i didn’t mean to.

by Janetha on June 3, 2010

in meals

it’s ten o’clock.

i didn’t mean to post so late.

didn’t mean to neglect my blog.

i didn’t mean to miss two workouts in a row.

i didn’t mean to not take photos of everything i’ve been eating.

i didn’t mean to not plan my meals or snacks and just eat what was around.

but i did. such is life. and i’ve been living it!

hope you understand.

well, since i posted last, here are the ten things i consider blog-worthy. hope you agree.

1. new delicious combo=egg whites+sweet potato+parmesan cheese!

IMG_3553

this was super simple.  60 grams of baked sweet potato using my eatsmart food scale~IMG_3508

5 egg whites + 2 TB parmesan cheese~IMG_3511

all mixed up! IMG_3520 IMG_3522

add a little salt & pepper and you are good to go!

IMG_3550

197 calories, 15g carbs, 26g protein, 4g fat

2. vitalicious brownie (that i won from ruth!) topped with naturally more peanut butter makes a fantastic bedtime snack.

IMG_3584 IMG_3580

156 calories, 25g carbs, 7g protein, 6g fat

3. susan is a genius! and she taught me how to customize my white balance. in this post.

no photos. just excitement!

4. penny and randy are cute. i love them a lot.

IMG_3624 IMG_3594 IMG_3610

$hot.

IMG_3595

5. coffee and water are the only two beverages i need in my life. the end.

IMG_3646 IMG_3645

i like it black.

6. i have been eating my edible arrangement for breakfast, lunch and snacks ever since tuesday. that’s ok, right?

IMG_3637

i may have overdosed on melon.

7. sometimes you just need a sandwich.

IMG_3658

two slices of whole wheat bread. one wedge of laughing cow light cheese.

IMG_3651

one baby cucumber, sliced.

IMG_3652

turkey breast, tomato & lettuce.

IMG_3654

8. getting engagement photos was way more fun than i expected. i can’t wait to see how they turn out!

(these aren’t the photos. these are momma b’s “behind the scenes” shots.)

image

only your truest love will get the gunk out of your eyes during a photo shoot :)

image

9. i’ve been drinking a grip of protein shakes. they’re quick, cheap and easy.. and i’m busy, broke and have no time for complicated meals.

IMG_3669

this one had a cup of almond milk, 5 strawberries (from the edible arrangement, of course), chocolate protein powder and ice.

10. we celebrated my brother’s 30th birthday tonight!

the obligatory 30 balloon bouquet courtesy of momma b.

IMG_3695

i made a pasta salad.

IMG_3671IMG_3673

it had:

  • farfalle pasta
  • diced celery
  • diced braebrun apples
  • feta cheese
  • slivered almonds
  • craisins
  • poppyseed dressing

IMG_3677 IMG_3683

it joined the party with the other salads.

IMG_3684

funny story. the “plan” for the party was to have everyone over for a BBQ and skate sesh.  my brother has been building a miniramp in his back yard.

well.. as it turns out, the miniramp wasn’t quite done yet. so all the dudes spent the whole party finishing up the ramp!

IMG_3744 IMG_3690 IMG_3696

i think this was a nice birthday gift for my brother, don’t you?

the rest of us sat around and watched.. and ate..  IMG_3711

IMG_3741 IMG_3742

is the anticipation for the miniramp completion killing you?

lovebirds.

IMG_3736

my bestest friend.

IMG_3737

my plate

IMG_3748

a bun-less burger atop a bed of lettuce and covered in three bean & corn salad and tomato. two salads: the one i made and an incredible tortellini salad that was filled with chicken, artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes and olives. yum.

while waiting for the ramp to be complete.. i messed around with the new camera.

IMG_3728 IMG_3721

like my new kicks?

IMG_3739

best birth control. ever.

IMG_3735

there were popsicles.

IMG_3772

there was a swingset session.

IMG_3775 IMG_3774

and there was more waiting.

IMG_3769

and the sun began to set. the boys kept working.

IMG_3782 IMG_3783

and then the birthday boy said, “IT’S READY!”

IMG_3790

hooray! FINALLY!

IMG_3824

and then they got to skate :)

IMG_3802 IMG_3804 IMG_3808 IMG_3810 IMG_3817

happy birthday, dougie b.

time for bed :)

by the way, how fast has the week flown by?! 4 day work week plus my birthday plus off work early for engagements plus brother’s birthday=SHORTEST WEEK EVER.

Qs~

1. if you had to pick only TWO beverages to drink for the rest of your life, what would they be? (you can pretend water isn’t necessary for survival. you don’t have to pick it.) my answer=water and coffee.

