secret photo shoot revealed!

by Janetha on November 16, 2010

in meals,moves

it is pretty cold outside these days. especially in the mornings. that’s why i had to check my temperature when i woke up craving an icy, cold protein shake for breakfast.

IMG_2435

okay, i didn’t really check my temperature, but isn’t that strange? i rolled with it and broke out the vitamix for some morning blending.

IMG_2437

image_thumb11

blueberry banana protein shake.

into the mix:

  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond breeze
  • 1 scoop EAS vanilla whey protein powder
  • 2/3 of a frozen banana
  • 3 handfuls of frozen bloobs
  • 4 big leaves of kale
  • 10-15 ice cubes

i didn’t even need xanthan gum or guar gum to make the shake thick and creamy—a frozen banana does the trick! if you can’t get your hands on the gums, just freeze a banana.

IMG_2443

may not be the prettiest color, but i can assure you that the flavor combination was spot on. my all time favorite protein shake combo is this one—the mix of blueberries, banana and vanilla never lets me down. plus, portable breakfasts win at life.

IMG_2449

guess what? i ate three sandwiches yesterday. yep. i am a sandwich fiend. i had an egg white scramble for breakfast and sandwiched the eggs between two slices of toast. i had a turkey sandwich for lunch like i showed you. and last night, instead of oatmeal like i’d mentioned, i actually had a grilled turkey and haavarti sandwich for dinner. marshall doesn’t really like sandwiches, but i could eat them for days on end without tiring of a single sandwich. love ‘em.

it’s no surprise that i whipped up another sandwich for lunch today. fact of the matter is, if i don’t have leftovers then i will 99% of the time make a sandwich. and, since i haven’t been cooking very substantial dinners lately, the ol’ leftover bank is empty.

IMG_2451

turkey & laughing cow blue cheese on oat bread with lettuce & honey dijon mustard.

IMG_2454

this was good.. but what i REALLY want to try is the sandwich that changed holly’s life. part three.

i won’t bother showing you my after work/pre-workout snack. it was cottage cheese and a bowl of cereal, in case you wondered.

image_thumb2

i didn’t mention this yesterday, but i have decided to fall back on my old favorite: body for life workouts. they work well for me and produce results. they are fast and efficient. why wouldn’t i do them?

so, yesterday was HIIT and that meant today was lower body. i did a modified version of my go to lower body workout:

the end!

image_thumb11

i put dinner together before working out, so when i got home the whole house was filled with the delicious aroma of stuffed peppers.

IMG_2461

stuffed bell peppers are one of my favorite dinners! my recipe can be found here.

IMG_2458

side of asparagus.

IMG_2459

doused in ketchup.

IMG_2465

there is no other way to top a stuffed pepper, in my humble opinion.

IMG_2464

i came home to some FABULOUS mail today.

first up was a big case of chobani that i won from matt. thanks, matt! funny thing is, marshall bought the 12 pack case of chobani from costco on his way home today. we are fully stocked with 24 containers of chobani! not to worry!

my second item of mail is something that i have been waiting to see for a long, long, long, LONG time.

remember my top secret photo shoot back in may? well, you probably DON’T.. because that was six months ago.. but yes—back in may there was a top secret photo shoot that i couldn’t spill the beans about.

imageimage

well.. the secret is out!

IMG_2470

many of you know deb, the wonderful woman behind smoothie girl eats too. well, she has been working on a top secret project all year long.

deb best describes the story behind the calendar in her post, so i will quote her:

The idea for this calendar stemmed from a running joke that my Dad used to make.  He always said that my blogging friends were pretty enough to be calendar girls.  Each time I had a ‘meet up’ with a new girl, he would ask "So another one for the calendar?"  The answer was always "yes."  And we giggled at the thought of a blogger calendar.

It wasn’t until he was dying of lymphoma in April 2010 that I had the idea to turn his joke into a reality.  Working together on this project was a fun distraction for him in his last weeks of life.  He helped to choose all of the girls and his favorite photographs as well.  The day before he died, he chose the final photo.

her story behind the calendar gives me chills every time i read it. i heard deb talk about her dad often and know he was a great man. i am so honored that i was “one for the calendar”—such an honor.

