HOLA!
made it through another monday! only five more mondays until my honeymoon. yes, i am counting down the mondays! and actually one of those mondays i have off from work because it is the 5th of july and my office “observes” the 4th of july that day since the 4th lands on a sunday this year.
that was all very important information that you desperately needed to know. i am aware of this.
thank you so much to those of you who informed me about the website mapmyrun.com. i think i am the last person on earth to discover it and i think it is going to make my distance measuring much easier! so gracias, amigas! i mapped my run from yesterday and was pleased to see that it was right on the money in comparison to my drive-the-course method. woohoo!
today was pretty typical! let’s dive right in since i have nothing clever to say.
meal 1: eggbeaters & oats & coffee. @ 8:30 AM
i <3 cholula.
nothing new to see. just another bowl of oatmeal, like you saw on 2,346 other blogs today. and i am sure their bowls were much more exciting and adorned with fruit/nut butter/flax/chia/etc. sorry folks. my oatmeal got two things and two things only:
sugar free syrup (i use about 1/3 of that little container.. so not much) and a LOT of cinnamon. not quite the whole jar.. but close to it ;)
back to the office!
it was just another manic monday at the work and before i knew it, the time was 1 PM! and i realized i left my bag-o-food in my automobile all day. roar. it was a scorcher outside today so i knew my greek yogurt was doomed.
i ended up having to toss all 16 ounces of greek yogurt. bummer. it was all hot and runny and disgustingly non-edible. i did, however, manage to salvage the salad. it was just a little warm and i don’t think warm salad ever hurt anyone. at least not that i know of.
meal 2: salad+1/2 cup cottage cheese+1 TB sunflower seed butter & 2 fiber wasa crackers @ 1 PM
who said you can’t put sunflower seed butter on a salad?
this was delicious but ridiculously hard to eat because there was not a fork to be found in the office. so i ate it with a spoon. turns out i have 17 metal spoons at work and zero forks. ‘ve been using the plastic forks anytime i needed one (bad, i know) but today they were all gone! note to self: bring forks to work.
salad is not easy to eat with a spoon.
moving on.
i needed a snack before the gym. originally it was going to be the greek yogurt but then it was tainted from sitting in my hot car all day. so i went with plan B.
meal 3: 100 grand candy bar protein bar @ 4:30 PM
these taste like candy. they can’t be a good snack option, can they?
oh well. their ratios are balanced and their ingredients are not funky. i am going to consider them a good “plan B” option. even though they taste like candy.
yum.
lower body workout day!
my favorite! yahoo! i love working out my lower body. am i a weirdo? yes. but that is beside the point.
this was a make-up-as-you-go workout.. i did 6 different circuits and each circuit contained 3 exercises. i did each circuit 3 times through before going onto the next. DEETS:
5 minute / 0.5 mile treadmill warmup:
| minute # | speed |
| 0-1 | 5 mph |
| 1-2 | 5.5 mph |
| 2-3 | 6 mph |
| 3-4 | 6.5 mph |
| 4-5 | 7 mph |
for the weight portion of the workout, i tried some new moves that i stole from susan! if you ever need fresh, new ideas.. check her blog out. she rocks. i marked the new-to-me moves with a *
circuit 1:
| move | weight | reps | sets |
| good mornings* | 40# barbell | 15 | 3 |
| front squat push press* | 25# barbell | 15 | 3 |
| bosu bicycle crunch | body weight | 15 each side, consecutive | 3 |
circuit 2:
| move | weight | reps | sets |
| dumbbell squat on bosu | 15# ea (30# total) | 15 | 3 |
| jump over bosu side lunges | body weight | 15 each way, alternating | 3 |
| ball crunches | 10# | 30 | 3 |
circuit 3:
| move | weight | reps | sets |
| donkey kicks | body weight | 15 each leg | 3 |
| bosu ball supermans* | body weight | 15 | 3 |
| stability ball pass | body weight | 15 | 3 |
circuit 4:

| bridge w/ feet on bosu* | 10# | 30 | 3 |
| one legged squat | body weight | 15 each leg | 3 |
circuit 5:
| move | weight | reps | sets |
| cable hip adduction* | 10# | 15 | 3 |
| cable hip abduction* | 10# | 15 | 3 |
| cable glute kickbacks* | 10# | 15 each leg | 3 |
circuit 6:
| move | weight | reps | sets |
| cable horizontal woodchopper (left) | 25# | 15 | 3 |
| cable horizontal woodchopper (right) | 25# | 15 | 3 |
| single leg calf raise | body weight | 15 each side | 3 |
one mile run in 8 min 45 seconds (treadmill):
| minute # | speed |
| 0-1 | 6 mph |
| 1-2 | 6.5 mph |
| 2-3 | 7 mph |
| 3-4 | 7.5 mph |
| 4-5 | 8 mph |
| 5-6 | 6 mph |
| 6-7 | 6.5 mph |
| 7-8 | 7.5 mph |
| 8-8:45 | 8 mph |
the end! i did the mile run at the end to work on my mileage goal, which is right on track. i have to be to 50% by the end of june (halfway through the year) and i am at 44.75% with the majority of june left to get to 50%. awesome.
