in meals,moves

i am all over the place. you know how when you think about one thing, and that thought leads to another thing, and so on and so forth?

yeah. that is how planning a wedding is.

too many things to think about, one thing leading to another, and only one janetha brain to do all that thinking. throw some house hunting into the mix and that is just enough to put me over the edge.

i think i need a massage ;)

LUCKILY i have my amazing mom’s and family members’ brains to help with all this thinking. marshall has been really helpful too :)

anyway, to keep with the all-over-the-place theme, how about a totally random post that recaps some shenanigans as of late?

sure, ok.

thursday night.

i went to my parents’ house and did deb’s amazing power plate workout on my mom’s shaker machine.  i did all of deb’s moves and added a few of my own:

this routine i did 3 times through~ all on the machine:

  • 1 min standard squat
  • 1 min reverse lunges (alternating legs)
  • 1 min sumo squat
  • 1 min single leg squat (30 seconds each leg)
  • 1 min 40# stiff leg deadlifts
  • 1 min plank
  • 1 min v-ups

it only took 21 minutes total and i have intense DOMS in my hams and glutes! if you can get your hands on a power plate (or shaker machine, as my mom and i so lovingly call it!) then DO THIS WORKOUT!

after the workout i made dinner for my parents, marshall and myself.

i took this recipe from cooking light magazine~

roasted chicken with balsamic glazed bell peppers + garlic mashed yukon gold potatoes + steamed asparagus + green salad:

IMG_6899

this chicken recipe was AWESOME! and it was so, so easy. everyone should try it :)

the chicken had a dry rub of fennel, black pepper, salt and oregano.  i seared each side for about 3 minutes and then finished the breasts off in the oven for about 12 minutes. the chicken came out moist and flavorful.

IMG_6887

the balsamic bell peppers stole the show. i served them on top of the chicken and they made every bite seem like a party in my mouth. who knew fennel and balsamic paired so well together??

IMG_6891

for the potatoes, my mom mashed the yukon golds with a couple cloves of garlic and a splash of skim milk and a sprinkle of parsley for color.

IMG_6900

the other sides were great as well, they made for a colorful, veggie-filled dinner.

IMG_6894

i spy avocado~ love that healthy fat!

IMG_6897

i don’t understand how people can hate asparagus.

all in all it was a great evening!

friday night.

my good friend corey has a clothing/art store called fice.  my three good friends (nick, james and dave) who are tattoo artists have their art on display at fice and friday was the gallery stroll to debut their artwork.

image

it was fabulous. i have such talented friends! here are a few examples of their art~

dave:

(you may recognize this piece, it is hanging in my office)

james:

if you live in the SLC, go to fice and check out their stuff! and buy it! oh and buy super cute clothes from corey, too! nothing wrong with a little promotional word, right?

after the gallery stroll we went to bombay house for some indian food. YES.

appetizer plate:

IMG_6902

chicken curry & chicken tikka masala:

IMG_6904

paratha (layered indian wheat bread) & garlic naan:

IMG_6905

glorious. i could never get sick of eating indian food.

saturday stuff.

i didn’t take many photos saturday.  i think i have been WAY too busy to think about eating let alone photographing my eats. it’s been a weird week.

i DID have a glorious greek yogurt mess saturday morning. oh man. i missed these bowls.

IMG_6908

this had:

  • 1 cup oikos
  • 1/2 cup kashi go lean
  • 1/4 cup brown rice crisps
  • handful of beek’s chia granola
  • hearty dollup of NATURALLY MORE!

IMG_6906

my FAVORITE peanut butter.. i haven’t had it since before my jamaica challenge.. which means i haven’t had it since december! i finally bought a new jar. reunited and it tastes so good.

IMG_6909

saturday was busy. i was on the phone A LOT. turns out that the date we picked for our wedding is VERY popular and many of the venues i had in mind were already booked.  i was frustrated like woah.  i kept at it and eventually made some appointments.  marshall and i went to check out a place, LOVED it immediately and, long story short, we booked a wedding location!!! i will show you guys photos of the place soon, but i am saving that for another post that will be all things wedding. hold tight.

sunday.

today was a lot more mellow which was nice.  i was able to wake up and have some yoats~ so glad to see everyone in blog land is fully enjoying yoatgurt as much as i do!! it is fun to see all your concoctions. i should dedicate a post just to the glorious yoats, no?

