day off.

in meals

i love that i had monday off because today felt like a monday at work, but it was really tuesday, and tomorrow i will already be half way done with the work week.

i am lobbying for mondays off permanently. think my boss will go for it?

because i had the day off yesterday, i didn’t open my laptop all day long and instead, i went snowboarding. sometimes you just need to enjoy the great outdoors!

before hitting the slopes, i had breakfast:

IMG_5331

oikos greek yogurt with some ancient grains granola and peanut butter.

 IMG_5330

wheat toast with peanut butter and homemade raspberry jam. this is, hands down, my favorite thing to put on toast.

IMG_5329

my friend jessica and i went to the canyons. it was a gorgeous sunny day!

IMG_0297

we met up with jessica’s fiance, simon, and took some runs.

IMG_0293

turns out that although it was a nice day, the snow wasn’t exactly spectacular. after a few runs, we decided to get some food and bask in the sun.

IMG_0299

i went with the veggie chili, loaded with cheese and onions.

IMG_0300

delicious.

IMG_0301

baskalicious.

IMG_0303 IMG_0305

after snowboarding, i picked up some chipotle for me and the mister. i basically ate all day yesterday.

we watched adventureland while our chipotle digested and then headed to the bar for jessica and simon’s engagement party.

IMG_0332

congrats to the happy couple! aren’t they so gorgeous? they are going to make some cute babies one day.

i didn’t drink any booze at the bar, but i definitely ate more food. i mean, why not? marshall had cheese fries and vanilla frozen custard, which i had my fair share of.

i tried to get to bed at a decent hour since i had to be to work in the morning, but i managed to stay up past midnight. i always have the hardest time getting to bed early after the weekend! it made this morning rough. but knowing that there are only 3 more days of work until the weekend make it all okay.

i’ll be back later, it’s dinner time so i have to go eat more food.

Qs~

1. to the working folks: how many days a week do you work? i am a monday through friday, 8:00-4:00 gal. although i would be SO down to work four 10’s.

2. what’s your favorite thing to put on toast? see above for my two cents.

Liz @ Blog is the New Black January 4, 2011 at 6:02 pm

I do 5 8 hour days, but I could totally do a condensed work week! My favorite topping is just plain buttah!

Jessica @ How Sweet January 4, 2011 at 6:04 pm

Right now, I am obsessed with putting hummus and guacamole on toast. Like… obsessed.

runyogarepeat January 4, 2011 at 6:04 pm

I love your googles! I need to get some new ones, mine have been fogging up inside for no reason.

thedelicateplace January 4, 2011 at 6:05 pm

i do m-f 9-5pm i would do 4 10hr days as well, that last day is just such a waste ;)

Stefanie January 4, 2011 at 6:05 pm

Ah, snowboarding! I haven’t gone in 2 years–I need to get back out there.

I hope to work 8-4 once I’m in the working world! Even though I love staying up late, I’d rather get home at a decent hour and get up earlier!

As for now, I only work one day a week from 9-5 and classes take over my other days.

andrea January 4, 2011 at 6:05 pm

9-whenever for me but for the most part 9-5 pm. I love strawberry jam yum!!!

purplebirdblog January 4, 2011 at 6:10 pm

Working at home as a contractor can really suck balls, and sometimes I work 7 days a week. Not all day all 7, but way too much to make in order to make ends meet. I am actively seeking other employment to get me through school, and I’m actually going to be filing the big B this year which should actually serve to help me substantially. Just blows me away that they want $1800 in order for you to say you have no money. Grrrr.

Peanut butter and honey on toast. And lately peanut butter and maple syrup, eaten with a fork. Mmmmm.

kristastes January 4, 2011 at 6:17 pm

Ahhh you boarder chick you! I had off yesterday too, but I spent it being mad lazy. I work 5-8’s but I have the option of doing 4-10’s…I don’t like leaving the pup that long at home though so I stick with crazy 8’s.

Salah January 4, 2011 at 6:17 pm

looks like such a fun day!!! That chili looks like it was so warm and hearty!

Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) January 4, 2011 at 6:18 pm

I really want to try snowboarding whenever I see your snowboarding pictures!

I have a weird schedule since I’m student-teaching for a year. Before this, I worked 6 days a week, 7-8 hours a day. Hated it. Once I start teaching, my schedule will be 7am-3pm M-F with summers off! Woo!

Matt @ The Kitchen of a Runner January 4, 2011 at 6:19 pm

I work 7 days a week pretty much. It sucks :(

Peanut butter on toast all the way ;)

Lauren January 4, 2011 at 6:20 pm

So nice to have Monday’s off. I just realized I have one coming up. Martin Luther King day I believe? That’s one of the benefits of working for a bank. All of the government holidays can be taken advantage of.

