hey, heyyy, hi!
YEP. post number 400 here on meals & moves! pretty crazy. i remember when i thought 100 posts was a lot.. and now i am quadruple that amount. pretty sweet!
so, some of you guessed my big news but most of you just didn’t guess.. or you saw me post about it on facebook and that is totally cheating ;) BUT.. big news?
we bought a house!
yep. for the past month i have been keeping my mouth SHUT about this big lifetime event.. but now that we have closed (as of yesterday at 3 PM) i can shout it from the rooftops!
WE ARE HOMEOWNERS!
yay! so.. we found a house awhile back. i wanted to talk about it when we placed the offer on the house, but momma b would not allow it. she said it would have jinxed us! let me further explain.. momma b is not only the best mom on the planet, she is also the best real estate agent on the planet! (so if you live in utah and need an agent, she’s your lady!)
anyway, she wouldn’t let me blog about the house or the offer or the inspection or the appraisal or the walk throughs or the stress or the excitement or anything about the house until it was OFFICIALLY ours.
and now it is! so, so, so happy.
i will be taking some photos and/or filming a video to show you guys the place.. but we will not be moving in until july–after the wedding. in the meantime, we will be demolishing the kitchen and redoing it.. along with painting, carpeting and tiling the whole house. installing new windows. possibly redoing one of the bathrooms. yes, we have our work cut out for us these next few months!!
i am SO excited to have our own house and our own KITCHEN! i bet july is going to take forever to get here ;)
between wedding planning and house buying, i have been pretty busy. that is why i introduced guest post thursdays. and to be honest, posting may be a little hectic these next couple months.. but i will do my best to keep the blog up to date.
okay! how about a little food and fitness rambling?
friday.
yesterday after closing on the house i had a new-to-me protein bar:
luna protein chocolate cherry almond. this bar has better ratios than the regular luna bar. this bar has 180 calories, 12g protein and 21g carbs. the regular luna bars have only 8 or 9g protein and around 28g carbs.
this tasted like a candy bar. it was good, but i am not crazy about it. i like bars that aren’t so sweet. i typically pick bars that don’t have chocolate in them, like the nuts & cranberry luna bar. i don’t really like candy bars and that is what this reminded me of. with that said, i still ate the whole thing.. and i enjoyed it.. but i probably won’t buy it often, if ever again.
i didn’t get home until about 7 PM and we had plans to go out with some friends. i designated friday my rest day from exercise (i usually take one of the weekend days off) and instead committed to work out both saturday and sunday this weekend. that works.
for dinner, we had no groceries and didn’t want to go out to eat, so we made the only thing we had supplies for on-hand.
spaghetti.
ground turkey, shallots and basil & garlic marinara served over whole wheat noodles and topped with fat free feta.
the kids got the leftover noodles :)
ahahaha. we got some awesome photos, no?
saturday.
i woke up this morning and enjoyed a couple of cups of coffee from the french press and then i was off to the gym!
today was a HIIT day but, more importantly, it was my first day back at doing cardio on the treadmill! yay for running :) i LOVE my new asics.
i patterned this workout off lisa’s 3-2-1 workout she posted the other day. basically, you run 3 minutes at a moderate pace, 2 minutes a bit faster, and 1 minute even faster than the first two speeds. i increased these speeds by 0.5 with each interval and i factored an increasing incline into the equation. i did a 23.5 minute workout (which was the standard BFL style 20 minutes plus a 3.5 minute cooldown). i named it the way i did because my max heart rate was really up there.. 180 BPM!!
