busy day.

in meals,moves

holler ballers. i am making some of beek’s coconut chia granola right now and the aroma is filling the whole house and it is basically all i can think about.. BUT~ i need to write a post, so i will do my best to not think about the cinnamon-y vanilla-y goodness that is in the oven.

today was a jam-packed busy day!  i may as well just get right into telling you about it.

SO, ya know how i was going to try to workout in the morning? hahahahahahahahahaha. that’s funny! yeah freaking right! i cannot wake up early to save my life.  instead of going to the gym before work, i ended up going into work a tad early and then leaving early to hit up the gym before my hair appointment.. SO, it all worked out in the end.  it just sucks that every time i try for a morning workout, i fail miserably.  how do you morning worker-outers do it????

if you are wondering how i managed to get the motivation to get into work early but not to the gym.. well.. the reasoning behind that was my latest eating obsession just made me rush into work so i could EAT.

meals

meal 1: chocolate protein oats+chocolate PB2 yogurt @ 8:30 AM

IMG_5644

for those of you who were wondering, this is how i make it:

  • cook 1/3 cup oats + 2/3 cup water on the stove (can be done in microwave)
  • stir in 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • meanwhile, mix 1 cup fat free oikos + 1 TB chocolate PB2
  • put them in a bowl side by side, take a photo

IMG_5647

  • mix and devour!

IMG_5649

and like i said yesterday, this is 340 calories and keeps me full for 4 or 5 hours!

one thing that bugs me: every time i eat my boss tell me that my food “smells revolting”~ like.. every day.. every meal. it is getting old! get over it! it is not what i like to hear when i am trying to enjoy my food. plus.. how can oats and yogurt smell gross? it cannot. impossible, i tell you.

today was national pistachio day so i had ten pistachios. said nuts can be seen here:

IMG_5650

lunch came before i knew it. i wasn’t starving at lunchtime but i knew if i ate lunch too late it would throw my whole day off because of all my plans. so i ate lunch on time even though i wasn’t starvin’ marvin.

meal 2: chicken fingers + steamed veggies + toasted arnold thin w/ laughing cow @ 12:30 PM

IMG_5653

hum. not photogenic at all! those two pools of randomness=annie’s honey mustard and annie’s bbq sauce. hate to say it, but annie’s bbq sauce sucks. i hate it and remembered why my bottle is still full. blech. the rest of lunch was delightful!

i always get FREEZING COLD after i eat. so much so that i have to turn on my space heater. i’ve read that it has something to do with all the blood in your body going to your stomach to help your food digest, that sounds like a good reason but i have no idea if it is true or not.

IMG_5659

the arnold thin+laughing cow reminded me of those handi snacks breadsticks. that is exactly what it tasted like, i kid you not. remember these?:

image

[source.]

i used to love those damn things when i was a little kid. i am sure they are absolutely horrible for you.  but a toasted arnold thin with laughing cow is pretty dang good for you! 135 calorie snack? yes please.

anyway, where was i? oh yeah. snacktime.

it was in the car, on the go.  i had to run an errand for work and then went to the gym.

meal 3: second best luna flavor @ 3:30 PM

IMG_5663

i kept it light because i ate this on my way to the gym and didn’t want to hurl during my split squats.

moves

lower body workout day and i only had 50 minutes to work out. here it is:

  • 5 min treadmill warmup (0.5 miles)

then i supersetted some moves.

block #1: hamstrings and quads three times through

move weight reps
single leg deadlifts 12# dumbbell in each hand 15 each leg
bulgarian split squats 12# dumbbell in each hand 15 each leg

block #2: glutes, lower back and calves three times through

move weight reps
donkey kicks body weight 15 each leg
superman extensions body weight 15
single leg calf raises body weight 15 each leg

block #3: hamstrings, quads and glutes three times through

move weight reps
stability ball ham curls body weight 15
ball against wall squats 10# dumbbell in each hand 15
lying butt bridge w/ feet on ball 10# weight on hips 15

block #4: glutes/outer thigh, quads, hamstrings/calves three times through

move weight reps
leg lifts body weight 15 each leg
jump squats body weight 15
woodchopper 10# weight 15 each side

block #5: quads and calves three times through

move weight reps
single leg press 100# 15 each leg
single leg laying calf raise 100# 15 each leg

the end. this took 50 minutes and i burned around 300 calories.

