christmas crunch.

by Janetha on December 19, 2009

in meals,moves

happy saturday everyone!  i know i usually don’t post on saturday but i thought i would drop in to holler atcha.

last night was SUCH a blast! turns out my friend who had the party lives in a ridiculously huge mansion.  that made for a good time.

the best part about the night was i was able to see old frends~some people i have not seen since last winter and i was just so happy.  there is nothing better than catching up with good friends.  i dare say it is even better than ice cream!

here are a few photos from the shenanigans~

this room was covered in mirrors and 110% dedicated to flip cup.

IMG_9609IMG_9623

hooray! a successful flip!

IMG_9657

la la la ladies.

IMG_9663

i never get to stand in the back! i am always too short!

IMG_9673

speaking of too short. this was a miniature room. see the ceiling? yeah.. i could stand up straight with lots of clearance. nobody else could. oh the joys of being 5’1”

IMG_9690

the worm was indeed busted out.

IMG_9694

and other killer dance moves. too bad the flash was on.. because you are missing the effect of the totally black room with a colorful strobe light. yep. jealous?

IMG_9695

more ladiesss!

IMG_9733

love it when i see people that i havent seen in forEVA!IMG_9753IMG_9741

saturday!

since my dinner last night was a PB&J i woke up starving.. actually my hunger is what woke me up! does that ever happen to you guys? i know this girl knows what i am talking about!

i immediately went to the kitchen and made some english breakfast tea~

IMG_9758

then i scrambled 2 egg whites+1 whole egg

IMG_9757

and paired them with a double fiber whole wheat english muffin+garlic herb laughing cow~

IMG_9756

it made for a lovely breakfast!

IMG_9759

i ate it while checking out the pottery barn catalog.  sheesh, how many possible products can you have monogrammed?!

anyway.

i spent the next 2 hours working on christmas stuff.. including FINALLY doing my holiday cards.  better late than never!

i caught up on some blog reading but eventually announced defeat and goggle reader won with about 51 left unread. ah well, ya win some, ya lose some.

somewhere around noon or one i decided it would be a good idea to go to the gym. i had my pod shuffle charged up and upper body on my mind.  i wanted to get it done quick so i decided to do supersets and made up a little workout using two different exercises for each muscle group (triceps, chest, shoulders, abs, back & biceps) and supersetting them with each other.  here is how it went down:

warmup: 5 minutes on elliptical level 10

cycle 1: three times through

triceps & chest
exercise weight reps
dumbbell chest press 20# each hand 15
barbell skull crusher 20# barbell 15
dumbbell flyes 10# each hand 15
bench dips body weight 15

cycle 2: three times through

shoulders & abs
exercise weight reps
overhead dumbbell press 10# each hand 15
ball crunches body weight 50
dumbbell shrug 25# each hand 15
ball plank body weight 1 minute

cycle 3: three times through

back & biceps
exercise weight reps
standing cable high rows 40# 15
cable biceps curl 30# 15
bent over underhand barbell row 30# 15
dumbbell hammer curls 10# each hand 15

my arms were literally shaking as i drove home. they still are!! i love it.

after the gym i needed a little post workout nutrish so i went with some thing light since i will be having a heavier dinner tonight.

the star of the show?

IMG_9762

YEAH! my roommate found some christmas crunch!! and actually, for bing a “sugary kids cereal”~the stats and ingredients are really not that bad. check it:

IMG_9763 IMG_9764

yep. that is why my title is “christmas crunch” although it could also refer to the time crunch that is going on right now.. seeing as how christmas is less than a week away! yikes!

of course i put my christmas crunch over 0% oikos. you saw that coming i am sure.

IMG_9765

this was actually a pretty small bowl. i took a photo of it in my hand above the dogs. you can go ahead and compare the bowl size to each dog head.

IMG_9770

why do i get so excited about christmas colored cereal?

IMG_9767

it was not long before my bowl became a christmas crunch blizzard.

IMG_9775

too bad it is not snowing here :( it better soon~i want a white christmas, damnit!

okay well i just got done eating that. my arms are still shaking. the dogs are still begging.

i figured now was a good time to check in on my december goals since the month is 2/3 the way over! wow~where does the time go?!

eat less.

  • success. i have been rocking at this one. hardly EVER have a bite, lick or taste of anything! and i think it is paying off in the weight department. i can see my abs popping through :) after all, abs are made in the kitchen.

move more.