3-2-1 heart rate blastoff HIIT.
| minute # | speed (MPH) | incline |
| 0-1 | 5.0 | 0 |
| 1-2 | 5.5 | 0 |
| 2-5 | 6.0 | 0 |
| 5-7 | 7.0 | 1 |
| 7-8 | 8.0 | 2 |
| 8-11 | 6.5 | 0 |
| 11-13 | 7.5 | 1 |
| 13-14 | 8.5 | 2 |
| 14-17 | 7.0 | 0 |
| 17-19 | 8.0 | 1 |
| 19-20 | 9.0 | 2 |
| 20-23.5 | 3.0 | 0 |
total time: 23.5 minutes, total distance: 2.5 miles
i was dying during minute #19-20! i definitely hit my 10 on the RPE scale. it felt awesome! it is crazy what a short 20 minutes can do.
i came home and showered while my sweet potato home fries baked in the oven.
to go with the home fries, i sauteed red onion, diced ham & red bell pepper~
and then i added 4 egg whites to the equation:
i also scrambled in some diced green chiles before plating up my meal.
i garnished the heaping egg white scramble with avocado & tomatoes.
and of course, i doused it all in hot sauce before eating!
delicious.
this afternoon was fun.. we colored easter eggs! here is a photo recap:
fabulous.
i definitely ate some stuff to power me through the easter egg excitement.
grapes, strawberries & a clementine:
times two. (is it freaky to anyone else that strawberries are bigger than clementines these days?)
i also used some of the quitters (AKA the cracked hard boiled eggs that we couldn’t color) to make a delicious open-faced egg salad sandwich.
one sandwich thin layered with avocado (it is hiding under there!) topped with an egg salad made with four hard boiled egg whites, a lot of yellow mustard, a scoop of cottage cheese, garlic salt and black pepper.
it was eggcellent! haha.. you had to see that coming.
tonight we went out to dinner with friends at one of my favorite places:
love the bayou!!
there were some appetizers ordered that i snagged a few bites of:
yep. the alligator cheesecake!
this was a savory, cheesy, fantastic slice of pie. i had one bite and was really impressed with the flavor of the alligator sausage. who knew a cheesecake could be savory? not me. but now i do.
there were also some sweet potato fries that i had my fair share of ;)
for my entree, i ordered the club salad:
holy GIANT SALAD! i ate about half of it. there was no way i could dominate that beast of a salad. it was tasty, though! especially that pesto balsamic vinaigrette there on the right.
we let our dinner digest and had some hang time at a couple different houses before ending the night with…
frozen yogurt!
this was my first time at one of the serve-yourself frozen yogurt places. i usually frequent places that serve it up for you, like red mango. i loved the concept of getting exactly what i wanted and paying for just that, according to the weight.
i went with the original tart flavor and topped it with a little of several fruits.. blackberries, strawberries, mangos and blueberries along with a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs.
it was the perfect sweet treat to end the night!
well, it is nearly 1 AM so i better hit the hay. i have a big day tomorrow.. lower body workout planned, easter celebration (baskets, egg hunts, oh my!) and my mom and i are cooking up an easter feast!! on the menu:
- easter ham
- danica’s scalloped potatoes
- ginger ale glazed carrots
- asparagus amandine
- three seeded whole wheat rolls
- fruit
- green salad with strawberries
- carrot cake from scratch (first time!)
should be good :)
sorry i have been MIA this weekend, i will be checking in with you all tomorrow, i should have some down time. hope you are all enjoying your weekend and have a great sunday <3
Qs~
1. do you rent or own your house? who do you live with? i am so stoked to no longer be a renter and be a home owner! however, i will be still be a renter until july. i currently live with one guy, one girl, one dog and two part time dogs (the other part of the time they are at marshall’s). BUT, come july, i will be living with marshall and our two pups.. i can’t wait!
2. favorite frozen yogurt topping? i like any fruits.. but i am not a fan of toppings like sprinkles, chocolate chips, candy, etc~ i think if i had to pick just ONE topping it would be peaches. too bad they didn’t have any tonight.
HOPPY EASTER!

Major congrats Janetha! Hubs and I own our condo and we bought it just before we got married too – soooo much better to have time to do renos before move in! Have an amazing Easter!
easter egg dying, too cute
that bar, i have had the PB and the choco chip cookie dough ones. the pb has more of a funky fake protein bar taste than the cookie dough one does. as bars go, they are fine b/c they DO taste like candy, i would not buy the one you tried, that’s not my flavor prefs. txh for the review.
the house. OMG. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought my house 6 mos ago (not the 1st time ive owned real estate, but the absolute hardest time I have ever had in getting a mortgage and dealing with the transaction b/c of the economy) and i am soooo happy for you guys!!!!!!!!!
xoxo
OMG, congrats girl!