IMG_2473

june! because that is the month i was born.

we were instructed to take a food or fitness themed photo in pin-up style for the calendar.

the pin up photo shoot was SUCH a blast. my friend erin did my makeup and her friend ethan did the shoot. momma b lent me her barbell and was with me throughout the whole process.

i feel a little silly posting these photos, but i think it was a ton of fun and so i wanted to share them with you guys. not used to plastering photos of myself all over—but this is a special occasion Winking smile

all images below are copyright ethan killian photography.

imageimage

deadlifts are NOT easy in heels!

imageimageimageimageimageimage

there were lots of photos and poses to choose from.. i am happy with the one that ended up in the calendar!

IMG_2476

all the photos in the calendar are food or fitness themed! i love that.

there are 14 of marty’s babes in the calendar. they are:

deb has all of the photos posted month by month on her blog in this post.

now the fun part. these calendars are for sale! and the best part of it all is that all profits of sales from the calendar will be donated to USC Norris Cancer Hospital.  this hospital and doctors Ann Mohrbacher and Don Feinstein helped to keep deb’s dad living life to the fullest for years beyond what was predicted.

If you would like to order a calendar to help support cancer research and as a memento of your blogging days, drop Deb an email at: LASmoothieGirl(at)gmail (dot) com.  Cost is $15 including shipping within the USA for the first 80 that are sold.  Thereafter it will be $17.99 plus shipping directly from the printer.  Non-US residents, email Deb and she will let you know how much it costs to ship.

i hope some of you decide to purchase a marty’s blogger babes calendar so we can raise some money for charity. please pass the word on as well—the more calendars sold, the better! Smile

Qs~

1. if you were going to take a food or fitness themed photo for a calendar, what would you do?

2. sandwiches: can’t get enough of them (like me) or tire of them quickly (like marshall)?

Tiffany @ The Gracious Pantry November 16, 2010 at 10:16 pm

OMG! You’re adorable! What fabulous photos. Congratulations!

Lisa @ I'm an Okie November 16, 2010 at 10:16 pm

So cute! your arms are rocking. seriously.

And sandwiches—if they involves eggs and cheese, then I could eat them every darn day. Anything else, I tire of them.

I’d probably want some sort of shoot that had to do with dancing or salsa or something since I do love that for cardio now. Or, a jump rope. No idea how to make that sexy though, haha :)

janetha @ meals & moves November 16, 2010 at 10:19 pm

I’m positive you’d make jump roping sexy.

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) November 16, 2010 at 10:36 pm

I was thinking of doing something with a jump rope but decided that it would be uber tacky to do something ‘sexy’ for my Dad’s calendar. So I opted for the G-rated smoothie ;-) Funny, my second choice would be something dancy too.

Veggies, Cake and Cocktails November 16, 2010 at 10:19 pm

Great photos for a great cause! I’m going to head over and check out all the other photos.

Stefanie November 16, 2010 at 10:23 pm

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) November 16, 2010 at 10:38 pm

Omg the calendar is such an amazing idea!!! And you look beyond drop dead gorgeous!! Doing dead lifts no less…omg. Classic!

Deb is amazing…I had no idea she had this little trick up her sleeve. Wow. SO COOL!!!!

Anyway all the ladies look awesome! What a bunch of BABES!!! woo-hooooooo!

:)

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) November 16, 2010 at 10:39 pm

Janetha Bean I can’t thank you enough for being such an enthusiastic part of this and for promoting it like this. You know that Dad was very torn between the one we used and the one of you doing the dead lift and winking. It was neck & neck. One of my fave shots is of you in the curlers. I’m so glad you had fun doing it too. I remember you were having a rotten start to the day, but the shoot brightened everything up- yay for hottie photoshoots.

Sammies: yes please. I don’t think there’s one I don’t like unless the bread is soggy. If calories were no object, my fave would be a gyros pita. HOMG HOMG!

Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) November 16, 2010 at 10:53 pm

You look absolutely amazing! I LOVE THESE!!!!! :)

The story behind the calendar is incredible. I need to email Deb and purchase one for myself. How awesome :) I love how you have a green smoothie in some of the pictures. Amazing.

Way to go with the HIIT workout, my friend! I need to get back on the ball with HIIT. I always notice results so quickly.

edenseats November 16, 2010 at 11:32 pm

This is no shocker, your hot in heels and in vans.
I would love to do a calendar! Ha, I am in no way pin up material though. I’d have pictures of my favorite bloggers with no make-up, eating. But I dont think I would participate in it cause I look very fugly without make up!

janetha @ meals & moves November 16, 2010 at 11:33 pm

Doubt that! You are drop dead gorgeous.

spabettie November 16, 2010 at 11:51 pm

AWESOME photo shoot! you look FABULOUS! I love bustier tops.

for my photo I’d want to be smashing a tennis ball over the net OR jumping off a ski jump. two of my favorite things. :)

YES I love sandwiches! I’ve been known to eat three in a day. Luckily Jason loves sandwiches also. :)

Carbzilla November 16, 2010 at 11:58 pm

GAH! I LOVE these pics. You are freaking knock down gorgeous and adorable – Gorgeorable???

Words can’t even describe it.

Julia November 17, 2010 at 12:20 am

Oh Janeetha – you’re gorgeous. The story behind the calendar had me in tears – and it is truly very beautiful! So glad you shared the photos!

Julia November 17, 2010 at 12:20 am

And I apologize for getting a little “e” happy in your name in my first comment! It’s late.

Mary (A Merry Life) November 17, 2010 at 4:18 am

OMG. That is so freaking awesome! Those are really great photos Janetha!

April November 17, 2010 at 5:18 am

Those pictures are SO you! I’d be sweating it up on a treadmill :)

I don’t eat many sandwiches but when I do I love them. Mike eats one everyday.

Matt November 17, 2010 at 5:23 am

24 containers of CHO? That sounds like heaven!

I am a total sandwich fiend too ;)

lindsay November 17, 2010 at 5:32 am

kgirl November 17, 2010 at 6:18 am

HA! those photos are SO cute!! These are the classiest pinup photos I’ve seen! I love the winking dead-lift.

Erica November 17, 2010 at 6:40 am

oh my gosh! Your pictures are so freaking adorable! You look fabulous! Congrats! The calendar is a really great idea. Whoop whoop. I’m not much for sandwiches but Josh is a mega fan. He eats one for lunch every day. And yes, ketchup is very necessary on so many dishes- I’m obsessed. In terms if I were going to take a picture, I’d like to be baking with one hand, lifting weights with the other. The great balancing act :)

Talia @ Texas Gunslinger November 17, 2010 at 6:53 am

JANETHA! OMG, you are too cute! Love love love the photos of you in heels with a barbell- that’s sexy in my book! I’ve ALWAYS loved the pin-up+ feminine + strong look. You TOTALLY captured that perfectly!

The photos remind me of when I’m in the weight room surrounded by iron and testosterone wearing my weight gloves with my beautiful french acrylic nails sticking out. I’m all feminine, but I’ll kick your butt if you leave your weights lying around HAHA!

Seriously, that calendar is an awesome idea! I will check it out! I told hubby back in July that I wanted a photo shoot after I compete and since losing 30 lbs, I am going to maintain my weight and schedule something this spring, just as a reward to myself for accomplishing my goal. I would want my photo shoot to be sorta like yours- all dolled up, but incorporating fitness somehow since I’m so so so passionate about it. HUGS!

Abby November 17, 2010 at 6:58 am

I’m so jealous you had a real photo shoot, as mine was in my living room with my janky-ass little cheap camera ;) You look HOT, woman! So fun!