we did some house hunting (online) this morning and then around 1:30 i decided to head to the gym.  i got my new oxygen! magazine so i knew i had one place i wanted to be: the stairmill.

the stairmill and i hadn’t hung out since before jamaica so it was a nice treat to get back on my favorite piece of cardio equipment.  i set the timer to 60 minutes, level 11, interval training and opened my magazine.  i was not even 2/3 of the way through the mag and the machine told me i was done.  the time literally flew by.. yes, the new issue of oxygen is just THAT good. go pick a copy up! my final stats for the workout: 60 minutes, 6.07 miles, max HR 164, ave HR 141, total calories 424.

so, as you can see, the stairmill does not get your heart rate up very high, but it does a stellar job at burning calories.

after the gym, marshall and i headed to my parents’ for family dinner. i drank this on the way:

IMG_6926

officially addicted. cheaper than cigarettes!

my mom cooked this time around and she did a fantastic job!

on the menu was chicken & rice casserole, broccoli, green salad, rolls & fresh fruit.

she forgot to make a part of the casserole with brown rice, but you know what i say? a little white rice never killed anyone.

my plate:

IMG_6944

a bit of everything in the savory department.

i finished my meal off with a freshly baked roll and my mom’s homemade raspberry jam which she made just this afternoon!

IMG_6938IMG_6936

we won’t talk about how much sugar goes into the very best jam in the entire world, ok? deal.

i also nibbled on some grapes & pears for dessert~

IMG_6939

after dinner, we all relaxed and chatted about all things wedding. there is a lot to plan! i am overwhelmed!!

penny and randy went outside and penny came back with this mondo sized bone~ no idea where it came from!

IMG_6948

poor randy didn’t have a chance at getting any action in with that bone.

IMG_6966

it’s a hard life.

WELL, was this post long enough for you? hope so.

i have been thinking a lot about things i want to add to the blog. i am working on a new layout and i also have tons of new pages in mind, i just don’t have the time to type them all up. SO~ my first Q will pertain to that whole situation. get ready for it.

hope you all have a fantastic week. can you even BELIEVE it is the last week of february?! i can’t. so nuts.

tune in tomorrow for more regularly scheduled rambling.

Qs~

1. of the following, which would you prefer to see me put up first: more meal pages, more moves pages (and do you want cardio moves or weight training moves?), a FAQ page or a “favorite products” page? i am planning to do them all, but i would like to see what you guys prefer i do first!

2. what is your favorite GREEN veggie? asparagus is for sure mine! but spinach and broccoli are up there as well.

xo. janetha b.

P.S. did you enter my giveaway?!?!

adrienmelaine February 21, 2010 at 9:46 pm

FAQ page forsure, and thenn a meals page I think first- with all your recipes or fave ways to make things- you know?!

My favorite green veggie is broccoli- we happen to have a PSA about it right now which is so funny

janetha February 21, 2010 at 9:53 pm

http://mealsandmoves.wordpress.com/meals/

there is my meals page~ definitely needs some additions though!

Julia February 21, 2010 at 9:49 pm

That owl artwork is amazing!

I’d love to see a FAQ page as well.

And my fave green veggies is broccoli – I love that I can put it in so many different dishes (stir fry’s, salads, macaroni and cheese, casseroles, etc.)

Have a great week! I can’t wait to hear more about wedding planning!

Lily @ Lily's Health Pad February 21, 2010 at 9:51 pm

Penny is so adorable!!

I hate the stairmill! I am out of breath after one minute. Argh. NOT fun.

My fave green veggie is probably the green pepper. My dad grew them last summer, and I loved just picking them off the plant, washing them, and eating them raw.

Stef @ moretolifethanlettuce February 21, 2010 at 9:53 pm

i love asparagus, totally worth the weird pee smell afterward. um i can’t pick a favorite green, but broccoli has been my choice as of late. you do sound like you need a massage! heck, who doens’t need one? :). i’m in favor of a FAQ or meals post!

Merry Mary February 21, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Oh wow, planning a wedding is stressful. Not looking forward to that happening eventually.

A FAQ page first!

Asparagus! I freaking love it!