i rushed home since i only had 15 minutes between the gym and my hair appointment.

meals

because my timing was way off today and i had to get to my appointment, meal 4 came just 2 hours after meal 3. sometimes timing just doesn’t go the way i’d like it to.. but i made do.

meal 4: green protein smoothie @ 5:30 PM

IMG_5666

don’t let the placemat fool you. i drank this in the car..

IMG_5671

it had:

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 3 cups spinach
  • handful blueberries
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • sprinkles of the gums
  • ice

i decided that the blender bottle does not leave a very rad smoothie ‘stache!

IMG_5682

a little reminiscent of hitler, no?

pardon the greasy hair. don’t worry~ it is clean now. and cut and colored AND my eyebrows no longer look like caterpillars ;)

IMG_5735

gotta love those no makeup photos.

ANYWAY. more food? yeah ok.

meal 5: cheetahs + roasted broccoli @ 8:30 PM

IMG_5690

some of you asked about the cheetah method. well i gotta give credit to my girl for these ones~ but this is how i do it.

  • cut sweet potato in half long-ways
  • cut into 1/4” wide half moons
  • spray cookie sheet with pam
  • place cheetahs on sheet, spray tops with pam. add salt.
  • bake at 450 degrees [f] for 15 minutes
  • flip ‘em
  • bake another 15 minutes
  • eat ‘em

IMG_5691

they are called cheetahs because of the SPOTS.. obvi.

the broccoli just had some garlic salt sprinkled on it before roasting~

IMG_5692

wait, where was my protein? oh yeah.. i was saving my protein serving for after the granola was done baking!  which, for the record, was over an hour ago.. i have been typing this post on and off.

meal 5 part 2: protein hot chocolate w/ sprinkle of coconut chia granola

IMG_5736

mmmm. sorry~ no smoothie ‘stache with this one. but i did have a few friends submit some stellar ‘stach shots! (say that 9 times fast!) check it out~

HEABs with her creamy ‘stache

image

ildie with her greeeeeen ‘stache

image

jessica with her ‘stache sequence!

imageimage image

you guys could all be cover models! i love the ‘staches!

yawn.. it is SO late. past 11 PM. i need to get to bed, it has been a busy day and it is way past my bedtime :) see you manana for waffle wednesday! and crock pot wednesday as well! wednesdays are just so dang exciting :)

Qs~

1. is it just me or do you get WAY cold after you eat? is this normal? hope so!

2. in honor of national pistachio day.. tell me your favorite nut. not nut butter.. not food with nuts.. just plain NUT. i think mine is cashews!

xo. janetha b.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) January 26, 2010 at 11:33 pm

Getting cold after you eat I think is a sign that your chi (energy) is going towards digestion and not towards overall, ya know, warmth. I think it’s totally normal. Happens to me sometimes.

Your hair. As I have said before. You have a rockin’ hair girl. And naturally have great hair. So combine them, and you’re miss smokin’ hottie pants with the freshend up locks and brows. I KNOW how GOOD that feels!!!!! love it! I am in need of my roots done but like 2 weeks away, really, so im in that gross in between stage. fun :)

Stef @ moretolifethanlettuce January 26, 2010 at 11:40 pm

LOL the hitler smoothie stache…yikes! and your theory about blood going to your stomach to digest is true, according to one of my profs. your blood pressure also drops for the same reason, so some people who are really sensitive/already have low blood pressure get kinda dizzy after they eat (this happens to me sometimes!) love laughing cows, they’re defintiely the grown up version of those cheese snacks. i always just ate teh crackers and threw out the cheese, i don’t think my mom knew that or she probs wouldn’t have kept packing them for me!

caronae January 27, 2010 at 12:24 am

MMmmmm, I love cashews too, but once I start eating them, I can’t stop! I have SO been wanting to try that granola for a while now. You may have just inspired me to get moving and do it. And oatmeal and greek yogurt cannot possibly smell; your boss is just wrong.
Happy Wednesday!

