some stellar new moves.

in meals,moves

hi guys! i am going to make this post a little snappy because marshall is waiting for me so we can watch dexter~season four is SO good!  we have been watching it on channel 131 which has all the episodes for free!  they actually have all sorts of shows and movies on there~the only downside is sometimes the sound quality is a bit dodgy but for the most part it rocks.  check it out!

it was awesome hearing all of your goals for december.  whoever said new year’s is the time for goals is way off.. december 1st is a much better time to set the bar and start achieving :) good luck to everyone on all of your goals!

can i just say that my make-up-as-you-go lower body workout from yesterday has already left me with killer DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) already!  my hamstrings are aching and my glutes are sore.. i love being sore from working out.. such a good feeling.  do you like it too?  or do you hate it?

meals_thumb

so i started out my day with, what else? waffle wednesday!

meal 1: 2 kashi golean blueberry waffles topped with oikos+PB2 @ 8:30 AM

IMG_8614

as much as i love making my own protein waffles, these kashi toaster waffles are a good sub for when i am feeling lazy :)

IMG_8605IMG_8613

the oikos and chocolate PB2 make a fantastic topping~plus it is much better for me than sugary syrup.. this tasty combo is packed with protein and healthy fat~

IMG_8609IMG_8612

actually, with the protein from the waffles and yogurt combined, this breakfast boasts 34 grams of protein! a sprinkle of cinnamon topped off this waffle wednesday celebration perfectly~

IMG_8615

i originally had a lunch date planned with some of my girls but one had to go out of town unexpectedly, she is an archaeologist (congrats on your master’s degree j5!) and my other friend’s little girl woke up sick :( feel better kaia bear!  instead of eating out, i ate at work.. leftovers!

meal 2: turkey+pumpkin enchilada @ 12:30 PM

IMG_8618

this was super good the second time around! leftovers always are so delicious because the flavors have the chance to meld together overnight.  i didn’t have any avocado with me but the greek yogurt served as an excellent garnish!

IMG_8619

OH.. one thing i have been doing lately and wanted to share with all y’all.. turning my summer dresses into winter wear.  remember this dress i bought from forever 21 in the summer?  well, it made an appearance today in 35 degree temps!

IMG_8627

i paired the dress with black tights, a black cardigan and my gray boots and voilà! a summer outfit is transformed.  i am going to start doing this alls the time.

i know i just ranted and raved about cardio in a fasted state, but i could not say not to this juicy pear around 4 PM~

IMG_8639

marshall and i have declared that we like pears more than apples these days. plus they are cheaper! i know that is something we can all appreciate.

moves_thumb

my workout was INCREDIBLE today!! first off i started with 20 minutes of HIIT on the treadmill and instead of doing my usual steady increase in speed i did jog/sprint splits~90 seconds each.  i posted a page about this on my moves page where you can read about it in detail.  here is how it went:

  • 2 minute warmup~i did this at 5 mph
  • 90 second jog @ 6.0 mph
  • 90 second sprint @ 9.0 mph
  • 90 second jog @ 5.0 mph
  • 90 second sprint @ 8.0 mph
  • 90 second jog @ 5.0 mph
  • 90 second sprint @ 8.0 mph
  • 90 second jog @ 5.5 mph
  • 90 second sprint @ 8.5 mph
  • 90 second jog @ 6.0 mph
  • 90 second sprint @ 8.5 mph
  • 90 second jog @ 5.0 mph
  • 90 second sprint @ 9.0 mph
  • 1 minute recovery @ 3.0 mph

total time: 21 minutes

total distance: 2.3 miles

and THEN because i had a little extra time i did this routine on the stairmill, i posted a page about it here.

