random to the max.

in meals

i count how many swipes of deodorant i put on in the morning.

image

i mean, i wouldn’t want my armpit coverage to be unbalanced, would i? i asked marshall if he counts. for the record, he doesn’t.

breakfast: peanut butter & jam protein oats.

IMG_1569

  • 1/3 cup oats cooked slow on the stove in 2 cups of water
  • 1 serving of tera’s whey bourbon vanilla protein powder
  • 1 T mighty maple peanut butter
  • 1 T sugar free raspberry jam

IMG_1575

by the way, tera’s whey works great in protein oats. this was my first time using it for my oatmeal. IMG_1580

today i bought a gadget that cooks hard or soft boiled eggs in the microwave.

because april told me to.

image

i also bought a loaf pan, a meat thermometer and some salad tongs. i love csn stores. they have everything.

i am real accident prone. i have photographic evidence. times two.

one: friday night, i burnt my thumb knuckle (weird term) on the broiler of my oven. it hurts. real bad.

IMG_1596

two: saturday night, i slipped on some water and fell on my knee. big bruise, clumsy janetha g.

IMG_1635

lunch: leftover meatballs & leftover roasted vegetablesIMG_1581

all smothered in ketchup. because that just felt right.

IMG_1582

double you tee eff? this is too far, folks.

IMG_1684

and i thought the shape up sneakers were bad. this takes it to a whole new level.

while we are on the subject of boots… target has some cute boots for girls with big calves.

if you don’t believe i have big calves, you can reference the bruise photo above. no shame in my muscles :)

exhibit A:

exhibit B:

exhibit C:

image

oh, wait a minute.. exhibit C is not a pair of boots at all. but they are still cute, and somehow ended up in my basket.

please don’t tell marshall i spent over $100 on shoes today.. oh crap, he reads the blog…

snack: fudge think thin bar. new to me.

IMG_1589

i didn’t hate this.

IMG_1593

in fact, i really kind of loved it.

IMG_1687IMG_1689

the nutrition stats are great, the ingredients kinda iffy. i guess you can’t win ‘em all. i will buy this again. FYI, they are on sale at smith’s right now. $1.25.

this just in: i can’t find my passport.

image

seeing as how i am going to mexico in a few months (oh yeah, i didn’t tell you guys that, but i am).. this is a real problem. pray for me.

sunday night, i baked danica’s banana nut pumpkin muffins.

on monday, i came home to this:

image

that would be an empty silicone muffin pan. on the floor. penny & randy ATE THE WHOLE BATCH.

rascals.

dinner: balsamic meatball spinach salad with heirloom cherry tomatoes & broccoli.

IMG_1664

those leftover meatballs are really versatile!

IMG_1662

i drizzled it in one of my favorite dressings.

IMG_1660IMG_1661

yum.

IMG_1667

today is national deviled egg day.

IMG_1679

too bad i didn’t have my recently purchased hard boiled egg gadget to use today! i just boiled some eggs the old fashioned way. i did use this awesome egg timer that my mom got us.

IMG_1672

worked like a charm.

IMG_1674

i made my deviled eggs using fat free nasoya nayonaise, which is a soy based spread that is alternative to mayonnaise.

IMG_1676

check out the nutrition stats:

image

i like what i see.

nayonaise is vegan, all natural, gluten free, egg free and cholesterol free. woooo!

i use nayonaise in chicken, tuna and egg salads. i bet it would be awesome in potato salad, too. and, obviously, it is great for deviled eggs.

IMG_1680

i think nayonaise tastes great. i have been purchasing and using it for over a year now. nasoya recently contacted me asking if i would like to try nayonaise free of charge—to which i replied with an enthusiastic, “I ALREADY USE IT AND LOVE IT!”

nasoya was thrilled. they sent me some coupons to use (here is my disclosure) and offered to let me give away some free coupons to my readers, so that’s where you come in. if you are interested in winning some nasoya coupons, leave a comment letting me know. it’s just that easy.

well, that is all i have for random rambles. hope you’ve enjoyed my nonsense Smile

Qs~

1. what do you think of “toning” shoes: flip flops, sneakers and now boots?!