Kelly January 4, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Cinnamon toast! Love!

KaraHadley January 4, 2011 at 6:22 pm

I almost always put pb and fruit on my toast. Apples, pears, peaches, sliced berries. It’s like pb&j toast, but with a much bigger bite and less added sugar.

Katie January 4, 2011 at 6:27 pm

Favorite thing on toast: pb and jam. LIKE YOU! :D

I can’t believe it’s Tuesday evening already. Time is flying by.

Naomi(onefitfoodie) January 4, 2011 at 6:40 pm

i love peannut butter and eggwhites on toast…sounds wierd but it works! the flavors and textures work SO well together and I love it!

that veggie chili looks darn good!!

congrats to your friends, they will surely make pretty babies one day!! (just like you and the mister :) )

simplyshaka January 4, 2011 at 6:47 pm

Gah, I would kill to work 4 10’s as well. I work m-F 8-5A, meh. Your day looks like so much fun–I want cheese fries and custard! I love all the beautiful onions on the chili as well.

BroccoliHut January 4, 2011 at 6:51 pm

Best toast topping=Laughing Cow and cherry preserves!

kissmybroccoli January 4, 2011 at 7:04 pm

I have 3 rotating shifts at the hospital: M-F 8:00-4:30, M-F 6:30-3:00, and M-Th 9:00-7:30. All the shifts have their pros and cons, but I like that they all rotate and give me a little variety!

Fave toast topping: avocado and jam!

Heather (Where's the Beach) January 4, 2011 at 7:04 pm

Looks like you had lots of fun! I’ve never been snow skiing. I’m a Mon-Fri 7-4 gal. I would love love love to have Mondays off (or Friday). I’m a firm believer in 4-day work weeks ;-)

lowandbhold January 4, 2011 at 7:27 pm

I would be super down for 4 10’s too. That would rock my world. I currently work M-F 7-4. Blah.

Fave thing to put on toast – whipped cream cheese and apricot preserves. LOVE.

Jess January 4, 2011 at 7:29 pm

Honey Butter sounds pretty awesome right now : )

I am a 9a-5p Monday – Friday. I firmly believe that I devote way too much of my life to my job, I wish I could work less….

Pure2raw twins January 4, 2011 at 7:31 pm

gosh this makes me miss living in Denver…love the mountains, just not too good with the snow – driving in it ;)

erin January 4, 2011 at 7:32 pm

I work 4 10’s and I do not like it…I think that if I didn’t have kids I would like it, but since I work 8-6..I am putting them on the school bus and then getting home at dinner time…we eat, do baths, read and then bed…I don’t get much time for them..and there i no time for me at that point. I do have Tuesdays off..but I find that I am cramming dr’s appointment, grocery shopping, Target runs in on that day…Sometimes I feel like..if I worked an 8 hr day I would have more time at home and more time to unwind…

Lindsey January 4, 2011 at 7:32 pm

My favorite thing to put on toast is a layer of butter and then top that with a layer of apple butter or strawberry jam. So good!

As far as working is concerned, I’m a graduate assistant right now while I’m in grad school, so I’m only working 20 hours a week.

runningaroundnormal January 4, 2011 at 7:34 pm

I work at my office job 2.5 days a week, but I train at least 1 or 2 clients about 5 days a week!

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) January 4, 2011 at 7:45 pm

I work 7 days a week at my paid job.
And 7 days a week at my unpaid one, i.e. mom, wife, cook, cleaner, etc.
I will work this pace until all my debt is paid and I have a certain sum saved. Period. I am ruthless :) or maybe insane.

The onions in that bowl….omg, i am lol’ing i hope everyone else was eating onions too…haha!

camera question…what setting do you put on your rebel for taking food pics, do you use the macro setting? and if so how far back/close do you stand? I am off auto settings and playing aorund with the P and the macro setting.

I also need to buy the 50mm 1.8 lens that everyone has and likes for about $100. Do you have that one? Sorry for all the cam questions but your pics inspire me!

Sara January 4, 2011 at 7:55 pm

Been reading your blog for awhile; haven’t commented much before.

I work as a teacher, so usually about 7:30am-4pm, 5 days a week. Plus probably about 10 extra hours a week at home, getting stuff ready. Four 10’s would rock! But summers off are pretty nice too… :-)

eliza January 4, 2011 at 7:59 pm

I am a waitress and work 4x a week plus clean the restaurant once a week.

I also do laundry for a wealthy lady 3x a week 4 hours each day- crazy, right? It’s good money too!

Muncher Cruncher January 4, 2011 at 8:07 pm

PB and homemade jam on toast is my FAVE. Homemade jam makes you detest all store bought jams…I think I’m tainted now. The slopes look amazing! So fun :)

Rose January 4, 2011 at 8:13 pm

I worked 4 10s when I was planning my wedding, but my boss put me back on 9-5. Boo.