  • minute 1: level 8, facing forward
  • minute 2: level 8, facing left, stepping my left foot in FRONT of my right as i stepped
  • minute 3: level 8, facing right, stepping my right foot in FRONT of my left as i stepped
  • minute 4: level 5, facing backward
  • minute 5: level 8, facing forward
  • minute 6: level 8, facing left, stepping my left foot in BACK of my right as i stepped
  • minute 7: level 8, facing right, stepping my right foot in BACK of my left as i stepped
  • minute 8: level 5, facing backward
  • minute 9: high speed, facing forward, double stepping (this means step up two steps at a time and skip every other step instead of stepping on every step)
  • minute 10: level 2, facing forward, after each slllooowww step, kicked my leg back straight behind me and flexed my glutes (really felt the DOMS in my buns!) similar to a walking lunge leg lift.

the end! wow, my heart was pumping after this one.  i highly suggest trying this 30 minute duo.

meals_thumb

i came home, exhausted, and SO HAPPY that i didn’t have to make dinner!  this morning i put a bunch of ingredients in my little friend:

IMG_8640

and came home to this!

IMG_8641

you can check out what went into the crock pot by checking out my new recipe here.

meal 3: chicken + white bean salsa soup & slice of toast  sun butter @ 6:00 PM

IMG_8649

yes, i am aware my kitchen lighting fails. but the flavor of this soup was outstanding!

IMG_8650

and some may think this is an odd combo but i love dipping toast with peanut butter in my broth-based soups so i decided to top a slice of nature’s path 100% whole wheat with 1/2 TB of sun butter~

IMG_8646IMG_8648 IMG_8651

mmmm. great dinner! it is totally body for life friendly and balanced and another great part about it is that the whole pot of soup only cost $8.00 to make!  that is less than two bucks per serving. stellar.

i do need to fess up to one small lick~

image

ever since i saw this ice cream on brandi’s blog months ago i have been searching for it.  well.. marshall found it! and brought it over tonight.  so i did have a couple tastes~in all honesty i probably had less than 2 tablespoons.  talk about self control!! and i am glad i finally got to taste this delicious stuff :)

well i am going to call it quits on internet land for tonight, hope you all are having a great week and i will catch up with you later!  giveaway coming sooooon.

in national food holiday news: today was national fritters day, tomorrow (december 3) is national apple pie day and friday is national cookie day!  it also happens to be national cookie cutter week, national fruit cake month and national egg nog month.  now you know!

Qs~

1. favorite TV show currently? and of all time? i don’t watch much TV but i definitely have to say that at the moment, my favorite is dexter. of all time? probably seinfeld.

2. in honor of friday’s national food holiday, what is favorite cookie?  i really like snickerdoodles~must be the cinnamon lover in me. i also like good, old-fashioned chocolate chip cookies! this recipe is the best.

Haleigh December 2, 2009 at 9:39 pm

Dexter is my “new” favorite show to watch with my husband. We are apart over the holidays so we made a pact not to watch it until we got back so we can watch it together but it is so tempting!! I love that show! My favorite show to watch alone is Glee.

Anne December 2, 2009 at 9:42 pm

Those waffles look fab! Especially with the cinna oikos addition. I totally want to get a crockpot–they sound so convenient! And I’m a huge snickerdoodle fan, too. With extra cinnamon! :)

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) December 2, 2009 at 9:52 pm

Super cute dress ensemble- love it!

your greek yog looked like mine tonight- I added maple syrup and stevia. then I got worried b/c Sam decided that she wanted a lick and I have no idea what stevia will do to her little body so I stopped her :-( Poor baby!

DOMS- adore adore adore. If I dont get it I feel I wasted my workout. When I over trained about 2 yrs ago I NEVER got sore (and I felt like I was mixing things up!!). NOw thank goodness I do. I love not being able to sit down without groaning!! :-) I’m weird.

love your stepmill moves. I heart the stepmill sooooooo much, almost as much as my jump rope. Have you ever roped??? At first I was a total lameass and tripped up every 5 seconds. Then I brought my rope on a trip with me and it was my only form of exercise- it finally clicked and I fell in LOOOVVVVEEEE!!

Night night- my new rule of turning the computer off at 9pm means I have 8 minutes to go…have a great thursday!!

kbwood December 2, 2009 at 9:56 pm

miss creative with the dresses! i love yo style :) AND your waffle creation.. im all about the protein!!

my fav show now – modern family .. but its a tie with glee and desperate housewives.. gah i have s erious tv addiction

i love any cookie with chocolate+peppermint around christmas time!

i like your moves TOO!

marisa December 2, 2009 at 10:39 pm

If you ever need to get rid of that dress you know where to send it! You are so cute. I can say that and not have it be creepy because I AM your sis.