2. tell me something random about your day.

don’t forget to let me know if you want to win those coupons!

xo. janetha g.

Jessie November 2, 2010 at 11:30 pm

I’d love to try nasoya! And I love those dark brown boots..

edenseats November 2, 2010 at 11:34 pm

Janetha, as random as this was I absolutely love this post!
I am curious about the think thin bars and nayonaise so thanks for you take on them.

speaking of eggs and random, I hardboiled a carton (I do all at once for the week) and they were ALL twin yolks! It kind of freaky, maybe its a sign I’m gonna have twins one day (which will not be a shocker since my mom is a twin).

Toning shoes look a little ridic to me. They look really chunky on me two cause I have teeny feet. I dont need a gym in my shoe, thank you.

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:49 pm

Twin yolks? Like, two in an egg?! Never seen that!

Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) November 3, 2010 at 4:46 pm

I have once… it’s VIERD! I ate it anyway :)

Ezzie November 2, 2010 at 11:42 pm

I would love to give nayonaise a shot! I haven’t had real mayo in forever; I sorta forgot about it! :0 But now that I’m reminded, I’m craving some of my aunt’s delicious potato salad! :p

purplebirdblog November 2, 2010 at 11:44 pm

I think toning shoes are *cough*bullshit*cough.

I spent a lot of time in the ER with my roommate today because she saw some flashes of light and had hand numbness. Turns out it was just an atypical migraine. *whew!* Also, I voted. AND I saw my senior picture for the first time. Weird, I know, especially considering that was 8 years ago. It’s on my blog if you wanna see.

And I definitely want to try Nasoya! (Randomly) Pick me! :)

purplebirdblog November 2, 2010 at 11:45 pm

Make that 10 years ago. Brain no likey math at almost 1 in the morning.

Mackenzie November 2, 2010 at 11:55 pm

I would love to try Nasoya! I have tried to find it at Whole Foods, but have not been able to! Where do you buy yours??

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:50 pm

They have it at Whole Foods, Sunflower Market and Smith’s Marketplace.

Meg November 3, 2010 at 12:19 am

Your first random sentence had me snickering. I never thought to count the number of swipes.

The most random thing about today was I dissected a sheep brain at school. It was pretty neat!

p.s. Hunter says thank you for the compliments.

heather November 3, 2010 at 12:28 am

Thinkthin bars are my favorite! I usually have about 20 on hand just in case. I would love to try some Nayonaise. It looks quite interesting.

Robyn November 3, 2010 at 2:40 am

So I totally count swipes of deodorant too! So glad to hear (read) I’m no the only one :)
I love Think Thin bars…the creamy and crunchy peanut butter are both delicious!
I’d love to try Nasoya! I’m already plotting secretly subbing it for mayo and seeing if my hubby notices!

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Well, he WOULD notice. Marshall absolutely hates Nayonaise. It is a good alternative to mayo, but it doesn’t taste like mayo.

Sandy November 3, 2010 at 3:02 am

I don’t count the swipes as much as I count the clicks on the wheel…I just swipe until it’s gone. I totally get the balance thing.

I have been looking for the Nayonaise since you mentioned it awhile back. I LOVE me some mayo…REAL mayo, not the salad dressing stuff…but I keep it out of my house cause it is sooo bad for you and I’m not thrilled with the low fat stuff. So yeah baby…I would be happy to try the nayonaise and bring back my mayo/nanner sandwich which I have been suspiciously craving lately.

Cheers,
Sandy

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:52 pm

Mayo and banana?! Wild! I wouldn’t put it past myself, though. Nayonaise doesn’t taste like mayo.. but I like it!