Sandwiches–as long as they are made with good bread, I could eat them every day, and there are some weeks that I do. My favorite is no surprise–toasted Ezekiel with a whole mashed avocado, spinach and oregano, smashed together, cut in two triangles and then eaten with a knife and fork open-faced (it’s too tall to eat all together.) Almond/Sunbutter and banana is a close second, but eaten like a normal person.

Heather November 17, 2010 at 6:58 am

SHUT UP!! This is freakin cool!! You look amazing, and so darn cute to boot! :)
What a great idea……

coffeeandthepaper November 17, 2010 at 7:10 am

What an amazing project. And you look gorgeous! It’s fun to dress up like that – when else are you gonna do it?

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) November 17, 2010 at 7:32 am

This is SO great- such an amazing thing, and you look AWESOME, girl!

I think I’m going to buy it :D

I love the pin-up style you’ve got going on, that would be a fun shoot I think.

I love sandwiches, as long as they are different sandwiches every time- I need to mix it up!

xo

elise November 17, 2010 at 7:44 am

sooo cute!!! now i have to go to debs to see all the rest :) im definitely impressed by the workout in heels

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine November 17, 2010 at 7:51 am

Oh my gosh this is SO COOL!!! Ahh haha now I want one!! That pic of you is AWESOME, by the way…I love the pose on the dumbbell. Glamour girl for sure- and seriously, could your hair BE any more perfect for the role?!

And I loooove sandwiches. I used to eat one EVERY DAY for lunch during my ED, so I got kind of sick of them, but after a year of mixing it up, I’m ready to come back to them!!

april November 17, 2010 at 7:52 am

You look gorgeous!! You made lifting weights super sexy!

Sofia November 17, 2010 at 7:53 am

hot pictures!! you look amazing! and what fun. my ex-roomie did a pinup photo shoot thing like this a few months back. she LOVED it – bought fancy lingerie, spent the day learning how to pose for pictures (i hear mouthing vowels works – haha), and got some awesome shots as did you and the other ladies at the end.

MelissaNibbles November 17, 2010 at 7:55 am

Oh my god!!! You are so sexy!!

brandi November 17, 2010 at 8:13 am

girl a green smoothie and a barbell never looked so good.

i don’t like how you say “fall back on bfl workouts”! i think bfl workouts are great and you love them so isn’t that like “i get to do bfl workouts!” change your words NOW. hahahahaha love you ;)

janae @hungryrunnergirl.com November 17, 2010 at 9:24 am

Women you are SEXY! I love the photos….I bet Marshall loved them too:)
Blasted cold weather in Utah. I don’t know how you drank a smoothie but it did look amazing.

omg girl you look GEORGEOUS!! i mean you are beautiful but those pics are phenomenal!! I love the shoot and all of the poses and the one you ended up with on the calender is DEF my favorite. Oh man deadlifts in heels hahah I don’t even want to attempt that!!

it reminds me of my all time favorite marilyn monroe picture of her lifting weights! Love it! I wuold definately do something like you with a barbell or DB’s or something fitness related! haha maybe even on the treadmill on heels, something silly like that! I love the idea of the calender and can’t wait to check out the pics of the other ladies!

ihearteggs November 17, 2010 at 9:53 am

GORGEOUS pics! i love them all!!!

I actually did a fitness-y themed shoot after my last competiton, but it was sort of like yours, fitness meets glam. :) Loved it!

And I’m definitly a sandwich person! Anytime, anyday! YUM!

Susan November 17, 2010 at 9:54 am

Loooove seeing all the outtakes from the shoot!! Such fun photographs to have, and much more classier than mine (ie self timer in my mom’s basement). But I LOVE the pic that ended up in the calendar – it’s perfect!!

I ate sandwiches two out of three meals yesterday. I would eat them for all three meals if it wasn’t for that silly “balance” thing ;)

Jessiker November 17, 2010 at 10:58 am

THISISSOSTINKINGCUTE!!!! Janetha! I love this. I love the one of you winking while lifting the weights that is by far my fav. And all these years I though you couldn’t wink ;) I’m so proud of you and you going after what you love and deserve.
