my whole day.

by Janetha on December 14, 2010

in meals,moves

remember back in the day when i told you all of my meals & moves?

man. how did i stay so consistent?? i am all over the place these days!

today, however, i kept pretty good tabs on my whole day. and now i am going to tell you all about it. enjoy!

image_thumb11

breakfast was my latest favorite.. good thing i can buy the ingredients in bulk!

IMG_3995

1/2 cup nature’s path ancient grain granola + 1 cup fage yogurt

IMG_4003

i love eating out of christmas tree shaped bowls. there’s just something about it. i also love my placemat.. not only is it all holiday-ed out, it has a snazzy houndstooth border. you know that was the reason i had to buy it. i am such a sucker.

IMG_3997IMG_4008

if you guys haven’t entered yet, make sure you swing by my nature’s path granola giveaway before it ends tomorrow night. this stuff is delicious and addicting!

IMG_4007

penny agrees.

IMG_4009

i like getting up earlier so i can enjoy breakfast at home with pups begging at my feet. no, it is not the begging that i enjoy.. it is just the fact that i can sit down and eat without staring at a computer screen.

which brings me to lunch, which i eat at my desk 97% of the time.

green chile chicken enchiladas

IMG_4019

and another festive placemat. you long time readers may remember this one from last year.

IMG_4027IMG_4025IMG_4026

only 11 days! well, 10 now.. today is almost over!

special thanks to momma b for sharing her leftover enchiladas with me.. they hit the spot.

IMG_4028

on my way out the door from work i snagged a slice of great harvest pumpkin bread. you guys, it is irresistible!

i also munched on a simply bar for some protein and then headed up to the outlet stores in park city with my mom. we had some christmas shopping to attend to!

the one notable store is my favorite of them all: harry & david.

IMG_4030

the last time i went to harry & david was right before halloween and it was decked out with all things spooky. this time, however, it was all things christmas. i loved it!

IMG_4031

IMG_4034IMG_4035IMG_4037IMG_4033

thought about buying this for marshall, then i realized i do all the chopping. Winking smile

IMG_4032

i did make a few unmentionable purchases for some special people in my life.

image_thumb2

it is basically a miracle that i made it to the gym today. i got home from shopping at 6 PM. it was dark, it was cold, and all i wanted to do was curl up with my little family, eat dinner and stare at the christmas tree. but, i know what’s best for my health, so i high tailed it to the gym for a mash up of cardio.

treadmill (10 minutes)

minute # speed
1 6.0
2 6.5
3 7.0
4 7.5
5 8.0

repeat one more time!

stationary bike (10 minutes) @ 70 RPM

minute # resistance
1 10
2 11
3 12
4 13
5 14

repeat one more time!

random moves while waiting for stairmill

  • squats on bosu ball holding 25# weight x12
  • dead lifts on bosy ball holding 25# weight x12
  • standing side bends holding 25# weight x12 each side
  • elbow to knee crunches on bosu x12 each side

stairmill (20 minutes)

speed intervals level 10

the end! i have no idea what my heart rate statistics were because i’ve somehow misplaced the strap.. but i will tell you that my whole back was drenched in sweat when i was done. appealing, right? point being: it was a great workout. i liked it.

image_thumb11

i was super excited for dinner tonight! marshall requested something in the crock pot so i perused recipes all night last night until i came across one on danica’s page. she is FULL of great recipes!

IMG_4040

kung pao cashew chicken!

IMG_4045

oh my gosh, i never thought i could make kung pao chicken at home, let alone in my crock pot!

this was a delicious blend of chicken, broccoli, red & yellow bell peppers, celery, carrots and red onion in an incredibly flavorful sauce made up of hoison, soy sauce, ketchup, sherry and sriracha. you all need to click here for the recipe and directions how to make it in the crock pot (it only takes 3 hours! i put it in after work and it was ready to eat by 7 PM.)—this was beyond delicious. and healthy!

IMG_4044

i loved the crunch that the black pepper cashews added to the dish.

oh.. and yes.. meal #3 called for festive placemat #3!

IMG_4042

thanks for the awesome recipe, D!

now marshall & i are watching the first episode of the new series called “shameless”—if it is anywqhere near as good as dexter, i will be a happy camper.

something to do! please click here and check out my long-time friend melina rocking out on youtube.. she is incredibly talented at singing and she needs to get 1,000 hits! thanks.

well, there’s my whole day. geez, this took quite awhile to type! i think i remember why i stopped doing this daily…

that recipe looks awesome– i love cashews.
highlight of my day? sleeping in:)

purplebirdblog December 14, 2010 at 11:03 pm

1. I usually eat breakfast camped in front of my computer screen at home while I catch up on blogs before I start work for the day.