Jennie November 3, 2010 at 3:12 am

I’d love to try nayonaise in my chicken salads and tuna salads! Janetha, thanks for hosting such a great giveaway!

kayla November 3, 2010 at 3:16 am

in my honest opinion, i think toning shoes are RIDICULOUS and HIDEOUS! haha…sorry. i just had to get that out!

today i baked cupcakes…before leaving for work :)

kayla November 3, 2010 at 3:17 am

ohh…and i’d very much looove to win those coupons! i’ve never tried nasoya before but am very interested in the product!

Jae November 3, 2010 at 3:53 am

Id love to try nasoya!

Presley November 3, 2010 at 3:55 am

Nayonaise? It would be nice to try a good alternative to mayo…. But it would be even nicer to try it with a coupon! Any by the way, I am jealous of your calves. I walk around on toothpicks everyday. Seriously, I think the circumference of my calves is equal to that of a four year old :(

Heather November 3, 2010 at 4:30 am

I’ve been thinking a lot about trying the Nayonaise. I don’t really use mayo all that much but when I do I always think of spooning large amounts of fat into whatever I’m making. Haha! …actually, maybe that’s why I don’t use it all that often! ;) I’m glad to hear that it tastes decent. I would love a coupon to try it myself.

Omg, I totally hate all those stupid toning shoes! They are taking over the world. I work in a hospital, so I see them ALL the time. They even have the guys wearing them now. I can’t believe the boots now…course I couldn’t believe they made the sandal flip-flop thingys either. Geez!

As for my something random…I don’t count my deodorant swipes, but when I hang up my laundry, the item has to face me and the hanger hook HAS to point left. If it goes on the other way, I have to turn it around! I know, totally weird! ;)

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:53 pm

ME TOO! Me too, me too, me too! “Hook to the left!” I always remind Marshall.

Lauren November 3, 2010 at 4:39 am

Sorry to hear about all of the bumps and bruises. It seems like if you have one clumsy day, you have at least two more to follow. Well at least I do. I think it’s actually a good day if I don’t run into something. ;)

LoL, Oh that Penny! Somehow she gets all the good stuff!

lindsay November 3, 2010 at 4:46 am

how do you like the egg cooker? I really want to buy it but wanted to make sure it really worked first. Its almost too good to be true, ya know? haha.
Time to renew the passport with a new name anyway. I think you can go online and submit your SS# to retrieve your info. Then send a new pic and last name. I gotta do that too!

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:54 pm

Well I just ordered it yesterday but when I get it I will let you know how I like it. It had great reviews on the website. The egg timer thing I used to judge my hard boiled eggs the old fashioned way worked like a charm! Those are $5 at kitchen stores.

coffeeandthepaper November 3, 2010 at 4:51 am

Girl you have some shexy calves! Rock it! (I love the “exhibit B” boots)

I think “toning” shoes are hilarious. They remind me of those “wheelies” that kids used to wear.

As for your passport…that sucks! I would definitely apply (don’t know if that’s the right word) for a new one now so you’re not in a bind later. Maybe the original will turn up, but either way you’ll be prepared.

Erica November 3, 2010 at 5:04 am

I want that egg cooker! That thing sounds like it rocks. I love exhibit A…I need those, now. You’re making me want to go shopping haha. I am making Josh meatballs tonight. I enjoy making him a big batch and using them in different ways (just like you!).

1. what do you think of “toning” shoes: flip flops, sneakers and now boots?! I’m ok with the sneakers..the others, really?

2. tell me something random about your day. Mandi and I had a breakfast meeting at Charleston’s Cafe and I got egg beaters and a sweet potato biscuit

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:55 pm

OMG, no parfait?!

April November 3, 2010 at 5:14 am

Hee hee…because April told you too :)

Marisa @ Loser for Life November 3, 2010 at 5:20 am

I love Nasoya products! Would love to try the Nayonaise!

Fitboots are just plain weird.

Love the boots you bought! I gotta head to Target!