2. bedtime snack of choice? in a world where calories don’t count, i say vanilla bean ice cream. but since that world doesn’t exist, my realistic answer is plain greek yogurt+peaches+cinnamon. yumm. but that snack up there was pretty excellent last night!

happy friday!

chasingthenow June 3, 2010 at 10:39 pm

1. Coffee and water. I totally agree with you!

2. My favorite bedtime snack is ice cream… Oops!

mom June 3, 2010 at 10:57 pm

Up way too late. Love this post and photos of ramp building. Love the birth control pic! Great salads. Love being a best friend even if I look hammered in the photo!
You and Marshall are a dazzling duo xoxoxo!!!!

Bri June 3, 2010 at 10:58 pm

hahaha i love the “best birth control. ever.” caption! Love the shoesies. The vitalicious brownie looks amazeballs.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) June 3, 2010 at 11:11 pm

answer=water and coffee. ME TOO

you and marshall go to more impromptu parties and get togethers in a week than ive been to in 4+ yrs. Birth control for ya. Life changes after kids. For the better, but different indeed :)

xoxo

Karin June 3, 2010 at 11:13 pm

Yay for living life! I always tend to apologize when I don’t blog that often but damn no one should apologize for enjoying life. Anyways, it seems like you are having a fab time. I can’t wait to see those engagement photos ;)

actorsdiet June 3, 2010 at 11:14 pm

i’ve been having hot cocoa almost every night before bed this whole winter. when the weather warms up i’ll have to make it cold! or just eat ice cream.

Kerry June 4, 2010 at 12:07 am

i loooove your new camera! the pictures are amazing! you and marshall are the cutest couple! bet the pictures will be great. I love your outfit and your new shoes! xx

overconcerned June 4, 2010 at 12:19 am

Living life = yes.
Apologising for living life = no.

1) Tea and umm… I don’t want to say water because I’m not THAT big a fan of the taste of water, but I can’t think of anything else. So, water.

2) Fruit! I love love love fruit. :D

Happy birthday to your brother! That party looks like fun. I would have wanted to pitch in. :)

Alyson @ Nourished Fitness June 4, 2010 at 12:21 am

I didn’t mean to be super lame.. and miss your birthday. Hope it was wonderful!

That egg white combo sounds like perfection. And lastly, that sleeveless blank dress is so cute!

MelissaNibbles June 4, 2010 at 2:07 am

I showed my bf the ramp and he pissed himself with jealousy. He wants to fly out and hang with your brother.
I can’t wait to see the pictures. You guys look adorbs.
1. Water and coffee
2. Vanilla chobani with kashi golean crunch mixed in.

That is definitely birth control. The best birth control was probably five hours later when they were all hopped up on sugar, running around screaming. AHHHH!

Erica June 4, 2010 at 3:12 am

Hey girl! Sometimes life gets busy :) No stresses about blog neglect! It happens. Lots of yummy eats. I agree- two beverages- coffee and water! I need nothing else. Can’t wait to see your engagement pictures. The party looks like fun- Great job on the big bowl of pasta salad. The ramp looks so cool. I wish I could skateboard. Happy Friday

April June 4, 2010 at 3:15 am

Water and coffee please!

I love a whey cake with PB in the middle mmmm…and a glass of almond milk which I would totally give up for coffee ;)

I have 5 nieces and 1 nephew. They get old and they’re not as fun. That’s my birth control. That and the world is going down the crapper.

Naomi (onefitfoodie) June 4, 2010 at 3:18 am

WATER COFFEE BY FAR!!! i could live happily off of those drinks for the rest of my life (and pretty much do!!)

i cannot WAIT to see how yourpics turned out! i love the background and scene in them and cannot freakin wait!

no worries on the blog, this happens to me to (hence no posting yesterday) but I will today!!! live your life girl! we know its especially hectic this time right now!

happy brithday to your brother! what a fun party! i would have sat. and ate. :)

bedtime snack of choice would be cottage cheese and pb!

mmm that edible arrangement is lasting you a while SCORE FOR FRUIT! :)

love you!

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is June 4, 2010 at 3:35 am

Water and margaritas … yum!

MAJL June 4, 2010 at 4:16 am

Coconut water and water!

simplyshaka June 4, 2010 at 4:38 am

Busy girl! I am totally on the sweet pot/ egg white wagon right now but never had it with the parm!

I also with you on the coffee and water but have been getting bored with coffee lately so no clue what I’m gonna do about that….sadface.

Happy Friday!

Ps..you’re not the only one who forgot to plan meals I have no clue what lunch or dinner is going to be..grr.

Abby June 4, 2010 at 4:38 am

I have no real substantial comment other than to say that the pics with your new camera look great! As for beverages, water and tea are seriously the only things I drink. Boring, but hydrating ;) And even though it was a “short” week, it seemed like the longest week ever on my end. TGIF!

