i hope you all got a chance to read my interview with body for life champion, emily alvers. if not, make sure you check it out!
the last couple days have been pretty ho-hum. i am still sick. i worked out for the first time in 8 days today. i ran on the treadmill. it was hard and it hurt my lungs. i saw the latest harry potter yesterday, which was cool, but i wish i knew a little bit more about what was going on in the whole saga. the packers lost and that sent marshall into a deep depression. i thoroughly enjoyed last night’s episode of dexter and that was probably the highlight of my life these past two days.
i told you, it’s been ho-hum.
i did have a few lingering photos on the ol’ camera card from my trip to california. i can’t let them go unblogged!
i won at yahtzee!
i really never win at anything, so that was cool.![]()

i love playing games with my family. especially when i win ![]()
hole in the wall, greasy spoon diners are always fun to go to.
i love the atmosphere. the worn down booths. the fake wood paneling on the walls.
i love the coffee. made from the old school coffee brewing station.
can you believe that 99% of the menu was filled with different omelet choices? fact.
i went veggie.
avocado, bell pepper, mushroom, spinach, cheddar & salsa.
there was not a CHANCE i was going to finish that meal. however, i did make a dent.
no matter how much i love hole in the wall breakfast joints.. i always feel really crappy about an hour later. i guess my stomach doesn’t love the grease.
sorry dean’s café, i probably won’t be back.
i am tragically horrible at bowling.
it’s true. i am the worst bowler on the planet.
you guys. i bowled a 53.
and although my pouting disposition may have fooled everyone—i really did have a good time. we all did.
danica is too sweet for words.
when we hung out on wednesday, she brought me two amazing treats.
first up: annie the baker cookies!
yes, you can be jealous.
she brought me a couple of the sugar cookies with rainbow sprinkles:
and a couple chocolate chip:
these are balls of heaven.
because danica couldn’t find any annie’s snickerdoodles (my favorite kind of cookie) she went above and beyond the point of niceness and brought me a couple snickerdoodle cupcakes from a fancy bakery.
words CANNOT describe how delicious the cinnamon cream cheese topping was on these cupcakes.
i am serious. best cupcake ever.
THANK YOU DANICA.
when in california, at least one trip to trader joe’s is mandatory.
i got some good stuff! i am sure you will see some of the things i bought pop up this week.
when your husband has to go home early for a funeral, you should console your sadness with ice cream.
you guys. i am kidding. i would have eaten ice cream whether marshall was there or not. obviously. but he did have to go home early, and that was sad. and the ice cream was good.
i only had ONE leftover turkey, cranberry & stuffing sandwich.
oh, the tragedy of having thanksgiving out of town. no leftovers at home. i want 10 more of these delicious sandwiches.
being lazy with family members is one of my favorite ways to spend my time.
and i really wish my sister, brother in law and nieces lived in utah.
even if my sister spends 73% of the lazy family time on the computer ![]()
i miss them already. thanks to my sis and her fam for letting us spend the holiday with her. it was a much needed vacation—marshall and i both agree.
back to business as usual! hope you all enjoyed the long holiday weekend and that your monday was somewhat tolerable. here’s to getting back into the swing of every day things.. until christmas hits, that is.
Qs~
1. who is/are your favorite person/people to be lazy with? or do you like being lazy alone? dogs and marshall are at the top of my list. my mom is a blast to be lazy with because she is the only one who can rival me in boggle. ![]()
2. are you a horrible bowler? please say yes. it will make me feel better about my shortcomings as a bowler.

Wow, that omelet place looks amazing. I’m vegan and don’t eat eggs, but I can only imagine something along those lines. Awesome! And all those desserts looks scrumptious. Glad you’re having a great time!
For the record – I love that menu! :) Glad you had so much fun with the family – we did too, and now are suffering post-holiday depression (only for a few weeks though….). Ha!
I am awful at bowling. I mean it – I bowl underhand.
I love hole in the wall diner’s! Your nieces are adorable. I am awful at bowling but I am still competitive and try to act like I am better than Billy. Those cookies look absolutely amazing. Working out after being sick hurts so bad. Hope you get back to feeling like yourself.
I am truly horrible at bowling but oddly really good at Wii bowling. Anyway, one of my first tiffs with Seth is when we went bowling…because I am a really sore loser, apparently.
Hehe, I know what you mean. It is best if I don’t compete with Marshall at ANYTHING.
I am so horrible at bowling that I am often the amusement…especially when I break out the bumpers and the granny style approach! Yep, I’m that girl… ;) also, where did you get that black jacket?! Is it a sweatshirt blazer?! I want one. Xo
Yep, I’m bad at bowling. My hubby beats me every time. It’s still fun, even when I lose.
Snickerdoodles are my favorite cookie too!
I am an intensely horrible bowler. Like, in the 40s horrible.
That picture of you and Marshall with the kiddos is dang cute. If you guys go the baby route, you are going to have ridiculously gorgeous children.
Don’t feel bad, I’m pretty awful at bowling too! Although I think I bowled closer to a 70 last time I went! ;)
I love being lazy with my family! We can just watch movies and veg out all dayy! :)
99% omelets?! that’s crazy! :)
So you need to moved to California, ok? ok!