Carbzilla December 2, 2009 at 10:49 pm

You are an unbelievable fashionista seestah!

I can’t talk to you about Dexter b/c we’ve only gotten through Season 2 on Netflix! Why can’t they get them on Netflix faster?

I think I told you about the time that we accidentally returned a CD with one episode unwatched and then we had to stream it on the computer while the next episode waited in the DVD player. We knew then we had a little problem.

We’ll be digging Breaking Bad while Netflix gets caught up on the Big D (I’ve already seen some spoilers but I’ll still be scrolling through any Dexter mentions).

Devan G December 2, 2009 at 10:52 pm

I love your dress!

Such a cute dress!

I love the Office, Glee, and Gossip Girl. And I won’t lie, my mom and I watch Ugly Betty. It’s our thing.

Karin December 3, 2009 at 2:37 am

1. True Blood.
2. I think any cookie with chocolate will please me but my fave would probably be chocolate chip..

Love the dress! I also always turn my summer clothes into winter fashion. Layers are my friends.

coco December 3, 2009 at 2:42 am

xoxo

AMAZING WORKOUT as usual my dear!

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is December 3, 2009 at 4:54 am

That oikos looks like whipped cream! It looks so good. Love your workouts, as usual. I could never just pick one favorite show, but I was obsessed with Full House, Boy Meets World, and Saved By The Bell.

Jessie December 3, 2009 at 4:58 am

My fave cookie is definitely a simple chocolate chip cookie.

Jocelyn December 3, 2009 at 5:04 am

sounds like a great workout!! And nom that icecream sounds delishous.

My fave cookie would have to be my nanas buttery shortbread ;) Oh so bad but good!

VeggieGirl December 3, 2009 at 5:15 am

Chic dress!

1.) Too hard to name! So many shows, haha.

2.) Gingerbread men.

Katey December 3, 2009 at 5:15 am

my favorite show is a 3 way tie.. desperate housewives, 90210, and TRUE BLOOD

Emily (Healthy Fit Mama) December 3, 2009 at 5:29 am

I loooove being sore from a workout! It really makes me feel like I pushed myself. Of course, I will probably still complain about the soreness! ;-)

Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) December 3, 2009 at 6:21 am

That soup looks delish!

Fave show… Top Chef! (I’m sure you could have called that! lol) I was so sad to see Jennifer go last night =(

And I lovelovelove warm chocolate chip cookies. Mmm…

Paige @ Running Around Normal December 3, 2009 at 6:30 am

I need to find some PB2 and get it in my life, stat! That combo sounds amazing!

Nice workout, girl! I’m planning on doing some HIIT tonight, too. Definitely going to push it. I usually do the jog/sprint series as well.
HOW did I go this long without seeing Pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream on blogs? Especially Brandi’s? Must. Find.

1. Glee hands down. Currently at least I=OBSESSED!

2. Favorite cookie is probably oatmeal chocolate chip. Mmm mm!
Have a good one, Janetha!

Angharad (Eating for England) December 3, 2009 at 6:53 am

I don’t watch much TV right now so I’ll say BBC News! All time favourite is probably The Wire – amazing television! Get into it!

Cookies….mmm. Probs just a classic chocolate chip for me. Can’t beat it!

By the way you are making me want a crock pot really badly!
Have a great day. x

Sarah W. December 3, 2009 at 6:58 am

I love the summer dress idea! I need to do that with a skirt I have – now that I FINALLY have black boots to do it with! need some tights asap.

Quinn December 3, 2009 at 7:05 am

Favorite TV show is sadly probably Real Housewives. I know.

Favorite cookie, definitely a good frosted sugar cookie.

And, how about you fly to DC and start making all my meals and putting them on cute little plates like you do? Ok, thanks :)

Graze With Me December 3, 2009 at 7:08 am

That’s such a good idea with the dress. I hate having to buy a whole new wardrobe just for one season – then have it sit in my closet until next year.

I keep saying I’m going to use my crockpot but since I get up at 5 it’s hard to throw it all in before I have to get ready for work…maybe I’ll suck it up and prep it the night before.

1) I’d say my current fav show is The Big Bang Theory. All time? Gilmore Girls.

