is it just me, or does time go by faster the older we get?
when i was a kid, time went by sooo s-l-o-w!!
the school year was never ending and when summer finally came, each day seemed to be 50 hours long.
not the case anymore. i could’ve sworn i was celebrating the new year just yesterday.
do you wonder what i am eluding to?
as of today, july 7, i have been engaged for 5 months.
jamaica – february 7, 2010.
you can read about the proposal here.
rewind 5 months. we decided to get married in july. this is because:
a) summer weddings are the jam
b) we didn’t want to wait until summer 2011
c) we wanted to buy a house before the $8000 tax credit thing went away
yes, those were all reasons. by the end of our trip in jamaica, we had set july 17, 2010 as our wedding date.
here was my thought process: “we have a little over five months. that is plenty of time to do everything! i will start early and get a little done at a time and by the time july rolls around it will all be done and i will just have to wait for the day to arrive!”
hahahaha.
fast forward to today.
let’s just say i work well under pressure. there is still so much to do in the next 9 days (yet i am blogging…)
how about a trip down memory lane? now, a lot has happened in the last 5 months, so i can’t mention them all.. but here are some month-by-month highlights!
february: engaged in jamaica
march: booked a venue
april: bought a house & decided to renovate the whole dang thing
may: got our engagement photos taken
june: got my bridal photos taken
AND NOW IT IS JULY! in the blink of a freaking eye.
and i have 9 days, 2 hours, 44 minutes and 47 seconds until my wedding day.
yikes.
breakfast was muesli+almond milk+mighty maple.
i was too lazy to go into the conference room (where i usually take my photos while at work.. for the natural lighting) so this photo was taken at my desk. see that pink paw in the background?
i got this when mable died. it really is an imprint of her paw!
i poured the almond milk into the muesli and stuck it in the fridge for about an hour while i worked and sucked down my iced coffee. an hour is all you need to get the perfect consistency!
mighty maple peanut butter for staying power.
let’s not talk about my doctor’s appointment that was at 10:15 AM or the blood that was drawn, k? thanks.
got back from the doc at 12:45 and immediately had to go to a meeting.
so let’s not talk about the fact that i didn’t eat anything between the hours of 9 AM and 3 PM.. AND that there was blood drawn between those hours.
ugh.
as soon as i was out of my meeting i literally inhaled an apple. braeburn, for the record.
once i got to my house i whipped up a coffee protein frosty and had no desire to take a photo. you can pretend i did and just look at this photo and tint it a little brownsh because i used coffee instead of almond milk.
once the hunger beast was somewhat tamed, i got my camera out and took a photo of part 2 of whatever meal you want to call this.
sprouted wheat bread (toasted)+laughing cow cheese+an egg
you may find this strange, but to make my egg, i simply crack it into a bowl, pour about 2 TB water in with the egg and microwave it for a minute. the result is an over-hard egg! super simple. then i mash the egg up over my toast.
tasty.
then i was off!!
insert 4 hours of errands here.
four hours of errands = cranky janetha b.
i did get a lot done. i don’t want to talk about it.. but i can promise you i got my 10,000 steps in for the day. cross my heart.
i came home and made dinner!
first i diced some tofu that had been in my tofuXpress for a the 4 hours i was erranding (yes i just made that word up)..
then i slathered butter in a skillet (because i am out of pam) and threw the tofu in the skillet. i then drizzled the tofu with extra virgin olive oil and this:
everyday seasoning! i use it every day!
i also steamed some veggies..
threw in a can of diced tomatoes..
and a generous pour of this sauce:
tofu went in the pot!
mixed it all up and called it delicious.
and it was.
that everyday seasoning from trader joe’s is really flavorful. highly recommend it. no, we don’t have a TJ’s here in utah.. but i bet you can recruit someone to mail you some if needs be.
i just licked my bowl clean and am contemplating seconds….
hey, whatever works to help me procrastinate packing my house up for the move, right?
guest post thursday tomorrow! i have a VERY special person lined up. check back!
talk to you guys friday :)
Qs~
1. to the married/engaged folk: how long was/is your engagement? five months, ten days. many have told me this is too short. but i am happy that we didn’t make it longer. i can’t wait to be a mrs!
2. what errand do you hate the most? i HATE returning purchases. hate hate hate. i usually end up keeping whatever it is i need to return because i loathe the returning process so much that i put it off and then it is too late to return whatever said item is. i currently have 13 picture frames, 2 necklaces, 1 shirt, 1 dress and a partridge in a pear tree to return to various stores. ok, maybe not the partridge.. but everything else.