Your whole family makes me smile! Truly, you are so lucky!
I’m sorry about the funeral, but I can assure you, ice cream works wonders.
Bowling? I suck. yep, I managed to have gutter balls even with bumpers.
Lazy? I dont really care who I’m lazy with as long as they aren’t more active than me so as to not make me feel bad.
LOVE this post!!! I am not a fan of greasy breakfast joints either. in fact, breakfast is probably my least favorite meal to dineout. I know the horror, some people live for going out to brunch, but not me, I love making my own leisurely breakfast in my PJ’s! Lunch and dinner anyday, but dont mess with my breakfast LOL
I love being lazy with my family or with my BF…we just sit around, (these days light fires!) and watch tv…its the best!
I havent bowled in YEARS but I probably am terrible!
and I want that snickerdoodle cupcake!
can’t remember the last time i bowled…but i’m no natural, for sure.
now yahtzee!!! that’s our family’s go-to game! pretty much a weekly match up with my parents on sunday eve…and i get very competitive! my dad won this past sunday with two yahtzees – that’s hard to top.
so glad you had fun being lazy/going to diners/bowling/spending time with your family. happily christmas is a-coming soon!
I hope you feel better soon! It sounds like you had a nice time with your family. I love omlettes…I don’t know what I would do in that place. Probably cry from not being able to make a decision.
I like being lazy with family and/or friends. Either watching tv or playing board games or video games, hehe.
I suck at bowling. The last time I bowled (candlepin) I got a 50-something and I think my highest string was a 60-something. Horrible! I don’t remember the last time I bowled 10-pin though…that may have to be on my to-do list for the winter. :)
I am sorry to hear that you are still sick but it looks like you are resting up well and in good company. Your family time makes me want to take the next month off and just hang out with mine all day. I love that you guys always have such a great time together. ;)
PS- I SUCK at bowling!!!! Who doesn’t? :)
That Trader Joe’s looks huge! A lot bigger than mine!
Being lazy is THE BEST. LOL.
this has nothing to do with your post but I just had to tell you how stinkin cute your family is. It makes me smile to see such love and joy!
LC
Thanks, Linds! xo
Diner menus are the BEST!
I love being lazy with my son and pup – though the boy starts to get restless after awhile – I guess that’s an 8 yr old for you. Can’t sit still for more than 30 minutes! :)
i like to be lazy by myself. when i’m not alone, whoever i’m with tends to pressure me to not be lazy! even my dog does this.
i’m okay at bowling. i usually get around 100.
I’m the worst bowler on the face of the planet. I’m pretty sure I could lose to that 53. Ironic, too, because my grandfather was apparently a beast at bowling. He had a heart attack in a bowling alley, actually, and my mom always says she’s glad his last moments were spent doing something he loved.
I love that BR still sells that crazy colored ice cream. I have no idea what they put in it to make it neon colored, but those colors make is 100x better.
I hope you feel better FAST! Its too easy to get sick around the holidays. Love the pictures from your trip. The diner looks fabulous- what a HUGE menu. Love the veg options. We haven’t been bowling in ages (I am terrible but still love to go).
1. who is/are your favorite person/people to be lazy with? or do you like being lazy alone? Definitely Josh & Frank
2. are you a horrible bowler? See above, I am HORRIBLE
Looks like a great trip if you ask me. I like being lazy with my hubby. As for bowling. It’s totally hit or miss for me. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good. And you just reminded me that the hubs has been wanting to go bowling.
lazy family time is my favorite :)
glad you had a great time! xo.
I am curious who puts almonds in omelets… or sour cream… or celery for that matter… such interesting choices! I love holeinthewall Breakfast joints- they are my favorite!!
and your nieces are SO cute… They look like my little sisters at that age- its crazy! The first time I saw photos I thought perhaps there was some relation…. ;)
i love getting sour cream on omelets.. like, mexican style ones, ya know? marshall actually got his w/ sour cream that time around. i had never seen almonds or celery as choices, though! crazy.
any omelet house is a safehaven for me haha. love my eggs! fact: the only TJ’s i’ve ever been to was in SF! i too am a horrible bowler!
I love being lazy with my husband. It’s so rare that we both have the chance to do so!
All of those eats look super delicious. Hope you continue feeling better. Today will be my first day back at the gym in awhile. I wonder how my body will handle it.
I am a terrible bowler.. and I love being lazy with my boyfriend and my family !
Sorry you’re ho hum the past couple days. Hope you feel better soon! I know I always feel a bit ho hum after the holidays and seeing all of my family. Christmas is just around the corner though :D Looks like you had a blast in Cali!! I’m so jealous you got to try THE balls, too :)
Aww. Tell Marshall we are so sorry for his loss.
I’m actually a pretty decent bowler when I can find a ball light enough. Chris is actually the one who’s surprisingly very good (with a cute little foot flip at the end of his throw). I took lessons in high school but he’s a natural.