Mary :: A Merry Life January 27, 2010 at 1:28 am

Nice staches!

Haha.

My fav nut? CASHEWS. Hands down best ever.

Karin January 27, 2010 at 2:26 am

Alright, maybe I’m not normal but I don’t feel cold after I’ve eaten something.
Ah I wish I could eat pistachios but nope, I get huge lips and my throat swells up. Seriously. I mean, I can handle the Angelina lips but that throat thing scars me a bit. I love me some almonds.
By the way your hair looks so shiny and gorgeous! (And so do you of course). And all those stache pics are seksiiii!

Lexi January 27, 2010 at 3:28 am

Love your oats/yogurt side by said! Looks and sounds great! I actually have some chocolate pb2 up in my cupboard… hmmm…

I get so cold after I eat! I read that all of the blood rushes to your stomach after you eat. maybe that’s why?

Love all the smoothie staches!!!

Sarah (Finding My Balance) January 27, 2010 at 3:34 am

that’s so rude of your boss to say that every time! what does s/he eat?
and….no makeup? wowzers, girl, you fiiiine.

1. i don’t get cold after i eat, but i do feel sleepy…
2. i love cashews, too. but almonds are pretty high up there… they’d have to duel it out.

Bekah January 27, 2010 at 4:33 am

aaagh basically made my morning getting this in my gmail inbox! :)

fyi- first workout in college/culinary school yesterday- janetha inspired HIIT treadmill routine!

ellie January 27, 2010 at 4:46 am

Pleeeeeeeease try the cooked oats + yogurt combo cold! Make it today and stick in the fridge…soooo delish. My favourite way to eat oats, by far.

What does your boss eat that he thinks cinnamon-y oats smell?! Loco :P

I don’t know how people workout late in the day! I am up and wide awake by 6am at the latest (and ready to fall asleep by 7pm)

Always cold after eating- all my meals are followed by hot tea! Fave nut- I think cashews are the only ones I like straight up. Unless candied walnuts count!

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is January 27, 2010 at 4:47 am

I’ve gotten up in the morning for so long – it is tough but after a few weeks of just doing it, it gets easier. I feel so much better getting everything done in the morning!! And OMG I used to LOVE those Handi-snack things…I totally forgot about them – how gross is that cheese??!

balancejoyanddelicias January 27, 2010 at 4:50 am

I can’t workout in the morning either.. although I wake up pretty early, I still prefer to have my relaxed morning instead of doing everything fast to go to the gym.
cold after eating? really? I only get cold after I drink a juice or salad… that’s why I don’t eat them anymore.
favorite nuts? almond!

Lindsay January 27, 2010 at 4:50 am

I have to workout in the morning or I won’t get it done. My husband and I are up before 5am everyday, so its been a routing for a LONG TIME. hehe. Oh and I LOVE LOVE CASHEWS as well. They are only nut that actually melts in your mouth, haha.

Emily (Healthy Fit Mama) January 27, 2010 at 4:59 am

I HATE when people criticize my food choices! So annoying!

I used to be a morning workout person. I got up every day at 4:30, and got to the gym by 5. Looking back, I have no idea how I did it!

Hmmm, I’ve never noticed if I get cold after eating… I must not if I can’t remember!

Walnuts are definitely my favorite nut!

lindsayruns January 27, 2010 at 5:03 am

HAHA if I had your boss I would totally be vindictive and eat only nuked eggs and cabbage and split pea soup for a week just to make everything else “smell good”. Handy snacks were amazing, but I bet if we actually ate them now we wouldn’t think it was food…so processed! I don’t know how you do 12 x 15 x 3 of bulgarian squats! Holy crap I was sweating and shaking soooooo much during that move yesterday with 7.5s! Gee, thanks Janetha for introducing me to it. ;) LOOVE IT!

You look gorgeous without makeup and I love the hair! And girl if your eyebrows are fuzzy caterpillars I don’t want to know WHAT mine are! :)

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) January 27, 2010 at 10:25 pm

ha ha! cabbage, eggs- good ones. Let’s not forget canned tuna!