We were engaged for a year and a month, but we dated for 4.5 years before that.
Don’t stress (I know that is ridiculous to say, but seriously…) because it will all work out. And remember to ask for help!
I saw your profile pic on Facebook. GORGEY GORGEY GORGEY!!!! YOU ARE SO PERTY!
Again, your bridal pics look gorgeous! So exciting to see it all coming to life :-) And you were a smart-cookie to go for the shorter engagement – why think/stress about something for a year+
We eloped :-) and are celebrating ten years in a month …
I hate any errands when I have my kiddies in tow … it always ends in drama. I enjoy ANY errand when I am alone.
PS – Love the quick egg tip! Never have seen that one … it’s a keeper!
I am SOOO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that tofu meal looks OUTSTANDING.
love you so my mama!!!!
Time really does fly! 1) I’m far from engaged/married but I envision myself being engaged for a long while before actually go through with it. 2) Going to the post office.. or really anything that guarantees that I’ll be waiting in line for a long time.
Your bridal photos are beautiful!
I’m with you- time is slipping away like nothing else right now, but I’m starting to get used to it- I think that’s life!
Tyler and I will have been engaged for almost 19 months when we get married.
I’m so excited for you! Well and for me too, yikes!
Can’t wait to see how things turn out!
1. I’ve been with my man for almost 4 years with no ring but I’m in no rush..
2. I spend too much time looking for the best deal when it comes to errands and probably end
up spending more $ on gas..and I agree on the post office!
That 4 cheese Classico sauce is the ONLY canned sauce I will eat that is tasty!
Time does fly by faster nowadays and I don’t like it one bit! CONGRATS on the upcoming wedding!!! :)
We were engaged for 6 months and kind of rushed things so we could move in together. I regret it a teeny tiny bit because I didn’t get to enjoy being a “bride-to-be” it was all work and stress.
You look like a model in those pictures! You should have been on the latest version of America’s Next Top Model because it was a short girl round :)
LOVE your bridals! I was engaged 18 months and it still seemed like a rush to get things done at the end. So excited for you!
Time does fly!!! I’m sure everything will come together and your day will be beautiful, amazing and everything you dreamed!
Aahh your bridal photos are GORGEOUS! Lovely!! xx
You look so beautiful in your dress xx
I love the photos! Darling, so darling.
My least favorite errand is getting my oil changed. I hate having to wait while they do it and they come out and try to tell me all these things my car needs that it doesn’t. Just change my damn oil, fill up my washer fluid and put air in my tires. CHRIST ON A CHEESE CRACKER!
Hey girl! I cannot believe you’re still blogging (I say this all the time)- you are ah-mazing! I had to get blood drawn yesterday too! For some reason, it left me feeling yucky all day long. Coffee protein mix? I gotta do this. And love your egg on toast. I’m thinking its a brinner night for sure. That TJs everyday mix is my favorite- I used it in our dinner last night. I am buying tofu this weekend and cannot wait to test out my press. I have a feeling I will get hooked. Josh and I were engaged for almost a year and a half! And my least favorite chore…..I hate emptying the trash cans around the house. I have no idea why- its not hard…I just hate doing it!
Almost there!
I hate that time flies, and it really does.
We were engaged for about 8 months!
its been 5 months?? AHHH, thats crazy! Life just blows by us. I HATE HATE returning stuff and I HATE HATE trying stuff on. I just buy it then ask my husband to return if it doesn’t fit, hehe. He’s sweet like that.
You look stunning…..can’t wait to see pics of the real day!
AWww sweet heart! It sounds like you are a bit stressed! Don’t worry, totally normal! Things are getting a little intense right now but don’t you worry, it will all be okay. I promise you this from the bottom on my heart!
Oh real quick….you look absolutely breathtaking in your bridal pictures. Gosh, I can only imagine how unbelievable you are going to look on your wedding day!!!
Okay, so we were engaged for 1 1/2 years but only because we wanted to finish college, save for a house, and get jobs first. It actually worked out beautifully and I am happy that we waited, but at the time, I wanted to just jump into it right out of high school!! We had been together since 10th grade but waiting until after we graduated college was definitely the right choice!
Okay, worst errand ever is getting gas! Hate hate hate!!!
Yes, the time is flying by! I want it to stop :(
Your bridals are ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! WOW!
Love your tofu dish!