  • fail. well, as of late. since i was sick i took 5 days off from the gym. 5 days in a row. so.. gotta hit it hard these last couple weeks.

drink a gallon of water a day.

  • semi-success. i have been about 70% on this one!

remember to take vitamins & supplements.

  • fail. probably remembered 4 days this whole month.

finish unpacking/stay tidy.

  • semi success. eh.. my room has been clean but i haven’t had time to unpack anything! woops!

print out photos and hang them in my room/office.

  • fail. the month is not over yet :)

eat out less.

  • success. hardly ever eat out! yes.

add one meal and one move to their respective pages on the blog each week.

  • success. i have been building that up this month and have more to add!

try new workouts.

  • success. yes. i have been making up new workouts left and right!

make more of an effort to keep in touch.

  • mega-success. that is all i do! i have been a social butterfly this month. fantastic.

and there you have it. lots of green, that is what i like to see :)

items of business!

  1. please keep sending me questions you would like to ask emily alvers, the 2008 body for life grand champion.. i am taking questions for the next few days so go ahead and ask away! if you missed it, you can check out her before & after photos and story here.
  2. i really need to change my about page. it is so outdated. that is not really an item of business but i am just sayin…
  3. today is national hard candy day so yeah.. celebrated accordingly. i can’t, since i don’t eat candy. but i hope you have a jolly rancher for me. a watermelon one. i love those.

well folks~i have to go do more socializing!  i am going to marshall’s for a bit and tonight i am joining my mom, sister & sister in law for a dinner out at the tin angel cafe and to the jon scmidt concert~ he is a new age piano player & composer. should be fun!

hope you are all enjoying your weekend!  i may or may not be back tomorrow~lots to do!!

Qs~

1. what is your favorite kind of cereal now? what was your favorite kind as a kid? favorite now is shredded spoonfuls~aas a kid i would say cinnamon toast crunch or fruity pebbles!

2. favorite kind of hard candy? watermelon jolly rancher para mi.

Hey, looks like more success than fails. I can’t wait to play Flip cup at the next party I have. Just learned about this one weeks ago.

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is December 19, 2009 at 3:10 pm

I looooved so many cereals as a kid. Prob cinnamon toast crunch was my fave?? Now I love Trader Joe’s Twigs Flakes and Clusters! Yum!

Lauren December 19, 2009 at 3:20 pm

What a fun and fab party! A Whole room dedicated to flip cup?? Now these people really have their decorating priorities right. :)

Christmas Capn’ Crunch! My hubby would love this! I think my favorite of all cereals is Peanut Butter Puffins. When I open the box, I literally have to pull my hand out of it to make myself stop. Ugh, it’s a little problem and I can’t be trusted with those little pillows of peanut buttery crack!
Have fun tonight sweetums!

Jenny December 19, 2009 at 3:24 pm

oh my god my flip cup skills are awful. Whenever I go out with my friends I’m always “that girl” that no one wants on their time (reminds me of 5th grade recess) so I always end up being the “referee” thanks guys. thanks.

but i digress…

I swear, kids don’t realize how good they have it these days. We didn’t have Christmas cap’n crunch when I was a tot. Meh. I guess your never too old to be crunchatized though, right?!

my favorite cereal now is a toss up between Kashi honey sunshine or kashi warm cinnamon cereal. I’m also obsessed with PB puffins but I’ve only had ’em once. CT suckssss. When I was a wee one though I was all about reese’s cereal. PB has always been in my blood.

love you pretty!

April December 19, 2009 at 3:34 pm

Mmmm…Cocoa Krispies for sure!

Atomic Fireballs were my thing back in the day :) The roof of my mouth was shot HA!

Tracey December 19, 2009 at 3:41 pm

Looks like you had a fantastic time last night!

I used to always eat Capn’ crunch. I need to look for this Christmas variety.

Tamzin December 19, 2009 at 3:41 pm

Those eggs look good, so does your party!

My fav cereal as a kid was crunchy nut cornflakes and now GF porridge of course!

My fav hard candy is cough candy so so good! x

Stef @ moretolifethanlettuce December 19, 2009 at 4:06 pm

Party animal! It sounds like you have another fun night lined up for you too. You look beautiful and that pic of you making ceiling clearance is too funny.

That Christmas Crunch is perfect, even better when you had it in blizzard form!