2) Fav cookie is either oatmeal choc chip or these little apricot-coconut ones that my mom makes at Christmas.

Brandi December 3, 2009 at 7:10 am

Love the waffles and the summer –> winter outfit!!!

I don’t know how you only had 2 spoonfuls of that ice cream :) it’s awesome, isn’t it?

1. favorite TV show currently? and of all time? Currently would be The Office or LOST. Of all time – I Love Lucy, hands down.

2. in honor of friday’s national food holiday, what is favorite cookie?

Favorite cookie: oatmeal butterscotch.

eatolive December 3, 2009 at 7:11 am

mmmm what a great week in baked goods land :)

im pretty much an old lady who is obssessed with House Hunters & the Travel Channel (my ultimate dream would be to travel the world for like 4 years straight) i definitely have a bucket list of countries and cities i absolutely must see before i die (its a page and a half long … oops!)

of all time? hm, thats difficult. i would never get sick of watching … oh wow this is gonna sound so lame … but, The Wonder Years.

FAVE cookie is the good ol chocolate chip :)

Sara December 3, 2009 at 7:21 am

Love the workout. I miss the stairmill so much, the new gym doesn’t have one. It never fails to make my bum burn so good the next day.

Favorite show currently… Office. In love. All time fav would have to be South Park. Cartman is my hero.

Favorite cookies would definitely be choco chip, even without the chocolate… the dough is just heaveeeeen!

PLEASE keep layering the dresses, I have been trying but just can’t seem to make it look right. Yours looks amazing!

ksgoodeats December 3, 2009 at 7:24 am

The waffles look delish but the immature, 12 year old boy that lives deep down inside of me thinks they look like boobs! I hope that’s not weird!

I LOVE the outfit!! Great transformation!

1. Non-reality show = LOST! I love that TV show!
2. I’m a snickerdoodle girl myself as well. Surprise, surprise!

julie December 3, 2009 at 7:36 am

ahhhh snickerdoodle and sugar cookie are totally on tops :) besides if i REALLY wanted to splurge this cookie shop in my town makes the MOST AMAZING rainbow cookies in the entire world actually universe.

hmmmm fav no reality tv show of all time is foooo shoooo sex and the city :) i would say to anyone and everyone that i learned all the significant things you need to know in life by watching it AND i even watched it with deej (weird i know) but we were/are worlds biggest fans :)

hope you had fun with marshmellow and dex ;)

Graze With Me December 3, 2009 at 7:42 am

Oh!! I’d also like to add that I LOVE LOVE LOVE being sore too. I was just talking about it with my boss, it makes me feel so good about my workouts. Hurts so good, right?

Emily December 3, 2009 at 8:07 am

1. Bones! So good, I am legit obsessed. I also really like House and Scrubs.

2. Vegan blondies. My favorite used to be lemon squares, but my freshman year in college my mom sent me a box of them and I ate them all in one day. Ick. I’ve never eaten one since!

Also, where did you get the pb2? It seems like something I’d love but I don’t know how I feel about ordering it online.

http://eatventures.wordpress.com

holly December 3, 2009 at 8:08 am

ahhhh i LOVE turning summer wear into winter wear…maybe i should give some shots of me as well. that would require putting on make-up which i haven’t done in two weeks…oops! :)

mmmm loving the waffles, enchiladas and crock pot love. i think i may just have to fork over the money for a crock pot because i would love NOTHING more than to come home and have dinner be ready!

love your girl – hope all is well. let’s chat soon – i feel like we could have tons to catch up on. fave tv shows: glee + the office. fave cookie: PEANUT BUTTERRRRRRRRR!

xxxx

Whit December 3, 2009 at 8:21 am

LOVE those Kashi waffles. I have not had them in forev. Need to make a grocery trip soon and stock up, methinks.

Rose December 3, 2009 at 8:41 am

I LOVE this season of Dexter too, but part of me misses Miguel.

Your waffles look so fluffy and amazing.

lisaou11 December 3, 2009 at 9:12 am

First of all–all your meals look great!! Love the waffle one!

I’ve heard Dexter is REALLY good, I’ll have to watch it.

As far as DOMS, I like workin out hard, but honestly I dont like being sore. Im constantly wanting to stretch and rub it out when I’m sore. But, I do workout pretty hard so I get the soreness pretty often (right now my chest is).

