs. that one is next on the list. we saw black swan. gnarrrrly! i will go on a date with you! we can hold hands.
I finally saw The Social Network last night; what drama behind the creation of Facebook! And my last dinner out was at Cracker Barrel while driving through Nebraska. Never ever again!
last movie i saw in a theater…5 yrs ago. I was pregnant with morning sickness and went to the movies SOLELY b.c they had a/c and my house didnt. I puked most of the movie, i dont remember what I saw. But i was cool and not hot :) That was my last theater experience…and yes, i havent seen any movies in 5 yrs.
But hey…i read lots of blogs. lol

I also loved True Grit! So good! I just walked in the door from seeing Kings Speech. Also, really, really good! And every Friday I eat at Chick-fil-A, so if that counts, thats my last meal out.
The Wild Grape looks good. I like finding new places to go so I’m gonna have to try that one. Glad you had a fun date night!

true grit was awesome! the original was on tv the other day – it’s like the exact same – lines and all! it was cool to watch the old one too.
1)True Grit was the last movie I saw too. I loved it, heartfulness, and all;)
2) BJ’s Restaurant, a chain in the western states, I like their personal size pizzas which are 1/2 off during happy hour.
Date nights are important to help keep a relationship strong.

last movie i saw was “black swan” – and i loved it (we saw it on a date night!).
last meal out was last friday at our favourite local pub-style place with friends. it’s our usual hang-out!

(even though I drive by it every day). It is on my MUST eat at list now!
I never respond to the questions, but I think I will now.
1. Last movie, 127 hours. I locked myself out of my apt, so I walked to the Broadway Theater and it was playing. Was a great evening actually, forced time to calm and just ‘be’.
2. Last meal out….A great little wine bar in Houston. Was there over NYE. They actually make the worlds best fried chicken and I felt I had to try it, but didn’t want to order a whole meal of fried meat, so luckily they had a fried chicken salad….perfectly cooked and paired with a great glass of red. The last movie I saw in theaters was Harry Potter…for the third time. Needless to say I loved it!! And I ate Indian out last night. It was delicious, though I wish I’d gotten a chance to have dessert!

I’m a movie buff!! Very recent favorites include: The Fighter, 127 Hours, True Grit, and The Tourist. I thought Country Strong was just ok and Black Swan was over-hyped for what it was. I’m going to see The King’s Speech today. And I can’t wait for Blue Valentine to open near me!!

wow that chicken dish looks amazing! i love date nights, i’m going out to one tonight here: http://www.thecellarbyob.com/ hopefully they will have venison! i love it and it’s in season right now here. last movie we watched was the changeling (thanks netflix!) and it was eh ok. i could take it or leave it. i still need to see black swan! last dinner out was sushi, we split the love boat ha ;) it was perfect for the two of us since we both prefer heavy on the sashimi and little in the way of rolls.
I completely agree on True Grit! My BF and I are huge movie-goers and this was one of our favorites from the year. If you haven’t seen The King’s Speech, I totally recommend that as well!

LOVE date night :) Josh and I had one last night too. Its restaurant week in Charleston, so we went to our favorite spot- Grill 225. We split the most amazing banana bread pudding for dessert. We haven’t been to the movies in ages- I can’t tell you the last movie I saw in the theater. Have a great rest of the weekend

Hmmmm….last time I went to the cinema was to see Eclipse and I want to be a vampire when I grow up. Last meal I had out was today at our local pub. I had a pint of ale, a burger topped with stilton and home made chips. Bye bye diet!!

i enjoyed true grit as well, though it took me a while to warm up to it at first. we watched a double feature when we saw it – followed the movie up with “tangled.” i think we were the only people in the world to watch this combo of movies, but there was a common theme – little girls and their horses!

Geez, I feel like such a homebody, but the last movie I saw in theaters was Step Up 3 in August! I just would rather wait till I can Netflix it or get it from Redbox…the theater is just so frickin expensive these days!
Last meal at a restaurant was the Pancake Pantry in downtown Nashville two weeks ago where I discovered true bliss in a plate of light and fluffy sweet potato pancakes with cinnamon syrup!