My fave cereal currently: Whatever that organic-y brand of honey bunches of oats is called

When I was little cinnamon toast crunch was definitely a top contender along with cocoa puffs!

Hard candy: does a tootsie pop count? the blue one!

luckytastebuds December 19, 2009 at 4:07 pm

multi-grain puffins are my favorite cereal right now, but i can finish the box in 3 days…so er….i try to not buy ’em. hahaha

Janetha…I LOVE your hair. I wish the bangs would work with my face but it doesn’t. :( It totally looks awesome and edgy yet feminine on you. Jealous!!! :)

I LOVE hard candy, but i’m picky. My fave is definitely japanese milk candy made with condensed milk. it’s really yummy!! If i ever get a chance to meet you, i’ve gotta convert you! heheheh

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) December 19, 2009 at 4:11 pm

Oh, you said you were seeing a pianist. I didn’t realize it was “new age” :-o Let us know how that was!

Great job on the ab-popping successes of so many of your goals. I think I need to adopt your BLT goal. It’s been hard b/c I’ve been making nut butters and goodies. Grr.

Cereals: now heritage multigrain. Back in the day: sooo many: Apple Jacks, Lucky Charms, Count Chocula, too many.

Hard Candy- Love Jolly ranchers but my ab fave is See’s pops- chocolate (they d/c’d the PB-sniff!)

Andrea@WellnessNotes December 19, 2009 at 4:17 pm

Sounds like you had a fun time last night!

Good job on the goals. I think it’s great that there is so much “green!” :)

1. I’m not much of a cereal person and never have been…
2. I think I’ll have to steal your answer. Watermelon jolly rancher is pretty hard to beat… :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Allison (Eat Clean Live Green) December 19, 2009 at 4:35 pm

That cereal looks so fun – great job on the goals!

1. what is your favorite kind of cereal now? what was your favorite kind as a kid? I will forever love Lucky Charms. I can’t remember the last time I had them though ;-)

2. favorite kind of hard candy? werthers caramels.

lisaou11 December 19, 2009 at 5:07 pm

Thats my goal getting through the next two weeks. I know I’ll be eating more with Holidays around, but I need to cut down on the licks, small bites here and there btwn meals. So, good job girl. PS–Im startin BFL again hardcore in January. Whoohoo.

Speaking of BFL, here’s my question for Emily…

1. Does she/ did she REALLY only do the 3 days a week/20 minutes cardio that BFL outlines? I cant imagine getting that lean with only that much. Although, I know getting lean is 90 percent what you eat. So, thats my question to her.

FAV Cereal: Honey Nut Cheerios
Fav Hard Candy: Hmmmm…noto a huge hard candy fan. Prob just lifesavers or jolly ranchers

Sweet Cheeks December 19, 2009 at 5:26 pm

Christmas Crunch?!? RIGHT. ON. I need some of that!!

Hope you have a wonderful time tonight, and yes, I am jealous of the little dance party you had goin’ on. ;)

Abby (Nibble, Nourish, Run) December 19, 2009 at 5:29 pm

Is that the worm?! Party looks like a blast! My fave cereal now is Kashi Crunch…well homemade granola really, but Kashi outta the box. Ooh and butterscotch is my favorite hard candy hands down forever and ever.

kbwood December 19, 2009 at 5:40 pm

girl WAY to go on your goals!! thats freakin aweesome. im obessed with your bangs.

fav cereal as a kid-i wasnt allowed sugary cereals! so i guess cherrios
fav cereal now-PB puffins and i LOVE cinna toast crunch!

fav candy-im not a candy girl..so chocolate!

louisianagrown December 19, 2009 at 6:08 pm

Just stumbled across your blog. Your fitness story is so inspiring, and congratulations on continuing to achieve so many of your goals!

Jess December 19, 2009 at 6:17 pm

woohooo! look at all that green! go janetha!!!!

My fave cereal has always been cinnamon life. still is.

I don’t do hard candy either. a hard caramel? My sweet tooth revolves solely around baked goods of the non-frosted kind.

Lizzy December 19, 2009 at 6:22 pm

frosted mini wheats are my weakness. seriously those things are just so easy to pop in your mouth and chew!