2. The highlight of my day was my company Christmas party. Since most of us work from home we hardly ever see each other and it’s always nice to get together.

Meg December 14, 2010 at 11:04 pm

You have such a great eye for recipes! I love the idea of making kung pao in the crock pot. I’ve bookmarked it so I can make it soon. :)

I almost always eat breakfast at home. I like some time to wake up and just be. The highlight of my day is completing nearly all my Christmas shopping! I love giving presents to other people.

Lisa @ I'm an Okie December 14, 2010 at 11:05 pm

Seriously, the highlight of my day is right now. I took some no doz to stay up to study and I feel wired. In a fun happy way though. Yay Excretory system! (See, told you. Wired. Never though I would get excited about the excretory system!)

Clicked on your friends link. I’ll click again and get it some more views! She is amazing. Wouldn’t life be pretty great if you had some amazing talent like that?!

maria @ Chasing the Now December 14, 2010 at 11:09 pm

Those holiday coffees have me drooling. I can’t wait to go home and get my grinch hands on some “holiday” stuff. HEY–gotta make up for missing Halloween and Thanksgiving, right?

Melina Braithwaite December 14, 2010 at 11:11 pm

You are so fantastic for posting my link! Seriously, THE best ever! Thank you, thank you!

And on a side note, that dinner looks delicious! I’m going to have to try it sometime soon!

Danica December 14, 2010 at 11:41 pm

J ~ your pictures in this post are awesome. I have yet to open my camera box – I need more time, I suck LOL.

I LOVE, LOVE the Christmas Mat and Plates….

So glad you liked the recipe – it’s so tasty and easy. I need to use my crock more…..

LOVE you!

Danica

Sara @ Nourish and Flourish December 15, 2010 at 12:32 am

I received a crock pot for my birthday and have been searching high and low for appealing-sounding recipes! This definitely fits the bill! Yum.

Oh goodness, Mama B’s enchiladas look delicious. I think she should share the recipe with us!

And I LOVE everything from Harry and David…Have you ever tried their pears? SO juicy and sweet.

Runeatrepeat December 15, 2010 at 12:44 am

I like your whole day recaps :) And just brought out the crock pot to use tomorrow!

actorsdiet December 15, 2010 at 12:48 am

i think i need a xmas tree bowl…and to find a harry and david store – i think a pop up one just came to l.a. somewhere!

amy baily December 15, 2010 at 2:26 am

On the bus to college, I get stared out while I get out my green smoothie with oats in it, noone in england gets it!
I could not, ever, have a bag of crisps for breakkie like these kids do,
Btw your bowl is the cutest thing ever, I’m craving that range of coffee and I would like to kidnap (dognap) your dog, he is the sweetest!
xx

MelissaNibbles December 15, 2010 at 3:27 am

Shameless was not as good as Dexter and it’s also a remake of a British show. TERRIBLE remake that is.
Dinner looks great!

Jessica @ How Sweet December 15, 2010 at 5:35 am

I eat breakfast at home since I quit my job… but I always ate it at home anyway. :)

Lauren December 15, 2010 at 5:43 am

Harry David is like my candy store! And wait, I think they sell candy so it’s an added bonus. I could spend hours in there, and my entire paycheck.

Dinner looks great! I get what you mean, sometimes the crock pot doesn’t do justice for image but it always tastes good.

Sarah December 15, 2010 at 5:43 am

I usually eat breakfast at my desk… in front of my computer screen….. pathetic I know.
But that way I can workout at lunch time.

My highlight today was the creepy guy wasn’t on my subway car on my way to work! Yay!

Erica December 15, 2010 at 5:53 am

All The Christmas themed place mats are SO cute! I have a tree bowl I am yet to use- better pull that puppy out this week! Harry & David is such a fun store. Love all of their delicious samples. Kung Pao! I should make that for Josh! I usually eat breakfast in front of my computer (bad Erica). And highlight of my day? Well I just woke up a bit ago, so I guess Frank’s massive snoring.

coffeeandthepaper December 15, 2010 at 5:59 am

Whew what a day!

I love all of your Christmas dining accessories. It’s true that sipping coffee out of a santa mug or making sure your meal contains elements of both green and red makes things more fun this time of year!

Its still early, so the highlight of my day so far has been coffee!

lindsay December 15, 2010 at 6:05 am

I lvoe me some crock pot meals! Awesome. thanks danica! But on another note, I want to steal all your cute dishes!! :)

Di December 15, 2010 at 6:18 am

I usually eat breakfast at home, but occasionally will bring it to work and eat there.