Jessica (electropositive) February 21, 2010 at 10:56 pm

you didn’t pick 10/10/10, did you? *wink wink*

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) February 21, 2010 at 11:39 pm

Hey girl, whatever you want to post about, it’s your blog. I know you deleted and marked as read everyone’s posts (i think i read that on buzz) anyway i blogged about this last week..that i dont care about people’s food, their exercise or whatever…I care about them. And if I am reading their blog, I care about them. Therefore, whatever you post about will be just dandy by me :)
xoxo

Tamizn February 22, 2010 at 2:22 am

What talented friends you have, I have a few tattoo artist friends, they too draw the best pictures. I like to rad anything you post so whatever you feel like sharing is good for me!

My favorite green veggie has to be broccoli I love it, I like to cut the stalk off, cut the hard skin off and eat the inside raw sprinkled with a little salt :)

MelissaNibbles February 22, 2010 at 2:57 am

Your buddies are very talented. I love the picture of the woman in the jaunty cap.

My fave green veg is broccoli. Can’t get enough!
It’s your blog, post whatever you want! I love reading :)

L. February 22, 2010 at 2:58 am

Hey Janetha!

I would definitely dedicate a whole page for yoats!
But other than that, I’d love to see some strength workouts! While some cardio tips are great to bust the boredom, I am always in search for new moves strength wise and it’d be great to see some of it here! :D

And my fave green veggie… SO HARD, I think if it’s up to the amount I consume it’s definitely spinach, I go through bags and bags but I absolutely LOVE asparagus! I wish I had it more but it’s quite expensive and I like having TONS of it!

xxx

Naomi (onefitfoodie) February 22, 2010 at 3:50 am

Emily (Healthy Fit Mama) February 22, 2010 at 4:45 am

I’d love to see an FAQ page.

Fave green veggie – brussels sprouts! I love to roast them in the oven

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is February 22, 2010 at 4:47 am

Congrats on booking a location! I can’t wait to see where it is. I also love naturally more – it is my fave peanut butter, too. Last jar I got, tho, was STUFFED wth flaxseeds, like in a weird way…don’t know if it was an accident or what.

Lindsay February 22, 2010 at 4:47 am

I could asparagus all day every day! Love it on the grill too! Can I come to your house for dinners? They look awesome! Wedding planning can be so overwhelming so its good your mom ROCKS!! My mom did everything for me, haha. Love her!

Lauren February 22, 2010 at 5:00 am

Ugh, planning a wedding is totally exhausting but one of the best times of your time. Try to enjoy the chaos because you will miss it when its all over!

Naturally More rocks!! I actually need more. :)

Umm, favorite green veggie would have to be brussles followed by asparagus in a close second.

Hope you have a fantastic day sweetie!

Tina February 22, 2010 at 5:30 am

Yay for finding a place. I think that is the biggest step to get the ball rolling. Wedding planning is exhausting!

I think a page on cardio workouts would be my biggest interest. I’m fine making up my own weight training, but always get stuck in a cardio rut for my own workouts.

Fave green veggie = brussels!

Abby (Nibble, Nourish, Run) February 22, 2010 at 6:00 am

Oh yay! So glad y’all booked a place – can’t wait to hear all about it.

I would love to see a products page! Love to know what you rely on for your meals and stuff…! Oh and my favorite green veggie – tied between spinach and Brussels sprouts! Have a fab day miss!

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) February 22, 2010 at 6:11 am

-Beautiful art! I love tattoo artists =D
-LOVE Indian food, I want it NOW.
-Planning a wedding sounds SO stressful, I am getting a bit nervous now that the boyf has actually started talking rings… but fun, too right?

1. I would love to see a FAQ’s page, and a fave products page =D
2. My fave has to be broccoli, with spinach and asparagus a close second. Oh, I love my brussels too!

Bekah February 22, 2010 at 6:27 am

Great post Janetha! Hehe you sound like such an engaged woman, I love it. BUT, man oh man I cannot imagine planning a wedding. I made a wedding scrapbook of my perfect wedding when I was little… ooooh how times have changed! Looking forward to your new updated page my dear. I’m sure whatever it is, however you organize it, how often you post won’t matter, because we all love you no matter what!

I love all green veggies. Except green beans. Brussels, KALE (prob my fave), swiss chard, spinach, asparagus, cucumber, zucchini. I’m making myself hungry.. and I just ate breakfast. :)

Sarah W. February 22, 2010 at 6:27 am

I <3 Indian Food!!!!!!! Love that TJ's has Frozen Garlic Naan for easy access plus their Indian simmer sauces!! Course nothing tastes as authentic as the real stuff in a restaurant.