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) January 27, 2010 at 5:05 am

I only get cold after I…well…eat something cold, which is actually a lot of the times. But if I eat something warm or room temp, I tend to heat up like a furnace!

Favorite nut, by far, are cashews. I’m totally with you on that one! :D

Lovin’ the stash photos!! :D

Lauren January 27, 2010 at 5:09 am

Waking up at 4am to workout has become so natural for me that I can’t imagine NOT doing it. I really don’t know how you have the energy to do it after working all day. I feel like poop when I get home from 8-9 hours of work. When I do try to run at this time, I feel awful. I guess it’s all about how our bodies adapt and what works best.

I love the stash photo collection. I really think you should print these all out and make one big HUGE collage and hang it in your living room. LoL, I am sure Marshall would love that in your house someday! :)

Abby (Nibble, Nourish, Run) January 27, 2010 at 5:20 am

Handi snacks?! Oh my gosh memories of grade school…!

I’m ALWAYS cold so I can’t say that it’s just after I eat. Seriously – I’m always at my desk with my coat on. Sad. And my favorite nut is probably pistachios! How fitting…although the shells drive my insane.

Karla January 27, 2010 at 5:28 am

I made cheetahs last night! They were fantastic!!!

I’m impressed by your work outs. I hate strength training! I’m trying to get myself to like it but I really don’t!

Jenna January 27, 2010 at 5:53 am

Those co workers don’t know what they are missing out on!!
Great eats- loveee cheetahs!

carolinebee January 27, 2010 at 5:59 am

UGH having ppl make unwanted comments on my food is one of my PET PEEVES! I just ignore them or make a snide remark- but since it’s your boss maybe ignoring is the best policy :D

kbwood January 27, 2010 at 6:00 am

i get freeezing! i heard it was bc your body is using your energy to digest instead of keeping you full.
i suck at waking up early tooooo! id much rather sleep late and go to bed late..i gota start waking up earlier and going to bed earlier tho, ugh!
how do you make yo protein hot chocolate?
have a great day lova!

Allie (Protein Girl) January 27, 2010 at 6:22 am

I like the skinny French lover style stache! Very eurochic!

Lara January 27, 2010 at 6:32 am

I get freezing after I eat. I have asked other people about it and no one seems to understand what I am talking about so glad to hear I am not alone LOL
I have also read it is from the blood going to the stomach but then wouldn’t everyone experience that? Someone else told me it could be due to an electrolyte imbalance? I keep meaning to ask my doctor about it.

Lara January 27, 2010 at 6:36 am

Oh and I can not workout in the morning either. So hard to get up plus my workouts in the AM are sucky. I have so much more energy and strength when I workout in the afternoon or evening, burn much more calories too. There was actually an article about this in the New York Times the other month, about how you burn more calories and get your heart rate up higher in the later part of the day. Has to do with hormones and circadian rhythms.

Gabriela January 27, 2010 at 6:41 am

I get FREEZING after I eat too! Weird, I though t I was the only one!

My favorite nut is probably brazil nuts or walnuts (even though brazil nuts are technically a bean!)

Choc Peppermint Luna is one of the best flavors :)

jenngirl January 27, 2010 at 7:02 am

I am an early riser in general, so that definitely helps when it comes to early morning workouts. But somet tips that are no-fail when it comes to working out EARLY for me: IMMEDIATELY sit UP when your alarm goes off. That right there will wake u up. 2)put your clothes on first thing. 3)remind yourself how awesome the quiet gym is and 4)remind yourself how awesome breakfast is going to be after a sweaty workout. But ya know, some people just don’t “do” morning workouts, like I’m not the biggest fan of nighttime workouts, I don’t know how YOU do it! :)

1. Getting cold after eating is indeed to do with blood flow going to digestion in your stomach. haha I looked it up one day.

2. Cashews!

muscularmom January 27, 2010 at 7:23 am

I get up early everyday to workout…its not so tough. (Of course i go to bed at 9:30pm!)
1. Never get cold after eating
2. Another vote for cashews…I love them…they are dangerous.