Aww congrats! i live with my parents and so does my bf, i cant WAIT to move out with him! How exciting :) We dont do easter egg dying over here! Looks fun though! xxxxxxxxxxxx
woo woo!!!!!! CONGRATS J-BEAN!!!! So exciting :D Can’t WAIT to see photos- looks so cute from the outside :D
Alligator cheesecake- are you kidding me?! If your company is ever hiring and I have a chance to move to Utah, let me know. And I am not kidding. Your life = too cool.
I live by myself- I kind of rent but the apartment is essentially mine for as long as I want it. Set up through a government scheme so I never have to leave and never have to buy, and am not tied into any kind of lease. It’s mine, without the mortgage. lol. That makes more sense in my head.
Fave fro-yo topping… I like melty stuff. Hot fudge or nut butter (or caramel) and banana would be my choice. Or cake chunks.
congrats Janetha, that’s soooo exciting, the second biggest announcement since your wedding!!! I’m sooo happy for you!!!
1. I’m living in a rental apartment but my hubby and I bought two apartments to shanghai for our parents, so we’re home owners, but not living in it! ;)
2. berries, any kind!
WOO HOO! Thats awesome! I can’t wait till we buy a home. We’re still in a condo but someday, hehe. I didn’t really like the Luna protein bars either…way to sweet for me. Oh and ORIGINAL TART rules, i love those fro yo places. A little addicting you might say. Cheers!
Yay to the new house its so cool! I would love my own home I live with a lady called maggie she’s my best friend mum and she’s like my best friend/mum all in one! I could never afford a house right now plus I’m pretty happy where i am for now.
We don’t have those frozen yogurt bars here not fair!
Glad you like your giveaway send me your address info and it will be on its way to ya x x
Congrats on your 400 post but even more CONGRATS on your HOUSE!!!!!!! That’s awesome! :)
Love the egg coloring fun. We use to do this every year, only when we were younger, my mom made us do it on Friday night so that all the dye would be washed off in time for church on Sunday.
Such good memories of Easter! :)
Hope you have a wonderful day.
Hurrah congrats!! On the house AND the 400th post! Major excitement!! Can’t wait to see the inside and all your renovations…!
Congrats on the new casa!!
Congratulations! That is so exciting! I can’t wait to see more pics!
Congratulations, Janetha! Your house looks so cute. :)
I hope you have a blast with your Easter celebration – my parents are in town and we’re making them a huge brunch.
Congrats on the house!
I LOVE the pictures of the dogs with the spaghetti…hilarious!
I live with a roommate, but come August my boyfriend and I are moving across the country back to my hometown of Vancouver – to our OWN place on the ocean (well, that’s what we’re going for). I understand your excitement!
I like fruit OR chocolately stuff with fro-yo…depends on the day! ;)
Have a happy Easter!!
Congratulations!! That is so exciting!!
Happy Easter!!
congrats on the house!! That’s so exciting! And if we end up coming back to utah, I will keep your mom in mind!
I love mango on my frozen yogurt. I miss all the fro-yo places in Utah!
That treadmill workout sounds awesome. I’m going to try it out soon!
Congrats girl!! I can’t wait til I’m out of college and can look for apartments and then a house. House hunters is one of my favorite shows and I can’t wait to look at houses!! So much fun!
CONGRATS GIRL!! ahhh I cant believe you are so sneaky! hiding this info haha…I am so so so very happy for the both of you!! it is SO pretty too! I cant wait to see what you do with the kitchen!
I LOVE fruit on yogurt too, but I also love a crunch so if I am at home I throw on some natures path flakes or fiber one just for that crunch, without all the cal’s…I love frozen blueberries or raspberries on yogurt, althugh I had mango the other week and that was amazing!
have a wonderful easter my dear!