I'm looking forward to a "wedding shapeup" post which I know will happen :-D

I'm also looking forward to the date you picked!!!! I presume this year?!

Stasa February 22, 2010 at 6:29 am

Hang in there- planning a wedding can be stressful and throw in house hunting and it can be very overwhelming. Take it one step at a time and enjoy the process. Once it’s all over you won’t know what to do with yourself (although I’m sure you’ll find something fun).
Would like to see a FAQ page but am a fan of Meals too. My fav green is broccoli since it’s so versatile.

inmytummy February 22, 2010 at 6:30 am

Definitely treat yourself to a massage if the planning gets stressful. It’s worth it.

Kombucha is cheaper than cigarettes. I like your reasoning. Now I want one. A kombucha that is. I am not a smoker.

I like broccoli and spinach. And avocado. But I think that’s a fruit.

Karin February 22, 2010 at 7:21 am

I want some artsy friends too! And Indian food! And a Janetha who would come over to my house and cook me dinner! :)
Whatever you do with your blog is fine by me.
Green veggies? So difficult and impossible to choose! I’m besties with all of them (except brussels because they stink!) :)

eaternotarunner February 22, 2010 at 7:25 am

An FAQ page! And I love brussel sprouts for sure ;-)

Jenna February 22, 2010 at 7:35 am

for sure more on the meal pages :)
great eats chica! glad you had a great weekend even though it was quite busssayyy!
jenna

Teri [a foodie stays fit] February 22, 2010 at 7:35 am

aghhh, I miss the gallery strolls and especially Bombay House! That place is freaking delicious.

I’d love a weight training moves page! :)

And I have a new found love for kale.

Lizzy February 22, 2010 at 7:47 am

I cannot wait to hear more things wedding! i’m so excited for you!

I would totally love to see more moves pages cause you always have great workouts and i’m always looking for something new!

April February 22, 2010 at 7:58 am

I love reading your cardio sessions!

Penny and Randy…LOVE!

My favorite green veggie is green beans. Made the way my gma makes them :)

Paige @ Running Around Normal February 22, 2010 at 8:04 am

I don’t understand how people can hate asparagus either. It’s amazin’!! Even if it does make 1/4 people’s you know what smell like you know what.
Holy planning I can’t believe you picked a location for your wedding already! You are on the ball, girl. It took me a few months just to make myself start looking, hehe.
Yoatgurt. One word…foodgasmic. You are a concoction genius, Janetha.

1. How about an FAQ page?
2. Lovvve me some asparagus, as well, but I’m gonna have to go with spinach!

Susan February 22, 2010 at 8:04 am

DUDE! Your mom’s jam looks like the jank! I want some.

Planning a wedding and house hunting are two hugggggeeee things but it sounds like you’ve got the right tude and a good support system to help ya out.

As for your blogskie, I LOVE the idea of a favorite products page! I want to see what gets the Janetha B seal of approval.

Stay sane mama!
Susan

Jenn N. February 22, 2010 at 8:05 am

Wedding planning is exhausting.

Not a big asparagus fan anymore. Only because a few days before my competitions I ate SO MUCH of it. Seriously two day out ALL I EAT is chicken and asparagus (for the diuretic) effect. Unfortunately it sort of ruined it for me. However I do like it blackened on a the grill. I do LOVE LOVE LOVE artichokes.

An Faq page. I like personal faq pages.

ksgoodeats February 22, 2010 at 8:12 am

I can’t wait to see all of your wedding planning fall into place! I’m going through it with a family member and there’s SO MUCH to do it’s insane. Good thing you’ve got the venue down, that’s a big hurdle.

Fav green veggies is by far steamed (to mushy goodness) broccoli!

Susan February 22, 2010 at 8:23 am

Janetha!! My first Oxygen magazine arrived!! I love it, it made me a very happy camper last week, you’re the bestest-estest :D

Indian food looks awesome, as does your friend’s artwork. You’re right, they definitely are talented! And 60 minutes on the stairmill?? Ohmygahhhh. I’ll take 3 hours on the treadmill any day over that torture device.

1. Moves!

2. Brussel sprouts. Roasted, and then popped in my mouth like candy :)

Hope you’re having a great Monday! xoxo

Nicole G February 22, 2010 at 8:39 am

I’d love to see a FAQ page. But all of the ideas sound wonderful. And broccoli is my fave! I don’t eat it nearly enough but when I do I remember how much I love it LOL

Congrats on the wedding successes, my supervisor at work is waiting for confirmation on her wedding location/date and everyone in the office has been praying/sending positive energy her way!