Erika November 3, 2010 at 5:20 am

Those toning shoes just get me mad. I mean, its so stupid, and people actually believe they can “lose weight and tone their butt and thighs” just by wearing these shoes. I say, use the money for a gym membership instead. ;-)

mayapamela November 3, 2010 at 5:20 am

Nayonaise! That’s kinda fun to say. I can’t remember the last time I had a deviled egg! So retro. It’s kind of funny to use eggless mayonnaise to stuff an egg! Thanks for the Target tip, I SOOO need boots! I forsee a trip in my near future.

Heather November 3, 2010 at 5:33 am

Haha!! I’m so accident prone, too. Just yesterday I hit my head on the door of the car on accident (and Jay was filming what I was doing right at that time!!!).
Cute boots, sister!

Carrie November 3, 2010 at 5:44 am

Never had Nayonaise and have been wanting to try it! (Love your boots btw. Makes me want to make a Target run!)

Katie November 3, 2010 at 5:47 am

I would love some coupons! I was wanting to make some vegan “chicken” salad, and some Nasoya would be perfect!

Talia @ Texas Gunslinger November 3, 2010 at 5:54 am

Oh mitochondria! Those boots are SO CUTE! The first pic with the are sorta-kinda scrunchy boots- I just GOTTA have those!!! And, I, too, have wider calves. It makes it difficult to buy boots and that is not so fun. I think you and I are similar in that we are a) both shorties, b) have athletic/muscluar builds and c) cute as a button! ;)

Also, that egg timer is so cool! I always want to make hard-boiled eggs, but am impatient and don’t want to wait for them to boil, so I scramble them. I either need to work on my patience (pffft!) or get one of those to microwave;)

Hope you find your passport. Otherwise, like Lindsey said (above) you probably need to get a new one with your NEW name! That’s always fun. I know I “upgraded” when I got a new last name, so I was happy HAHAHA!

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine November 3, 2010 at 5:55 am

My mom has toning flip flops, and let me tell you, at 5’4″ and 105 pounds, she does NOT need them. Plus they look silly…but far be it for me to tell her that, haha.

Girl your calves are BUILT and that’s a GOOD thing!! Woo calf muscles :)

I love Nasoyaise mixed with apple cider vinegar and agave as a “slaw” type dressing. So good.

Katie November 3, 2010 at 6:10 am

Toning shoes look ridiculous and don’t work… So why would I torture my body with them? They can’t be too good for your body! And coupons please :) Broke hungry college student here ;)

Heather (Where's the Beach) November 3, 2010 at 6:59 am

What?? Those boots are at Target???

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:56 pm

Yep.. and cheap too!

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) November 3, 2010 at 7:06 am

love those target shoes. i got a great pair of boots for my hefty muscular calves!

as for toning shoes… bs. I think they can do more harm than good. Get yourself to the gym.

random… hmm… i missed my bus by 10 seconds last night after boot camp and had to wait like a half an hour for the next one to come. Fail.

xo
Kris

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:57 pm

Ohh, what brand are they? I am always in the market!

ros November 3, 2010 at 7:07 am

I think toning shoes are silly.
I wore two different colored socks today. :)
And yes I would like a coupon.

Graze With Me November 3, 2010 at 7:09 am

I’ve never tried Nayonaise but have always been intrigued. The stats *are* pretty great!

BTW – the deodorant thing makes me giggle. I count stairs whenever I go up or down a flight, which my husband finds weird. I can’t carry on a conversation when on a staircase since it interferes with my tally. ;)

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:58 pm

Yep, I am a stair counter, too! I take it to another level and if there are 8 stairs, I then walk the rest of the way in increments of 8. Like I walk down some stairs going to my car.. 8 steps.. Then I have to make it to my car in increments of 8 steps.. so sometimes I have to take smaller or larger steps to hit that increment. I am crazy.

Green Dog Wine November 3, 2010 at 7:13 am

Um yeah, I TOTALLY count the swipes on my deadorant :) I’m with you! :)

Di November 3, 2010 at 7:27 am

I count swipes. I never realized it until I thought about it this morning.