OH and I live with two other wonderful roomies, we rent an apartment but jason owns his house and I spend about 50% of my time there too :)
Congratulations! You know, I saw this on facebook and didn’t even put two and two together. How exciting! We’re still waiting to hear from the bank on the short sale that we put an offer on.
I currently rent a townhouse with Jason and my dog. And I like fruit too. I do sometimes get graham crackers or cereal for a bit of crunch.
Happy 400th post! And a huge CONGRATULATIONS on buying a house!!!! It looks perfect for you and Marshall.
It sounds like you’ve had an amazing weekend so far. I’m excited to dye easter eggs today – haven’t done it in so long. Have a beautiful Easter love!
PS- I literally shouted OMG at my computer when you posted that ultrasounds pic haha.
Congrats! That is so exciting!
Congratulations on becoming a home owner :) Definitely exciting news!!!
Happy Easter!!
yay!! Congrats on the house.. that’s sooo exciting! I can’t wait to see the inside :) And I just bought the Luna Protein Bars… except I LOVE sweets so I’m hoping I love them!
Congrats on the house!! My husband and I bought our condo last August and it’s been great. The place needed work – the very first day we moved in we realized that AC wasn’t working so that’s $6K we’ll have to spend very soon. We also just finished redoing our kitchen and today are actually going to work on our back yard – there are always projects but it’s also SO GREAT to own. It’s all yours, you know. Congrats!!!
Awesome eats, btw. I’ve never had the self-serve froyo either but I know there is a place semi-close. I need to check it out. Seems like such a fun concept. :)
Oh and I really wanted to thank you for your long comment on my blog. It meant a lot. I felt like a celebrity just commented, lol. Happy Sunday!
Congrats on the house!!! That is so fantastic! I bet you are going to have a tough time waiting for July! I’m so happy for you two. :)
CONGRATS! pretty house and PRETTY COUPLE! what a great accomplishment :) i agre with your mom about jinxing it ;) glad it worked out!
i love chocolate toppings for my froyo haha.i don’t like sprinkles though.. mostly chocolate chips and coconut or yogurt chips. sometimes i’ll splurge with reeses pieces.
Congratulations! So exciting!! I hope July comes quickly for you :)
That scramble sounds awesome.
Congrats on post #400! I love dyed Easter eggs, they remind me of being a little girl. Hope you have a wonderful Easter!
Congrats on the house little lady – I am very excited for you! :)
gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i’m SOOOOOOOOOO exccited for you!!!!!!!!!!! seriously that house is the sweetest thing ever! i want you to get a doormat that says welcome to the “so and so’s” whatever marshmellow’s last name is hahaha
i hope you celebrated pancake sunday today ;) i diiiid!
have a fab-o easter girl :) love love love you!
OMG so much to say!! First of all congrats a zillion times on the house! I didn’t know it happened. I’m a facebook #fail. It’s a cute house too! Love it. And hooray (or call the suicide line) for remodeling the kitchen! Boy have I been there! You’ll be so thrilled once it’s done!
The photos of the dogs with the pasketti (isn’t that what all kids call ‘spaghetti’? had me doubled over in laughter. Oh man your dogs are killer.
Fro yo is the 5th food group for me. I frequent those places more than I’m willing to admit and unless I’m starved I go naked- I mean- sans topping. If I’m hungry I’ll sometimes make it a mini-meal by having chopped almonds and breaking out half an energy bar to use as my “spoon” to eat the yogurt. Damn that just made me hungry and I haven’t made my shake because I don’t want to awaken the whole house.
I live with my cat Samantha and we let Derek sleep here too. If he behaves.
Love you and happy easter!! Have a wonderful day and say hi to Mama Bean!
Woohoo – congrats on the house! There is nothing more exciting (well, probably, but you know what I mean) than buying a home.
Love the easter egg dying and major congrats on the house!!!!! I currently live in a 150 square foot dorm room :)
Congrats on the 400th post – oh yea, and BUYING A HOUSE! =)
I live at home 1/2 the time with my mom stepdad and lil bro and dorm at school the other 1/2 in an oncampus apartment with 6 other girls (I only share a room with one). I LOVE my roommate – we were randomly placed together freshman year and have become best friends and stuck together since!