Wow its been five months? That did fly back. I really do hate how quick times as you age, it just blows.
I looooove returning stuff-mostly b.c I know I will be getting money back. I hate going for gas, I’m a frugal girl so I cross the state line into SC b.c its $.25 cheaper a gallon but always found getting gaS annoying.
We were engaged for 15 months, but only because of timing – like you, we wanted a summer wedding but since we had gotten engaged in March, didn’t feel like we could pull together a wedding in 3 months, so we pushed it back a year. I don’t think 5 months is too short; you just have to be organized (which you are!).
Favorite errand is grocery shopping!
Dude that pasta sauce is LEGIT!!! Ha my roommate and I bought a huge 4 jar-pack thing from Costco, we are def on Jar #4, and everytime we use we are like, “i could just eat this with a spoon straight from the jar…” And i’m pretty sure the only thing stopping us is feared judgment from the other ;D
My husband and I went on our first date in April of 2001, we were engaged about 6 weeks later and we got married August 25, 2001. Fast, yes, worth it, 100%!!! We are celebrating 9 years next month :)

Your bridal pictures are beautiful. :)
My least favorite errand is whichever one involves me going out of my way (like shipping a package, when I don’t have a shipping place very close).
Your bridal photos are gorg! My husband and I got married one year to the day after he proposed. We didn’t plan it that way, and actually didn’t even realize that was the case until our “anniversary” was approaching and we realized it was our upcoming wedding date! I don’t really mind running errands, but household chores? Ugh. I just smile sweetly at my husband on trash day – works every time.
Our engagement was only 2 days! We decided to elope, he “proposed”, and then we flew to Hawaii and got married 2 days later! I felt the same way though, couldnt wait to be (his) Mrs!
I hear you on the time restraints! SO much to do, SO little time!!
Your bridal photos look beautiful!! Is that how you’re doing your hair? Mine is SO similar except I have a flower in it :D
I have been looking at that everyday seasoning at TJ’s every time I have been there… guess I should grab it next time I’m in the states!
Ummm, my engagement is going to be about 3 months!! SO soon after!
I hate returning things as well… but NOTHING is worse than the DMV. I have to go this year, ON my birthday to get it renewed. Because it’s the only day I will be home when the DMV is open. Booo…
Good luck with the next 9 days of planning!
xo
Kris
All that you’ve had going on recently sounds about right! I remember very clearly 2 weeks before my wedding doing all that running around (and major stressing, thus resulting in breakout #2 of shingles). You’re doing great though and I think a 5 month engagement is great. We were engaged for 14 months before getting married, primarily because we wanted to wait until Chris finished his residency. It was a loooooong engagement and I was SO ready by the time the wedding came around!
You look SO BEAUTIFUL in your bridal portraits! I only had engagement pics done, but I’m ok with that. Anyway, you look gorgeous. :)
I’d have to agree with you on returning items, but I hate grocery shopping too. I feel like I’m there EVERY DAMN DAY!!
9 days!!! WAH WAH WEE WAH!!!
Wow, dinner looks fantastic. Love that you have a paw print of Mable. I would give anything for a print of my first girl Abby. I love that picture of you by the blue wall gorgeous. My husband and I were engaged for about 6 months.
I can’t believe you planned a wedding in so little time! And you look gorgeous in those bridal photos, I hope you post more.
Oh my gosh your big day is so close! YAY!
I actually kind of like errands…except when it’s raining in the city…not fun at all! If I had to pick one painful errand it would have to be the post office…lines lines and more lines!
i was engaged for 6 months. i was busy but it’s totally do-able (is that a word?!). We didn’t need to have that short of an engagement but when you find the person you want to be with forever, why wait? I found my dress in a matter of 2 weeks and a florist at 1 month. The details towards the end were tedious at times, but everything went off without a hitch. I loved every moment and it was perfect for us! Congrats to you both! Enjoy the moments :) xo
Yayyy I’m so so happy for you and Marshall! I absolutely cannot WAIT to read the recap and see pictures of your wedding. I have no doubt you two will throw Utah’s party of the year. I know you’re stressing, but remember, the day is about YOU AND MARSHALL. Just keep that in mind and know that all that matters in the end is that you will be married!!
And really, thank you so, so much Janetha, for all your kind comments about my stepbrother. It really means more to me than I can say <3
How exciting..super jealous!!! I have been with my BF for 2 years..maybe one day I will get engaged.