Sounds like you had a hell of a day! Way to go getting some exercise in! It sounds like a great workout.

The highlight of my day was probably my dinner…cereal and a turkey and cheese sandwich. I don’t know why, it just made me super happy, haha.

Matt December 15, 2010 at 6:22 am

I usually eat breakfast at home while reading blogs ;)

Heather December 15, 2010 at 6:23 am

I eat breakfast at my desk Mon-Fri. I start work too early to eat at home!
Love the holiday spirit – makes me happy this early in the morning when I read your posts! :)

movesnmunchies December 15, 2010 at 6:29 am

i always eat breakki at home while catching up on blogs!
highlight of my day: my morning oats!

Patricia Braithwaite December 15, 2010 at 6:31 am

Thanks so much for posting Melina’s link. You are such a doll!! I love Harry & David. I can get so lost in that store gazing at all of the fun stuff. Can’t wait to get together after Christmas. I always eat breakfast at home.

withasideofhope December 15, 2010 at 6:50 am

Harry & David is a great store! It looks like I need to pay the store a visit. I love your bowl and placemats! So cute! That chicken dish looks incredible. I love that it only takes 3 hours to make in the crock pot. I definitely need to make that for dinner one night! :)

Faith December 15, 2010 at 6:54 am

I almost bought that football cutting board last time I was at H&D – SO adorable!

I usually eat breakfast @ home while blogging but occasionally I’ll eat it in my classroom @ work if I’m running late.

Heather December 15, 2010 at 6:55 am

i’ve never actually been in a harry & david store before! we always get gifts from there but i’d love to visit one some day :) hmmm…best part of my day so far has been waking up next to my hubby :)

inmytummy December 15, 2010 at 7:02 am

Harry & David’s Moose Munch is like crack. Love that stuff.

I usually eat breakfast at the dining room table.

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine December 15, 2010 at 7:03 am

Oh my goodness, 10 days till Christmas?! EEK!!

I always eat breakfast at home…it’s just a relaxing way to start my day. And the best part of yesterday by far was finally coming home for break. So happy to be here :)

Teri [a foodie stays fit] December 15, 2010 at 7:32 am

I LOVE your Christmas placemats and especially the tree bowl. So cute. And I love Penny. Maybe too much.

I always eat breakfast at home, usually while getting dressed since I always run out of time.

Tamizn December 15, 2010 at 7:39 am

It really depends for me, if I’m at home then I eat all my meals on the sofa in front of the tv which is not good I know but we don’t really have anywhere else. If I’m at work early and don’t have time for breakfast I take it in a cute tupperware pot same with lunch and sometimes even dinner.

Best thing so far today, hmmmmmmm………. my cherry quinoa porridge! YUM x x

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) December 15, 2010 at 7:42 am

Well seeing as I work from home… I eat breakfast at home! And at work. Usually in front of my computer. Bad girl…

Hilight of my day thus far… I had a really great breakfast! (It’s only 8:45 :P)

xo

Katie December 15, 2010 at 7:55 am

Wow – your friend Melina is incredibly talented! I wish I could sing like that!

1. Unfortunately, I usually eat breakfast in my car. Ick.
2. Highlight – a pre-dawn walk that the puppy and I took just a few minutes ago! Also, I’m getting ready to leave for a super exciting ultrasound in 5 minutes – eeek!

Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) December 15, 2010 at 7:58 am

Harry & David is SUCH an awesome store. It makes me want to spend money I dont have :)

Highlight of my day so far…getting breakfast made, and dishes done by hand, and put away. It’s the little thing, i tell ya!

Was wondering if I could feature your red velvet cake in an upcoming post of mine about friends’ food I want to make? I have the link and swiped 2 photos of it from your post (I am JUST linking back!!) and plan to publish Sat. but just Lmk if that’s cool and if not, that’s totally cool too :) Just bringing you traffic hopefully :)

Kristen December 15, 2010 at 8:18 am

I typically eat my breakfast at work. This way I can put off eating lunch a little longer (and then my afternoon snack…). My highlight so far? The delicious Nature’s Path Granola that I picked up at Costco last night after reading about it in your blog yesterday. It is AWESOME. I ate it in some caramel yogurt with a banana. omnomnomzzz

thetwentyfifthyear December 15, 2010 at 9:18 am

Ain’t no shame in houndstooth, my friend. Breakfast happens all over the house – in the kitchen, in my bedroom, in the bathroom while doing my makeup. That might sound gross, I’m definitely not sorry for it. Then I always have my Green Monster on the way to work. I love when I take it in a clear container and people stare at me like I am drinking pond sludge.