the entire workout took me an hour and 5 minutes. i didn’t rest at all, but there was time between setting up for each circuit where i caught my breath.. but for the most part it was go, go, go!
i was pretty bent out of shape that i forgot my heart rate monitor because i worked really hard during the workout and i would have liked to see my stats. but i think my shirt post-workout tells you how rough this workout was!
i kind of hate taking photos of myself after i workout because i don’t love seeing photos of other people all sweaty and whatnot so i spared you. but i was pretty astonished at the sweat factor of this workout.. usually i break a sweat but today was bad.
front (not so bad):
back:
ha. i am a goon.
meal 4: protein mocha @ 6:30 PM
this beauty had:
- 3/4 cup cold coffee (french pressed)
- tons of ice
- 1 TB unsweetened cocoa powder
- 30g vanilla protein powder
- xanthan gum
glorious.
i typed this post up and am now about to have a super late dinner, brought to me by other people.
meal 5: leftover tofu soup+added grilled chicken & a side salad with balsamic @ 9:30 PM.
remember the other night when marshall got tofu soup? there were leftovers.
i bulked it up a bit with some grilled chicken.
the chicken came to me from my roommate who works as a chef at a country club. he is always bringing home food!
he also brought home this gorgeous salad. it looks amazing!
yum. free dinner.
and that’s a wrap!
while perusing the interwebs, i found some links to lurk:
- TPW’s malt cookies. i just loved chocolate malts as a kid (still do!) and think these would be incredible.
- is a figure comp for YOU? lindsey’s post is probably the best thing i read all day!
- this will make you laugh. i stole this from susan.. but honestly, what if you saw someone doing this move at the gym?!
oh, and before i go, here is my Bites, Licks & Tastes (and other extras) for monday AKA anything you didn’t see above that passed my lips:
- 2 wedges of canteloupe
- 3 grapes
- 1 slice 50 calorie 9 grain bread (pre workout)
- multivitamin
- 1 gallon of water
- 4 pieces of trident tropical twist gum
today was great in the BLT department!
Qs~
1. what do you put on/in your oatmeal? i ALWAYS put cinnamon in and then i alternate between SF syrup and mighty maple peanut butter. if i don’t have protein on the side, i add protein powder to the oatmeal. i never add fruit/granola/etc because i try to balance my carb/protein ratio and the oats already have 27g carbs as it is. sure *wish* i could be one of those people who can eat a bowl of oats with 937 grams of carbs and get away with it.. sigh.. oh well! i do love my oatmeal the way i make it so it’s no big deal!
2. are you counting down to anything right now? i am. my wedding. 39 days, 2 hours, 1 minute and 4 seconds. (i have a countdown app on my phone =P)

OMG your links were amazing…especially the one about figure prep. For real. Anyways, I’m counting down to my half marathon Aug 15 and then the start of grad school…more in the “holy crap I’m really doing this” sort of thing, for both.
Janetha, that lower body workout is amazing! I want to try out some of the stability ball and bosu ball exercises. Your salad looks awesome – I love the spiral carrots! I almost always add PB and banana to my oats as well as other fruit. I am counting down to my two weeks off in Aug!!
This is going to sound weird, but I find using CHOPSTICKS very convenient when eating salads. You know those limpy leaves at the bottom of your salad that you just can’t fork through? Yeah, use chopsticks.
My current obsession with oatmeal is banana coconut overnight oats, which I prep the night before with half a cup oatmeal, quarter cup soymilk and water, half a mashed banana, 2 tbsp of shredded coconut, 1 tbs flaxseed, and stevia to sweeten. It gets really creamy in the morning, and I top it with half a tbsp of sunbutter (they’re so addicting!) and half a tbsp of nutella (revisiting my childhood love), and VOILA! They taste like banana cream pie I swear!