As far as errands I hate having to drive far..doesn’t matter what errand it is..but I hate having to drive clear to Salt Lake city or anywhere more than 30 miles LOL
We were engaged for 10 months – but we lived togehter for 5 years before we got engaged. Hard to believe that Jeff and I have been together for 12 years now! My husband rocks!
Love, love love your bridal portraits! You look b-e-a-utiful!
My sweet hubby and I were engaged fro 7 months before our beautiful wedding day! Luckily my mama is SUPER WOMAN and helped make it possible to have a perfect day just in time! We celebrated our One Year Ano this past April. Love being married to my very best (HOT!) friend HAHA! You will love being a MRS:)
Have a great day!
Talia:)
We were engaged for 9 months, but dated a little over 3 yrs, and had lived together a little over 2 years. Now we’ve been married a year and 7 months and together a little over 5 years. And expecting a little one in December! Oh how time FLIES!! :)
you look STUNNING in your wedding photos! wow…i cant wait to see you on the day off!!! time really does FLY so so so fast, I just felt like it was new years and now its almost august?!?! whats up with that!! i am so freakin excited for you and marshall!
the tofu dinner looks delicious, sort of like a tofu caccitore! i love it…def too dang hot to have a hot meal like that but when it cools down a bit I want to give that a shot! i bet it would ROCK with a laughing cow wedge atop it!
errand I hate the most would be hmmmmm probably retunring clothes! because I always want to shop too, but im going to return and i try to just keep it to that! I LOVE going grocery shopping and to cvs!
love you! oh and I am not married or engaged :)
Question1 doesn’t really apply to me because we just decided to get married and then went to the courthouse and did it :) well I guess we decided two/three weeks before so maybe that was my “engagement”.
I HATE doing laundry. Hate it. The end.
wow that really is crazy that it has already been 5 months….it feels like just yesterday you told us all about the engagement! Good luck with everything and *try* to BREATH! Everything will turn out wonderfully. :D
OMG I can’t believe your getting married in 10 days! I was engaged for a year. It was nice though, I could take lots of time planning. Love the engagement pics you look absolutely amazing your photographer did a great job! So where in the valley did you buy your house? It looks like things are coming together! Good luck with the rest of your house stuff and upcoming nuptuials!! -Hailey- :)
We were engaged for 1 year, 4 months and 5 days. And I was still stressed!!! But that’s my own fault, I procrastinated. The good part was that we paid each part of the wedding in full before it happened so we had no debt to worry about.
I hate going to the “regular” grocery store for the stuff Dave needs (frozen meals, granola bars, body wash, shampoo…) it’s such a pain having to go to 2 or sometimes 3 different grocery stores +Target!
We were engaged for 7 LONG LONG months. I say long because we, eh, “saved ourselves” for marriage and boy does THAT make time slow down!!! We had to get married in October instead of August because my BIL and his wife got engaged around the same time and booked August first. Rats! :0)
Your bridal photo looks amazing! So classy and beautiful!!! So excited for you guys.
Can’t think of errands that I don’t really like, except maybe anything having to do with drivers licence renewal. Oh, and name changes when I got married – that was a hassle! I love returning stuff because it means that $$ goes back into my account. :0)
PS After our wedding was over and we got to our hotel room, I sat on the bed and just cried tears of relief. It was such a fun day but I was so happy to be able to kick back and relax on our honeymoon after all of that wedding work was done!
Wow! It’s so weird looking back at all of those things! I remember them and time really does fly! So much has happened for you and it’s so exciting! :) BTW you look gorgeous in your bridal photos!
I hate errands that aren’t close to my house. I feel like I’m wasting gas, which equals wasting money, which equals poorER college student. Your dinner looks delicious – I’m always looking for something quick and easy so I might try it!
Congrats on your upcoming wedding and BELATED congratulations on your engagement!
-Kati @ beautyandafeast
I love the top 2 engagement pics of yours! so pretty!
LOVE the photo against the blue wall! Stunning.
1. I’m certainly not engaged or even in a relationship, but I can’t imagine I’d want my engagement to last more than 6 months.
2. As far as running errands, it’s so annoying having to pick up my thyroid prescription every few weeks. Oh, and contacts. Appts. are so annoying! :)
I didn’t actually have a proposal, I guess we decided on getting married sometime in the winter. We told people at Christmas. We got married in July.
Your bridal photos are beautiful! I especially love the one with the blue wall. Your expression and the fact that you can see your scar makes it look so cool. :]