I’ve tried toning shoes and to be honest, I don’t feel like they’re doing anything.

Michelle November 3, 2010 at 7:35 am

I’d love to try nayonaise. It sounds like a healthy and tasty alternative to the classic mayo.

You know what I read about just last night?! Toning pants! I’m not kidding. Reebok is now selling toning pants that have built in resistence bands to provide resistence when you move. I don’t buy it. It all just seems too good to be true.

Oh and I count swipes too, haha!

ihearteggs November 3, 2010 at 7:36 am

I think I’d much rather just go to the gym and work my butt off than wait for a pair of overpriced shoes to do it for me. lol

Anne November 3, 2010 at 7:41 am

I’ve seen Nayonaise in the store, but have been scared to try it! I’d love to score some coupons for it!! (And thanks for looking out for all us girls with big calves – those are some cute boots!)

natalie (the sweets life) November 3, 2010 at 7:45 am

haha now I’m going to feel compelled to count my deodorant swipes!

I’m so craving meatballs now…adding that to a menu plan soon!

Love those boots, esp the first pair!

Count me in for coupons!

LG November 3, 2010 at 7:49 am

I would be interested in the nayonaise coupons…wonder what that tastes like.

Random thing: I bumped into the same woman twice on the train to work today. Whoops!

GetHealthyWithHeather November 3, 2010 at 8:01 am

What a cool microwave egg cooker! I’m pretty sure I always overcook my hard boiled eggs… I don’t like runny yolks one bit.

Megan November 3, 2010 at 8:01 am

I’ve wanted to try Nayonaise for a while now but have been skeptical. I’m pretty picky about mayo and haven’t wanted to fork out the extra bucks for the Nayo. I’d love to win some coupons to try it out!

Marg November 3, 2010 at 8:19 am

I love both of the boots you ordered. I would love it if they did work, but don’t believe it.

Leah November 3, 2010 at 8:19 am

We use the vegannaise brand for chickpea “tuna” salad and to go on my husband’s sandwiches, but Nayonnaise isn’t at our local grocery store so we haven’t tried it (yet!). Coupons would be a great excuse to travel to Whole Foods or elsewhere to try it out!

Allison W November 3, 2010 at 8:21 am

I’d like to try Nayonaise. I don’t even know what its made of! Toning shoes are good in theory…but I tried some on, and they looked incredibly ridiculous.

janetha November 3, 2010 at 12:59 pm

It is soy based :)

Danielle November 3, 2010 at 8:28 am

Ooooh I’ve been wanting to try Nayonaise for awhile now, but I admit am intimidated by it LOL.

janae@hungryrunnergirl.com November 3, 2010 at 8:28 am

You make me laugh so hard!! I am glad your hard-boiled eggs turned out good! I love buying random kitchen tools:) Something random is when I put my pants on yesterday I didn’t realize that a tank top was stuck in one of the pant legs until half-way through the day. I felt bulgy for some reason but I was too tired to figure out why.

janetha November 3, 2010 at 1:00 pm

OHHH my gosh, I have done that.. except with underwear! So embarrassing, but SO funny!

Kate November 3, 2010 at 8:28 am

I want to win a nasoya coupon!

Also – I just tried a Think Thin bar for the first time too! I tried the chunky peanut butter one – it was pretty good, not great though. They actually have regular peanut butter one as well, which seems weird because the ‘chunky’ one didn’t really have any chunks. Anyway – they are actually one sale at Whole Foods for $1.25 and there deal magazine you get at the front of the store has a $.50 off coupon!

janetha November 3, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Thanks for the tip!

tj November 3, 2010 at 8:56 am

Ouch! I can relate to the clumsiness….my nickname is booboo :)

Cute shoes…and all from Target WOW! :)

lisaou11 November 3, 2010 at 8:58 am

here’s the most random thing I can think about my day yesterady…

I’m getting so used to the cadavers and hearts in my anatomy lab that I realized I had picked up the heart with no gloves on. Eeks :)