Sunbutter + cottage cheese is one of my all-time FAVE combos! It’s been my go-to snack since freshman year of college:)
1. I almost always cook my oats in a combination of mashed banana, unsweetened soymilk, stevia, and vanilla extract. The toppings change all the time, but wheat germ and almond butter are some of my faves.
2. I am counting down to Seth’s visit–17 days!
That was a good link to “Is a Figure Comp for You” – whew! can I relate and with 110% honesty, never, ever want to eat like that again. Never ever. I am nervous to find my new “normal” after 23 weeks of having my head wrapped around this. :-/
39 days til wedding, woo hoo!
i’m counting down to the days i start shooting my next film – 4!
haha, you know i like plain oats too :) go us! all that other stuff is too complicated. and honestly, i can’t taste it half the time!
i love free meals too. like when there is someone’s leftovers in the fridge and i just snag it :)
i never wear gray to the gym. i know i will look a MESS afterwards, especially not t-shirts. they have to be sleeveless because, well you know…
What type of protein powder do you use? I need to get some, and I want to make sure I get some that tastes decent.
I’ve never tried to eat a salad with a spoon, I’ll make sure I don’t try now.
I’m a folk lover, I never use spoons actually. I use folks for everything.
I’m countdown the days until I don’t see my builder anymore.
I’m only new to oats, seeing as winter is kicking in here in Australia. I think fruit & yogurt sounds good!
A protein bar that tastes like candy?! I’ve never seen or heard of that brand before! I want!
1. I always have to have some sort of fruit on my oatmeal, and some sort of nut or nut butter :)
2. Vegas! Then a photo shoot to make up for a lack of engagement photos.
That post on the figure comp made me sort of sad. Seems like so many people write those sorts of posts. Both of comps were really rewarding experiences and I’ve never regretted them for a moment and I feel like they helped me in so many ways. Oh well. We are all different! :-)
I’m counting down the days until the RKC!!! I can’t wait to have my azz handed to me.
I put lots of different stuff on my oats but yogurt is a definite must for me! I’m counting down to Glastonbury Festival I leave on the 23rd of June and can’t wait!!!!!! x x
awesome workout…..goodmornings are killer! hahhah that move that youposted at the end…yes I am reading a strength training book and taknig an exam out of it for work, and there is the wierdest picture of a man doing donkey calf raises and another man is sitting on top of him for added resistance…the book is from the 80’s and it is so strange!!!
ummm you COULD get away with putting 987234 carbs in your oatmeal DUHHH!!! I usually add protein powder, banana and some berries (low in carbs!!) nto taht much but just enough so I get some chunks of strawberries or blueberries in the bites!
have you ever had the detour bars? thats what that protein bar looks like!!! it does taste like candy, btu the detour bar ingredients are sketch…Jason loves them
i knew lindsey way back while she was going through her comp and it was amaazing to follow her and see the realizations she came to figure out about herself…it was quite the journey, and nope its not for everyone!!
love you!
I always put a banana, cinnamon, vanilla, and sea salt. Top it with coconut and peanut butter!
I always add peanut butter, a sliced banana and cinnamon to my oatmeal!
That’s how I roll haha!
The circuit training looks intense!
yumm, we put protein powder and banana in our oatmeal. Pump it up a little! And I can’t believer your wedding is almost here……YEA!!!
My husband has a race in Sonoma Valley in July and we rented a cabin to stay afterwards for 2 days. this is our ONLY vacation for the year. CAN’t FREAKIN WAIT!!
Hello! How are you? Great job on the daily eats. Bummmmmmmmmer about the Greek yogurt. Josh has a tendency to forget his lunch in the car (or it just never makes it to the fridge), so I put about 3 of those ice block things in his lunch to keep it fresh haha. Great job with the leftovers! I love when I have enough leftover from a meal out for a second round at home. Love your mocha mix.
1. fruit, nuts, cinnamon- yum!
2. Hmm….not really! Which is odd because I’m unusually counting down to something.
Eggs without hot sauce is like a sweet potato without greek yogurt….it’s just such a perfect marriage of foods! :)
I always put nut butter on my oatmeal or cereal. Always! It doesn’t matter what else goes in, as long as there is some nut butter, I’m solid.