The Hot and Fit January 27, 2010 at 7:44 am

I was never a morning person but for the last three years I have been getting up at 5:00/5:30 to workout first thing in the morning. Of course, I have to go to bed earlier (like 9/10 PM) but its worth it.

katie January 27, 2010 at 7:54 am

I am a morning person, but also due to the fact that I have to get my booty out of bed at 6 am during the week, because of taking my son to school, so once Im awake and drop him off I cant fall back asleep, so I hit the gym early, coffe helps too!!

THe Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick is my favorite bar!!! Love it! I love the chocolate oats!!! I have to do that!!!!! Yum!!!

Did u get your cinnamon roll protein powder or the chocolate one yet?

U will Love Love Love!!!

Have a great day!!!!!!! xo

brandi January 27, 2010 at 7:55 am

i love your smoothie stache :) so cute!

I wish I could work out in the mornings, too, but that’s a no go!

freckledfoodie January 27, 2010 at 7:55 am

ugh. I know what you mean about people complaining about the way your food smells. EVERY single time i make broccoli slaw in the microwave (steamed in bag), my family complains that it smells soooo bad. its hard to enjoy it when everyone is complaining. i feel your pain!

julie January 27, 2010 at 8:05 am

usually after i eat i go into a comotose like state haha where i just sit and stare. then i want something sweet so i make tea which makes me hot haha

i want a smooothie staccheeeeee but we ran out of spinach! damn them salads. i think i should pick up some more spin and make it a stache like day tomorrow. no?

you just gotta get up and DO IT. sometimes it helps if i wear my shorts the night before or the tshirt or tank i’m wearing to the gym try that? just GET UP or put your alarm clock across the room so you’re forced to do it. I KNOW YOU CAN. DO ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. if that doesn’t work i’ll just come knock on your door tomorrow morning

Tina January 27, 2010 at 8:08 am

My favorite nut is almonds or macadamia nuts (why the white choc mac is my fave Luna). Mmm! And agreed that it is impossible for oats/yogurt to smell bad. Seriously, how?!

And how do you get those tables in your posts for your workouts? I really like that organization. Is it part of an upgraded Wordpress or something else? Thanks!

Naomi(onefitfoodie) January 27, 2010 at 8:18 am

OHH WOWZA!! yes I know how you feel about the smelly food, all day, everyday LOL good thing I work by myself most of the time…well my members of the gym cant really see or smell my food, but I don’t have any co-workers per se that can smell my food if that makes sense…annnnyways i think my favorite nut would be pistachios hands down! peanuts too, but only in the shell then they are more fun to eat! I could go through a whole container of peanuts and not think twice, no joke!

i NEED to make this protein hot chocolate ASAP!!!! its from Deb, right?

omg those cheesy snacks remind me of DUNKAROO’s!!! remember those?? My mom never bought them and all my friends had them so at school I would always trade hahaha….i mean apple sauce for dunkaroo’s? not a fair trade in my opinion, but for those who have dunks everyday I guess that applesauce is a nice change of pace haha

have you tried the white chocolate macademia Luna?! its to die forrrrr

loads of love!!

louisianagrown January 27, 2010 at 8:20 am

Ugh, people insulting the food you’re trying to eat is such a pet peeve of mine.

Quinn January 27, 2010 at 8:32 am

Yay! Hair twin! My favorite nut is a toss up between pistachio and cashew. The pistachios I have to work for.

I totally remember those Handi Snacks. God, what I put in my body back in the day. I don’t even want to talk about Lunchables. ewwwww…..

jqlee January 27, 2010 at 8:38 am

I don’t cold after I eat…I am just always cold. Even sometimes when I’m working out, I could be physically sweating but if you touch my hands, they are ice cold. Weird.

Thanks for posting my ‘stache pics :)

My favorite nut? The Brazilian nut. Its a HUGE nut but has the same calories gram for gram as any other nut so you can only have like 6-7 :( Pistachios though, those are probably my second favorite. Soooo good!

OH, PS. I drive a Scion too!! A TC.