Feel better soon!
thanks, tiff! <3
Sorry that Marshall had to go home early – but glad you had a chance to chillax and dominate at yatzi!
I am an awesome bowler – when I lived in Virginia when I was 20, I didn’t know anyone so I joined a bowling league. My average used to be 220!
But now 20+ years later, when my daughter Hannah and I go bowling, my first game is always around 170, then just gets worse the more I play – I think too much! :D
Hope you are feeling better!
Oh my gosh, you are a rock star at bowling! I am impressed!!
I love being lazy with my boyfriend:) – part of why I didn’t get any work done last night! And I’m a horrible bowler too, don’t feel bad!
I love all the pix and I am going o have to borrow them once I blog about this in six months! And aren’t how all of the couches are occupied with college football watchers, the computer is the only place to go… And shop! Can’t wait to see you again!
Haha, you should just post a link on your blog: “click here to see my thanksgiving”
Yahtzee and bowling – so fun! I loved reading that interview you did.
Glad you had a fun time in Cali :)
My favorite person to be lazy with is my boyfriend! We SCHEDULE time to just lay on the couch and watch TV on demand!
And I’m just okay at bowling…have my good games and bad games.
I am a natural home body so being lazy is a daily occurrence, but with a little doxie on my lap or next to me at all times. Ben has his own couch and Kronus roams around, he also has his own couch!
I think I’m a pretty good bowler, I’ve gotten some turkeys in my life. From all the Facebook banter it sounds like Virgil is rockin the lanes lately!
Snickerdoodle cupcakes are on my list to make in the near future, gives me a little inspiration!
I like to be lazy with my kitties.
I am a horrendous bowler, it’s embarassing. Even more so when I do something good and freak out because it’s some sort of miracle.
Looks like a great time! Except bowling. I hate bowling ;)
i’ve said it once, and i will say it again: CUTEST. KIDS. EVER.
I want that cupcake!!!
danica is so sweet. true story. and those balls are now legendary.
what a scarily massive diner menu. i dont even know that i couldve navigated the whole thing.
im great at wii bowling, but i probably suck in real life. no idea. i dont think ive been bowling in years. cant be too sure though, since bowling usually involves drinking, which is why im also not sure if im good or not. :)
Janetha, gosh I’ve missed ya! I’ve been blog-MIA for over a week and just now getting caught up! I hope you feel as healthy as a show horse ASAP!
I don’t think your days are ho-hum in the least! All these pics of you and your family are so sweet and you really are blessed! They all seem like the perfect crowd for a lazy day HA!
My Hubbs is my favorite person to spend a lazy day with! He and I didn’t get out of our PJs all day Sunday until church (which we opted to go at night *because* we were so lazy and snuggly HAHA) We love those days every now and then, especially as it gets cold and rainy.
PS, that cupcake looks abso-flippin-lutely like the yummiest thing ever created! I swear I tasted cinnamon in my mouth just looking at it. I need to see if that bakery can ship overnight…oh my! ;)
1. I like to be lazy with my husband, actually, I love it! We were talking the other day and determined that we could probably be happy/satisfied if we spent the rest of our lives on the couch together. I’m a little bit worried about what that means for me as a person, good thing he’s in medical school huh?! :)
2. I am a terrible bowler. In fact, I’m so bad that you probably don’t even get to call yourself terrible. 53? Pshaw. I once ended a game in the 30s! Although some times I get all idiot savant and actually do pretty “well” (like in the 80s).
Everything about your family Turkey Day looks like a ton of fun, sorry Marshall had to go home early. And I’m beyond jealous of those balls!
Your nieces are INCREDIBLY CUTE! =)
1) My favorite person to be lazy with is definitely my husband. I think he sees me in my pajamas more often than he sees me in real clothes.
2) I am a sub-par bowler. My all-time high is 138? Not bad, but not good. My cousin is a pro bowler so you think it would run in our family. But, nope. Wrong!
I love Boggle with my mom too! She is amazing – I get so excited when I beat her :)
I recognize Dublin bowl!! Am I correct? :) I’m not an AWFUL bowler, but I’m not great by any means. During my bowling class (yes – a class in college), I usually scored around 120-140s.
that looks like such a good time!!! Those cupcakes look soooo amazing!!!
ps. I joined BFL yesterday :-)
OMG Dean’s! My best friend grew up in Pleasanton CA and I’ve totally eaten at Dean’s a bunch of times! Their serving sizes are RIDICULOUSLY huge, fo sho. On Main St. too: try Stacy’s (owned by Scott Adams, the Dilbert comic guy- hilarious menu, yuuuummy and slightly fancy shmancy food) and Gay Nineties (bizzare name, gooiest cheesiest yummiest pizza pies ever!). There’s also the world’s cutest dairy that sells soft serve cones just off Main St., which is also totally worth checking out. You’re making me crazy miss Cali!
k i LOVE being lazy with deej and jenna (my sister) i can just hang in my ugly Jets pj pants and big sweatshirts and guzzle popcorn and watch marathons and marathons of bravo shows <3
i can't BELIEVE you could choose 6 options in that omelet! thats the deal fo the century