SHE-FIT June 4, 2010 at 4:47 am

I’ve been eating vitatops for my bedtime snack for the past few weeks… haha. I definitely have an addictive personality so I have to eat one every night. Trying to break the habit! Glad you are enjoying those vitatops

Lauren June 4, 2010 at 4:54 am

Fun BBQ and I love that pic of you and Marshall with the popsicle! You guys look so sweet and in love. Maybe that one should make it into the engagement photo mix? :)

If I had to only live off two beverages they would be…coffee and water too! Can’t imagine my life without either. :)

Happy Friday darling!

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) June 4, 2010 at 5:03 am

Drooling after like, photo three with those egg whites/sweet potato/parm (yum!) combo and the brownie. Foodgasmmmm…

That pasta salad looks SO good. Mmmm!

Two beverages… hmm, that one is HARD! Fresh mango grapefruit juice && green tea!

Ice cream is the ULTIMATE late night snack. Unfortuately, my thighs don’t agree with that notion, hah.

Susan June 4, 2010 at 5:49 am

Eeee, your photos are gorgeous!!! The sweet potato/egg white combo sounds fab. Too funny that the boys spent the whole time working on the ramp. And I love that pic of the lovebirds on the swing, y’all are so gosh darn cute. Can’t wait to see the engagement photos!! Oh, and puppy yawns break my heart.

1. I just choose water – it’s all I want in life! But for the sake of being fun, I’ll pick ICED coffee and chocolate milk.

2. If calories weren’t an issue then peanut butter on toast. But in the real world, I love protein powder batter :)

Happy Friday JB!!! <3

Heather (Where's the Beach) June 4, 2010 at 5:58 am

You have sooooo much going on right now that a little bit of late blogging or no pictures is perfectly understandable. If calories were no issue – my nighttime snack would be cookies. If I get 2 snacks, ice cream AND cookies (not necessarily cookies and cream ice cream).

brandi June 4, 2010 at 6:05 am

Water and coffee, hands down :)

What a fun birthday party! And you two are such a cute couple :)

inmytummy June 4, 2010 at 6:11 am

wine and chocolate milk. preferably not together.

Brynne June 4, 2010 at 6:14 am

I definitely have to try the sweet potato and egg white combo – sounds so so good! Coffee and margaritas FTW :0)

Talia June 4, 2010 at 6:34 am

Happy Friday!

Since water doesn’t “count”, I’m going with red wine and coffee!

Your pictures are lookin’ better and better with the new cam! Woo hoo!

Also, you and Marshall are so cute! I’ve been married a little over a year to my best friend and all I can say is if you marry the right person, marriage is the BEST! I love being a MRS:)

♥,T

Kristie June 4, 2010 at 6:36 am

A mini ramp in the backyard? Hahah you have the coolest brother ever. I think having to wait and having a nighttime boarding sesh looks even more fun anyway!

Just finished reading about your birthday. Happy Belated again! Loved it. + I fully support eating edible arrangements at every point in the day.

Beverages por moi… I think I’d agree with the water and coffee. Can I throw in a third and say smoothies too? Those can count as DRINKS right? :)
When I need a bedtime snack I usually go for a cereal/yogurt bowl! And/or apple along with it.

Ali June 4, 2010 at 6:52 am

Hi!
Did you ever try adding a sprinkle of tumeric before cooking your egg whites? You may not mind the whiteness of them, but making them yellow helps my brain enjoy them more!

lowandbhold June 4, 2010 at 7:00 am

Sounds like my life all the time! It’s all good.

I love eggs and sweet potatoes. Major yum!

The party looks like a blast. Such a cool idea!

1. I have to cheat and list three: Water, Coffee, Beer – in that order. I just love a cold beer. I was raised that way.
2. Fruit and nuts. Or ice cream.

This week was indeed crazy fast! I hope the weekend slows down some.

homecookedem June 4, 2010 at 7:06 am

What a beautiful and yummy looking pasta salad!! So glad you’ve been out living your life and having fun!! :)

happy birthday doug e. doug!!!!!!!

happy weekend friend :)

ellie June 4, 2010 at 8:01 am

what an awesome party! We used to have a half-pipe in our garden that my brother built…too cool. Your pasta salad looks amazing, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOUG!!!!!!!

fave drink? Coffee. Or diet cream soda. Though I am happy with coffee.

bedtime snack? I like wholegrain toast with butter and honey (a lot!) or greek yogurt with cooked muesli stirred in :D

lisaou11 June 4, 2010 at 8:02 am

you’ve had a killer week! looks like so much fun!

I love me just an apple and pb at night, simple and good :).

Marissa June 4, 2010 at 8:23 am

This post just made me smile; spending the party building the ramp is so sweet! I only really drink water… but I love some hot tea during the winter! I’m an ex-coffee addict. I need to start eating bedtime snacks.