Susan January 27, 2010 at 8:45 am

Your haircut looks ballin’. You are gorg mama!

Ahh that Luna is amazing! And your breakfast reminds me of one of those vanilla cookies dipped in icing.

Favorite nut has to be the walnut!

Angharad January 27, 2010 at 8:52 am

Your hair looks so pretty!! I love it.

Janetha, just feeling the need to tell you I think you are doing so awesome with your Jamaican/Bikini/thingy challenge. You’re so dedicated and I know it’s hard sometimes but you always stay so committed and don’t get sidelined like some of us (cheese. pizza. fail). Anyway, I know you’re going to look and feel awesome on vacay and I’m proud of you! Well done xx

1) YES. I believe the blood to the belly thing is 100% true. Brr!
2) cashews!!

Tracey January 27, 2010 at 8:57 am

Chocolate peppermint stick is by far my favorite Luna bar. I remember the first time I tried it and I was seriously in love!

Graze With Me January 27, 2010 at 9:12 am

I, too, am always freezing after I eat lunch. I’ve taken to turning up the heat in the office before I eat so when I go back to work it’s warmer. Plus I have a space heater that I use frequently…

Haha- if you hadn’t said hitler ‘stache I was going to. Oh have you ever seen this website? http://www.catsthatlooklikehitler.com? Hilarious.

I love salted macadamia nut and raw cashews.

Therese January 27, 2010 at 9:19 am

I used to LOVE handisnacks. Why can’t kid food be healthy? I would still eat fruit by the foot and gushers. Hmph.

My bosses ALWAYS look at what I’m eating for lunch and are like “Ewww Therese what are you eating!” Excuse I don’t look at their fat asses and say “Ewww why are such a lard butt.” That was harsh, but it clearly irritates me too :)

Runeatrepeat January 27, 2010 at 9:35 am

I am always freezing after I eat. I’ve heard it’s because of the same thing you said. I believe it!

traynharder23 January 27, 2010 at 9:40 am

never really feel cold after i eat. possibly because i heat it up so much!
hmmm. nuts: almonds or pistachios.

nut butter? peanut butter- but that’s not a nut. i think i liked sunflower seed butter!

Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) January 27, 2010 at 9:42 am

Your hair looks great! I love it.

I think it’s so rude when people criticize food smells *while* you are eating it. Dude!

My favorite nut is almonds. I love how crunchy they are.

Christine January 27, 2010 at 9:47 am

ugh i hate when people criticize my food choices as I’m eating. My momma always says “If you don’t have anything nice to say….” hahaha

1. I get cold sometimes after I eat. I agree it has to do with digestion. I know someone who always sneezes immediately after finishing a meal! weird

2. cashews!!!!

Lo January 27, 2010 at 10:12 am

bah i feel like such a crappy reader bc i never have time to comment! well anyweezy, lemme comment now saying I NEVER workout in the morning. My body cant physically wake up to do so. I need to eat, relax, hve coffee and plan my day. As for nuts? I hate em. Unless of course they are ground up and spread over some oats or in between a jelly sandwich! enjoy ur waffle hump day!

xoxo

lolo

Amanda, another priorfatgirl January 27, 2010 at 10:26 am

i had NO IDEA it was national pistachio day yesterday! here’s the crazy thing, i needed a little somethin right before bed last night, and i looked in the cupboard to find it devoid of any salty snacks. i did, however, find a bag of pistachios. who knows how old they are, but they were still good, and i had 10. haven’t eaten pistachios in like a year, and YESTERDAY was the day they spoke to me. if that’s not crazy, i don’t know what is.

Hallie January 27, 2010 at 11:03 am

Cashew fan over here! I also like pistachios too. And I think I only get cold if I eat something cold like a smoothie, salad, or ice cream. If I have oatmeal and coffee for breakfast, I am SWEATING through it…or if I eat something spicy ;-) sounds like others get cold though, so you aren’t alone!

Ariffa January 27, 2010 at 11:29 am

I always get cold after a salad!! so i usually have it with tea. I absolutely hate when people say my food smells/ looks gross, secretly, they just want me to stop eating it so they can have it.