Paige @ Running Around Normal December 19, 2009 at 6:25 pm

Sounds like you had an awesome time last night!! Gotta love flippy cup. That miniature room is hilaarious.
Go you for getting to the gym today after a night of flippy cup, too!
Have fun tonight:)

Jess December 19, 2009 at 6:25 pm

just read your abs are made in the kitchen *shame face* I’m addicted to food. I have TEN MEASLY POUNDS to lose but do you think I can cut back enough?? I’m going to try more frequent smaller meals and tracking come the new year.

katie December 19, 2009 at 6:31 pm

Christmas Crunch!!! Yummy!! I need to buy some of that!!!!!!!! I hope you have a great night!!!!! Looks like you had fun at the party, love the pics!!!!!

Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) December 19, 2009 at 7:03 pm

Xmas Capn Crunch..yum! And you’re right the stats are fine. I mean, it’s cereal, it ain’t kale. For cereal, it’s just as good as any, better than many! I think it’s funny how many kids cereals, i.e Lucky Charms, Honey nut cheerios type things even, are actually “better” Than the healhty ones geared for adults, and/or weight loss. 180 cals in a 1/2 cup for some of them is nuts. You know what I mean.

PARty where the worm was broken out? PRICELESS.

Your goals. Well, at least you’re honest without youself and us when you think you failed, you wrote it. But on Goal 1 the eat less one, love the abs made in the kitch linkback. So true!

Glad u enjoyed the mango in my pics today :)

jenngirl December 19, 2009 at 7:42 pm

Fun times!! Parties at mansion-sized houses are sure to be a success.

That Christmas Cap’n Crunch is hilarious! I love that you paired it with Oikos, keeping it healthy :)

1. Honey Nut Cheerios when I was little, now ironically Honey Toasted Kashi H2H haha..but I’m learning that I’m really not a cereal fan except for the occasional snack.

2. Peppermints!

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) December 19, 2009 at 8:04 pm

A flip-cup room? Wow, my boyf would be all over that one!

OMG Capn Crunch is my alltime fave cereal. I am so jealous of your Christmas Crunch!!

1. Fave cereal now- Kashi Go Lean Crunch.
But as a kid, Cap’n Crunch for sure.

2. Butterscotch!

Hope the rest of your weekend is great!

3. the capn crunch xmas made me giggle hard core

4. i’m pretty sure youre using excel for your workouts and i love the organizational way it looks. i may or may not steal that from you

5. you rock my socks off haha

burpexcuzme December 19, 2009 at 9:10 pm

Wahahaha !!! I loved how all three dogs looked up at you and the cereal bowl. SO adorable!
Janetha, I demand that you post every Sat, too. You’re just too amazing, and more Janetha = always a good thing!

1. I don’t eat cereal…I never did like cereal! I’m sorry, I sound so snobby, lol.
2. Maple bacon lollipop…that stuff is the BOMB!

Jenna December 19, 2009 at 10:05 pm

love christmas cereal! check out my post today…i made a shout out to ya!!
jenna

Whole Body Love December 19, 2009 at 10:23 pm

Oddly enough I loved Raisin Bran as a kid! Probably because the raisins had sugar on ’em. I also liked the Quaker Oat Squares. Now I love my Kashi assortment but I think Quaker Oat Squares are still my fave. I never buy them because I have a little control issue with them…as in half the box is gone in one meal ;)

BroccoliHut December 19, 2009 at 10:32 pm

No worries–I totally get excited about Christmas colored things too:)
1. Favorite cereal now is most def GoLean, but as a kid I always loved Kix and Honey Nut Cheerios.
2. Favorite hard candy…probably those hot cinnamon ones:)

Lynn at The Actors Diet December 20, 2009 at 12:38 am

i’m pretty excited about your cereal too. i loved capn crunch as a kid. especially the peanut butter. so now, of course, my fave is pb puffins.

Emily (The Experimentarian) December 20, 2009 at 6:20 am

I can’t wait to see what you think of the tin angel cafe! I wonder what it’s like every time I drive past. Love=cereal. As a kid, we were never allowed to have and “sugar” cereals, so it was just plain old Cheerios, corn flakes or Rice Krispies. I remember thinking Rice Krispies were cool though because that’s what my grampa like to eat :) Now I am in love with Quaker Oat squares. so good! P.S. I drank almost 2 GALLONS of water the other day. Holy thirst batman!

april December 20, 2009 at 7:30 am

Christmas crunch!! It looks soo good in your cereal.. almost like candy! I used to love Captain Crunch (the peanut butter flavor) and cinnamon toast crunch. Mmmm!

Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) December 20, 2009 at 8:31 am

Hooray for holiday parties!! Despite the snowstorm that hit NYC last night, my roommate and I had a pretty successful holiday soiree. Well…any night that involves wine and cookies is a winner in my book :-)

I used to love cinnamon toast crunch as a kid! I still really like it…Now, if only Kashi could make a healthy version…

Christina December 20, 2009 at 8:39 am

I have been reading your blog for awhile now and I just wanted to say that I think you have the cutest style! and when I was at the grocery store the other day I totally bought that same cereal and I don’t even really like Cap n crunch I just bought it because it was Christmas themed :)

Naomi(onefitfoodie) December 20, 2009 at 9:04 am

ohhh favaorite cereals?!?! that is a hard one…growing up my all time fav was rice krispie TREATS cereal!! that was soo good I loved the clusters! I also loved lucky charms, again picked out all the ‘mellows!! :) capn’ crunch is amazing though!! These days i love Kashi go lean (crunch too!) and puffins mmm

flip cup looked like so much fun!!! and love yoru scarf girl!

you seem to be doing awesome with your goals and hitting so many of them dead on!!

favorite hard candy would have to be the classic red and white mints (like candy canes!) also blow pops

Susan December 20, 2009 at 9:11 am

Ah!! The worm!! I’ve had so many failed attempts at that dang thing. I am impressed.

Congrats on hitting so many of your goals!! You are rockin December ;)

1. I’m off the cereal at the moment. Mostly because I realized that whole boxes were disappearing without my even pouring a real bowl to eat. My current favourite is probably Nature’s Path Banana Almond. Old-school fave was that mini cinnamon bun cereal. Ah! So good! But my parents never let us eat the sugary stuff, so I was stuck with Just Right or Shredded Wheat (the big ones, not even the fun mini ones)

2. Chocolate Tootsie pops!!!

hopefulrunner December 20, 2009 at 9:58 am

Janetha, I just wanted to tell you that you inspire me. I wish that I had your determination and motivation. Thanks for having such an awesome blog and sharing your life with us. :)

intheskinny December 20, 2009 at 10:06 am

My favorite cereal right now is Kashi Go Lean…growing up I loved Cheerios – any variety!

I think I would have to say butterscotches are my favorite hard candy. Yum-o!

Ildie December 20, 2009 at 10:09 am

When I was a kid I loved Count Chocula. OH man, did I ever. HA! I’m now partial to the simple flavors. Kashi, Cheerios or Special K. I like adding my own flavors to plain cereal. Fresh or dried fruit being the best.

I’ve never been a huge fan of hard candy but if I had to pick one I guess it would be peppermint. :)

Have a great weekend!

Katie December 20, 2009 at 10:22 am

Looks like a kick ass time – CUTE FRIENDS!

Ha!

Cereal – cinn toast crunch (always)
Candy – I prefer chewy!

Happy SNOWED IN SUNDAY!

XOXOXO

Julia December 20, 2009 at 11:50 am

Flip Cup! Makes me miss undergrad!
My fave cereal now, I’m also a big fan of the Shredded Spoonfuls.
As a kid I LOVED Fruit Loops, and Cocoa Krispies (I’m pretty sure I would still immensely enjoy eating either one of these, specially the Cocoa Krispies…chocolatey yum!
And my fave hard candy hmm… I really like Jolly Ranchers, specifically the Green Apple flavor.
Have a great rest of the weekend!

Shannon (The Daily Balance) December 20, 2009 at 4:29 pm

so much fun! i’ve always been a fan of cheerios — i know, so CrAzY, RIGHT? ;)

Meredith December 20, 2009 at 8:43 pm

Is the Christmas Crunch flavored? Or just colorful?
I love jolly ranchers too! Especially the watermelon. Yum!

Bekah December 21, 2009 at 12:01 am

Ooo that picture of the yogurt with the dogs is absolute perfection. Quite the photographer miss Janetha. :)

My parents never let me eat crap cereal (the horror!) but I did eat tons and tons of granola (I’m talking big bowls with like 2 cups of granola in it) with whole milk as an afternoon snack. Loved the stuff. And shredded spoonfuls!

Fave cereal now? Nature’s Path pumpkin flax granola. So good.

Congrats on your successes my dear- seriously hardly ever taking a bite/lick/taste might not be a big deal to some people, but I know how hard it is! So kudos my friend.

eatolive December 21, 2009 at 7:29 am

Glad you had fun at the party, it looks like a great time :)