I love hummus on toast. Mmmmm.

Kristie January 4, 2011 at 8:28 pm

I’m still an estudiante so no full work week schedule for me. Which has its pluses and minuses obviously, but I have no Friday classes so hoorah for 3 day weekend! I’m crossing my fingers for your perma Mondays off. Maybe someday it’ll just magically happen. Who knows right?!

Toast is good topped with ANYTHING. Why the heck don’t I eat toast more. Sometimes I just love toast straight up plain. Sometimes just with a bit a butta. Sometimes with CHEESE. So good with cheese.

snackgirlgoeshealthy January 4, 2011 at 8:28 pm

Your food pictures are ridiculous! I’m full…but you are getting me hungry! Lol
If you look at it from far away your chilly looks like frozen yogurt with candy! haha

Heather January 4, 2011 at 8:32 pm

lucky! i’d do just about anything for the 8-4 schedule…i’m M-F 8-5…blah. but the company’s not too shabby, so it works :) and favorite thing on toast? probably either butter and honey or butter and strawberry jam…YOM!

Allison @ Food For Healing January 4, 2011 at 8:40 pm

i’m monday-friday 8-430, just today i got a promotion and raise, so things are definitely turning up!
I love strawberry jam or nutella on toast!

Lily @ Lily's Health Pad January 4, 2011 at 8:53 pm

I would never want to work 4 10’s….I wouldn’t have time to fit everything into my daily schedule. When would I cook? When would I workout?

Currently I work 7:30-4:00. 7:30 is too early!!

inmytummy January 4, 2011 at 8:55 pm

I work M-F 8:30-5:30 with an hour lunch break. My first job was T-F, 9-7 and having every Monday off was wonderful!

inmytummy January 4, 2011 at 8:56 pm

I’m commenting again to tell you my husband’s awful work schedule. He works Wed-Fri 3:30 am – 12:30 pm and then Sat and Sun 2pm – 11pm. Sucks.

Jenn (GH) January 4, 2011 at 9:17 pm

I just have to say I love that you snowboard. It’s so cool to see a blogger do a different kind of sport! Brent did 4 10s the first year we were married. It was nice with a new baby. Now it’s even better and he works from home. LOVE. IT.

Katy January 4, 2011 at 9:23 pm

My favorite thing to put on toast is jelly! :) Or a little bit of butter and a LOT of cinnamon! :)

Kristen B. January 4, 2011 at 9:26 pm

Those raw purple onions make me want to throw up in my mouth!

Jessiker January 4, 2011 at 10:20 pm

Such a fun day with you !!! I love doing stuff with you always. We should do fun stuff together every Monday. I”ll have a word with your boss. xoxox

GET IN MY POCKET.

edenseats January 4, 2011 at 11:37 pm

i work five days a week but I have multiple jobs each day. I teach cooking at schools to days a week and I’m a private chef five days a week for about four hours at a time. I like my hours because I can sleep in or work out in the mornings.

Erika January 5, 2011 at 4:54 am

I love putting any kind of nut butter on toast, but when I’m being “bad” I like frosting on toast. ;]

This Healthy Life January 5, 2011 at 5:03 am

I work 7-5 M,T,TH,F and 7-12 on Wed. BUT I JUST PUT MY TWO WEEKS NOTICE IN!! Wahoo! Pursuing my dreams!

Toast..I dont eat often enough because I’m gluten-free anddd those loaves are expensive! But, back in the day I liked butter and honey. Warm ooey-gooey!

Erica January 5, 2011 at 5:04 am

Looks like a fun day! And that veg chili? YUM. I love how many onions they put on top- I would be in heaven! Congrats to the couple! They are totally adorable.

1. to the working folks: how many days a week do you work? I work 5 days but I work 75% time, so my Mondays and Fridays are shortened, and then I teach at the gym

2. what’s your favorite thing to put on toast? I either like it plain or with jelly

Eates-A-Lot January 5, 2011 at 5:06 am

I love Nutella on my bread.. but I’ve also been a been fan of just butter and cinnamon.

Adventureland was filmed at the amusement park in my city :)
I hope you enjoyed it!
Pittsbugh is amazing! :)

I work MF – 7-4. We should be getting 1 work from home day a week soon.

Alicia at Poise in Parma January 5, 2011 at 5:34 am

Wanted to let you know I received my coffee press cups Monday – can’t wait to try them out! Thanks again!

Beth @ 990 Square January 5, 2011 at 5:35 am

I work too much. I officially work 9-9 hour days out of every ten and get the 10th one off. So that’s a 7-4.30 schedule, but I usually end up working at least a half hour to an hour more each day. And then sometimes that day off doesn’t really materialize either…