Haha, I feel the same way about people posting their sweaty bodies on the blog. Sometimes it’s not so bad, but I doubt someone wants to see my grody face after my workouts at 5am. It’s not such a pretty thing that I care to promote! :)
Have a great day lady!!
I’ve got 18 days til mine!
I love the word goon!
Cinnamon is great in oats. I wish I could add 937g of carbs too :(
4th of July weekend at the lake!
Oh Janetha, I love you. I’m sitting here in my peejays digesting breakfast and wondering what on earth I’m going to do at the gym today. Then I come over here and see all the fabulous bosu ball moves that I’ve been wanting to try out and now I feel inspired!! My glutes may hate you for the bosu squats tomorrow though. Just lettin’ ya know.
That donkey calf raise is by far the most ludicrous thing I’ve seen in a long while :P
1) I’m all about the egg whites in oatmeal, topped with nut butter, and sometimes something fun like a little chocolate chips, coconut, or syrup. I try to keep it to two toppings. I’m really simplistic, and I hate it when flavours get lost in one another.
2) 21 HOURS TILL I FLY OUT FOR BANFF!!!
I’m gonna miss you JB!!! Next year, we will have to plan our hiking trip for Utah!! Yes?
Only five more mondays? Whoo!!!
My oatmeal is usually adorned with chia seeds, banana, and some sort of nut butter. Oh, and a boatload of cinnamon. ;)
I am c0unting down to my birthday… 51 days, 11 hours, 46 minutes
And my wedding! 60 days, 15 hours, 44 minutes. :D
xo
K
The perfect bowl of oatmeal in my book is one that has lots of cinnamon, banana and peanut butter. And chia seeds for fun. :D
Love the sunflower seed butter addition to your salad! I haven’t had that type of “nut” butter in a long, long time. So yummy! :D
1. I make my oatmeal just like you…always cinnamon and alternate between sf syrup and peanut butter.
2. I currently have 3 countdowns on my iGoogle page. Countdown to last day of work, countdown to moving to London & countdown to last day of work excluding weekends. I’m crazy but also very very very excited!!
I haven’t eaten oatmeal in a long time, but I’m thinking of having a bowl this morning… I think I’ll probably go old school like my mama used to make it for me… a little buttah, brown sugah, and a cinnah-mon! ;) hehe!
Have a great day, Janetha!! :)
I love that coffee xanthan gum concoction, I tried something similar a few weeks ago.
I love warm melted nut butter on oats and banana. Sometimes I add some crunch like granola, and I try and add what bran and or flax when I remember it. I think you should add some fruit or a couple of tablespoons of granola sometimes if you want. A few blueberries or strawberries won’t break the carb bank and if you enjoy it that’s a good enough reason!
Wow loved the link on fitness competitions. A great perspective. I think her opinion can hold true for the male competitors too. There was a trainer at my gym that did them and before he left he was in the middle of training. Each week I would see him for our kettlebell class and he became more and more quiet and tired. He had said that he was in the stage where he wasn’t allowed carbs and he said he wouldn’t reccomend this to anyone…it was hell! YIKES
Doesn’t sound like fun to me at all.
Lately I have been loving my oats with a few cut strawberries. I am also on the wedding countdown..67 more days to go!!!!!!! I can’t believe you are in the 30 some odd days to go, how exciting:).
I JUST finished my oatmeal for breakfast! I keep it simple – chocolate protein powder and PB & Co Dark Chocolate Dreams PB. I actually have you to thank for getting the protein powder to mix in properly. I used to mix it in while it was still over the flame but it would get clumpy and not very tasty. Now, I mix it in once its cooked and off the flame and stir stir stir – which I learned from your tutorial. So thanks!
So close to the wedding and honeymoon – its so exciting for you!!
Nicole G
I’ve gotta use some of my iced coffee for a mocha protein drink. That loooks sooo good. So does the “candy bar”. Where do you get them? I don’t see a brand.
1. To be honest, I may be the ONLY person in the blog world that isn’t an oatmeal fanatic. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve eaten oats. I prefer cereal in the morning! I think, because oats, I have to add a bunch of stuff to it. Cereal is good all on its own :)
2. I am counting down to vacation! Less than two weeks to go for me! I’m headed to the Outer Banks in NC! :D
I’m counting down the days to my 98-Day Challenge FINISH! :o) It’ll be on August 30th! (It’s through Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, very similar to BFL).