1. Fav show right now—Flashforward & Modern family. Love it….of all time…Felicity.

2. Cookie—hmmm–snickerdoodle or sugar!

lowandbhold December 3, 2009 at 9:27 am

Love your outfit. Tights and boots are an amazing way to transform a summer dress. I love it.

1. Currently – House (Netflix), Modern Family and Glee. Of all Time – Friends and Sex and the City
2. Peanut butter cookies with hershey’s kisses on top!

bhealthier December 3, 2009 at 9:46 am

turkey and pumpkin enchilada!!?! that is such a crazy good idea

Susan December 3, 2009 at 10:04 am

I had similar waffles for Waffle Wednesday! Except mine had whipped cottage cheese with nut butter. Sometimes, frozen waffles are just necessary ;) How on earth do you face backward on the stairmill!?!?!? I can barely take a drink from my water bottle without falling off the damned thing! :P I am suurrrsly impressed.

1. Currently, Glee. I’m a sucker for a good song and dance routine. All-time, mine is Seinfeld too. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every single episode at least four times, and I still laugh my head off every.

2. Peanut butter chocolate chip, the soft kind :)

Abby (Nibble, Nourish, Run) December 3, 2009 at 10:16 am

Well right now I’m OBSESSED with Glee – but my all time fave is probably My So Called Life – so melodramatic – loved it!

Katie December 3, 2009 at 11:19 am

Heck yes for the pb/oikos topping for your waffle.

1. This is the first season of biggest loser that I have ever watched and I LOVE it so much. All time fave: I Love Lucy. Seinfeld is up there, too. :-)

2. I like chocolate cookies a lot, but chocolate chip is my favorite of all time. Can’t wait to try out your recipe!

Lara (Thinspired) December 3, 2009 at 11:34 am

Way to make that dress an outfit for all seasons!

1. Currently loving The Big Bang Theory. All time favorite is probably Friends.

2. Can’t beat a good chocolate chip…with walnuts, of course!

Jenna December 3, 2009 at 12:47 pm

pumpkin cheesecake ice cream! what what?!
jenna

snackface December 3, 2009 at 12:49 pm

Omg I love a dress transition! YOU ARE SO FAB.

OK, currently in love with Curb Your Enthusiasm. New to me! But I will always and forever love Sex and the City. You already knew that, probz.

Ah! Snickerdoodle love right hurr. Made with real butter. Duh. But I also NEED chocolate chip cookies. I just love them. I love most cookies, actually.

I’ve just noticed that I throw around the word “love” way too much. But I mean it when I say LOVE YOU!!!

Hallie December 3, 2009 at 1:52 pm

I love DOMS! Love being sore from a workout…it’s like I can feel my muscles getting stronger!

TV shows…hmm…I don’t know. I like Criminal Minds a lot lately. Favorite of all time…that’s hard too…Sex and the City, I guess. When it was new and exciting, haha.

Fave cookie…soft and chewy-style choc chip (or the kind with chunks…I am such a sweets girl!).

april December 3, 2009 at 3:25 pm

I love being sore too! Except i hate when my legs are sore and I’m trying to do cardio. That’s not very fun!

I’m loving your new pages! And that enchillada looks really yummy too!

My favorite show is House. I just love it! And favorite cookie.. either my mom’s homemade cinnamon & sugar cookie or her dark chocolate chip ones!

HealthySDLiving December 3, 2009 at 3:37 pm

WHY have I never seen that ice cream? It sounds delicious and will be on the lookout!
Mmm and Sunbutter, yum! I love the crunchy kind!

inmytummy December 3, 2009 at 5:19 pm

OMG that you for that website. We were trying to watch True Blood season 2 last weekend and the site that we went to removed it.

I just watched Season 3 of Dexter. Finished it last night.

Krista December 3, 2009 at 5:38 pm

I have only seen a couple episodes of season 1 Dexter but loved them…I need a marathon soon!

I did your entire make-up-as-you-go lower body workout yesterday since I was feeling a workout funk and needed inspiration/something I could do at home. It was great!! Feel-good sore today, too :) nothing I couldn’t help with a little yoga sesh!