Angharad (Eating for England) February 22, 2010 at 8:55 am

oooh wedding planning. I feel your pain!
I love asparagus as well but I eat spinach like it’s going out of fashion…
I would like to see more Janetha-inspired meals please. Thanks :)

Crystal February 22, 2010 at 8:57 am

a. I need to try some yoatgurt…pronto! I’m lame and haven’t done so yet….whon whon.
b. more MOVES (weights) please!
c. PEAS are where it’s at! (can never eat asparagus right…always end up with “stems” in my teeth lol!)

louisianagrown February 22, 2010 at 9:05 am

I think you should go with a FAQ page first. OR, you didn’t offer this one, but you could keep an up-to-date wedding planning page!

And my favorite green veggie would have to be artichokes.

lowandbhold February 22, 2010 at 9:24 am

Don’t stress the wedding planning too much girl. It all falls into place pretty quickly, especially after you get the location lined out. Wish I was there to help you out :)

Ildie February 22, 2010 at 9:32 am

Hey lady. Sounds like you’ve got your hands full with “life”. Don’t you just love it though?

FAQ page please. And soon you can add a “How to plan a Wedding without losing your mind” page and an “Our Wedding” page. SO EXCITING!

I love broccoli, brussel sprouts and asparagus equally! Don’t make me choose.

mayapamela February 22, 2010 at 9:34 am

I love asparagus, but I do see why it’s not exactly the most popular vegetable. At least you’re busy with something that is so wonderful! I would love to see more moves, but maybe a little dumbed down for the complete strength training novice like me! Maybe with some demo videos if you ever get the chance? My favorite green veggie is kale. I crave sauteed kale.

Holly February 22, 2010 at 9:39 am

dude…fabulous weekend! i am so excited that your wedding planning is already a moving. did you pick 9/10/11. i feel as though with your love of numbers, that day could be the day.

yay for indian food, meals with family and just relaxing. i can only imagine how busy busy busy you are right now. and i think some more moves pages would be awesome – maybe they will inspire me to start some lifting and get with those DOMS!

fave green veg? spinach!

xoxo

ellie February 22, 2010 at 10:01 am

Love the art! Are those your vegan friends?..

I could eat Indian food all day, every day. I love your blog as it is- don’t change a THING!!!! Except set up a delivery food service because I love your eats :D

Fave green veg…tough to pick. Broccoli would be one but I also love spinach, asparagus and roasted brussel sprouts.

lindsayruns February 22, 2010 at 10:14 am

INDIAN FOOD :D

um, I think you should do a FAQ page. and then a wedding page cause I love weddings. :) and then all the other stuff. But really I have no pref.

green veggie? Peppers followed by spinach, kale, and asparagus

Sweet and Fit February 22, 2010 at 11:36 am

i can’t imagine how stressful planning a wedding is, its just soo exciting!

1. i’d love to see more meal pages, I love your clean healthy eats
2. asparagus and broccoli!

Therese February 22, 2010 at 11:47 am

I was NOT one of those brides who enjoyed wedding planning! I am bad at making decisions and it just got to be soooo overwhelming! It will all come together girl…if it did for me it can for anyone lol.

I would love more meals :) But that is because I can be lacking in creativity and end up eating the same things so new ideas would be great!

Katie February 22, 2010 at 12:02 pm

My mom pretty much planned my wedding – thank goodness for moms.

I would love an FAQ page, then meal page. :-)

I also LOVE broccoli the most.

Marcie February 22, 2010 at 12:04 pm

I would love to see more meals, then moves, weights/cardio combined…
I love broccoli!!! :)

Kailey (SnackFace) February 22, 2010 at 1:03 pm

JANETHA!!! I miss you. I’m sorry I’ve been absent, too :( School’s being a beezy!

I want a Penny so badly. I can’t get over that cute little face.

And wedding planning is something I’d definitely pawn off to my mama! No thanks, too stressful.

I’d love to see mo’ meals! And fave green veggie is…spinach, probz. Just because it’s so versatile.

Love you!! xoxoxo

Jenny February 22, 2010 at 1:20 pm

ugh don’t stress little miss.. the wedding will be perf no matter what!!

Jo February 22, 2010 at 2:21 pm