Angharad June 4, 2010 at 8:29 am

1. This is hard, Janetha! Tea with milk and sugar is one. Ummmm. Red wine is number two!

2. Popcorn. Or cereal. Or cookies.

Love the birthday shenanigans and YES this week flew by!! hurray for Friday.

cardiopizza June 4, 2010 at 8:34 am

Bedtime snack: I love a bowl of popcorn (kettle corn) or some ice cream :)

Drinks: water and iced tea!

Love all the pictures in this post! And that egg sweet potato combo looks unreal!

Kelly June 4, 2010 at 8:40 am

Kombucha and water!!

adrienmelaine June 4, 2010 at 8:49 am

I’d say coffee, but I’d like to have some booze in my life! hahah

I love your photos- your new camera is fantastic!

april June 4, 2010 at 8:57 am

Oh!! You have to try egg whites with sweet potato and peanut butter!!

Lindsay June 4, 2010 at 8:58 am

How could you not love Penny and Randy. Look at those faces!! My favorite bed time snack is a new one. I’m obsessed with plain Greek yogurt, blueberries, and a few chocolate chips. It’s Heaven I tell ya!

Liz June 4, 2010 at 9:00 am

water and beer. what? i’m serious. although, the beer is like a twice a year thing.

i can’t do a “bedtime snack” my last eats are about 3 hours before bed. however, i love a frozen (yep, try it) deep chocolate vita top with better n’ pb on it. Soooooooooo gooodlicious!

FUN PARTY!! Good post. Looks like you are familiarizing yourself with your camera quite quickly!

luckytastebuds June 4, 2010 at 9:03 am

ehh life gets in the way of things all the time, but somehow you still manage to come up with an insanely entertaining and fun post to read!! :) I LOVE your farfalle salad. I’m a sucker for bow tie pasta because they’re cute. muhaah

2 drinks: water and er…diet ginger ale!!

Bed time snack would have to be kettle corn. hahaha Orrr, I love me some tuscan 3 cheese pretzel crisps like the ones I’m giving away. *sigh* They’re addicting and i already feel my ass growing on the couch as i nosh away…

julie June 4, 2010 at 10:29 am

dude i am totally feelin those new kicks! :)

my answer would be the same as yours ALMOST but mine would be seltzer and coffeee (caaaaawwwwwwwwfeeeee) hahaha

perfect bedtime snack for me would be a nice muffin and a cup of something warm :) OR popcorn!!!

freckledfoodie June 4, 2010 at 11:01 am

glad m&m bro had a great bday! :) skating looks fun. i’ve always wanted to try.

i’m loving your outfit choices for the engagement photos! esp. the satiny black dress!

1. skinny water is sooo yum & i’d go with coffee too, but only if i can have my splenda or sf syrups.

2. before bed? as of late, my prebed snacks are green monsters! <3

xo.

Run Sarah June 4, 2010 at 11:50 am

Can’t WAIT to see your engagement photos. Love the dresses you chose! That mini-ramp is awesome, what a great birthday gift to finish it! I would have black coffee & water too. Favourite bed time snack is anything sweet – I always have something after dinner, my favourites are SIAB or ice cream!

Alexis June 4, 2010 at 12:13 pm

great questions!

1. wine (either robert mondavi pinot noir or loosen bros. riesling) and tea (preferably harney&sons)
2. in a world where calories didn’t count… cake. but we all know that they do so then my choice is a macintosh apple and salt-free peanut butter.

kbwood June 4, 2010 at 12:16 pm

HEY BOO!!
okay i suck at life bc im so late saying this.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! edible arrangement WHAT WHAT!! thats EXACTLY what i tell my bf to get me! who wants flowers? uhhh they die anyway! sounds like youve had a GREAT WEEK!!
im ALL FOR BEDTIME SNACKS! i eat like a full meal before bed! hahah usually a yogurt, 2 tbsp of PB, protein cake (made w. casien!) , and an apple or kettle corn!

Lara (Thinspired) June 4, 2010 at 1:15 pm

Janetha B, my love!

I can’t wait to see your “real” engagement photos—I can tell already that they will be beautiful!

1. Hmmm….I guess I would have to say water and coffee, too. Or red wine and coffee. Depends on the day ;)
2. I like the “calories don’t count” world. Ice cream. Moosetracks :)

emily June 4, 2010 at 1:33 pm

1. Diet coke! and young thai coconut smoothies (blended with cinnamon and ice)
2. I’m actually not big on late night snacks. I’m much more apt to eat a piece of chocolate, a bit of ice-cream, etc. upon waking up!

Lori June 4, 2010 at 1:48 pm

Great post! Love all 10 items! Great ramp too. Wow.

Happy engagement photos! (hehe) very cute!! Yum to those eggs. I will be testing those out shortly!

I love your dogs. They’re adorable. As are you. Happy Friday!