HAPPY EASTER! Your feast sounds delish and I’m sure will be amazing to look at tomorrow ;)

CONGRATS on the house! I am soooo happy for you!! Can’t wait to see a million more pics. Anyway, I live in a condo with my boyfriend and his mom is my landlord (technically he owns the place too, but I write my check out to her!). It’s a good deal…and part of me hopes on day we’ll sell the place to buy a house ;-) we’ll see though.
Fro yo…I actually don’t like fruit on my fro yo, it’s a texture thing. I wish I did, but I’m all about the yogurt chips…or rainbow sprinkles…or oreo pieces…haha the super unhealthy stuff!
Congratulations on the house!! It’s so much nicer than apartment living! :)
I purchased my house on my own when I was 24 and have lived here for 9 years now. I LOVE IT, though I clearly wish it was less expensive. Then again the price of privacy, decorating how you wish and knowing that you OWN something is priceless. :)
I’ve lived here with people and also spent 3 years here alone. I won’t bore you with the details. I currently live here with my boyfriend Nick. He moved in about 1.5 years ago. We’re very happy here in my drafty and old little piece of paradise.
CONGRATS ON YOUR HOME! It looks adorable!
AHHH!!!!!! Congratulations! That is beyond exciting. I can’t even imagine. And living with a dude, that would be something entirely different. I rent a house now and it’s uber luxurious.
My nails are currently painted in California Coral. You are amazing. LOVE YOU!!!
congratulations! the house is gorgeous and I Cant wait to see all the improvements you guys make!
and im glad you liked the treaddie workout. Im gonna copy YOURS today :)
oh and i live with a girl and 3 dogs…a shepherd mix, a lab, and a chihuhua
That is SOOOO exciting about the house, it’s beautiful! I rent an apt with my boyfriend, definitely not as exciting ;-)
I love fruit too, mango is my fav!
congrats, chica! on the big 400–and ON LA CASA!!! glad you celebrated in spaghetti style :)
Yay!!!! congrats to you and Marshall! What an exciting time in your lives! Your home looks beautiful!
Congratulations! I broke into such a big grin when I read your news! I couldn’t be happier for what I consider the most amazing married couple to be! I truly sincerely am overjoyed for you guys! I hope your lives ahead are filled with joy and love (and good eats!)!
Your friend,
Barbara
Congrats on the new house! I can’t wait to see the inside :)
Fav yog topping = fresh pineapple and fresh strawberries YUM
-Mary
So many things!! First, congrats on the 400 :) and CONGRATS on being a homeowner!! That is so huge and I am so happyyy for youuu!! I can’t wait for the tour. And I can’t wait to see what you’re doing to the kitchen! I hope there’s a spare bedroom for when I come visit ;)
Other things… those spaghetti shots with the dogs cracked me up. I love how Randy’s ears went up. Strawberries now are HUGE. I think it’s cause they’re from California and there the bigger the better. And I must try that treadmill workout. But I’m kinda scurred.
1. I rent a basement apartment in a duplex. It’s a bachelor, or my swingin’ bachelorette pad (ie, my living and bedroom are the same room) It’s okay. When I move to Toronto in July, I’ll be living with a couple – a guy and a girl I went to J-school with. I played in a band with the guy and the girl is a fellow foodie. SO excited for that!!
2. Froyo has not yet caught on in this corner of the world. Everyone here still goes to Dairy Queen (gag)
Happy Easter!! xoxo
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Congrats!!! That is really exciting!. Owning a home and thrilling and scary at the same time ;). Josh and I own ours….well mortgage it haha. Great eats. Loving the big salad, froyo (HUGE froyo fan) and those sweet potato fries? YUM!I love my froyo topped with tons of fresh fruit
glad you posted a pic of the house, I love it! can’t wait to see the inside once it’s all done : ) sad i had to miss out on the bayou goodness last night…kitters refused to babysit! haha, loves loves loves
I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