Also, you mentioned MapMyRun AND that you have an app on your phone that’s counting down to your wedding, so I’m going to assume you have an iPhone. If that’s the case, download the RunKeeper App – it’s FREE and not only maps your run, but gives you splits, etc. It’s GREAT and you don’t have to input anything, just have your phone with you on your run! :o)
BTW – did you announce the winners of the Wake Up Challenge? Did I miss it? (Very likely – I’ve been computer absent on the weekends…)
And YAY for only 5 more Mondays! It’ll be here before you know it!
That donkey calf raise is hysterical. It looks like it should be part of some cheesy commercial or something. It’s just not right!
I’m counting down until I move back to Boston, and until the baby comes! Though I wish I was counting down to vacation like you!
I’ve tried to use mapmyrun but sometimes I get confused by it. Obviously, I have issues.
I used to put cholula on everything–now I’m on a Frank’s kick.
Hey, if the ratios are good and that protein par is tasty, then do it. Looks good to me!
I’m counting down the days till I move into my new place–problem is, I dont have a move in date yet so thats kind of hard!
Thanks for the shout out and I am glad you enjoyed the post! :)
I’ve always thought that all of the people who put 50 toppings on their oatmeal don’t actually like OATMEAL, just the toppings. I could be wrong, but sometimes it gets absurd.
Do you need someone to take your place in the house when you get hitched and move out? I wouldn’t mind having a roommate that brings home delicious food all the time. ;-)
i had smoooooth operator pb in my oatmeal for the first time EVER this morning! love it :) not as much as naturally more and i was missing my raspberry jam. but damn. it was good. and p powder of couuuurse
…what’s wrong with melted greek yogurt…
Haha, I’m adding that weighted calf raise to my routine just to get looks!
5 Mondays, woop woop! I think about you every single Monday with your eggbeaters and oatmeal. No idea of the time difference between us, but it’s pretty much guaranteed that I will crave eggs at some point. Your dinner sounds SO good. And I am allllll about protein bars that taste like candy. That move Susan posted cracked me up- I don’t know what I would do if someone was doing it in my gym. I want to email it to my trainer…haha.
Oats: usually I cook them, add yogurt and chill overnight. Either with blueberries or bananas and cinnamon (+ vanilla and pinch of salt, sometimes protein powder) then top with either coconut or nut butter. Or crumbled Lara bars.
I am counting down but I am not sure until when. Anxiously awaiting some news that I should have before June 30th but could be anytime. Also counting down to my NY trip…but the number isn’t going down. So no official countdowns!
awhhh love Sunflower Seed Butter, and never would have thought to put it on a salad! loves!
That is one good workout! I can’t wait to work it out and sweat again. Just a few more weeks, but in the mean time I’ll stick to the stationary bike and do my best with upper body weights. That protein bar looks delish. Where did you find that?!?!
Holy cow girl..your workout is AWESOME! I wish I was as hardcore as you! :)
Mmm, sweaty shirts and limp salads with cottage cheese. I’m so hungry now. ;)
I put almond butter and protein powder in my oats. YUM. I’m counting down until my manuscript is due. 68 days!
Happy Tuesday, Miss J!
I am counting down to my Mexico trip!!!!!! MAJA excitement over here….I can’t wait!
Cinnamon in oatmeal is a must. It can be missing ANY other addition and I’ll be fine, but if it’s missing the cinnamon it’s not a real bowl of oatmeal!
1. I have so many wonderful oat combos, but today’s included: cinnamon, banana, blackberries and almonds – yummers!
2. I’m counting down ’til my 21st b.day – 11 days!
& purdy nails, lady : )
lol at the sweat stain. i make sweat angels on the ground in my gym. hahaha.
i don’t really eat oats anymore, but when i do, i put a shit ton of cinnamon on it. and that’s it.
i’m counting down til SUMMER! (which is one day. final tomorrow!)
I wish I could get excited about lower body workouts but just can’t do it. Now shoulders and back, I am alllllll about!
That protein mocha looks fabulous, what does the xanthan gum do though? Make it thicker?
I am going to NYC in less than a month then right when I get back am moving into a new apartment much closer to work and within walking distance to restaurants, bars, supermarkets and three coffee places, cannot wait!!
I have been counting calories for…a year? I started counting in high school. There have been years when I paid no attention but once you know how many calories are in things it’s almost automatic ;)
You are beyond hilarious lately. Must be all the exciting wedding plans. Can’t wait for pics. You are going to be GORGEOUS!!!!!