Talia @ Texas Gunslinger December 15, 2010 at 9:23 am

I flippin’ LOVE the Christmas tree bowl! Soooooooo cute! I’d probably wash it and eat every meal out of it until after Christmas HAHA!

Allison @ Food For Healing December 15, 2010 at 9:41 am

I usually have an apple mid-morning while i’m at work, I don’t normally have a breakfast.. i know i probably should. I’ll work on that but i at least try to eat some fruit

my day started off kind of crappy, got stuck in our parking lot and had to wake up my bf to help push me out. We had rain and snow last night (keep in mind i’m in Saskatchewan, and rain in December is NOT normal) and then traffic was slow this morning. BUT that best thing about today is that is it 9 days until Christmas

Naomi(onefitfoodie) December 15, 2010 at 9:43 am

Awww look at all your holiday decorations! super cute! i saw a snowman bowl at TJmaxx yesterday and almost got it but most of the time, I never use the funky dishes like htat haha but they are nice to look at!!!

chocolate peppermint coffee?!?!?! OMG i want some of that right now!!! i can smell the aroma in my kitchen of that stuff brewing up! YUM

I eat my meals in all sorts of places since my work schedule isn’t the same every day. SOmetimesbreakfast is at work, sometimes at home!

a taste of health with balance December 15, 2010 at 9:52 am

breakfast is usually home , and if im out its either oats in a jar or protein shakes! highlight of my day is figuring out what to do with 5 pounds of medjool dates…

enjoyingthechaos December 15, 2010 at 9:57 am

I usually eat breakfast at my desk…i am always in a rush to get out of the house with two little ones in tow…

The highlight of my day was drinking a big hot cup of my Harry and David’s Dark Chocolate Peppermint coffee…yes, I was there over the weekend and had to get myself a bag…my whole kitchen smells so yummy just because the bag of coffee is there.

off topic…you inspired me to cut my bangs…lol..I got so frustrated this morning with my hair that I grabbed my kids craft scissors and just but away…they are a little choppy but they work…I always feel that bangs are warmer in the winter!

Pure2raw twins December 15, 2010 at 11:04 am

I eat a lot of my meals at my computer ;) Breakfast is usually a smoothie so I am all over the place with it! LOL

I love the plate your lunch was on!
So cute!!

Freckled Foodie December 15, 2010 at 11:14 am

breakkie for me is eaten in a variety of ways. rarely at work, but some times on the road the way there.

cute christmas tree bowl!

xo.

thedelicateplace December 15, 2010 at 11:38 am

harry and david seriously have the most picturesque fruit evarrrr. also, i am currently obsessed with anything peppermint. i usually drink my breakfast on the way to work! the highlight of my day so far is finding out i have to give a data presentation at 330pm lol. yeahhhh is it christmas yet?

Carbzilla December 15, 2010 at 11:44 am

They CLOSED the Harry & David at our outlet mall. I stood in front of the replacement store for like 10 minutes in shock. What the what? (and I was totally in the mood for Moose Munch at the time)

I did send healthy H&D gift baskets to relatives this year, and they’ve been raving about them. They really do have the best pears.

I think life is crazy for everyone these days. Hang on and enjoy it!

Dawn (HealthySDLiving) December 15, 2010 at 12:07 pm

Great workout!!!
I eat breakfast 1st thing in the morning, usually checking my emails at the computer.

emily (a nutritionist eats) December 15, 2010 at 1:50 pm

I think I need some festive placemats!! I don’t have a single one!

kgirl December 15, 2010 at 1:53 pm

mmm enchiladas! ask momma b to guest post the recipe! :) its so fun when she makes an appearance.

cardiopizza December 15, 2010 at 2:32 pm

I like your festive place mats! :)

I either eat breakfast while watching morning talk Shows or at work at my desk if I am working super early!

Today I enjoyed a peaceful drive to work…for the past few days we’ve been blasted with snow, making the drive a bit hectic!

emily December 15, 2010 at 3:33 pm

1. Now I eat at home, but when I was a teacher I ate breakfast on the subway every single day.

2. Highlight – I’m done with exams for this semester!

Katy December 15, 2010 at 3:35 pm

I eat breakfast at home…every morning! :) Most of the time with Saved By The Bell reruns in the background. :)

Highlight of my day was running 5 miles in 5 degree weather! I’m a Floridian but I’m visiting family in the DC area, so I had to get my training run in for my half- marathon next month! SO COLD!
